Thomas? Man doing well? Thedraft is over? The draft is over.
The draft is over, man,And uh, we build up of

(00:23):
this so so long and then it'sover in a couple of days. Man,
it's it's ober Man, right. But yeah, we're gonna talk about
Man. How's how's everything? Everything'sgoing well? Man, FAM's good and
I'm good good, good is good, no doubt, no doubt. Yeah,
man, thank you all for joining. Uh. You know you don't

(00:46):
want to find us on YouTube, comment, share, subscribe, Uh and
if you don't want to, youain't got to. Well, we appreciate
you all being here and now youcan find us all you want to listen
on on your favorite podcast platforms.Oh yeah, I won't be joining us

(01:07):
today, but we'll catch up withhim next week. But before we get
into the draft, man, Iwant to, uh something I really wanted
to talk about this. We reallywant to. I want to get your
opinion on it. Reggie Bush gothis husband back. Okay, you know
I thought that was pretty monumental too. What are your thoughts on the NA

(01:29):
gave him back his husband because ofthe uh you know, the changing landscape
now in college foot ball. SoI thought it was a good look.
What about you? Yeah, yeah, definitely long overdue. The kid earned
it on the field, I know. I mean everyone was getting money every
every everyone was getting money, SoI mean the kid earned it. Great,

(01:55):
great they gave it back. Itwas a great gesture. Yeah,
absolutely, man. And uh,you know they can only give all the
kids that got suspended and kicked outof school all this stuff back too,
if they only could. Yeah.Yeah, but good for Reggie bush Man.
It's long overdue. Yeah yeah,we uh, we're gonna jump right

(02:21):
into it man with the draft stuff. You know, we're gonna be on
here long. But I want totouch base since, uh, like you
said, it's over now. Sodudes like us, we're just looking forward
to the season and the next yeardraft. So first I won't ask you
any well there any I ain't gonnasay winners and losers because it's too you

(02:43):
know, we don't really know, you know, nobody knows for the next
two three years who the winners andthe losers are. But were there any
any picks that stood out for you. I'll go directly to one that I
know everybody's talking about the Michael Pennisyou on your pick to Atlanta. What
were your thoughts on that? Iwas I was shocked, you know,

(03:08):
the initial shock because I know theywere talking about past Rusher and you know,
things of that they making the teambetter right now. This is that
and the third but you know,we spoke about it. We spoke about
how, you know, what wethought about Michael Pennix and yeah, and
if and if you know people aresleeping on them, they're you know,
they're crazy, and you know Ireally thought that that the Giants would have

(03:30):
got them, you know. So, but I I mean, I love
the I love the pick. Youknow, they're insuring themselves and and go
back and they're talking about the kirkCousins. The kirk Cousins contract is really
really front loaded. It's like aone two year deal. And so I
I I love the draft pick.Yeah, I mean I get where the

(03:53):
concern is. I mean, whenyou've got that many holes on your roster,
obviously picking eights, you got plentyof the field, definitely, but
you know, kirk Cousins is nospring Chicken. Yeah, and he's coming
off a major injury. And likeyou said, that contract is front loaded,
so you know they'll be able toget out of it. They're not

(04:15):
asking Pennix to come in immediately inplay, all right, And I get
that he's you know, he's alreadyyou'll be he'll be a twenty five year
old rookie. But I think saidfour twenty four. But either way,
if if he gives you a decadeof elite quarterback player, who cares how

(04:36):
he was when he started, right? You know? And as a Steelers
fan, I can attest to youdo not want to wait until your franchise
quarterback retires to then bring in anotherone. You got to have a plan
in place. So I get thefrustration of not being able to see your

(04:57):
first round rookie contribute immediately, Buthey, we don't draft for this just
this year, right, So Iget it. I mean up in arms
right now? Really yeah, man, the biggest Michael Pennis fan. But
they said, h They said theytook the kid, They brought him in

(05:20):
for a visit, they worked himout. It was fifty degrees outside,
they said it was wind was gusting, and they said the ball was shooting
off of his arm. One ofone of the scouts, one of the
guys, said that he hadn't seena ball come off someone's arm like that
since since Matthew Stafford. That's theclosest thing he's seen since Matthew Stafford,

