your hosts Andy Nagle and Big Mo Barrett.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's a rainy Wednesday on the Big Mo Podcast. I
can't think of a better time, better venue than right
here in the new w MOE studios on a rainy Wednesday,
with Daniel Barnard sitting in Daniel z interned Daniel Glance
at twenty twenty two, sitting in for Andy Nagle, who
is back from vacation, but he has a laundry list

(00:38):
of things he needs to catch up on. We have
Daniel in turning. I said, Andy, stay down stairs. We'll
bring Daniel up to the studios for the big show.
How you doing, Daniel, Hey, I'm good.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
It's good to be back on the podcast. I haven't
been on in a few weeks, so I'm glad to
be back.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
This is what you love, right, this is talking, but
we got you doing a lot of other things, and
I know you are working on a big project. I
kind of put this in your lap and I said, Daniel,
own it and own it. You have tell everybody, and
we're breaking the news today about a big kickoff show
we have coming up to kick off the Molar football season.

(01:16):
Give the fans what they want to know.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
It's going to be a very exciting night. August the
eighteenth here in about just a little over a month now.
It's crazy how quickly time is flying here throughout the summer.
But August the eighteenth, over at the Silver Spring House,
we're going to be having a kickoff to the football season,
just like you said, Bart, the kickoff to their revenge

(01:41):
tour to get back to Canton and this time bring
home the hardware. We want to send them off with
some good juju. We're gonna have a radio show there
that we're going to try to get some Molar celebrities there.
For get their thoughts on everything.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Finds a Molar celebrity.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
A Molar celebrity to what is crity to me when
we're talking about football, at least that would be somebody
that has either played or coached. That's my personal under securitate,
so that I'm not saying that this is confirmed, but
like the Sam Hubbards of the world and the Doug Rossfeld.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Could that be a tees. Could that be could that
be a tease?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
I don't know. I can't even say one hundred percent.
I'm still waiting on the confirmation.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Will the cheerleader have you have you have you made
contact with the cheerleaders yet?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
In the band, I have made contact with jason Niehouse
and he is going to help me make contact with
the cheerleaders.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
You used to call that in the SWAT team, we
used to call that third party intermediaries. So you have
a third party intermediary. We're working on your behalf.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Yes, we're working on getting the cheerleaders there. We're working
on getting the band there where We're trying to make
this as is I as much of a molar pep rally,
so to say, as you can just over at the
Silver Spring House to kick off the football season food drank.
Of course, it's it's a restaurant, so it's gonna be
there and we're gonna fill up the room. When when

(03:04):
you walk in, just to the right of that seat's
about seventy five. So we're gonna have the some of
the players there, We're gonna have Coach b there talking
to all of them, getting their thoughts on the season
coming up. I mean, they are super locked in, so
not sure how much we're gonna get out of them.
Especially how about Jared game Week?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
How about Jared Springhouse? Awesome?

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Jared, Yeah, absolutely he is. He has been amazing to
work with, super cooperative.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
And since we mentioned Silver Springhouse on the air, do
we get a gift card? Is that how that works?
So rich?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
I think so? Twenty five dollars, fifty dollars Jared, if.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
You're listening, it's nine thousand and one Montgomery Road. Send
it now and send it fast. It's gonna be fun.
It's gonna be a lot of fun. It really is
a we've done these before, Daniel and and it really
is the the unofficial kick off to the football season.
There's always a lot of energy, a lot of passion.
You know, the team hasn't started yet, so everybody, ever

(04:00):
team in the city starts out fresh and starts out new,
and they got this this energy that is palpable. And
when it's mole or high school, there's an expectation that
this football team is going to be really good. I
think they will. And we'll talk to some of the
captains of the football team. Talked to coach b he
will be there as well. I'm really, really really looking

(04:21):
forward to it, and thanks for all your work putting
that together as well.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. It's gonna be a
fun night over at the spring House.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Hey, we got We're gonna step out quickly, more quickly
than normal because we have an action packed show. We
have Jason Neehouse, the aforementioned Jason Kneehouse El Presidente, jumping
on the podcast when we come back from a break.
We'll also have some other guests including Cleveland Brown's tight End,

(04:50):
Brendan Bates, and a special He's a Kentucky Wildcat. This
is a Kentucky Wildcat kind of show. If you're a
Kentucky fan, you want to listen to the show.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
My right, Yeah, we we made some jokes earlier. This
is the This is the Big Cat Podcast.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Big Cat Podcast.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Don't want to run any any copyright issues with Big
Cat over Bull barstool.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
He doesn't listen the hell with him?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
All right?

