Speaker 1 (00:01):
WMO and the MOLA broadcasting that way probably was that
the Big Mo Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
The Big MOL Podcast is brought to you by Craftsman
Electric and Revey Landscaping.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
And now your host's Andy Nagle and Big Mo Barrett.
It's the Big Mo Podcast. Another Wednesday, another b MP
here on the campus of Big me. If it's quiet,
it's because I'm flying this plane solo, solo, because Andy
Nagle is out on assignment. Today's a big day. It's
(00:33):
Moller Freshman Retreat in Orgonia, Ohio. Have you ever been
to Orgonia? Beautiful part of the country in Warren County,
just outside Lebanon, a stone's throw from the Golden Lamb.
But be flying this plane solo. We continue to remember
our thoughts in prayers for Dylan Strawn, class of twenty
(00:58):
twenty eight and all those who loved him. He passed
away last week. On Friday, we will honor Dylan his
memory the impact he made here at Moeller. There is
a visitation here at school from nine to thirty to
ten thirty Friday morning, and then a celebration of life
(01:21):
that will occur at eleven am. They usually do the
celebration of life. I think after the funeral, so it's
a little bit, a little bit different. We're going to
do nine thirty to ten thirty, the visitation in the gym,
the celebration of life at eleven am in the Paul E.
Flag Performing Arts Center, and then they will have a
(01:43):
private funeral for immediate families only next week, I'm told so.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Strong family. Our
prayers for the pose of the souls of Dylan Strawn,
a great young man. I've talked to him once or twice,
(02:05):
but admittedly did not get to know him well. But
pretty cool story that the Friday before he passed, it
was the elder game, if you remember that day, he
sent an email to campus ministry to let them know
to get it on their radar that he wanted to
be in pastoral ministry beginning next year, at least his
(02:26):
interest to do so. So this kid was locked in.
He was a volleyball player, a member of terror Roop's
marching band, the Mueller MND Band, and his trajectory was
vast and he certainly was a kid that was well
respected in the hallways in the school. Only as a
sophomore and made a tremendous impact on so many people
(02:48):
inside this school. So on Friday, we are going to
honor Dylan with our friends and family. It's again nine
thirty to ten thirty inside the gym visitation and then
a celebration of life for this man of Molar at
eleven o'clock inside the Paul E. Flag Auditorium. Lots of
(03:09):
things going on around campus. We've got some good news.
The Molar cross country team was the twenty twenty five
GCL South cross country runner ups. Top ten in the
varsity category include senior Rock Krubert came in second, Preston
Wesley came in fourth. How would you like to have
the last name Speed and you're runner, Owen Speed. You
(03:34):
know you're destined for greatness, for quickness if your name
is Owen Speed. Owen Speed finished fifth. They now set
their sights on the OHSAA Regionals next on October twenty fifth.
So congratulations to the Molar Cross country team, specifically Rock,
Preston and Owen twenty twenty five GCL South Cross Country
(03:59):
runner and what Frank Russo and Dave Pranger and all
the assistants have done with that program. We documented it
on this show. Quite a few times. It's really remarkable
what they continue to do. That gap between that team
that always finishes in first to Moeller, that gap is shrinking.
(04:19):
I guarantee you that team that wears blue, that is
a perennial first place finisher. They feel him coming and
it won't be long before Frank Russo and Dave Pranger
have those boys knocking on the doorstep of a GCL
South championship. There's no doubt about that. Other news in
and around Molar, how about Carson Hobbs. Carson Hobbs, he's
(04:43):
struggled and I think he admittedly he struggled early in
the year for the fighting Irish and it was so
cool to see Marcus Freeman last week before the game
Saturday talk about how great of a teammate work ethic,
fighting adversity, knocking the door down. Carson Hobbs has not
(05:03):
quit fighting. He was given an opportunity late in that
game to get some action. They've they've been dinged up
with some injuries up there in South ben He got
some action on the football field and late in that
game got a pick at the infact, we might be
able to cue it up here. Let's see we can
cue it out with another pick, this time Carson Hobbs.
(05:26):
I mean, if you saw Carson hobbs reaction when he
had that interception, that was awesome, well deserved. You love
to see guys who have had adversity punch it in
the face and get back off the mat. And that
is what Carson Hobbs has done. And that's what he
did on Saturday as the Irish put a whooping on
(05:48):
Uh it was North Carolina State. If I'm not mistaken,
it was North Carolina State. I believe it was North
Carolina State. They put a smack down in North Carolina State.
