Speaker 1 (00:01):
WMOE and the MOLA Broadcasting that probably was that. The
Big Mo Podcast. The Big Mo Podcast is brought to
you by a Passman Electric and Revey Landscaping, and now
your hosts Andy Nagle and.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Big Mo Barrett. Here we go, rocket and roll in
another week here at Big Mo on the Big Mo
Podcast alongside my wingman, Indy Nagle. Andy, How you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
I'm great, big guy. How are you? Championship week.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
It's Championship week. It's a big week. I'm excited to
We're gonna have Dave Pranger on talking Moler cross country
here in a little bit. It's gonna be awesome. We
got Bryce Merritt calling in from the Michigan Insider to
talk about our own Jordan Marshall, who I'm told has
a good chance of perhaps starting on Saturday with an
injury to Justice. Haynes will talk about that, but I
(00:49):
want to ask you about that eighteen inning baseball game
involving your LA Dodgers in the Toronto Blue Jays. I
couldn't believe the next morning, which was yesterday morning, when
I woke up and I saw a tweet from you
at three thirty in the morning. I said, I knew
he was a baseball guy, but now he's also in scene.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
You stayed up for that I did, and not having
any I don't care who wins either way. I'm a
baseball fan. For a Dodger, I don't well, Shohey fascinates me.
The guy is just an unbelievable freak. They were talking
last night. You get the loss last night, though he did.
But this is his fifth year of pitching. You know,
(01:31):
everybody says, el Babe Ruth with a pitcher, Babe Ruth
didn't pitch five years, and he didn't throw ninety nine
to one hundred miles an hour.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
And how did how fast did baberyth throw?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
I don't know, dude, But I'm not a George Springer fan.
So you know, everybody roots against the Dodgers and the
Yankees because they pay so much money for these But
I just I just loved the game of baseball. There
was so much intriguing at eighteen inning game.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
And before you get into that, it'd have speed guns
back then when Baber's but they suspected to be eighty
to eighty five miles every hour. I think I could
hit that. You could hit that hit that Ruth was nothing,
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
But yeah, I just I got locked in the game.
And then next thing you know, it's like, okay, I've
I've lasted this long. I gotta stay.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Thinking it's going to be over in the next this city,
this is the last tenth inning. You're probably like, you
know what, it's bedtime. But I can stay up for
this eleventh inning. There's no way you can go twelve.
I'm gonna stay up. Thirteen fourteen, fifteen six, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
About the seventeenth inning, my wife came down. She obviously
I wasn't it for seven hours at that boy, and
she comes down and she was like, what do you do?
First of all, she scared me and she was like
what are you doing. I'm like, the game's still on
and she was like what and she looked up. It
was the seventeenth inning. So she stayed to watch the end,
which the next inning was to walk off by Freddy Freeman.
(02:54):
And I'm like, man, if you're that lucky, why didn't
you come down two hours ago? And we could have
ended it then.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
But just a great game, and we all hear at
work to pay for your lack of sleeping.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Next, I tell you what it was like after three
o'clock in the morning, And I'm like, wow, man, that
alarm clock.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
That that that game in and out of itself, not
the series, but just the game. You could you could
create a documentary.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
On it, really could. There was so much, so many
big plays, so so much intrigued. I go bases loaded
with the Blue Jays two outs and they bring in
Kershaw for one batter against Lucas, and you have I
think it was Lucas, and you have Vlad on deck,
which is a huge mismatch for Clayton Kershaw and against
(03:42):
vlad uh and he gets him to a three to
two count and throws a ball that's damn near on
the ground, gets him to roll over out and and
Kershaw gets out of the inning. And I mean, Barrett,
they were warming up Yama Moto, their translator came down
with Dave Robertson and said, he's good.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
He pitched the night before, he pitched in Game.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Two and through a complete game, and they were going
to run him out in the nineteenth. It's just crazy to.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Stuff and we and you and I talked off the
air the implications that his for the rest of the series.
In terms of a bullpen perspective.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
And John Schmoltz, he's just an unbelievable guy when it
comes to breaking down the game of baseball. Just listening
to his analysis is awesome. And he kept saying last night,
it doesn't matter that show Hay didn't pitch the night before,
but he was on base nine times in that eighteen
inning game and he was the starting pitcher. And according
(04:39):
to Schmoltz and doing the interviews, I guess Shoe Hate
loves his sleep. He's got to get X amount of
a ridiculous amount of sleep. And it show it affected
him a little. I mean, he's still running up there
in ninety eight, ninety nine, but he was up in
the zone and they hit him. You know, he still
had a bunch of strikeouts. But that's got to take
a lot out of all the play, dude.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
I mean, and that's from a physical not to mention
the psychological part of that. Good stuff, awesome stuff. It'll
be fun series even at two and two now Blue
Jays with a six to two winner last night. I
don't know why we're talking. Major shout David Bell that
I was going to say, I don't why we're talking
about the world too, but we do have a connection.