Speaker 2 (05:14):
We have we got uh so we got we We
just mentioned it. So we have to start off Jason
in the house, who's not a Kentucky guy. But then
we have Brendan Bates from Kentucky and when Brendan's here,
Matt I just saw downstairs. I said, Matt, why don't
you pop in? You just committed to Kentucky. So Matt
will join the show as well, alongside Brendan Bates in studio.

(05:36):
And then we have a guy who also pitched for
the Kentucky Wildcats, Zach Log. You'll be catching up with Zach.
Zach is not in studio though, he is eating Korean
food in Soul, Korea, and I think he's gracious enough
to jump on a phone call. I think it's like
midnight over there or something like that. So Zach will
be updating us on his progress over there as well,

(05:58):
and much more bed Netway an Action Pact show. He's
Daniel Barnard. I'm Big Mo Perrett. We'll be back with
Jason Eehouse, who's in the green room eating Montgomery in
when we come back on the best coverage of high
school sports and more Woe and the more Broadcasting Network.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
If you need electric work in your home or business,
give the pros a Craftsman Electric Call. A family business
owned by Molargrads, Craftsman has won the Anti Super Service
Award fifteen years in a Row Craftsman Electric Quality Craftsmanship
gets in their.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Name as Championship Soccer brings Molar Nation together. W MOE
School is to bring you the latest updates on the
run to a state title. Follow new head coach Tony
Ripberger and your Moler Crusaders soccer team right here on
WOOE and the Molar Broadcasting networking a big more podcast,

(07:03):
and we have the president of more Or High School,
Jason Niehouse in studio popping in. I feel like we're
what four weeks away, maybe five something like that away
from the start of the school year. But I feel
like once you hit July fourth, and you get over
July fourth, it's we're locked and loaded. I mean, we're
ready to roll. And I got a feeling you probably
feel the same.

Speaker 5 (07:24):
Boy's starting to feel the energy build here in the school.
But before we even really start talking about the school year,
I want to do a shout out to a few
people who are really doing some transformative work improving the
facilities here. Some may notice the minute that they turned
right off of Montgomery Road to that new surface, So
you know, Mike al and James, you know.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
They did not have a summer vacation they've been here
every day grinding they have.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
They have, and and the students, the parents will will
immediately see the efforts of their work. And you know,
those those three gentlemen are just extra ordinary individuals. Oftentimes
are behind the scenes. You don't see the work that
they're doing, but they experience. You experience it every day,
and when you encounter any of them, they are extraordinary gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
So I just want to want to shut up. Typical
moler people humble, the humility, they don't don't want the attention.
If they heard you talking about them, their blood pressure
would probably go up. But you're right, what they do,
it's those unspoken things that you will see when you
come under the campus. You'll just feel it. It's and
it's all the hard work and the love of this
job that they've put it.

Speaker 5 (08:34):
So any student who has needed to have their rims
bent out or their alignment redone by driving through potholes
in our back parking lot.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Those no longer no longer.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
So please be sure at the start of the school
year if you see Mike out or James, give them
a fist bump, give them a big thank you, because
the work that they've done over the summer is really
creating the space that's truly reflective of what it is
that we do.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I can't remember who it was that said. It might
have been how no Is Mike Wagner. He says, you know,
we have this beautiful innovation hub now and all the
things that we've done, the theater and and and just
transformed this entire campus, the parking lot. It was kind
of the final bow, you know, because there was a
lot when you when you bring in this heavy equipment
and do all this, it does some damage to the
to the just the pavement, and so that's the final

(09:25):
bow on the entire campus. It's beautiful, really, it is.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
Yep, yep, looks great, all ready to go when uh,
you know, school years a start here just shortly. It
just came from Jonathan Hayes' office. Our first first kickoff
is August twenty third, So that's crazy barreling down down
the track.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
So are you excited for your first kind of official
start of the school year? You know?