Congratulations to our guy, Carson Hobbs. Also, so just be
on the lookout for the Molar Crusader Fall Sports Media Guide.
You can check it out now online. You can go
to my Facebook page Big mo Berretts and you can
(06:09):
download the link. I pushed that out. I believe it
was two days ago, the issue dot com the Molar
High School Fall Sports Media Guide. And what I'll tell
you what Alease does with that least kind of takes
the lead. At least sudden Dorf in the offices downstairs.
She is fantastic. I mean, it has won awards. You know,
we always talk about being an award winning product. It
(06:32):
really is. I mean it actually has legitimately won awards.
So if you haven't checked that out, a great job
by at least Sudden Dorf the Athletic Department putting on
a fantastic, fantastic media guide. You have to check that out.
Also on my Facebook Facebook page as well. Some sad
news also if we can pass along deeply sad and
(06:55):
a good friend of the show, good friend of the
Molar family, Jim Kelly class of nineteen seventy two. A
lot of people in this Smuller family know Jim Kelly.
He's a Hall of Famer, Jerry Foust Hall of Famer
who's he was more than an iconic voice of the
Cincinnati Bearcats, him and Dan Horde. He was a loving husband,
devoted father, grandfather, gifted musician, and a true gentleman whose
(07:18):
warmth and kindness touched everyone he met. And if you've
known Jim, you know that is spot on. His genuine spirit, spirit, talent,
and friendship will be dearly missed by the entire Molar
community and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Continued,
If you could to pray for Jim, his family, his
(07:41):
grandkids who are here at Molar as well during this
difficult time. He obviously died by cancer, and I'll tell
you it's scary. I mean he was. It went fast,
and you know that cancer is something that you never know,
(08:02):
you just never know, and it came on fast. Gm.
In fact, Jim a couple of weeks ago tried to
do the UC game down at Nippert Stadium with Dan
Dan Horde and pulled out last second. But he fought
to the very end. And our thoughts and prayers are
with the Kelly family and all those who loved him
as well. God rest his soul. I actually do have
(08:23):
if I can pull this up here, I do have
funeral arrangements to share in case folks have not seen that.
It looks like it'll be on Sunday, October nineteenth, from
three pm to six pm at my vote, I never
pronounced this, my hope funeral Rosenacher Funeral Home on West
Haven Grounds. So that'll be at on the West Haven
(08:44):
Grounds at the Mayoc Rosenacher Funeral Home. He will be
laid to rest after a massive Christian burial on Monday,
October twentieth at eleven am at Saint Savior that's Savior
Saint Savior in Deer Park and then laid to rest
at the rest Haven Cemetery. So again, thoughts in prayers
(09:07):
to Jim Kelly and his family do have some good news.
Married into mo That's what we call it, right when
a man of Mueller gets married to a young lady
outside the Moueller family. I think that's what happened with
our man of Mueller. William Spiegel class of twenty tied
the knot this weekend in Saint Henry, Ohio that's north
of here. Others repping in his wedding party, Michael Whitest
(09:31):
class of seventy two, Mike Mopper eighty, Nick Momper twenty,
Ian Hale class of twenty and Robert Spiegel class of
twenty twenty three is our good friend. Marty Brenneman and
Joe knuxall always used to say, ain't love grand. So
congratulations to William Spiegel. It's a big weekend this weekend.
It's the Big Bo Basketball half Court Shootout that's coming
(09:56):
up on Saturday, October eighteenth. You can enter your team
in to win a chance at twenty five hundred dollars
for the winning team. This is fun. I participated in fact,
we talked to Ck last week about it on the show. Basically,
you're just you get a bunch of guys or girls
or whatever, put them on a team, you shoot from
half court. There's a clock involved. They're gonna have putting
(10:16):
games as well, kind of a sidebar game, putting games.
They're gonna have music on. Carl convinced me that the
Notre Dame game would be televised as well. In the
gym A great It's a great night. If you're not
traveling up to Cleveland for the sant Ed's game. Check
it out. It's Saturday, October eighteenth. Do I have a

a team. You divide that over four to six players
per team. Doors open again at six The event begins

the original Montgomery and the winning team takes home twenty

you must be twenty one. Speaking of basketball, when we
come back from a break, we're gonna talk to some
senior men of Molar Basketball is just around the corner
and these guys are already working out getting ready to go.