David Bell, the vice president of operations for the Toronto
(05:22):
Blue Jays. What do you think he's thinking now? How
we looking Cincinnati Redmen, And we've tried to get him
on but he is a very humble, quiet shy guy
now although he does not like to do interviews, but
very gracious and very appreciated the offer, which is funny
because his quiet, shy behind the scenes led Major League
(05:44):
Baseball in ejections, which is awesome. I mean, that's but
that's our guy, man, I mean, just he's one of
those guys you just don't want to make him angry.
He's just super dude. Congratulations of David Bell, the entire
Bell family. Awesome, awesome, awesome. All right for me to
make angry some Ohio State fans because we have Bryce Merritch,
(06:05):
who's with the Michigan Insider Reporter with them also Yahoo's
Sports twenty four to seven sports. He's going to join
us talking to little Michigan football. And obviously we only
talk Michigan football because our own Jordan Marshall, eighth in
the Big Ten and rushing as a backup to what
many consider to be the Heisman Trophy candidate and the
(06:25):
likes of Justice Haynes, who I think maybe out this Saturday.
I will be there. I'm excited about it. I hope
we're going to talk a little Michigan football j Marsh
and then Dave Pranger going to join the show to
talk about this cross country team that for the first
time in twenty years, twenty plus years, they're heading the
state on Saturday. That's big time man, he said. We're
(06:46):
going to talk to Dave Pranger as well. It's the
Big Mo Podcast. He's Andy Nagle. I'm Big Mo, Barrett.

the Big MO Podcast. W MOOE and the Moler Broadcasting
(08:12):
Network back on the Big MO Podcast, and I'm excited
to talk a little Michigan football today. I know there's
Ohio State fans out there that aren't going to be happy,
but we have a vested interest in our own man
of moeller, Jordan Marshall. So I reached out to my
guy Bryce. Now, Bryce Merrick, Did I pronounce it right? Bryce? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Marriage?
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Marriage? Okay, Bryce marriage. He's a Michigan football basketball beat
reporter for The Michigan Insider, two four seven Sports and
CBS Sports. Bryce, thank you so much for taking some
time to talk as an Eastern Michigan guy. You are
talking to little Michigan Wolverine today. Thanks for coming on
the Big Mo Podcast.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
Absolutely appreciate you guys having me.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Well, Bryce, obviously we want to talk about, you know,
our Jordan Marshall, who's up there in ann Arbor right now.
But first overall, this Michigan football team coming into this
game against Purdue on Saturday, excited that I will be there,
pumped about that. They're six and two on the year,
four and one in the conference. My question to you
is this, how good are they? We know we have
(09:20):
to we think we have to have to win out
to be in that twelve team college football playoff, But
holistically overarching, I have a lot of opinions myself, but
I want to ask you. You're on the you're on
the beaten trail every day. How good is this Michigan
football team.
Speaker 4 (09:40):
I think what the record says, they are six to two,
you know, if they've had some kind of hurdles along
the way with the USC game, Oklahoma game. And I
think the biggest thing too that's really tough to judge
with this team that they are one of the youngest
teams in the nation. A lot of the contributors on
this squad are underclassmen, so they're playing major roles and
(10:03):
you're seeing kind of different experiences sometimes on the road
compared to at home. You sold out the Washington game
where they look like a completely different team, and then,
like I said, they traveled on the West Coast USC
and they struggled, right. So I think this team has
the potential to be a playoff team, but they have
(10:25):
to have some guys step up and kind of grow up,
and that's gonna be the main, you know, calling card
is the next few weeks to see if they can
make those steps needed to really be prepared and face
a team like Ohouse Dad at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I think when you when you talk about a young
football team, you're going to get inconsistencies. There's no doubt
about that. You talk about a guy like Bryce Underwood,
who has all the talents on the under the Moon
and I think he will be a fantastic quarterback. But
with a young guy, people seem to forget. They look
how big he is and how mature he he is
out on that football field, they forget he's just a freshman.