Speaker 5 (09:49):
As I as I looked at the back half of
the year and saw some images on the first half,
the thing that I'm probably looking for to the most
is day one standing out in front of Molar High School,
welcoming you know, our freshmen to Molar High School and
then welcoming back you know, our seniors, our junior, my son,

(10:13):
and our sophomore. You know, as I see that the seniors,
I always remind them, you know, what is it that
you're going to leave? You know, it is your time,
your moment to leave your imprint on Molar High School.
You essentially become the leaders of this school and and
help me. But but they play an instrumental part.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
They said this school for sure, they said the whole year.
So I'm excited to see what it is that they do.

Speaker 5 (10:42):
We have some incredible, uh individuals in this senior class
from all aspects of you know, of our work, and so.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
I'm excited to see with the school president Adam Holstein,
a great young man who I've been fortunate to watch
rise as a freshman, sophomore gin and you got Tyler
Joscelyn Sunshine and just forgive me for that, I haven't
met the third one as well. But just the leadership
that these guys are going to bring to this entire school,

(11:12):
I'm excited about. There's some great dudes, some great leaders.
What's on next four weeks, what do you have as president,
Like what do you kind of like polishing everything up,
like what what's on the what's the lion's share of
your work right now?

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Rather, it's really leaning in, you know, as I said,
spring break really was an opportunity for me to get
get some moments of clarity, thinking that then May was
going to be my moment to really put the pen
to paper and and create the strategy for the next year.
And then May came and went right, I mean, with
all of the obligations that come with May that went

(11:44):
June was not too much different June. You know, June
moved through pretty rapidly as well too. But you know,
from now and to the to the beginning of the
school year, it's really leaning in on what is our
focus for uh as as as leaders as fact for
the for the incoming school year. You know, what are
what are the things that we're going to focus on

(12:06):
to make this school better. We're going to be embarking
on a new five year strategic plan, so we're kicking
that off as well too. A lot of work with
that in just a short period of time. I just
this is this is breaking news. Hot off the press.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Off the press, I had.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
The opportunity of meeting individuals within the within our Finance
Committee and we'll be announcing a new CFO here in
the in the coming days.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
So so it's.

Speaker 5 (12:33):
About really getting everybody geared up, lined up to to
provide yet another remarkable year of being the leaders and
educating young men.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Incredible, a lot of good stuff. Jason. We are going
to keep you short. You got to jump into a meeting,
but I just wanted to get you on here and
perhaps maybe next week maybe dive a little bit more
with you into kind of what I'd like to maybe
share with the class of twenty twenty nine, the Molar
family that that's not here yet. There's a there's excitement,
but there's probably some anxiety as well. What do you

(13:03):
expect when they first come. So if you're open to it,
maybe inviting you back next week on the Big MO
podcast to talk about some of the things that they
can expect coming in. Maybe get j John Huffin here
and maybe talk a little bit more about what the
class at twenty twenty nine the families can expect because
it is it's something special. But any chance we can

(13:24):
to maybe alleviate some anxiety would be one request.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
We get one of those young young men who's going
to be the leader of the good Adam Holstein in
here to help tell that story.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
That's a great idea. You got a couple of good ideas.
A feel, just a feel that's not bad. Hey. We
got some more special guests coming on the Big Mo
podcast as well, including a man of Molar, from the
Kentucky Wildcats and currently a member of the Cleveland Browns.
He is Brendan Bates. He's in the green room. We'll
have him coming up next on the best coverage of

(13:56):
high school sports and more. Here at the greatest high

This is Little Grouse of the Cleveland Browns. Hi, Ohio

(15:01):
for Cleveland. I'm backing a big mo podcast and excited
to welcome into the studio for the first time. I
think in studio. We've had him on the air before,
but not in studio. Brendan Bates Say, Kentucky wildcat MANA

(15:24):
Mueller from class of twenty eighteen and unfortunately for Cincinnati
Bengals fan, also on the roster for the Cleveland Browns. Brenda,
welcome to the big show. Good to be here. Man.
We've had you on the air before, but not in studio.
But I also have sitting next to you, Matt Ponatowski.
And there's a reason for this obviously. Matt just committing
to the University of Kentucky. You a Kentucky guy too.