And today they were doing yoga, so they are gonna
(11:21):
be ready, ready to rock and roll when they come

from w MOE Studios. We're talking a little basketball before
(12:50):
we went to a break, and now we're gonna talk
Big Mo basketball fresh out of what was it again?
You guys are doing yoga yelga class, Danny Kelly, how
often have you done yoga before?
Speaker 3 (13:01):
You got to bowler? Once or twice? Maybe that's about
it for football?
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Right? You did it for football cast? What about you? So?
Speaker 4 (13:08):
My mom actually used a teacha class. It's like kind
of like yoga, but it was like more like exercise.
So I feel like I've always been around it.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
But all right, I'm digging that. I'm digging what Danny said.
But Tyler not so not so says not so fast,
my friend, I bet you've never done it before.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
I've never done yoga before. It's a great experience. Though
it's definitely definitely helping out quite.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Tyler to explain what yoga is for the millions of
people out there listening. It may have no idea.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
Basically, we go in the gym, the whole team gets
out their mats and we just stretch for about thirty minutes.
Help loosen up the hips, help get our mobility, better,
our balance, and it's a little bit of strength.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
Being around high school dudes as long as I have
and knowing at least two of you cast not as
much yet, but two of you guys, there's probably a
little laughing echoes on too, correct, Am I right? Danny? Yes,
definitely a lot. All right, let's start off by asking
you guys a question. This weekend is the Big Move
basketball half court shootout. So I want to ask each
of you if you had to pick one guy, are
(14:07):
you guys familiar with it? Yeah? All right, so you're
familiar with if you had to pick one dude from
the coaching staff who you would hit your wagon too,
that you think could win you the twenty five hundred dollars,
jackpod Cass, You're like, no question, Oh, you you don't know.
I know. Yeah, I was gonna say, you look pretty
confident when I asked that you two did not. Cast
will start with you. Who are you hitching your wagon
(14:28):
too to make to win that twenty five hundred dollars.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
I'm definitely give it to Flip.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
That was gonna be my guest. But you know who
the best shooter is in school? I think Tim held Oh, really,
he's really good. If you haven't seen him in the
factory staff, he's really good. So you're going with Flip.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
Danny, I'll go with coach McKenzie.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
Coach mccab Oh, that's a good. That's a that's a
it's a low key favorite. I like that. A sleeper.
That's the word I was looking for. Cast.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
All right, Tyler, I'm taking coach Campbell. What coach Campbell,
the trick shot master?
Speaker 1 (14:57):
We're talking about the same Dave Dave Campbell?
Speaker 2 (14:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (14:59):
Really? All right? Now here's the question, a million dollar question.
Could c K even make it to the rim from
half court? Now? Keep in mind playing time might be
on the line. Here. Can can see you guys are
all laughing looking at each other like I'm not answering it.
All right, I'll make it easy could he make it?
Could he make a hit the rim from the three
point r? Yeah, you guys are answer that one. But
(15:21):
you work quick about half court though. I can give
him some time to stretch. He can drill it, that's right.
I don't like his chances, Fred Hesse, No, but Fred Hesse,
I heard conteutter free throwrow. I heard he's pretty good
from the free throw. All right, we'll start with you Tyler.
You guys are all three seniors Mowler basketball. You guys
are getting to the swing of things. How does the
schedule work out? What are you guys doing right now?
Speaker 2 (15:41):
So right now we're going six days a week doing
skills every other day, and then between that we're lifting
and playing open generally even playing Fairfield, Summit Lakota and
uh Wild Bang.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
So that's changed. So I know there's probably people out
there listening going they're doing what they're scrimmaging during the
summer at OHSA allows that now, right, Yeah, So, how
how advantageous has that been for you guys? It's been
It's been great.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
You know, like we play against each other every day,
but getting to play like some actual competition has been
really helpful this fall.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
Danny a lot of people talking about this more basketball
team being inexperienced this year. Obviously you three. Are there
any other seniors at Carson Lye? Carson, that's right, Carson
Brock and Rock Rock Rubert one of the best. All right,
so you're talking about five seniors? Is that average? What
the average senior? It's usually a little heavier.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
N it's a little heavier.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
So what do you say to the people, Danny, who
say this Moller basketball team doesn't have a lot of
experience in the versus? What do you say to them?