(11:03):
So you're going to have, in my opinion, the ebbs
and flows of a freshman and a very important role
on your football team. Have you been impressed with what
you've seen the tools that Bryce Underwood.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
Has, absolutely, You know, people what they don't realize is
he turned eighteen back in August, so he's actually young
for his class in general, and you just don't see
kind of what he's doing on the football field. He
does have those NFL traits that you see, the measureables,
the size, you know, the arm, talent, everything you want
(11:36):
to see. But I think it's now the next step
of his progress is everything up top of the mental
side of the game, reading coverages, having guys. Essentially, this
is a faster game, right coming from the high school
level up to the college level and kind of being
thrown against guys where he's competing with Like said, he's
(11:58):
an eighteen year old. These guys are now twenty two,
twenty three, twenty four, so it's a big adjustment for him.
But early signs seems very good and he's definitely making
strides as well.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
All right, so we're gonna the biggest saga on social
media right now. You know what it is. It's will
the Heisman Trophy candidate, Justice Haynes play on Saturday. My
gut instinct is no, you got Purdue on Saturday, then
you got a bye week, a great opportunity to get arrested,
which would play well into our guys hands getting some
(12:30):
more reps. But are you hearing anything on the street
with Justice Haynes that you can share.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
I do know he's been battling some injuries some along
the way. I know you got her in the USC
game and then coming out of the Michigan State game
he had some mix and prusis. I don't know if
he's going to be one hund percent and actually go.
But I think Michigan has the leeway to not, you know,
push the bun and force him playing this week, just
(12:59):
because they do have a guy like Jordan Marshall who
is more than capable of filming the raw actually doing
the job and some might even save him better.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
Justice Haynes Heisman Trophy candidate leads the Big Ten in
rushing one hundred and twenty one lugs eight hundred and
fifty seven yards, ten touchdowns. But j Marsh, even as
a backup, he's eighth in rushing in the Big ten
ninety nine carries. You got Justice at one hundred and
twenty one, Jordan at ninety nine, five hundred and forty
(13:28):
four yards, five touchdowns, five and a half a lug.
Jordan is who we've seen here at Mohler for four years.
As Jordan is just Jordan. He's a workhorse like all
good backs, and I think you could say this about
justin they get better as the game gets longer. You've
seen what Jordan's done in the two games he started
(13:50):
in that Reloquest Bowl last year, and of course I
think it was last week where he gets a bulk
of the rushes. He gets better as the game goes
longer and gets wrong and punishes that defense. What are
your first impressions this season of J Marsh?
Speaker 4 (14:07):
To be honest, not actually shocked. I remember when and
I also cover recruiting, so I remember I saw him
in high school play against Ben Davis in the very
first carry. I think it was senior year with the
home game for you guys, he took his seventy five
yards of the house. So he's got the potential, just
like Justice Haynes shows to take one and house it.
But I think the thing that really resonates with Michigan
(14:29):
fans he and Trone is they played this smash mouth
style football and Justice, like you said, it's like almost
like a battering ram. Right. He can hit you with
a three yard game, a two yard game, a three
yard game, a five yard game, and then pop one
like he did against Michigan State. So he's literally the
ultimate team player. I know, he's only in his second
(14:50):
year at Michigan, he's very highly you know, regarded among
the guys in the locker room. They look up to him,
even though he's an underclassman. He's that well, there's just
a lot about his game and just him on and
off the field up that I think really resonates with
the team gospel fan base, and when you're looking at
(15:10):
the face of Michigan football, I think he's gonna be
the guy you look at in the next year too.
And who said, this is what we want our program
to look like.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
What's your prediction? Amen to that? By the way, I mean,
that's that's not surprising to us. I mean there was
way he was raised with amy, his mom, and certainly
I think More probably had a little part of that too,
just raising and I and I and I noticed the
interview with him when they lost to USC, the way
he presented himself in front of the camera. I told him,
I said, man, that's that's That's what people remember most
(15:42):
is you know, the true testa character when you're down.
And I thought he handled that with grace and with class,
and that just speaks to the man he is. But
let's talk about Mischian. What's your prediction obviously perdue Saturday.
I like their chances against Purdue. Can never take anybody
for granted, it's college football, it's a big ten. But
looking forward, the big question how does this team do
(16:03):
at home at the big House against the buck Eyes.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
That's gonna be tough. You know, I think right now
you would normally say you'd give that edge to Ohio State.
Right They don't seem to have any flaws. They've been
in kind of cruise control this whole season, kind of coasting.