(15:48):
I'm going to start off by saying what I told
you off the air. Matt's direction is pretty clear from me,
throw to tight ends. Can we do that? And Brandon
you agree with that. Throw the time tight ends hundred percent.
Tight ends are the way to make things happen. Uh.
First and foremost, Brendon, what's it like you come back
to Molar High School? You have been back. I think

(16:08):
you've actually been working out of your training here, but
you haven't been in the building though, Yeah, for some time.
I just took you through what's going through your head.

Speaker 6 (16:15):
It looks a lot different in a good way, obviously.
More like we discussed like a college campus, which is
I mean, something that I would love to have had
when when I was here. Obviously I think the I'm
kind of overwhelmed a little bit, but everything I just saw,
but I would say, like my favorite edition was that

(16:36):
like investing area, the benches, the stairs and all that,
it's very college campus esque where you know, that's what
Mouler's about, you know, prepping you for the next level.
And I think it's it's it's done really well.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Does it feel weird to come back? Because I always
hear guys say, you know, they're removed for four or five,
six years and then they come back and then they
get all those memories triggered. Not all good. Of course,
you may grinding on the football field or whatever, but
a lot of memories start flowing back. Is it that?
And you've been back for a couple of weeks. Is
that happened with you as well?

Speaker 6 (17:10):
Yeah, Like I took my fiance. Obviously we worked out
together on the field. I did most of the working out,
but good things. She doesn't listen to the Big Mo podcast,
but uh yeah, like I was telling her on the field,
I was just telling her, like all the memories I
had here with everyone.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
I mean, Mohler does a.

Speaker 6 (17:29):
Really good job with with the brotherhood, like the house system,
all that stuff. And I was telling her that, and
I think some of it went over her heead. But
she she was asking me all these questions, like you
know about uh, you know, the stadium in general, the
field like where I guess, like where the the weight

(17:51):
room that we had or that we had had so
many memories there. And I remember I took her down
there with the It was her and and Blum Michael, yeah,
coach Blum, and introduced him and her and uh, it's
just really good, man. A lot of it is a
little overwhelming. To look back, like I just saw coach
Campbell and I haven't seen him in ages, And you

(18:13):
just think about all the memories that we had in basketball,
you know, and do you think about all the guys
that were on that team like Jackson and then you know,
like a bunch of other guys that you know, I'm
not going to name all of them, but it's just
the brotherhood here is is something that I think that
I took a little bit for granted because you're not
going to get that anywhere else.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
So when you talk about the brotherhood, and I always
challenge our guys, Bet and I probably have adv asked you.
Every school says they have brotherhood, right every school. When
I was at Olsal, they said they had brotherhood these
other schools. But it's different here. And I try to
articulate that to young men in grade school who were
tried to try and just discern do they come to

(18:55):
this school versus this school? But it is different. I
will ask Brendan b how is the brotherhood different here?
And can you articulate it or is it just a feeling?

Speaker 6 (19:07):
That's a really good question. I think the reason it's
different here than anywhere else is like I mentioned earlier
the house system, and I don't know if you guys
still do this, but like when he's competing in those games,
like we have those fun minigames and all that stuff,
the pep pep probablys and whatnot. But uh, I think
that just brings everyone closer together and the relationships that

(19:31):
I made with those guys, Like I told you, I mean,
I'm about to get married in a year and every
single one of my groom's men are Minimore.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
That's crazy getting married in a year. Do you ever
think that day would come? You finally found somebody that
can pay along that can from Cincinnati.

Speaker 6 (19:50):
She is from Pittsburgh, so, uh well.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
That's not going to go. Well, you played for the Browns.

Speaker 6 (19:56):
She yeah, Well, a lot of our our chemistry together
is that I'm a huge Uh well, I was a
huge Bengals fan obviously growing up since that, and she
was a huge yeah Steelers fan, so game game days
were a lot of fun there. But uh yeah, no,
she's she's honestly happy that I'm in the AFC North
and it's good to be back in a whisle.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
I'm excited because we were down in the courtyard checking
out the new Blessed Mother Courtyard and you had Matt
was I saw Matt. Matt screamed down a boo bear
and I said, Matt, come over here. We got two
Kentucky guys here. I'm thinking this has to be an
interview opportunity here. Matt just committed to Kentucky. Taking this
back to twenty seventeen ish and and you going through

(20:39):
that process, that recruiting process. What ended up being clear
to you that Lexington was the place for you to
go for BBN and Big Blue Nation in Kentucky to
where you would continue your collegiate career. How was that
recruiting process, Like.