Speaker 3 (16:40):
I don't think that's true. I mean, you got to
come out and watch and see us play. We've been
working hard off fall, getting our offense and stuff down.
And look, we got a ton of young guys, but
they're very mature, talented kids and we'll be ready to
go once the season starts.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Okay, talk about the summer games, the scrimmages and Tyler
Mitch and who are some of the teams you guys
have competed against.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
So we're going against Fairfield Wyoming, some in as of.
Speaker 1 (17:00):
Recently and some it's got a good program. Someone does
have some good players, some good players. So what's what?
How what's a benefit from playing getting that competition in
the summer for you, guys, I feel.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Like getting competition from someone other than ourselves, like seeing
a different look. Like it's almost a lot adapt like
to other teams because we face different things when we
go against different like some and why I'm in a
Fairfield Like I feel like Fairfield's more like heavy on
defense and then like get up in your face, but
like other teams will be able to like run our
offense and get that stuff down first.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
All right, guys, I want to talk about I know
Ck listens to everything we do, so he's gonna hear this,
and this is an edict to him. Because we have
a lot of ideas for home games, specifically GCL South
home games. Rosie's kind of doing some fun stuff like that. Tyler,
I'll start with you, how important is it because we've
seen and not just it Moler. I think across the
(17:52):
city talking to some friends I have at other schools
where the student attendance has kind of gone down in
recent years. But I think we can do so about that.
I really do. I think we can make it a
fun experience for everybody where you're actually telling your dudes like, man,
I don't want to miss it. I was at that
game last Friday and it was crazy. How important is
that to you guys to have the guys, your classmates,
(18:13):
your brothers back you, Especially in those Marquee games.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
It's so important. I mean, like seeing everybody show up.
I mean you know when you walk into the pet
or you walk into AX and you see everybody lining
up the court, like it's a little intimidating, and definitely
having people there is definitely a good factor to like
have on your side.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Danny packed games at Mueller or moments you'll never forget,
and it helps you during the game. Like if you
got the whole crowd on your side, you feel like
you're going you need to perform to please the crowd.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Just backing off those two, like when we have the
crowd to our advantage, I feel like that could really
help a lot, especially student driven, Like if we have
some cheers going like during their fruit throws, mess them
up or something, I feel like that could be at
our advantage a lot.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
My favorite though, it was last year with Skittles. Oh yeah,
behind the free throw line. We won't go into detail,
but that was hilarious. Al right, guys, what is a
successful season for Moler basketball this year? Cancel will start
with you. What is a successful basketball season for Big Bo?
Speaker 4 (19:09):
I feel like a good season for us is going
to be like just finding each other. As like we
have a young team, as you said, like only five seniors.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
I feel like if we all just.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Come together and like like link together for the season
and just figure out what we're gonna do and just
be able to work together, that'd be a very big
big part of our season.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
I think you know, when you got a young team
like that, whatever sport is, football, basketball, base or whatever,
is finding those pieces of the puzzle and where they
mix and matches. And I think that's an advantage of
playing in the summer where you can start to do
that build those pieces. Although you got some guys that
are playing football, you got soccer guys as well. Same
thing question for you, Danny.
Speaker 3 (19:50):
Oh, we just really got to focus on the present
and win the day. And I feel like once those
days stuck on top of each other, you'll see us
playing real deep in March.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
I do have I'm gonna get to you and a say, Tyler,
but I do have a request. I don't think it's
gonna fly well because I love tradition. I love tradition.
I'm big. I mean, I was the alumni director at
Moueller for a while and I'm all about tradition. But
can we at least have a conversation about getting a
new walking song. You already talked about it good, So
I'm not I'm not all right? I ran its course,
(20:19):
it's awesome. Maybe we still play it in another part
of the game. Are they Are they open to that?
Speaker 3 (20:24):
Yes, we've already been talking about new songs to perfect.