They haven't really even had games that have been really tight,
whereas Michigan has stumbled along the way. But as we've
(16:30):
seen in recent years this rivalry. You know, the records
kind of do go out the book and it's just
one of those things where anything can happen. Guys happen
off day and sometimes the ball falls, you know, and
the luck for you. So I just I think it's
tough to say. But if I had a pick today,
(16:51):
what would happen, I'd probably say a house. They wins
by I'd say probably by ten. But you know.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Last season I had Ohio State by three touchdowns. Last
year we saw what happened. And it's at the big
It's not easy to play at the big house.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
No, you never know, see of elements, right, that's the
other thing with the team always in late November. If
elements are bad, that favors usually Michigan that likes to
do that ground and pound type of game. And you
have a back like Jorne Marshall who that suits him perfectly, right,
and they're going to arrive, like you said, workhorse and
(17:30):
see where he takes him. If that's the case, you know,
I think that's big. And here's the other thing with him,
he understands the rivalry being mister Ohio, being the state.
This is a game that's very important to him. And
I know over the years I've talked to Ohio State
writers and they've said, well, you know that we have
a lot of guys on the team, but they're not
from Ohio, so they don't really understand this rivalry and like,
(17:52):
what are you know? Pertains and Jordan gets it right
being the state growing up. I remember when I talked
to him in their treaming Prousts, he flat out told me,
he said, I have a lot of Ohio State friends
and when I made that decision to go to Michigan,
that was a big deal. I heard it from friends, family,
(18:12):
outsiders around the community. But at the end of the day,
he said, more supported me, that backed me up on
that decision. I've been at the end of the day,
he's really happy. Where is that. He's the guy that,
like I said, he's going to be the face of
the program sooner than later for sure.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
That's awesome. And there's two guys that are have Ohio
State circuit on their calendar. The whole team does, but
a guy I named of Tony Alford and Jordan Marshall too.
Ohio State got connections. Guys that are going to really
want that game. Bryce Marriage, thank you so much for
appearing on the Big MO Podcast. I really appreciate it.
Maybe maybe we'll cross paths over the Big House on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
Absolutely appreciate you having me on.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
That's Brice Marriage with the Michigan Football Insider. Also want
to thank him for appearing also two four seven Sports,
CBS Sports as well. That's Bryce Marriage on the Big
MO Podcast. When we come back, more in depth team

(20:23):

and excited to have a head cross country coach of
(20:47):
Moeller High schooling nags. This is a big time because
they're doing something this weekend that hasn't been done for
twenty plus years.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
You know, I have said this from the beginning. You know,
we love our head coach, Dave Pranger, and I have
a soft spot for cross country. My youngest son ran
for that other school on the west side of town,
but I became a cross country parent and it's a
fascinating sport. It's a fascinating spectator sport. Like I said,
(21:16):
I fell in love with it and I knew in
talking to Todave and obviously Frank crew So that they
had a potential to have a special class here. And
I've said it in my alumni newsletters all year. Watch
out for this team. They're going to do great things
and it's come to fruition. We're heading state coach.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Let's bring them on now. Dave Pranger, first and foremost,
congratulations and all the success. Thank you.
Speaker 6 (21:38):
Great to be here today.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
Thank you. Twenty plus years it's been it's.
Speaker 6 (21:41):
Been in two thousand and two since the last Moeller
team that in fact, we're the third in history ninety nine,
two thousand and two and now here in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
Now, we're not going to put pressure. You don't know
all the guys that were on that team, but you
do know some of the guys that were on that
team the last time you guys went to State. Give
me a shout out.
Speaker 6 (21:58):
Well, it just so happened that I pulled up the list.
I have all seven names. Run down the list. Luke
Berline who finished first, Sam Sharp, Pat Whitty, Adam Flagg,
Matt Hook, Rad Babiak, and Danny Frost.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Do those guys know the guys that your runners? Now
we'll give him a shout out here in a minute,
But do they know just the fact that they are
the first one in over twenty years? Oh yeah, to
make it the state? Do they know that? Absolutely? They
know that what's the reaction, what's going through their minds
right now?
Speaker 6 (22:29):
You know, we haven't talked about it a lot, but
you know, if you can read body language, you know
they're clearly excited and happy about that. They're smiling a lot.
They're getting a lot of you know, praise and accolades
from their peers in the school. So you know, I
think they recognize the accomplishment that they've made.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
What's been this secret sauce because you go twenty years?
I know, you guys some good dudes. I personally, I'm
going to answer my own question. I think it's the
process that you guys have built and obviously adding Frank
on and his history what he's done within the cost
Crunchy program too, with your leadership and what you've done,
combined with Frank, and then you throw in you throw
(23:08):
in some kids that are extremely talented. But is there
another piece of this? Is there anything that you guys
have done differently that to take you to this next level?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
Not so much, I would I mean, more than anything.