Speaker 6 (20:53):
Yeah, well, the recruiting process, I'm sure now it's probably
even at a bigger scale, but.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I kind of wish you had that NIOL.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
Oh yeah, don't even get me started on that. Don't
even get me started on that. But yeah, man, the recruiting,
the recruiting process was absolutely nuts. But the biggest sell
to me at Kentucky was not only it's it's far
away from home, but not too far. The SEC Conference
is I think, and I maybe a little bit biased,

(21:22):
but I think it's the best conference in all of sports.
I also they just renovated their facility. Like everything that
they've done, they've renovated in like twenty sixteen, I think
around there. So I'm just coming into this this beautiful,
beautiful weight room. Everything was completely redone, the training of facility,

(21:45):
the film rooms were really nice, Like everything was just
really nice and it just felt like home. Also, my
there is some family connection there because my mom she
went to the University of Kentucky, but my grandpa played
basketball there. So I've growing up, I've always kind of
like had Kentucky in mind and you know, just being

(22:06):
reminded of it, and I always.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
So you were drinking the kool lad early. Yeah, you
could say that's yeah, the blue kool Aid. Yeah, I mean,
I h.

Speaker 6 (22:16):
Kentucky is also on the visit Like we we pulled
over and Kentucky Hideway Kentucky Highway, and it's the only
place you can pull over and then just like call
some horses over and pet some horses. I mean, it's
one of the coolest places. The campus is beautiful. They
just when I was there, they were just redoing or
building the new Student Center.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
UK.

Speaker 6 (22:35):
Like Kentucky degree is a great degree, so it just
checked all the boxes for me, and what was your
degree in? So I got two degrees. It was in uh,
consumer economics and personal finance and then my other one.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
That's why that investment was speaking to you. Yeah, that's
why that's my favorite. Yeah, Brett, and it's awesome. Man.
I what I love about guys like you is whenever
I text you or call you hate can you come
on the show or can you do this? You're like,
i'm in, i'm in, i'm in, i'm in, I'm in.
You're never big time me. You've never done big time Moler,
and you've always remembered, you know the old phrase I've
said on this show many times, be nice to that

(23:11):
people going I've said this to you, Matt, be nice
that people going up the ladder because you meet the
same people coming down and you've obviously locked in on that.
Thanks for everything you've done for Mollan representing. And actually
you're the one guy Kentucky tight end who actually comes
back and comes on the podcast because a guy by
the named of Josh Katis you can't find him with
a search one say we love Josh, we love Josh Brendan.

(23:34):
Thanks so much, you really appreciate it. It's pretty cool
to have you and Matt on the BMP. Very cool,
thanks man. That's Brendan Bates, Kentucky Wildcat and Cleveland Brown,
but more importantly a man of Bowland. We have more
in depth team coverage talking Moler High School. When we
come back from a break. You're listening to the best

Speaker 3 (24:34):
Back on the Big Mo Podcast. Daniel Barnard joining you
now as your co host with Baron Cohen. We have
another very special guest on the phone with us here today,
another Kentucky guys. Zach Log on the phone, joining us
from halfway across the world, South Korea. Zach, how you

(24:55):
doing today?

Speaker 7 (24:56):
I'm doing well. I'm doing well.

Speaker 8 (24:58):
Happy to be on the podcast, gonna be talking to
you you guys.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
We're happy to have you on as well. It's been
a while since you've been able to talk to the
Molar community. Zach. I kind of teed it up as
you're overseas playing professional baseball right now in Soul, South Korea.
So let's do some math, right, we were texting back
and forth trying to get on the podcast. That is

(25:22):
thirteen hours difference, Is that correct? It is ten to
fifteen pm.

Speaker 7 (25:28):
It is ten to fifteen pm. That's correct.

Speaker 3 (25:30):
That is some hardcore stuff right there. And you're and
you're joining us on the podcast. It's nine to fifteen
am Cincinnati time, ten to fifteen am Soul time. We
really appreciate your time. Don't want to understate that.

Speaker 7 (25:43):
Yeah, of course, of course have to be on. Yeah,
we've already what day is it today? I think it's Wednesday.

Speaker 8 (25:48):
We already had our whole Wednesday, and you guys are
just getting started.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
We're just getting started. It's we've got to make it
a great day. I'm sure you've already made.