Speaker 1 (20:28):
Great Mind stink alike, and so do ours, Tyler.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
I mean, obviously we're Moler, so we're always going for
that state championship, those GCL titles. I mean, that's gonna
be a big goal for us this year. Putting out
a pretty much new lineup this year. It's definitely gonna
be a big, big step that we're gonna need to
take as a team.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
GCL South Championship, State Championship. That is on the radar
Cash Danny Tyler on the Big Mo Podcast w m
OE and the Moler Broadcasting Network, Go now my stomach
second now Tyler.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
Jocelyn with the catch and the well got it stun Crusaders.
Speaker 1 (21:20):
Barnes goes back. He oh, yes, his sick off. Caleb
co halip Cole number nine. He goes back to pass,
he's under pressed. Oh they got him. So then I
think that's Christian Harris, your Mobler Crusader's head to Cleveland
to battle be Saint Edward. Eagles coverage begins at two
thirty on w mo OE and the Bowler Broadcasting Network.
(21:53):
Back in a Big More podcast. Want to thank the
boys for joining us from the basketball team cast and
Tyler and Danny from Ohler Basketball. There is some young
talent coming up, but also some great senior leadership as well,
and that could be the recipe for a lot of
wins this season. So it'll be interesting to watch these
(22:13):
boys develop. My prediction ala the offensive line for Moler football.
When when Michael Blum has a bunch of young guys,
they just get better throughout the year. And you see
that every two years, you see Michael. You know, next
year Michael's gonna have a veteran leaden team and then
the next year it's a bunch of young guys that
(22:35):
he's got to. You know, they hit some bumps, some peaks,
and valleys early on, then you start to see consistency.
I think that happens with this basketball team. Now. Granted,
the timing is great because then once you turn the
calendar to twenty twenty six, you start to get into
GCL South play. But you might see this team struggle
a little bit. I don't know. I'm not a basketball guy.
(22:57):
I have not been down to the gym. I have
not talked to any of the basketball coaches. That is
just my un expert is that a word, my lack
of experience, that's just my guy in the third row
of the bleacher's viewpoint. I think they're going to struggle
early on, some hit some bumps in the road, but
(23:17):
when they get going with the talent they have, with
the senior leaders that you just heard in that last segment,
Tyler Willem Brink, I know very well a great leader
in the school, Danny Kelly, a great leader in school.
I don't know cast as much, but he's involved with
the cavalry and and you know the football games and
the student leadership for that as well. Those guys are
(23:38):
going to lead, and you throw in you know, they're
obviously talented as well. And then you got some of
these young guys coming up into the program. I'm excited.
I'm not gonna throw out any names yet, but i
will tell you want to get to the court that
Carl Kramer built because it will be a fun team
to watch. You may see one or two dunks a quarter.
(24:02):
It's gonna be a fun team. That's gonna be a rap.
We want to thank everybody for tuning in. Hopefully the
boys out the freshmen right now out in Orgon, you
are having a fantastic retreat. Have been a part of
many of those and they are a great experience for
our men of Molar, kind of introducing them to that
Moeller brotherhood, the spirit of Molar. And as many of
(24:23):
you listening to this show right now already know how
special it is. And it gets started early with these guys,
and in a quick four years they will be seniors
and they'll be leading these freshmen, the next generation of
Men of Molar here at Big Moo. I want to
thank everybody for joining us. Joe Schreker, Executive producer back
at the iHeart Radio Studios, Remember Molar and Saint Edge.
(24:46):
This weekend Saturday afternoon pregame show, The Montgomery and countdown
to kickoff begins at two thirty. Kickoff at three o'clock
live from Cleveland, Ohio. The Molar Crusaders rank third in
the Ohio the Saint Ed's Eagles tenth. I mentioned it
in the pregame show this week at that kind of
(25:07):
an enigma to me. Sint Edge is seven and one.
Their only loss was against masal and Washington, another highly
ranked team, but yet they're tenth in the state. That
makes no sense to me. One hundred and sixty eighth
in the country. Not a lot of respect for the
Eagles of Saint Edg's, but I can tell you who does,
and that's Big Mo. They'll face again, face off Saturday,
(25:29):
kickoff at three o'clock in Cleveland. And the weather's not
looking the best. Some intermittent showers. If you're heading up there,
take an umbrella if you're permitted to have those in
the stadium. I do not know, but some off and
on showers, and then the temperature is going to drop
after that, So get to Spirit Shop, get all your
spirit wear down, or you can go online the Molar
