Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ladies and gentlemen, Good afternoon. Welcome on the Culture News.
My name is David Sabibro, and I have the pleasure
to have today on iHeartRadio on the Culture News a
wonderful audience from Italy. His name is David d de Gregorio.
David de de Gregorio. He's going to talk to us
about what is the DDG project. He's going to tell

(00:24):
us about all of that. We are so glad to
have him today, all the way from Italy, Live from Italy. David,
d how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I'm okay, David, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:36):
I'm wonderful. Thank you so much for being with us today.
I really appreciate it. So would you be so kind
to introduce us and tell us who you are and
what have you done so far?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Of course, first of all, Daddy, let me tell you something.
The pronunciation of my name was amazing, because most of
the times in interviews and all these things, the pronunciation
is never the one that it's needed, and you just
pronounced David.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Nah. Thank you so much. I appreciate that. You know.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
What can I tell you? The DDG project was founded
by me in around two thousand and nine because it
was a moment in which I wanted to you know,
I wanted to make a step forward for my career
because I had like an Italian career, let's say, with festivals,
you know, when you win festivals and things. But then

(01:34):
in my mind and in my thoughts, I always had
the idea of being international, and at that time, the
idea was to use English because English, as you know,
of course, because we too are speaking in English, it's
like a tool, is the way to communicate with more people.
In that case, I was using English, but sometimes I

(01:56):
was using words that were like a known language because
I was interested, you know, by the sound of the words,
and even as a tool, because sometimes even a sound
can be international with no boundary, so you can communicate
with people all around the world without saying a proper word,
like in English, like a sound. So the single that

(02:20):
I was publishing in twenty ten, like the chorus was
like down dig dig dig doon, because it was the
idea of like connecting all the people around the world
with like a sound that was music. Because at the
end of the day, that's what I make. I make music.
I write songs, and that's my you know, my aim
and my target in my life. And then the DDG

(02:42):
project became something bigger and bigger because I was collaborating with,
you know, with big people from United States, UK, all
around the world. From Puerto Rico, for example, Johanni Dalgo
is considered like the Maradona of Congas. And then Cora Koleman,
she's the drummer and she was a drummer of Prince,
and then she's been the drummer of like Beyonce and

(03:05):
Zukero our Zukero, the Italian singer. And then collaborating with
the producer of Rim and then you know, a lot
of stories. And then I was traveling around the world.
So I was moving to la and then Colombia and
then London and then Moscow and then back to Italy.
You know, the DDG project. I used to say that

(03:25):
it's my music box. It's like a box of vibes
where I don't want to be pigeon holed, how like
English people like to say pigeon holed because I don't
like to say or I don't like to make music
of one genre. I'm mixing vibes music, connecting people from
all around the world, and that's my you know, that's

(03:47):
my the only target I have.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Thank you so much for telling us all of that.
And of course you mentioned only you know, all the
biggest artists in the world, so no wonder you start
to sound like them, you know, but it's absolutely wonderful
what you're doing. And of course the Italians they have
a natural feeling for music for words. You know, it's

(04:11):
the it's the country of opera, let's not forget it. Yeah,
so tell us about your music, tell us about your
the new songs that you have now, you know.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Now, I was just you know, a few days ago,
I was releasing this EP that it's like the version
of let's say, half album, because before we used to
release albums, but now it's just the first part of
a big project that is basically divided in two chapters.

(04:44):
And in this case, we are promoting a song with
that I wrote and I sing along with Lee John
le John. It's just the voice, the legendary voice of
the imagination. And we've been for like twenty years, but
this is our first collaboration. And you know, I was

(05:05):
writing the song and then I just sent the MP
three to Lee and I said, what do you think
about this song? And it started saying, Wow, this is
a song where I want to be in. So the
collaboration started and the DDG project once again was doing
what you know, what I want to do. And VP
is something that is also connected with the with the

(05:27):
visual project that is something that I mean, I don't
want to say that was never seen before because it's
maybe pretentious, but I was making some videos. So the
visual also connected to these five songs is something really
new because it's divided in chapters. It's like a mini field.
So it's a story of the boxer. The protagonist is

(05:49):
a boxer that is basically fighting against himself, so against
his flows, against his problems, and at the end there
is a happy end because the video that basically is
the video of Sexy City Lights that is a song
with Lee John is like finishing with like a happy end.
So basically the guy the protagonists succeed and there is

(06:13):
also a very important social message inside because during the
development of this video, there are scenes that are inspired
by Regging Bulls Martin Scorsese, the movie with Robert de Niro,
and we were just quoting, you know, quoting the movie
because we were describing some scenes, some tough scenes because

(06:35):
basically the protagonists in this case me, I was fighting
with the wife because she was the angel of the
house and she was like trying to put up with
my fears, my frustrations. And then the messages stop domestic violence,
because that's another thing that we want to promote, because
it's time to be decent persons and to stop making

(06:59):
these stupid and silly and violent things. So basically, that's it.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
That's that's really beautiful. So what a instrument do you play?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
You know, when people say are you a musician? I
always say no, I'm not a musician, just because I've
lots of respect for people like dedicating their lives to instruments.
I'm more, let's say, a pre producer, producer, singer, songwriter,
because the thing is that I'm interested in writing songs,
so I want to control all the sounds and all

(07:35):
the instruments and all the arrangements. So you know, let's
say that I can touch the guitar, I can touch
the bass, I know what drums is doing, I know
what piano is doing. And it's like, you know, I'm
more like a creative with using basically tools to build
a song.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Well, that's exactly the definition of being a musician, I think,
but you in definitely a better way. So it's beautiful.
So before we start to say goodbye to each other,
what do you have that is next for you? What
are your next projects?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Well, in this case, we are really committed to this
song with Lee John, and so we are promoting these
in France, in Italy and in a few days in
the American market in the UK because we really think
that our project is amazing. And it's also the contrast
between two voices because my voice is more baritone and

(08:33):
his voice is I mean, he has a falsetto that
is just legendary. Plus he has an amazing voice. And
so now we are really focused on promoting these and
then the next step is going to be the second
chapter of the EP because basically the title of the
epi's notes, but notes is also tones, stone on set
and set on, So basically the second chapter is going

(08:57):
to be fired. So it's going to be four songs
and I think that like in two months maximum three months,
I'm going to release these and DP will become an album.
So let's focus now on Sexy City Lights with le
Jon and then you know, obviously I'm moving forward, and
I'm looking forward because I have also an album in

(09:18):
Neapolitan dialects, so you know, I'm making a lot of things, remixes, DJs,
you know, a lot of things.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
And you're doing wonderful in everything you do. This is
really so nice to have you today on the show.
We really appreciate being with you today. What is the
message you would like to say to our beautiful audience?

Speaker 2 (09:41):
First of all, thank you, thank you so much for
having me. First of all, and then you know, in
music with trust, that's the message in peace and music
with trust.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Wow, I really love that in music we trust that
that's excellent. I'm going to sell that from you, ladies
and gentleman. Thank you so much for being with us today.
This is David Sho.