Speaker 8 (25:55):
It a great day, of course.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
So let's get into some substance here, zachly let's let's
turn back the clock a little bit. You're a twenty
fifteen grad at Molar and then you went on to
play college baseball at the University of Kentucky. And we're joking.
Before we started recording here, Kentucky seems to sort of

(26:18):
becoming the Molar pipeline. We had Brendan Bates on earlier
in the podcast. Matt Ponatowski obviously the football and baseball
commit at Kentucky. He was on the podcast. So Big
Blue Nations loving this one. You got a message for
Big Blue Nation.

Speaker 8 (26:35):
Yeah, I mean, I think it's a great place to
go to school. It's a great place to play sports obviously. Yeah,
like Molar, we have all these great athletes, and I
think the appeal is to go down there and play
in the SEC and play against the best competition in
the country. So I hope we can keep that pipeline
going a little bit longer.

Speaker 3 (26:55):
It is certainly very strong that that pipeline is. So
let's kind of start to talk about your your playing career.
It's it's been quite the journey for you, at least
looking at it on paper. So you graduate Moler, you
head over to Kentucky, how many years were you at
Kentucky for.

Speaker 8 (27:16):
Yeah, so I was at Kentucky for three years. I
was there for the twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, and twenty
seventeen season, and I got drafted after that.

Speaker 3 (27:24):
You get drafted in the ninth round, is what I'm
reading on my screen. We all know those can be wrong,
but so you get drafted in the ninth round to
the Toronto Blue Jays, that team up north, right, not
maybe not Michigan, but the team across the border over
in Canada, to the Toronto Blue Jays. Kind of kind
of talked to me about the emotions of, you know,

(27:46):
getting drafted after three years and in school at Kentucky,
you're playing some summer ball for some other teams as well.
Talk to the emotions of getting drafted as a major
League baseball player.

Speaker 8 (27:58):
Yeah, I mean it was kind of one of those
things where you know, growing up, you always you obviously
have that dream, and you never you know, you're you're
twelve and you don't really know what's going on, and
then you kind of get to high school and still
obviously it sounds great, but don't really know how realistic
it is. And then you know, I was kind of
going through my career at Kentucky, had a little bit

(28:19):
of success and had some people talking to me about,
you know, playing at the next level, and start, you know,
coming around to my junior year and there's there's scouts
there obviously watching other players.

Speaker 7 (28:32):
Riley Mayhon included another Moler.

Speaker 8 (28:35):
Grad, and you start hearing, you know, there's certain teams
that are interested, they were here to watch this star.
They liked you, these guys are interested and stuff like that,
and yeah, it was definitely a surreal moment to hear
my name called. It was a bit of a stressful day,
as you can imagine, because you just don't know when
when you're going to get that call, if you're going

(28:56):
to get that call, But you know, eventually got picked
picked by the Blue Jay Is in the ninth round,
like you said, and ended up being a great thing
for me.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
Hey, you got the call. And baseball has so many
rounds in their draft. We saw it again just the
other day with the UH with the first year Player
draft over this past weekend. You got drafted in the
ninth round. Relatively speaking, round wise, that's pretty early in
the draft. So that that's a I would say that's
a that's a pretty good selection for you, and you

(29:23):
you went on to play a few years in the
minor leagues, worked your way up, and eventually ended up
making your debut in twenty twenty two. And that is,
that is the ultimate goal for every young boy playing baseball,
is to step foot on a major league field, especially
a major league mound. Can you talk through the emotions

(29:45):
that you experienced heading out to that mound for your
very first major league game?

Speaker 8 (29:51):
Yeah, of course, I remember it very vividly. We were
at home at the Oakland Collseum and we were playing
the oriole At the time, it was it was a
midweek game, so as you can imagine, with and you
know how how bad the A's for that year, there
weren't very many people, uh in the crowd, but my

(30:12):
parents were there, my wife was there.

Speaker 7 (30:15):
So I remember being really really.

Speaker 8 (30:16):
Nervous warming up. I think I launched a couple of balls,
you know, to the back of the backstop.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (30:22):
So I was really nervous warming up, But honestly, as
I got onto the mound, the nerves kind of settled,
and you know, I was able to get through I
think an inning and a third and I got super lucky.
I snuck out a win in my debut, so I
got really really lucky. But yeah, it was a dream
came true. And having my parents there, you know, they
were obviously huge, huge supporters of me growing up. I

(30:44):
wouldn't have wouldn't have made it there without them. And
then my wife, you know, she was there through the
entire journey as well, So it was it was a
very very special moment.