(05:43):
I believe. And and and whenthey saw that, they was like,
this that guy. We'm not tellingWe're not saying anything to anyone. This
is that guy. Yeah, yeah, man, I mean we've been saying
it, you know, since theseason. And you know, I remember
ra after the National Championship game. You know, there's no way is this
dude's gonna go in the first round. He sucks And I was settling,

(06:06):
was like, don't be surprised ify'all take course out before they had Kirk
Cousins. But I shot him ajabright after the selection. I was like,
don't you ever in your life arguewith me about football? But right
right, well, you know,I'm I'm I'm excited for pandis man like

(06:26):
yeah. And the irony of itall is at the beginning of kirk cousins
career, he was drafted with him, you know, in the same class
as another highly tackled quarterback and ther G three and nobody ever would have
thought Kirk Cousins will become what hebecame. Mm hmm. So in the
back end of your career, youknow, I know his agent doesn't understand

(06:46):
the pick. What hell you ain'tsupposed to understand the pick, you know,
correct? So not your franchise, correct, it is what it is
your agent agent. Uh, everybody'sgonna like but uh, you know I
understand definitely. Now any other pickstood out to you, of course,

(07:11):
I I like the you know, every everything else went at you know,
as we thought the the rock Bowersto the rock Bowers to the Raiders,
right, rock Bowers to the Raiders. That was I didn't you know,
I didn't think they were going toto go brock. You know. I

(07:35):
did thought that they was going totry to squeeze one of those one of
those quarterbacks out. But I guessall of them was already squeezed out,
you know, because I heard that. I hate to be jumping back to
Michael Pennix, but from eight toeleven to twelve to all like all of
those guys was looking at Pinnis.Yeah, you know who was available to

(07:58):
the Raiders. I think they wouldhave taken they would have too, yeah,
and they said he would the Broncos, I mean they had like though,
but the they was covered in himas well. But I guess all
of them just assumed that that penwas going to fall to him because it
wasn't a lot of storm, youknow, behind his name at that point.

(08:18):
He was moving up, but notthey doesn't think he was moving up
like that? Yeah, absolutely, yeah, you know, and after that
that run on quarterbacks, man,it was that kind of pushed everybody else
down. Mm hmm. But youknow, they have six quarterbacks to go
in the top twelve. That's crazy. Yeah, and then not another quarterback

(08:39):
goal again until one hundred picks later. That was crazy, But that was
crazy. It's crazy. I wastelling Lincoln first of all, shout out
the Lincoln Man finishing Yeah, yeah, yeah, no doubt, the uh
proud man. And then the hudReport does a mock draft contest every year,
and the top one hundred contests everyyears, so we're all the top

(09:03):
and we're all the draft analysts throughoutthe country. So I've done it in
like the last four years, fouror five years, and I've handed the
rings open to him for the website, and uh so he finished second overall
time for second behind topicship for thetop one hundred list, so eighty he
hit on eighty five and one hundredplayers for the for the top one hundred.

(09:26):
So that was a good look. And I think he finished it was
over two hundred draft analysts and itwas he finished one o seven out of
two thirty something for the for themock draft contest. That's that's a tough
one. But that's even good tofinish on the top, you know,

(09:46):
third. But yeah, man, shout out the link and the boy putting
in a lot of work, nodoubt, shout out link. Good job
brother. Yeah. But I wastelling him before the draft, you know,
it's just his second draft of reallyimmersing himself in it, you know,
before he you know it's for one, don't get attached to prospects.

(10:11):
Don't get attached to players because you'llbe coveting for your team and they go
somewhere else like your rival, andyou'll end up hating yourself and hating the
player for the next ten years becausebecause you had your heart set on them
so much. And then secondly, well I guess in reverse too, like,
don't get attached to how much youdon't like a player. And you

(10:33):
have to be fluid in this process, like your your thoughts and the player
and your how you feel about aplayer may change or the consensus may change
on that player from what you thoughtabout them in January. So like Bo
Nicks, he was like, no, no way, Bo Nixon is going
the first round. I was likefor any to do to how you feel

(10:56):
about it. And two his youknow of his his how people feel about
him may have changed a whole lotsince January. So you got to be
fluid in that process. And themain thing is quarterbacks are gonna get overdrafted
every year. Yeah, definitely. So you know when quarterbacks started going,