I'd say it's just a consistency, you know, the guys
just being here every day, willing to do the work
and recognizing that you know, when actually the seniors, when
they were freshmen, when they came in, I think they
realized that they were a talented group and that they
kept at it and were diligent about the work they
(23:40):
did through the next four years, that they could potentially
reach this goal. And so it's really a credit to
their class and what they've been able to put forth
to make this happen.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
And it's the work I think, Andy Nagel that happens
when they're freshmen. Sophomores and juniors are underclassmen looking at
those classes that have graduated and seen the work that
they put into it to know what that expectation is right.
Speaker 6 (24:05):
Right and now, and of course these seniors have set
the bar. We have a you know for the underclassmen
and the guys that that will follow. They they know
what the work has been put in, they know what
it takes to get to that level. And of our
top seven, three of them are sophomores, right, so, so
you know, these guys understand what it's going to take
(24:28):
to get back there and hopefully we can we can
bring we'll have to bring four more guys along with them.
Speaker 2 (24:35):
We'll talk about those those seven as you mentioned, but
let's give a shout to the seniors. Jake Allen, senior
on this cross country team, Kyle Borgamecki, a senior. I
want to give us, certainly a shout to all the seniors.
Brock Krubert Love, Brock Keegan Handtack. You've got Max Herzog
as well, Neive Kumar Kumar Kumar Kumar Kumar, got Zachary
(24:56):
Laser as well. And want to make sure I'm not
missing anybody. I know I missed a up. John Ryan,
you have Steve Shoote, Sam Sharpshire. You also have Duncan
Shirley Black Guy's hilarious. You got Owen Speed, Jacob Stables.
You have a good Preston Wesley as well, Nick Wilson
(25:16):
and Luke Zelinsky. You have a good cradle, good stable
of seniors. From a leadership standpoint.
Speaker 6 (25:21):
Yes, And in fact, I will tell you this is
probably the first year and maybe twenty plus years that
we've had five captains, just because you know, first off,
the seniors are what twenty plus strong, just done numbers,
and then you know we had five guys that have
emerged as captains, and with the thought process is that
(25:43):
we want to do something different this year. We want
to we want to raise the bar and collectively they
have done that and so it can be more proud
of the leadership of that group.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Coach, and I think you have you know talking you know,
we always talk about that GCL in that that school
on North Bend is kind of being that standard bearer
when it comes to cross country. But but looking at
the g CL Championships, I mean, we we took two, two, four,
and five in the top ten. Uh, came in second
to say X, but but it was a closer margin.
I mean, we're closing that gap.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
We are closing the gap. And you know, interesting you
should say that first off, for the g CL meat itself,
it was our lowest point total and the closest margin
of you know, runner up. I guess you could say
twelve points, yeah to to victory that uh, you know
that we've had in GCL history at least from Moler.
And then you know, if you want to cheat a
(26:36):
little bit, and we did that a little bit. We
took some liberties. But if you if you were.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Didn't cheat in the race there in the race, he's
not saying that.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
What we did was we pulled out the results from
the regional meet. We pulled out Elder, we pulled out X,
and we pulled out Obviously US LESAL didn't run in
our race because they're in a lower division. But if
you know, Lesal didn't really have much of a factor
into this year's GCL results as it was, so we
(27:09):
just kind of scored using the times from that regional race.
We just kind of scored it as like a tri
meat as a as A as a GCL R, and
the results were fascinating. We ended up tying X.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
Wow, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Based off of the yes, based off.
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Of those regional results, we ended up tying X thirty
to thirty. Now, the tiebreaker is the six man, and
they did have the higher place than six man, so
you know, when it comes to the actual you know
they would have won in that scenario. But in two
weeks time, we were able to close that gap basically
from twelve all the way down to basically zero. That's awesome,
(27:48):
you know, so we were You know, that just tells you,
It gives you an example of how well those guys
ran on Saturday, in particular that sophomore group, because it
really hinges on those three soft and if they don't.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Do what they did.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
Uh, you know, we're not making it.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
The state coach talking about state, I know we've moved
the location from Siota Downs, which they used to have
it there correct where you had a huge crowd.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
Yeah, yeah, Cioto Downs. Man, I can't remember the last
time the state championship was there. I think it was
maybe eighth nine content. So it's been from there, it
moved to National Trails, and then National Trails, it moved
to the to the O Beets and O Beets is
I think it's been there, what's four or five years now?
Speaker 3 (28:32):
Tell us about Obett's what's what kind of course is this?
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Is this layout? Well?
Speaker 6 (28:37):
O Beets is like an athletic facility for starters. They
have like their their I guess signature venue is the stadium.