Speaker 3 (30:53):
We're talking with Zach Low class of twenty fourteen alum
currently playing overseas and in South Korea. Zach will get
to that in just a second. A you bring up
the support that you had through this whole journey from
whether it be your wife, your parents, your friends. How
important is that, especially like we just mentioned with the

(31:15):
first year player draft concluding, how important is that support
coming up through the early stages of your career from
the people around you just to kind of keep you
level headed and humble so to say.

Speaker 8 (31:29):
Yeah, of course, I mean especially early on in the
minor leagues. You know, you're not making a ton of money,
so just purely from a financial standpoint, from having my
parents there to like, you know, they help with food
and housing and you know, I lived with them for
a couple of years after college, so just you know,
a purely financial standpoint was huge from that support. But yeah,

(31:51):
you kind of mentioned keeping a level head. I think
that's something my wife does really really well. You know,
you're at the field for a long time for you know,
a bunch of days in a row, so you need
a way to get away from the game and kind
of relax a little bit. And she's she's a great
she does a great job with me for that just
kind of we can hang out, we can relax, we

(32:12):
can go do different things, and we don't have to
talk about baseball. So yeah, I think having a good
support system around you is huge.

Speaker 7 (32:20):
It's it's all the way.

Speaker 8 (32:22):
From you know, making sure that you're eating the right thing,
getting enough sleep, and you know, keeping keeping everything on
the right track.

Speaker 7 (32:29):
So that's a huge thing.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
That's amazing to hear you talk about eating the right thing. Well,
you're you're you're over at Soul, South Korea. You guys
got quite the different food selection over there right now.
We're talking about that before we got on the before
we got on the air as well, before we get
into your playing career over there, yeah, you want to
you want to talk about just kind of the differences

(32:52):
in culture from the United States of America to South
Korea just kind of yeah, I mean made inform the
listener about all the changes that you've experienced.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (33:02):
Yeah, it was definitely a bit of a culture shock.
And I had been other to other countries before, but
definitely more western countries, so going to Asia for the
first time was was definitely a different experience. You know,
they're very they're very very respectful over here, especially to
their elders. So it's kind of funny, like everybody on
the team knows what year everybody else was born, so

(33:25):
they know who they need to, you know, show a
little bit more respect to and all that kind of stuff.
So that was a little bit of a of a
learning curve for me. And then yeah, you kind of
mentioned the food. There's there's a lot of a lot
of interesting stuff over here. I've eaten beef intestines, I've
eaten all kinds of different different fish and seafood and

(33:47):
stuff like that. But I will say the food is
really really good, so I highly recommend that.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (33:54):
Then just the style of baseball is different. I think
it's kind of more of what we would think of
as old school baseball. There's a lot of bunting, there's stealing,
there's hitting runs, there's just guys getting on base and
trying to cause havoc on the bases. So it was
a little bit of a learning curve. But I highly
recommend checking out Korean baseball. The fans are extremely passionate.

(34:15):
They're loud. There's not a second of silence throughout the
entire game. So it's been really, really fun so far.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
Zach you played for You threw in a couple games
for the Dodgers in twenty fourteen, kind kind of going
back to your twenty twenty four excuse me not twenty fourteen.
Graduated more in twenty twenty four. See, you threw a
couple of games for the world champion Dodgers. I know
your stay wasn't all that long with them, but did

(34:44):
you get a World Series Ring?

Speaker 7 (34:46):
I did? I did.

Speaker 8 (34:47):
I was extremely lucky that the timing worked out with
all that kind of stuff, but I did go to
World Series Ring. I haven't actually seen it in person yet.
They they sent it to me early this season, so
I've been over here the whole time. Obviously, so I
haven't seen it, but yeah, I've seen some videos of
it and it is pretty cool.

Speaker 7 (35:07):
I'm gonna say, Man.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Of Moler and a World Series ring to your name.
I'm sure you can't wait to put that on when
you get back.

Speaker 8 (35:15):
I know, I know, I mean, that might be one
of the first things I do.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Okay, so let's jump back over to uh, your time
in South Korea here. I wanted to get that note
on the World Series ring in before I forgot.

