Speaker 3 (00:37):
And welcome inside the Backstage Past, the Grand Slam of Music,
sports and entertainment out there KYBN ninety eight point one,
your Bay Area Broadcasting Network, and of friends, the Sports
Guys podcast dot Com. Of course THWN dot org and
always number one rated out there iHeartRadio Podcasts and there.
Of course, thanks to all the work the sponsors do.
And we got a special trait for you today and

(00:58):
a brand new record coming out. I've always loved the
word brand new when it's record. I love the title
little out there and multi platinum. And of course this
guy's done it all in the music business. It would
take forever to read off his resume, but you know what,
we got him here today, Colt, forward to the backstage past.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
What's up, Colt?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
OHI Avery buddy doing good man. Just appreciate you tak
us the time to speak with us a little bit
on the record.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
We'll I tell you what. We'll start right there.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
We're gonna play a couple of tunes here today for
everybody on the show for the record A little out
there coming out in November, the seventh, coming out on
that Friday too. Let's talk about this project. A lot
of cool collaborations with a lot of great artists out there,
Jay Webb of course, Country af and Tyler Booth and
you guys had a special song on there. You got
to be excited about this brand new record, right I am.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
I am brandy just to be able to have new
music out after what the last year and a half's
been like for me, and finally getting to have some
new music out there. And I just I love this record.
I think it's one of the best things I've done,
and it's it's one of the most diverse things I've done.
And I hope people going to dig it.

Speaker 4 (01:59):
I'm already digging it, man.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Like I said, it's I got country, kind of broke
country feel too, but you're gonna put your own personal
spin on it. And I think a lot of these
songs really resonate, especially with me living in Texas and
you've got people here that live in the South and
they've done everything pretty much those songs described out there too,
or at least have had some experience with. So these
songs do really tell a story, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Man, they relate to just regular blue collar god family
friends of America kind of folks. That's that's who I am.
That's who I talk to and who most of my
fans are. So yeah, I don't write in the fantasy
world much. I normally I was standing there watching it
or I was the one saying, hey, hold my beer
and watch this. So most of that stuff, if you

(02:40):
from where I'm from, you can certainly relate.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
No doubt.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
You can definitely relate to that, especially being here in Texas,
no doubt too. Hey give us an update. First of all,
I had you in my prayers, as most of the
fans did over the last you mentioned a year some
health concerns. How are you doing physically, mentally emotionally. I
know it's been a struggle for you. I kept you
in my prayers over that time, as long as the
fans did too. I know it's scary when you go
in and you do all that stuff, but how are
you doing physically, mentally and emotionally right now?

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Mentally and emotionally it might be the hardest part. I'm
at the recovery from the for everything has been a lot.
It's been a lot to deal with.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
And it was just who I didn't?

Speaker 5 (03:15):
You know.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
The thing was, I didn't go in to do anything.
I walked offstage playing a sold out show and sit
down on my bus and fell over dead and you know,
died twice. They brought me back twice. I was in
a coma for eight days. I mean, it was it was.
It was quite a lot to just even survive. The
doctor told me I was one percent of one percent.
I said, well, my mama told me I was special.

(03:36):
So you know, I uh, I'm just happy to still
be here and really lucky to still be here.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Truly, we're lucky you're here too, man. And like I said,
you know, Lord takes care of it. He works in
mysterious ways. So it's uh definitely uh love to I
know it's a health scare out there too, and I
tell people always get those routine check ups out there.
It's a big thing out there to know if something's wrong,
then catch it early, because we're not guaranteed that tomorrow
in this life. Here, Hey, tell me a little bit
about of course, the record coming out November seventh. I

(04:03):
want to talk about the leadoff song from it, Hell
out of It. Great artist and Michael Ray, How did
you guys come to this collaboration?

Speaker 2 (04:10):
And Michael have been buddies for probably fifteen twenty years,
good friends, and yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
The song.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
We had recorded this song actually before the accident, and
it certainly meant something to me, but it meant something
a little different after I woke up and everything. So
having a friend of mine on there with me, like
Michael is, we had worked We've worked together before, so
it was it was a big deal and it was
really special to have somebody after waking up out of

(04:38):
a coma and all that, somebody that I'm good friends with,
to be a part of it. And the song is
it's all about whatever you're doing, just living the hell
out of it whatever it is, going hard at it.
So that's kind of the only.