It has a ten thousand seat grand stand. It actually
is on my understanding, there used to be a racetrack
and Columbus a short racetrack like a short oval. Well
they have converted. They basically tore that racetrack out and
(28:59):
that property, that racetrack property is what is the fortress
Obez now so and they have obviously property around or
outside the stadium. So the course itself will start outside
the stadium. They'll run you through the stadium. They'll run
you back out, run you through, run you back out,
run you through. But then the finish line is then
on the field in front of the Grand State.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
I got a question about that. When when you're playing football,
you're going to have a football field, whether it's Mount
Saint Joe, whether it's West Claremont or whatever, it's one
hundred yards long. It's the same football field, different surroundings,
but the same football field. Cross country is different. Every
course is different. Yes, these kids have they run at
this course before? If they haven't. For those that haven't,
(29:41):
how challenging is that to run at a mean that
new venue that you've never ran out before.
Speaker 6 (29:48):
Well, true, none of these kids have run there before.
Well take that back, some of the they do do
the Junior High State meet there, and two of our
guys have run in the Junior High State meet when
they were when they were in eighth grade. But the
state will give us a chance to go up on
Friday to preview the course. So we're going to drive
up on Friday. These guys will be able to walk
and jog the course and at least kind of preview
(30:10):
it prior to Saturday's race, you know, so they'll get
an opportunity at least to see it and kind of
kind of be on it and experience that a little bit.
But you know, but even if they hadn't done that,
you know, there's course maps, there's other visuals they have.
They have drone footage of the course. I mean, so
(30:30):
there's all sorts of data out there and information out
there that they could absorb to kind of get a good,
good idea what that course is like.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
And you'd turn left instead of turn right. You definitely
would need to do it.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
Walk when he's talking about cheating, i'd freet them on
the other side.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
And where is this track, you say, Orbits or Fortress?
Speaker 6 (30:48):
Obits is a suburb of Columbus on the southwest side
inside the two seventy loop.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
I asked, because I'm looking at the forecast, because this
time of year, yes, you never know if you're gonna
get rain that right now it's looking like fifty four
and Sonny, now, we got heavy rainfalling earlier in the week, right,
so I'm not sure if that'll play an impact. But
Saturday itself, fifty four and partly sunny. You should be
good from a roo perfect.
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Yeah, it sounds like ideal weather. I didn't actually look
at the forecast.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
That's what I'm here, That's what I'm here for.
Speaker 6 (31:19):
I appreciate Ted.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
I'm the w mo OE meteorologist.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
We actually run at four to ten PM, so I
don't know if there's going to be a variable in
the weather from the morning to the afternoon. I'm sure
it's going to be a lot cooler, a lot colder,
I should say, in the morning.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
But I'm glad you asked. It'll be fifty two fifty four,
Very good, right then? But correct, correct, h you got
to be excited in some of the let's talk about
the top seven before we head to a break here.
You got some of the guys that are really the horses,
and I love how you know, we talked about it
at lunch the other day. You know, you're one, two
(31:54):
and three's are gonna do one, two and three sort
of times and you can just roll that out. It
is key to have that five, six and seven guys,
the guys anchoring on the back end, those are the
guys that really will dictate do you finish in the
top ten in the state, which I know as a goal.
Speaker 6 (32:10):
Years absolutely and you know, I guess one could argue,
you know, all the different sports and how important each
member of the team is, but when you think about
cross country, it truly is the epitome of a team
sport from the top five standpoint that you know, take basketball,
for example, if one guy in your starting rotation may
(32:32):
be having a slightly bad day, for one, you can
rotate them out, you can tie them out and substitute
people in. But for another, if you have that stud
or if you have that one or two guys on
your team, they can really help carry your team. And
cross country, you know, one or two studs on your team,
if four, five, and six aren't there, you know, or three,
four and five I guess in this case, then you
(32:54):
know it's really going to have an impact on that
overall score.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
So talk about some of those guys that are going
to be in that what you call top seven.
Speaker 6 (33:03):
Well, so we'll start what you mentioned the three horses,
I mean, so yeah, I mean, you know, we had
the three seniors which would be pressed in Brock and Owen.
Those guys have been consistently the top three all year
and for most of the meets that they've been, they've
they've they've finished and maybe in the top ten or
top fifteen in every race, and in some cases even better.
Brock was the Ross Invitational champion as an example, you know,
(33:26):
he was runner up at GCL. But four five and
four five and six really fall to those sophomores and
they've they've they really came through for US at GCL
and obviously came through even bigger for US at Regionals.