(11:20):
you know, that high and thatfast, that's when you start seeing a
lot of people get pushed down ona lot of good prospects that other positions
get pushed that mm hmmm, alot too, a lot too picky.
That was yeah, the first firstthe defensive guy with the board. That

(11:41):
was because all we heard was wasDallas Turner. You know, but but
you and I spoke about it.We really liked a lot too, you
know, not not that we dislikeTurner, but we really we really like
a lot too. Yeah, talkto your edge guys man a lot too.
And Turner and and Jared Verse. You know, they all got pushed
that m hm. And yeah it'scrazy we didn't see an offensive player for

(12:09):
like seventh first seventeen picks or somethinglike that. I mean a defensive player.
Yeah, they were all just sittingthere like, hey, remember what
about me? Yeah, yeah, anybody want me? You know. But
yeah, it's you know, outsideof you know, those guys falling in
the corner. All the corners onthe top, cornerback, every cornerback was

(12:31):
on the board up until four.So it's just a different draft. Man.
This is draft was like it's intriguingfor one of all the quarterbacks and
to like just it was a deepdraft to start with, and you know

(12:52):
all the players that were pushed downthe board. I mean, you see,
guy's gonna drop into it out ofthe first round anyway every year,
right, So much talent is stillavailable going in today, too. Definitely,
definitely, definitely. I think Ithink the Panthers did themselves a service
by going in and snatching up Xavier. I think he I think he's gonna

(13:15):
be Yeah, I think he's gonnabe special, and they needed that.
They picked up with Johnson from youguys, and then they picked up Xavier
in the draft. They're getting help, they gott Yeah, that's heck of
a pick. And I mean theymoved back into the first round again.

(13:37):
Yeah, one pick and one pickto ensure that they get yeah, right,
because Buffalo needed receivers, so theydid use that leverage. But yeah,
I love Xavier get especially, likeyou said, opposite Deontay Johnson.
Mm hmm, with a different skillset. Because I'm a big, big

(13:58):
believer that your wide receiver room iskind of like a basketball team. You
know, you want to have guyswith different skill sets, and not everybody
does everything the same, so yougotta have some big man, you know,
some some shooters got the point guard. So I like, you know,
the different skill sets they're building inthat in that receiver room. Mm

(14:22):
hmm. Yeah. What do youthink about your bass picture? Man?
Y'all didn't have a whole lot ofpicks, you know, five toe.
Well, we'll just run through mmhmm. Obviously we'll start with Kate Williams,
the number one overall pick. Well, I don't think I have to

(14:43):
ask, but I will anyway, what are your thoughts? I wanted him,
you know. It's just like whenI've seen him play this freshman year,
you know, when he was battlingand and I was like, man,
this kid special, and never inmy life that I ever thought that

(15:07):
he would be playing for the Bearsall that. You know, I was
like, Yo, this kid gotit, you know. So he's a
Bear, and I love it,no doubt, you know. I mean,
we we've seen this happened before theBears, and I had a lot
of a lot of high draftics quarterbacks. So hopefully and hopefully for you that

(15:33):
this, uh, this this onepans out, no doubt, no doubt.
You know what they was talking about, Hey, Drake May and this
and that. I was like, nothing against Drake, but we better not
do that crap. Nothing against Daniels, but we better not do that crap.
Bringing Caleb Yeah, I mean hewas he was the obvious, and

(15:54):
I mean they knew it. Youknow, he's the only quarterback they brought
in for a visit. They onlyteam he went to visit. It was
gonna happen, mm hmm. Yeah. And then the next pick at at
nine, Roma you called it.Uh yeah, so obviously you're happy with
that one. Yes, I wantedhim, of course. I like neighbors

(16:19):
as well. However, I knewhe wasn't gonna get to us and and
and I liked Rome equally. Youknow, I really didn't know he was
that fast. You know, heran a four four seven at the combine.
You know, big guy what sixthree six four almost he's he's I
like him. I'm excited, manas you Yeah, man, yeah,

(16:44):
I'm excited. And then you'll likelygot the smartest player in the drafting Round
three uh m Gage offensive tackle fromYale. We talked about him on the
previous show too. What did youfeel about love it? You're gonna,
I guess you're gonna say that's gonnabecome redundant. I love it, of
course. The first thing I didwas went out and watch film, you

(17:08):
know, more and more film andbig strong, powerful guy you know,
of course, played in the IvyLeague. So they're gonna you know what,
it was a competition, competition, and that's the first thing that they're
gonna say. But I think he'sgonna come in and he's gonna push for
time right away from I mean fromwhat I see, what we'll see.