Speaker 5 (04:50):
Way I know.

Speaker 4 (04:51):
I'm wait you the too, take the chances and go
for it. Out there. Time to play one off three
record for cult Ford here.

Speaker 3 (04:56):
It's a little out There coming out November the seventh
or pre order now get a few tracks out there
to its Country af featuring a guy we had here
on the show a few weeks back, Jay Webb out
there too. It's a brand new record here. It is
the backstage pass. Stay Tuned is represented by our friends

up to being country as well.

Speaker 7 (05:26):
If you're from a little town, that's the dot of
the map. If you use a bug knife to play
your bass, if you're born up for a tank of
gas and a green bump only, if you have cut
of Copenhagen wearing a green is long. If your door's
unlocked in your porch lights on.

Speaker 6 (05:42):

Speaker 5 (06:43):

Sports Guys podcast with your host Brandon Morrell.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Andy Backer on the show. Cult Ford joining us here.
New album Little Out There comes out in November, the
seventh so special Arrangement.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
I'm a fan. In fact, remember you telling me about this?

Speaker 3 (11:05):
You met Jay kind of our founding, discovered him on
social media and you guys kind of came together with
this collaboration Country Af.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
Tell me more about this.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Man, Jay, I just I just discovered it my dad
looking on social media, and I was like, I just
I like to do that. I always look at younger
artists trut to see who's doing what and see what's
out there. And I just saw Jay and I just
liked his vibe. I like that Beared Me and Bourbon song.
So I just sent him a message, told him as
a fan, and he was like, oh wow, that's cool.
Obviously where he's from small town Alabama and old boy

(11:36):
like me, he is kind of a big deal there.
So he was like, Man, I'm a huge fan and
listening to you since I was a kid, and I'm like,
you're still a kid to me. But I reached out
to him. Had this song. It feels like a Jerry
Reid kind of song, has that kind of vibe, and
I'm a huge Jerry Reed fan. It just made sense
for Jay. And plus the second verse in there says
something about the line with Crimson with the Book of

(11:58):
John Other tide. I ain't stay tied. I'm from Georgia.
I can't say wrong.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
So I had to get Jay to do that.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
Hey, tell me a little bit about big Bucks off
of there, too, loved it. Craig Campbell's very synonymous country
music for a long time put out some of the
best hits out there, too.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
Love his music. How did this arrangement come together with
Big Bucks?

Speaker 2 (12:17):
I really, I've had that song for crying a while
and I kind of and I started to cut it
a record before, and then I didn't cut it, and
then I thought somebody else was going to do it,
and I just I got back to it and we
changed the production a little bit. It was a much
slower and we Dylan my producer kind of changed the
production on it, and then I got Craig on there,

(12:37):
and I meant, that's a you know, Texas boy, a
Southern boy that loved deer hunting and pretty girls. That's
about as good as it gets. A little money, dough
in the bank, a buck on the wall. I mean,
that's about all you need.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Well, I'll tell you what's time to play another off
the record.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
It's cold for it. It's Kate Hyde Country.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Here it is on the backstage past podcast KYB in
ninety eight point one, your Bay Area broadcasting network, these
sports Guys podcast dot com, and of course out there
I heard radio podcast and g HWN dot org.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
I got a buddy, a down home side. He's splitting
from the sticks for some big sad. He likes to
make the good money. Walk the concrete, Donna burn a page,
turn the leaves, take us hell belly habits, put him
on a shelf, wadding't his mind, the culture and hisself.
I said, go ahead, give weight, Donna get the win.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
He get gone, don't forget.

Speaker 6 (13:53):
You can clean the mud off each other, make a
scene like you wain't skin the bugging by a white collar.

Speaker 4 (14:01):
Put it off robbi covered rub your.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Red had before, you still got it. You can kill
gt the South end your mouth, but when you get
to drink in it's gonna fly out.

Speaker 4 (14:12):
It's always gonna find your jar. It's kind of funny when.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
You come way from you can run, but you can't
hide country.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
Know, you can't hide cuntry.

Speaker 18 (14:24):
Years still gonna swooping ship tb are still gonna sing,
hank quinny, plead in the bar, still gonna have a
winter green in them, Jean ring in the strip cup
cause a sinning bush. You can clean a lot off
the truck, make you sing like you ain't stealing the bug.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
My white collar put it on probably cover.

