Speaker 1 (00:02):
Want to get lucky, be someone who creates it for others.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
First, educate, empower, enable impact. Thank you for tuning in
to that Will Never Work. An award winning podcast where
we share inspiring information and personal experiences related to business
and the entrepreneurial journey from those who are leaders in

(00:30):
their respective field. Now here's your host, author and business
coach Maurice.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
So you think you need luck and so now you're
don't know which way to go. You think it has
to be the lucky to draw all those type of things.
But I want you to understand that the fastest path

(01:00):
to luck as generosity. See when you help others succeed,
keep in minds without strings attached. You genuinely want people
to succeed. You build a network of goodwill, of trust

(01:21):
and visibility, and with that in mind, that energy will
come back to you. Sometimes there will be ways that
we understand which are referrals. It could be a verbal
referral or an email or whatever that referral might be.

(01:43):
It could be other moments of unexpected support. Other times
could be that the doors that you thought were really closed,
or door that you didn't even think existed will now
be opened. So for myself. What has happened is I

(02:13):
had decided, and this is the part where it is
important for you to get a coach. I had decided
that because I was already helping out religious organizations and
nonprofits with their websites and flyer creation, that I was

(02:38):
going to continue to help people out with that, and
in addition to that, offer a little bit more information,
just a little bit here and there. And so what
happened is is that during that time, as I'm talking
to one particular pastor and we're talking about how to

(03:02):
grow in the virtual space for these churches because the
pandemic had hit because of that, all of a sudden,
now because she's in a place of becoming a business coach,
business entrepreneur coach, she wanted to offer me her services

(03:23):
and ideas and support free of charge. Now, at that
particular time, I was not ready. I didn't think I
was ready for a business coach. I didn't think I
needed one, to be honest, and sometimes our ego can
get in the way. But what happened is that as

(03:44):
I am talking to her about other things, being her website,
being her flyers and other forms of advertisement, I guess
when it comes to her, well, no, I guess it
was more marketing and advertising for her organization, being the church.

(04:07):
She started speaking to me about coaching and giving me
other business pointers every turn, and so now all of
a sudden, I have the support that I needed externally
for this podcast. And I'm sorry. This was prior to

(04:33):
the pandemic. This was like when I first started podcasting
seven years ago. I'm thinking five, it was seven. And
so what happened is, as we're talking about coaching, she
was actually one of my first people I was able
to interview. Now this particular time, she was growing pretty

(04:55):
fast with her coach. She was in the USA Today's Time,
I mean USA Today magazine, she was a book author,
she was growing, she was speaking a lot of different places,
doing presentations, all that type of stuff. And so she
was able to give me the support that I did

(05:17):
not necessarily think I needed, and she started to refer
me to some of her colleagues that were in the
coaching space as well. And then because of that, I
had opportunities or doors that were open that I didn't

(05:37):
even know existed. I didn't know that there were certain
places and spaces that I didn't even touch yet. But
that's because you need someone to help you unlock that door.
So what it is is that we need to consider

(06:00):
is that people will do things without having a true
cost to it. One hundred percent of the time, people
will help you out. And a lot of times we
have that fear that we're not gonna get the information
that we're going to put out there. It's gonna be
reciprocated back and that you know what, that's fine as

(06:22):
long as you stay in your place or space with that.
And what I mean by that is you're not gonna
always get back what you give, especially not in the
form that you believe that it should be in. You'll
get it back one way or another, it'll be really
really really really unexpected, really unexpected. So I would like

(06:47):
for you to offer some type of free value weekly.
I would like for you to share a resource. I
would like for you to make an introduction or somebody.
I'm always doing referrals. Hey, you know what, you need
to talk to this person. If you're looking for a
new job, you need to speak to this person. If
you're looking for this type of product, whatever it is,
make an introduction. You know, take the time to go

(07:11):
through your social media accounts and leave a comment or
share somebody else's work, you know, saying hey, you know
you've done a good job or a great job or
whatever it is. See things aren't done by luck. In
my opinion, a lot of it has to be your

(07:32):
hard work, consistency, the opportunity to be friendly with someone.
Understand that this information is for you to continue to
grow as an individual in your workplace situation, in your

(07:55):
entrepreneurial journey, continue to be a very nice and kind
human being. It can still get you some places. And
then also, as we talked about making an introduction, I
need you to think because it might not even be

(08:19):
a moment in that moment situation, it might be a
situation where you might need to really tip back and
think about who needs to meet who. And oftentimes, creating
these relationships for others often plant seeds for your own
unexpected harvest. You never know what's going to be the

(08:42):
tipping point. You never know what's going to be that
opportunity for you to grow and become something bigger and
better than what you ever expected. I never expected for
this podcast to have the impact that it's been. I
have not expected to have all these people to speak to,
to glean from, you know, being able to have that

(09:03):
opportunity to hey, you know what, let me send them
an email and they're willing to help and share with
me at any given time. I e. I mean, and
vice versa. So I would like for you to consider
the same thing. Sit down and consider who needs to
meet who for whatever reason. So you think that you

(09:26):
really want to be lucky, you really think, so be
sure to be generous in what you do. Be generous.
Now I'm not saying to give the whole kid kaboodle.

(09:47):
I'm not saying that either, but be generous in that
way you can build a network of goodwill, trust invisibility,
because again, if you listen to another episode, you can't
be discoverable if you're sitting in the dark, if you're hidden,

(10:12):
and generosity does not allow you to be in the
dark because it will bless someone else, and that someone
else possibly is you're walking billboard. Thank you very much
for listening.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