(17:30):
Yeah, I think the best thingI heard somebody put it this weekend was
he played against a lot of civiliansin college, no doubt. So you
know there will be a bit ofa learning curve and a competition curve.
But man six five three can movelike that, you know there'll be a

(17:55):
bit of an adjustment. It's abig ball of play man. Yeah.
And the good thing about guys likethat is they haven't had the opportunity to
develop a lot of bad habits,so you don't have to he's got to
teach him. They don't have tounlearned. Mm hm. That makes sense.

(18:15):
So I like that concept. Yeah, And Daniel went down got a
punter, Man, I ain't wegot a pun I mean, if you're
gonna get a punter, get ToryTaylor. But he's a heck of a
punter. A lot of people weresaying, if if if the football guys
were just Tory Tory Taylor would havebeen up for the Heisman. This ship

(18:36):
is that good? Really? Yeah? I mean I ain't. I mean
apparently on the I was offense wasso bad. He was their best offensive
weapon. Wow, that good ofa punter. But I don't know.
I mean, did y'all need apunter? I don't know who's bro.
I don't even know. Once Ilooked at the pick and it was a

(18:59):
P I was like, well, look, I trust posed so much.
I said, Wow, I guesswe needed a punter, you know,
so right, I trust the guyso much. I was like, I
guess we I guess we need him. I guess he's good. Yeah right?
And you know what else can yousay? It's fun? Can't criticize
it because like, you know, correct. Yeah. And then that was

(19:22):
supposed to be the final pick fory'all, but y'all traded back up into
the fifth round MM and got ofstthe booker. I thought I was the
heck of the pick, the edgerushing from from Kansas, Kansas. Yeah,
and you know, y, I'vegot some edge pieces, but you
know, I can't have enough passionto them. Think I loved it,

(19:47):
of course, Like like I toldyou, the first thing I did was
go watch film. Yeah, watchhim, watch a game, watch Senior
Bowl, you know, going againstthe you know, the best talent in
the Senior Bowl. So I likewhat he looks like, you know,
I really do. Yeah, Ilike Booker Man he you know, long

(20:08):
rangey pass rusher, like you know, you fifth round. You're not asking
him to come in and start rightaway part of the rotation and m uh
Montes sweat mm hmmm, and uhwell I got h man. We had

(20:29):
the kid, the journeyman. Itwas a one year deal, so we
really don't. Yeah, so we'rereally looking to play. I think Walker
is penciled in, okay for ourstarter for for this year. I guess
unless something comes up or a dealgets made. But Walker Walker that we
signed from the Titans in free agencylast year. Yeah, yeah, we're

(20:52):
gonna We're gonna move him back outsidebecause we had him playing in and out.
But they're saying we're gonna play manthe Marcus, the Marcus, do
something, do something walking Yeah yeah, well yeah, a good opportunity for
Booker to come in and learn mmhmm and get some get some snaps mm
hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Anyany holes that you think were were unfilled,

(21:21):
I don't because the tackle the receivergot an edge. I guess seemingly
we got a punter quarterback you know, were loaded like inside, you know,
and we got a lot of insidedepth on the line right tackle,
got Brahm, he's backing up alinebacking course. Pretty solid corners like we

(21:45):
we I think we did. Ithink my draft was really really good.
Nice pinpointed, pinpoint accuracy. Yeah, and uh, I can't afford to
mess around. Got five picks, but make them count, that's true.
Yeah, man, on my Steelers, I thought they you know, I
thought there was no chance that we'dhave a chance at Troy for our time

(22:11):
twenty. But again, those quarterbacksgoing off the board that early kind of
helped that. Yeah, I hadthem a lot higher on my board than
twenty. So it was a good, good look. Definitely, definitely definitely
second round to get Zach Frazier nothave to trade up for him. So