And that's Paul Eckstein, Hayden Sorg and Luke Long and
(33:47):
so really a shout out to those three and we
recognize them, especially at Monday on practice to say, hey,
you know, you guys, you're the reason. You know, we
couldn't be here at least collectively as a team without
you three. And then you know, and then rounding out
number seven is Duncan. And not to say that Duncan
doesn't play an important role in that he does, but
(34:09):
you know, he he just had a little bit of
an off day on Saturday and hopefully he rallies this
coming weekend.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
It's not like baseball with the Dodgers, where you can
have otana, you get like seven straight hits and four
home runs and single handedly can win it against the
Blue Jays. You need all seven guys executing at a
high level if you want to entertain any thought of
finishing in that time.
Speaker 6 (34:29):
Yeah, and absolutely, and and not to and not to
to to dog on the school up north a little bit.
But you know, their number one runner was the regional champion,
dom alis He finished first place. They didn't have anybody
then in the top twenty eight after that, in other words,
what they call the top twenty your finalist or your medalist.
(34:51):
We had three, they didn't they had won, and consequently
they finished just a place ahead of us were we
were sixth place and they were fifth. So even having
that one strong horse and they do dom is Uh
is one of the favorite to win the state champion.
As an individual, he alone can't carry the team if
he doesn't have the other guys behind him doing their role.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
What I'm hearing you say is the future looks bright
for Mollar cross country.
Speaker 6 (35:17):
Yes, yes, it does, especially again with with the sophomore
class we have. We have some emerging juniors in this group,
and one of them was injured unfortunately for a good
chunk of the season. We hope that he comes back
strong and healthy this coming track season. But we have
a good group of sophomores that uh that the two
(35:40):
the next two years look very promising and hopefully uh
you know, with Sunday's open house coming, we have some
some some emerging freshmen or our upcoming eighth graders freshman
uh that that see a spark and uh and want
to be a part of this come next year.
Speaker 3 (35:56):
Well, and I think that that's Moller High School. And
when when you know you see it in all the sports,
you really don't when you're at the top of your game. Man,
you're going to get those kids. And that's the exciting
thing is is cross country is back here at Molar.
It is very strong, and you're going to get that
interest from kids that are going to take off whether
(36:18):
they're hey, they might be a spring uh track athlete,
but you know, bring them across country and run and
you just never know what happened.
Speaker 6 (36:25):
Absolutely, and that's that's what we're hoping for. You know,
we'll be able to meet and greet some of them
on Sunday and get them excited about uh, you know
about Molar cross country and the potential that we have
right now and that they can they can be a
part of this future success.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
And did you know Dave was a member of the
D team wearing that shirt there. It looks good.
Speaker 3 (36:44):
He was welcoming everybody.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
He's the longest D Team member in molar history. Development.
It's one of those if it's free, it's fair, that's right,
and we know definitely one of those. Congratulations to you
your entire team on all the success. The boys will
be running starting gun at four to ten on Saturday
at Fortress o Beets and Obett's, Ohio. It says here
you can follow all the information pillar to posts on
(37:07):
Let's go big mo dot com. Dave, best of luck.
Speaker 6 (37:11):
Thank you very much, guys.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Televisor stream it is well in.
Speaker 6 (37:16):
The past it has been streamed. I think it might
require like a pay per view or a subscription to
watch it.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
And don't quope on that there.
Speaker 6 (37:27):
But yes, I mean, I'll tell you what if you've
never experienced Across country meet. Obviously we promote the primetime
because we think we do it very well here, but
the state meet is a whole different scenario. You know,
it's it's it's obviously what everybody in the season works
for But you have the best of the best, and
they'll draw consistently from year to year, probably eight to
(37:51):
ten thousand spectators to that to that venue. Now they're
not necessarily all there at once, but across all four divisions,
since we're at four divisions this year, but they'll there'll
be a lot of people there and the the the excitement,
the energy, you know, just uh, you know, the feeling
that you get when you're when you're among that amongst
(38:12):
that group. I mean, it's pageantry, yes, you know you
you you know you've arrived. It's it's it's definitely a
championship atmosphere. And and uh and certainly our guys would
love the support. And you know, they they hear everybody,
you know, when you're when they're running along and you guys,
you know they're they're alongside, sharing, you know, they they
hear that. They feed off of that energy and and
(38:33):
uh and I know they want to represent the school
well and and having your support will will go a
long way for that.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
That's awesome. Dave Pranger, hey cross country coach at Moulor
High School. Get the Boys in Action or tend starting
good portress Ovitz on Saturday and again you can go
to Let's Go Big Mow and follow pillar to post
for Dave Pranger. Andy Nagel will be back in just

(39:44):
dot org. It's not gonna be a podcast. And want
to thank Bryce marriage of course and Dave Pranger for
(40:07):
appearing on the b MP and man, it's so cool
those cross country guys, and I like talking about them
because they don't get a lot of love throughout the year.