Speaker 10 (14:48):
If you red neck before you.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Still got a huge the South in your mouth. Be
when you get your drinking it's.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Gonna fly out.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
It's alway's gonna find you all.

Speaker 18 (15:00):
It's kind of funny when you come where you're from,
you can run, but.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
You can't hide country.

Speaker 18 (15:05):
Now, why would you make sobving girls up, you make
a mouth shake, Could.

Speaker 6 (15:10):
You slide a little closer? Say something southern in while
year yet it down with that ain't from around here?

Speaker 11 (15:17):
Is hell.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
You can clean the blood off your chud, make a
scene like you ain't skinning the buck and buy a
white collar, but it all probably cover rub your red
head the boy stand about it. You can keep the
South in your mouth, but win and get the drink, and.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
It's gone to fly out.

Speaker 6 (15:49):
It's always gone to fine and always kind of funny.
When you come way from you can run, but you
can't hide country.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
You know you can't hide.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
Jane to know you cane high country.

Speaker 5 (16:10):

Speaker 19 (16:17):

Speaker 3 (17:19):
And back here with Colt Forward on the show Here
Too Little out There is coming out in November the seventh,
the brand new record from Colton.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Out There tell us.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
All about Kate Hyde Country in this arrangement with Tyler Booth.

Speaker 2 (17:30):
I've been a big fan of Tyler since I met him.
He was just starting out on the Brim Brantley when
Brandley was doing his cruise kicking in the sticks. We
were out there and Tyler and I was like, man,
who is this kid? I mean, his voice just really
country and just a nice kid. And I reached I've
known Tyler for a good little while, and I was like, man,
I sent him a couple of songs and I said,

(17:52):
what do you want to do? We gotta do something.
And it made sense now, especially for me doing a
lot more singing stuff. That song just kind of fit
me and him very much, you know, like he kind
of feels like that, like they tried to take me
to the city and put the college shirt on me.
I'm really just an old country boy from Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Hey, I want to get your status on the health
cult of the industry right now, so many talented males,
females doing their thing out there, really that female category,
Laney kind of being the queen bee, and of course
everybody out there following her, Priscilla Block and Hella Langley.
You mentioned about discovering, you know, Jay and new talent
and following that. I mean, the health of the industry
is probably as strong as it's been since nineties country.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Right there's more music out there now than any than ever,
I think, you know, and obviously because of social media
and the platforms now you can you can become a star.
Sitting in your mine's basement, I'm at you know, it's
it's just it's amazing. So it's crazy. And the females good, Lord,
Lanny Wilson, Mela Langley.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
I'm such a.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
Huge Yella Langley fan, Megan Maroney and Priscilla how about
her transformation? I meant, Lord, she looks amazing, So it's
an exciting time out there in the music world.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
It's nice to see hey, when you're not doing music
and out there and hitting the stage and playing live shows.
What are some of your favorite things the hobbies.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
To kind of do. Is it hunting and fishing?

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Well, it was more hunting before I met more hunting
than I can't. I can't move like we just had
an elk kind of out there. I'm like, I can't.
I just physically can't do that anymore. I can't. But
Doug hunting, yeah, I'm still that's coming up, so I
will be getting after that pretty soon. And I and
other than that, Honestly, I said, my wife and I
spent a lot of times with our dogs, our Belgi,
and battle the loss, trying to work those crazy things.

(19:30):
So that's about it. I can't have to played golf
since the accident. I've had some issues where I'm not
sure if I can or not. But we're still here,
We're still rocking, and we got any music. I'm still
a little out there. Baby, You're a lot out there,
no doubt about it. Hey, tell me about that, you know,
turn former pro golfer, turn country musician. A lot of
things integrate themselves between music and sports out there, the

(19:50):
tough mentality and knowing what it's like to be an athlete,
the grind of being a musician full time making music
and touring and doing things like that. I love it
here because it's such a great crossover. Tell us about that,
because at mindset of an athlete kind of completes you
as an artist.

Speaker 4 (20:02):
Didn't it it does?

