Speaker 1 (00:01):
The map doesn't come before the journey. It unfolds as
you move. We'll talk about it right after this.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Educate, empower, Enable, Impact. Thank you for tuning in to
That Will Never Work, an award winning podcast where we
share inspiring information and personal experiences related to business and
the entrepreneurial journey from those who are leaders in their
respective field. Now here's your host, author and business coach Maurice.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
I know that there was a time in my.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Life where that I had envisioned that I would be
at a certain place.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
By a certain age.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
And I know a lot of you out there may
have felt the exact same way, especially when you pay
attention to your peers. You know, you're in corporate America
and you're with your peers, and you see how they
have been able to achieve what appear to be a
whole heck of a lot more than what you have.
But here's the thing I had learned that along the way,

(01:16):
that life doesn't hand you you know, a map. As
I had stated before, and I talk about this a
lot on the No Fruit podcast where or in confin
and I talk about on a No Fruit podcast that
sometimes we wish that parenting would bring us a map

(01:37):
or a guide, even when it comes to business with
this particular channel being that would never work. We would
like to have a guide, We would like to have
some type of real blueprint. And sometimes the blueprint has
been shown in front of us. It's just the matter

(01:57):
its timing, is energy, its location. You know, there are
some other factors within that in order for you to
get to another place. But there's something that I really
would like for you to consider. See for myself, the
pressure to get there, to be at another level, it

(02:23):
had really started to weigh me down and I was
stressed out. I thought I had to be at another place,
and so that's where my health challenges really started, because
I thought I had to be somewhere or something else.

Speaker 3 (02:40):
But here's the thing, it really started to rob me
of who I am today.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
And I wonder if some of you had felt the
same way too, that sometimes you should be further along
that sometimes that people are telling you you should be
so you know, somewhere else. They say, well, if you
do this, you could do that, and all those types
of things, and you might go off and do this

(03:10):
or do that, but you realize and all reality is
not your time, and so you think that you're running
late on that train, both metaphorically in reality. Because we

(03:36):
see what other people are doing, we hear what other
people are saying to us. So if you measure your
life by other people's timelines, you're gonna always feel like
you're behind. But when you start to measure by the

(03:59):
lessons that you learned, and you realize that every season
in your life has a purpose, and so progress isn't
about knowing every step. It's about trusting that the next
step will reveal itself when you move. And so as
you are working your nine to five, you start to realize.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
That this particular training.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
In tandem and collaboration with the last training can really
assist you to get to another place within your organization.
If you are an entrepreneur and you start to understand that.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
This step of.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Learning who you really are in business and separating yourself,
it is the next step for you to become that
influence for others down the line. Everything is not always
about right now, Everything is not always about in this

(05:08):
very moment. It has some points to it, yes, and
there are there there are those moments where there is
one step at a time where you're truly building where
you're going one step. So, so I would like for
you to do a few things right, Do one thing

(05:31):
today that moves you closer to your purpose in all reality,
it doesn't matter how small it might feel, but everything
it could be just a smile, smiling every day, that's
that's that's does it take up that many muscles in
your face?

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Right?

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Something as simple as that can change the atmosphere and
this type of action can bring alignment to what your
purpose is. So you're like, hey, Maurice, you know how
does that work?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
You know? Why do you think say something as simple
as smiling?

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Because in all reality, life is about customer service, and
if you practice smiling, that customer service attitude will start
to come out, that hey, I am a servant attitude

(06:32):
will start to come out. So just practicing smiling on
a consistent basis, And if you're already smiling, I don't
want you to smile anymore, and I don't want you
smile any harder, you know, but just share it with
someone else. Be that bridge to what that next person's

(06:53):
breakthrough might be. Because sometimes in this crazy environment that
we work in, that we play in, that we sit in,
whatever it might be, sometimes just a smile can make
the difference. Also, I would like for you to consider,
you know, each week, write down one lesson that you've

(07:17):
learned each week, So maybe it's every Sunday morning you
sit down in journal and write down what you have
learned and documenting your growth. Because by the end of
the year fifty two entries, you can see how you
have matured and how you have grown and prosper throughout

(07:38):
the year. Because remember, we're not worried about you being
perfect at all. We're really more worried about you documenting
your growth and.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
You actually seeing the.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Process of what you have done and what you have accomplished.
Because keep in mind that we also need to celebrate
those little wins. It's not always a big win. Sometimes
these small steps can cause you to say, you know what,
I'm gonna order myself a special coffee today. Celebrate the

(08:18):
wins and so you don't have to have it all
figured out to be faithful. The dots will connect in hindsight,
and what feels uncertain now will one day it's going
to make sense.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
It's going to make sense.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
So one of the things that I really would like
for you to think about as you're talking. As we're
talking about journaling and writing down which your successes have
been in the week, I really would like for you
to write this down in your journal that even though
I don't have it figured out, I am grateful that

(08:58):
I am still growing.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Again, I will repeat, even though.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
I don't have it all figured out, I am grateful
that I am still growing. And I want you to
say it out loud. I want you to speak it
life unto yourself. That job, that position that you're working for,
that you're looking forward to, is going to be given

(09:28):
to you, that next client, having that vendor. If you
say this out loud, it can come to you. So
let it help to ground you, to become your foundation,
because I want you to know that peace comes when

(09:49):
you stop rushing your purpose. Everything is in time, Everything
is in due time. So if you're willing to let
go of the need for control, because a lot of
times that's what we're struggling with, what would it look
like to also let go for the need of approval

(10:10):
Because I also understand that a lot of times, in
these positions, we're looking for someone to define who we are.
So I would like for you to stay until the
next episode because This is a little series, and the

(10:33):
next one we'll talk about why your value isn't defined
by validation.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
I'll talk to you a little bit later.

Speaker 2 (10:41):

Stuff You Should Know
Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
