Speaker 1 (00:01):
We are more connected than ever. Yeah, we are more
distracted than ever. I just want you to know that
the algorithm isn't your enemy, but your lack of intention is.
We'll talk about it right after this.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Educate, empower, Enable Impact. Thank you for tuning in to
That Will Never Work, an award winning podcast where we
share inspiring information and personal experiences related to business and
the entrepreneurial journey from those who are leaders in their
respective field. Now here's your host, author and business coach, Maurice.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I thank you very much for listening today. I thank
you very much for listening. I heard this phrase not
too long ago, doom scrolling. How many of you have
heard of that term, doom scrolling? See, I believe that's

(01:12):
what is taking over, or has taken over, our intention.
And while we're so distracted, I listen to a family
member not too long ago who has.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Expressed to me.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
That he has quite a few things, projects and stuff
that he would like to get done. He says it
all the time, but what ends up happening is that
he finds himself intertwined with scrolling on social media. As

(02:00):
I explained to him, as I said to him, you know,
I believe that you're spending so much time on this
platform or these platforms is hindering your progress. And I
threw the idea out there, like, hey, it could be
contributing to your procrastination.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
He was a little offended. He was a little offended.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
But in that situation, was I unfortunately stepping on a
little bit of tos. So how many of you are
in the same position or a similar position, because the
link between over consumption of that particular product and then

(02:56):
it provides you or push in a position of performance
at the same time. So if you're over consuming on
social media, are you now underperforming in what your task
or jobs are? So in this situation, I know for
myself and I'm guilty of in the past of where

(03:18):
I am.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
I have been.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Over overconcerned of what people are doing on social media
and not concentrating so much on podcasting. And I'm gonna
use this this good because this is within the last
seven years. I've been podcasting for seven years now and
so this has been a journey for myself. So I've

(03:43):
made it so that at this particular time, I have
made a major decision that I am not going to
over consume on social media. So I'm going to under
consume where I can overperform my own expectations for podcasting.

(04:09):
Let me give a little taste about that for a moment.
I'm not sure what episode this one will be, but
this will be number eighty in a sense of or
I'm sorry, over eighty that I have recorded for this year.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Now.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
That does not include the episodes that I have recorded
where I have interviewed other individuals, other podcasters, business owners,
you know, you listen to them, You've heard those. And
so with that, I thought that I was doing something great,

(04:51):
fantastic whatever. It was a couple of years ago when
I had over one hundred episodes, I thought I was fantastic,
and I was so busy looking at what other podcasters
were doing that I did not understand what I was

(05:11):
missing one hundred percent. Where So when I had gotten
to one hundred, I'm like, wow, you know what, that's great. Well,
here's what happens this year alone. This year alone, I
have or I will hit well over one hundred and

(05:36):
thirty episodes. And so, because I have decided made a
major decision to not consume social media as much and
get down with what my passion and what I feel
like my purpose is and understanding that and bringing it

(05:57):
in wholeheartedly. I am now over exceeding what my expectations
were because two years ago I thought my goal was
one hundred episodes. Right now I could hit one hundred
and thirty, probably one hundred and fifty if I really
really wanted to. Because here's the reality. My season for myself,

(06:19):
I create a barrier for myself. My season for this
show will be from February first to November thirtieth. That
is my season for myself. Now I will say this
as well, if I have now conducted more interviews that
will contribute to possibly going into December.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
But I'm giving you my own personal.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Success moments ideas and how if I know, if I
can get to one hundred, it feels great. So if
this is number, if this episode by itself is over eighty,
and then I have fifty semi interviews that I've done
over the year. And let's be honest, there are some
things that I could have done better this year, but

(07:09):
I had some other challenges that will also contribute to
my underperformance. So what I'm saying is that I don't
want you to be so consumed with social media and
the overconsumption of it because that's how people get their
news or whatever it might be, family updates, whatever it

(07:32):
might be. But if you're over consumed by it, there's
so many over other things that's in your life that
can make you underperform or can influence your underperformance, such
as family members. What is going on with them personally
in person in the flesh. Are there any family concerns

(07:57):
right Let's say it is the kids are sick from school,
or the kids got an after school program one any
other those things can contribute to what you will perceived
underperformance because of you have to readjust your focus. So

(08:20):
I would like for you to understand that that doom
scrolling can be the one that's contributing to your underperformance.
So I encourage you right now, I encourage you to

(08:45):
metaphorically turn down the volume of the rest of the
world just for one day this coming week, just for
one day and listen to what your purpose sounds like
without all of the other distractions that's going on.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I encourage you to just turn down the volume.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Take a moment, sit down a chair with your feet
flat on the floor, your arms flat on the arms
of the chair, or you're sitting outside on the grass,
you're sitting on a rock somewhere, it doesn't matter, but
find a place where you can turn down the volume
and listen to what your purpose sounds like, what it

(09:35):
looks like, and what it feels like without all of
the interruptions of the world. That's not always easy. It
really isn't. It isn't, But sometimes getting caught up in
all the other nonsense will hinder us for what our

(09:58):
purpose is, what our why is, and how we would
really would like this world to be a better place.
To encourage you to turn out a volume, I'll talk
to you a little bit later.

Speaker 2 (10:14):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