Speaker 2 (20:03):
I mean, and it's very similar. Uh, you know golf
and music. I mean when I'm on stage up there,
if I mess up the words, ain't nobody can save you.
I meant like, and I do it a lot, well,
not a lot, but every.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Now you know.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
And same in golf, like you know, when Scottischeffer was
out there, if he hits a bad shot, everybody can
see nobody can. You don't get no doovers, no mulligans
or nothing. So the biggest difference in golf and music,
I always tell people, like, in music, I know what
I'm getting paid before I start golf, I don't know
till I'm finished. And that's a pretty handy piece of
advice to have had nice information to know before you

(20:37):
go start spending money.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Hey, tell us about the arrangement with Creed Fisher. Love
this one too.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Creed's been knocking on the doors for a long time,
one called Dirty and then the one you had Kaden
maguire come on with this one called farm Boy.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
Love those two songs again.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
I met Creed's on my record label. I've been a
fan of Creed for a while. I meant, he just
he gets at these you know, he Texas boy, And
that song is just kind of just what it says,
ladies love a man with some tough on him. I meant, like,
that's kind of what it is. Me and Hem are
just both kind of good old boys. We can fix it.
We can do whatever we need to do to make

(21:13):
it happen. And that so it made sense with us
to do that song and the Caaden McGuire again, another
kid I met online and just became friends with him,
and he's a good kid and he's wanted to get
into the music and stuff. And I said, man, I
got a song that might be cool for us, and
so yeah, we did that too. So, you know, the

(21:34):
opportunity to give a young artist a chance to be
a part of my fan base that has been so
good for twenty years is a neat thing to be
able to do.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
I love the last arrangement there with Shades and of
course Yellowolf on there, and though Brian Martin was on
there with you too talking about this one.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
For me, that one is that one is a little
out there. I met people who wanted me and Yelling
to work together for a while. Of course Brian Martin
and I are friends. We worked on lots of things,
and I just have to find the right song, and yells,
I meant, he's not a guy that's just gonna do
the record because your friends. I mean, he just not
liked that. And uh so we talked for several years

(22:12):
about trying to find one, and then all of a sudden,
it's like, I think.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
I might have one. I sent it to him.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
He was in New Zealand. I just I just sent
him a song and I woke up to he had
already voice recorded his verse. He like he got he
was like, I did it right back to me, and
uh yeah, it's just really cool. It's a cool record.
It's it's me doing the best of of me doing

(22:38):
more of the hip hop thing and him doing He's
he's a genius lyrically, so it's a it's a good
representation of both of us and and Brian on there.
Just makes it real cool. It's a very outlaw kind
of It's a banger, it really is.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
It's out there, no doubt too. Let's go so creative
of music. You mentioned about the opportunities and then putting
things out there and going viral and doing your mom's
basement things like that too, Just being creative with and
I think there's something for everybody out there, and that's
what makes it special right now. A lot of diversity
in the industry too, because there's lyrics and crossovers. I
love these collaborations going on with music right now too
that you mentioned, not just with your record, but I'll

(23:12):
cross the board, right I think it's great.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
I mean, and I was kind of the first to really,
you know, their collaboration has been around, but I was
the first of like all of a sudden, they're like, wait,
you got seven collaborations on the record, Like I start,
you know, I started doing that because at first I
was scared, so scared of saying I wouldn't do it.
So that's the way it started. And now it's just
it's everywhere and the fans love it. I mean, it's
so funny. I mean, I was ten years ahead of

(23:36):
ahead of the curve. Truthfully, I meant because now that's
it's okay. When I was doing it, they looked at
me like I had, you know, six heads and something.
You know, I'd walk in some radio stations they're like,
you're right fro. I'm like, no, I'm country as tall grass.
I don't know what you're talking about. But you think
that I ain't country, or my fans ain't country. We've
from way different kinds of countries.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
I thing to tell you that's now your country. Nothing
tell you this, and it's in your way. And I
love the variety. Hey, we'll finish with this one. If
you were not a working musician, you mentioned the golf thing,
but was there another career path out there beside pro
golfer or was it pro golfer all the way?

Speaker 2 (24:10):
You know, since I was probably ten, there's not a
friend of mine that wouldn't tell you that. I said
I was going to play professonal golf and make music.
And I've been really blessed to be able to do
both of those things and somehow make a living at it.
So there's easier paths. But I meant, I just do
whatever I've dug a ditch too if I had to
go back to doing that. You do what you gotta
do to make it work when you're a country.

Speaker 3 (24:31):

family too as well, and of course a busy man.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