Speaker 8 (35:27):
Yeah, thank thanks for thank thanks for getting that in
for me.

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Every Yeah, absolutely gotta plug.

Speaker 8 (35:31):
Anyway we can, right, Yeah, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
So you've currently played for a team called the Bears. Well,
what is the city name?

Speaker 2 (35:40):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (35:40):
The city name is it dus In?

Speaker 8 (35:44):
Yeah, so Duson is it's actually a company. So all
the all the teams over here are owned by by companies,
so all the teams take the company name as kind
of their their first name. So yeah, Duson is like, uh,
kind of like robot company, Like I don't I don't
know if you've heard of the company Bobcat. They do
a lot of like heavy machinery like bulldozers and tractors

(36:08):
and stuff like that. So they own Bobcat. But yeah,
the douce On Bears were we're fighting for a playoff spot.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Fighting for a playoff spot. Now, your guys, regular season
is about the same amount of time as a normal
major league regular season. Is that? I know you guys
finished towards the end of September. When do you guys start?

Speaker 8 (36:30):
Yeah, the season is almost exactly the same. We play
a few less games. We play one hundred and forty
four games. Well, the major league play one sixty two,
so we have a few less games, but we have
we only have ten teams over here, so you know,
you can only play the other nine teams so many
times before it gets a little old. So maybe it's
a good thing we don't quite play one sixty two.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
You could get awfully familiar with the competition.

Speaker 7 (36:53):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Well, there you go, So one hundred and forty four
game regular season. I'm sure that you're a little bit
used to that with the minor league schedule. I don't
know how many games the minor league teams exactly play,
but I think it's exactly one sixty two. So I'm
sure that's a little bit familiar for you as.

Speaker 7 (37:12):
Well, for sure.

Speaker 8 (37:13):
Yeah, that's the uh's the I think it's the exact
are close to the same amount as the minor league
over there. But the playoffs, the playoffs here are really interesting.

Speaker 7 (37:23):
We'll see if we make it or not.

Speaker 8 (37:25):
But uh so, five of the ten teams make it,
and so the first round is the fifth seed versus
the four seed in a three game series, and then
the winner of that goes on and plays the third
third seeded team from the regular season, and in the
winner of that plays the second seeded team and so on.
So if you come in first in the playoffs over here,

(37:48):
you get an automatic buy to like the championship series,
which is which is just crazy to me.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
That is crazy, but I'm that by at the same time,
I'm sure it's also multiple weeks to a month if
if there's all those others series going on at the
same time.

Speaker 8 (38:01):
Yeah, it's I don't I like, this is my first
season over here, so I haven't fully experienced it yet.
But yeah, it almost seems to me like you'd want
to be like the second or third seed, so you
get a little bit of rest, but you kind of
can knock some of the rust off before you play.

Speaker 7 (38:15):
You know, the most meaningful games of the year.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
I want to go back to your time at Molar
in sort of how it kind of prepared you for
the I would say crazy journey that you've been on
through college, the minor leagues, the major leagues, and now
overseas in South Korea. Do you think that Molar prepared
you for that time?

Speaker 8 (38:36):
Yeah, I mean, I think from a from a sports standpoint,
you know, the second you walk on campus, you're you're
going to be faced with a lot of a lot
of competition. You know, like it's not like you can
just walk up and make every single team, and even
if you do make it, you're not just going to
walk out there and automatically start. So you got to
kind of earn your playing time. You got to earn
your spot on the team. So I think from you know,

(38:59):
from an early age high school, it kind of taught
me that I need to earn every rep that I'm
going to get out there in the game. So, yeah,
nothing is.

Speaker 7 (39:08):
Given at Muller.

Speaker 8 (39:08):
You got to earn it, and I think that definitely
prepared me for life after high school.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
Earn every rep. I love it. Well, Zach, thank you
so much for taking time out of what is now
your nights to join us over here on the Big

and uh, it'd be great experience. Man. Can you imagine
being his age and going to Seoul, South Korea and
playing baseball coming off a World championship run with the
Los Angeles Dodgers having a World Championship ring that he's

Speaker 3 (40:54):

a taste of the majors over here, He's getting a
taste of Korean baseball over there. He is, He's living