We were at the Primetime earlier in the year doing
a little story on them. I think we did have
them middle of the year. We had somebody on I
can't remember off the top of my head. But those
guys deserve all the love in the world for the
(40:28):
success they've had this season. And win or lose or
whatever happens on Saturday, what an incredible run Molar Cross
Countries had under Day's leadership.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
It's a tough sport. I mean, it's it's you know whatever,
it is, five k or three plus whatever miles and
you're running in regular terrain. And I know they kind
of work on these courses, but you never know. You
get bumped out to the outside, you step in a hole,
twist and ankle. I mean, that's stuff that I think
of as an old gun, right right, right, But these
kids are a flat out on a dead spirit.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
Some of the stories of win. There's a muddy course,
especially at the prime Time several years ago, they had
to go after the race around the track and pick
up shoes. Kids were losing shoes in the mud and
they just they ran in bare feet or socks or whatever.
Then they lost their socks. It looked like a war
zone of shoes and socks. I mean, these kids are
incredible athletes and just k kudos Amlar Soccer two a
(41:24):
difficult way to lose. Any time you're not a state champion.
There's always a tough loss. There's only one team that
can do it. But the senior leadership in that soccer
program and some great senior leaders. Kudos to them on
a great run. Of course, I think the big win
of the year was beating Stex that first time. They
tied them the second time that'll be I'm sure we're
(41:45):
for those guys a monumentous occasion in their memory of
the season. But kudos to the entire soccer program.
Speaker 3 (41:53):
Yeah, GCL champs again, third year in a row, six
times or six time champ out of the last ten years.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
So I don't think they've lost to Saint X in
like over a thousand days something. It's like the Michigan
Ohio Countdown.
Speaker 3 (42:05):
It's it's good and those those programmed and and you
talked about the cross country, and you made a great
point with Dave Prymer not to discount the soccer take
that you just had. But this rain and this weather
and you talked about the mud that could affect man
on Saturday. You know it's not called for rain on Saturday.
But the rain that we're getting now and tomorrow or
(42:27):
last night and today, uh and maybe tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
That it could affect. So you just never know.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
I thought it was really cool that Dave when they
broke down the regional that were right there neck and
neck with Saint accent.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
I think that is just awesome. That's a closing the gap.
It won't be long. And you look good at tie today.
Little Mass Day. Look how about you you big Mass dated. Yeah,
I love Mass Day. All the guys. Everybody looks sharp.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
It was a it was a it was a great Mass,
good message. It was we celebrated our our feast of
all Saints, all Soul's days today to remember those loved,
the ones that have left this world. So we had
a great mask today and it was awesome.
Speaker 2 (43:05):
Well a little teas we also, I don't want to
say celebrate it, but we in the great work that
Companions on a Journey does. Here Shila Monofo, Pat Buckley
and their team working with our grief group here. Each
one of those guys brought a candle up at the
beginning beginning a mask to remember a loved one or
loved ones who's gone before us. That was a beautiful moment.
(43:28):
The teas is, I have a story coming up on Friday,
you I do. I DO celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary
of Companions on a Journey, So that will be coming
out on Friday.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
That's awesome for to that.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
It's a it's a lot of work that those people
put in and I'll do it for the you know,
for God and for our dear Lord, and and what
they do for our kids here is nothing short of remarkable.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
Yeah, we've talked about that in the past. We wish
like when we were in school we had a support
network like that, you know, and it's just it's great.
Speaker 2 (44:00):
To it's hard sick they have. I'm making this up
because I don't know the number off time I had,
like over thirty forty kids in that grief group. Yeah,
it's a it's a great, great platform for our guys
here at Big Mode. Nobody, as they'd like to say,
grieves alone.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Course should they so Hey, Big Day on Sunday don't
forget that one, and I'm not talking about them.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
Open house, baby, Yes, open house a great opportunity for
us to shine everything up and show what the remarkable
things are happening inside this building. The real learning, relational, experiential, experiential,
authentic learning, UH and more does it right.
Speaker 4 (44:38):
They do it.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
Like you said.
Speaker 3 (44:40):
We put a little spit shine on the outside thanks
to our friends at Reeve Landscaping. So school looks good
and I know the tour guides are all ready to
rock and roll and we can't wait to uh to
entertain those those young men in grade school that are
making that decision of where to go to high.
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Hopefully we will see men any of you on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
Don't be strangers.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
We'll be in it.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
I'll be in the gym, Big Mo Barre will be
up here in the studios High Time Live, w MO OE.
But I'll be in the gym anchoring the alumni table
if any alums come through. Stop buying, say hi.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