(22:32):
it was huge for sure. Youknow, we didn't have a center on
the roster. If the Steelers hadto lineup to play a football game tomorrow,
well last Wednesday, they they wouldn'thave had anybody just snapped the ball
reliant me, you know, likethey were at to count on just bodies
to do it. So now onlydid desperate those sentence. So now I

(22:56):
have to trade up for one ofthe best centers in this dreas have and
to still be able to get youknow, one of the one of the
top ones is huge, and getRoman Wilson receiver. Uh in the third
round. That was huge. Wehad a hole there, you know,
and all these guys kind of screamedstealer. So it was generally draft they

(23:22):
have a type and uh, RomanWilson is definitely a stealer and to get
a Then karma came back to biteme getting Peyton Wilson in the fourth round.
You've seen my text messages before thedraft and my thoughts on Peyton Wilson.

(23:42):
I was not a huge fan.I hope he proves me wrong.
Of course, of course, becausehe's he's your guy now right, he's
my guys. But you know,I'm I'm just I wasn't a huge fan
many because of the injuries. Soif he can stay healthy and you know,

(24:03):
give us five years, you know, we shoulder surgeries and linebackers.
Man don't go hand and down.So he doesn't have an a c L
in one knee. Uh, soyou know how that works. But I
mean we've seen him work out beforehines Ward Greg Lloyd didn't have a so

(24:25):
so hopefully proves me wrong. Thenwe go in that fourth round, get
another offensive guard and Mason McCormick. He's a stud, don't have you know,
gonna be a death piece right now. But I guard you a little
older. So you know, JamesDaniels is going in the last year his
contract, so uh you know aguy who may can't resign James, a

(24:47):
guy who's ready to plug and playin the year. So m h and
you know to wrap out with withLogan Lee from Iowa, Ryan Watch from
from Texas. Really good depth pieces, guys, you have good traits.
So I was. I was happywith the draft. And it's it's different
like when when your team has holesand like offensive line and linebacker. Mm

(25:15):
hmm, you don't get to youdon't get as excited. It's not as
exciting as you know we need weneed like wide out some quarterbacks. You
know, he's different. You know, can't like you can watch highlight tapes
and the right right, not thenot the sexy pick right exactly. I'm

(25:38):
excited because I love line play anduh man, I was happy to get
five times. If I see DanMoore at left tackle for another season,
I might drop off the third stepfrom my front front doorstep because I can't
take it up right right? Yeah? Yeah? What what are you?

(26:07):
What are your expectations of the Bearsor I know he's a long way away
from the Cason, but to haverumbadom Ja and d J Moore, Keenan
Allen at receiver and then Cole Comet, you know, how how high are
your expectations man? Playoffs? Youknow, playoffs, fighting for the division.

(26:32):
You know, our defense is reallygood. I'm expecting Caleb to come
in and play. Well, that'sjust what I'm expecting. You know,
we're gonna We're gonna come in andI think we're going to challenge right away.
Yeah, those are my expectations, challenge for the division. So mm
hmm, which which division is better? NFC North of af bro bro Well,

(27:02):
just for the established players, I'mgonna have to say North. Mm
hmmm yeah yeah, NFC North isI mean, if if Caleb is everything
that he should be, m hmm, that's gonna definitely put the NFC North
into bars right in the thicket things. Mm hmmm. So it's gonna be

(27:25):
fun, you are, Yeah,I'm stoked. Yeah with So let's Green
Bay run through the NFC North right, Now, what they did in the
draft get to their picks right quick. Green Bay was able to get okay,

(27:48):
so that Jordan Morning got offensive tackle, maybe a guard, Edgine Cooper
the top linebacker in the draft. They had a really good draft, man,
but it ain't any of those anyof their players. They just say,
damn we gotta play them twice ayear. No, yeah, I

(28:11):
mean good players. But uh yeah, solid right, like you said,
real solid draft? Right. Seewhat Detroit did here? Uh yeah,
man, Detroit terry on on him, arguably the best corner in the draft,
got another corner and in his raystraw, we talked about the need
for corner. Last week, somedude named Giovanni my new He was the

(28:36):
first That was the first who momentfor me in the draft round Lions pick
when they took a dude out ofUniversity's University of British Columbia named Giovanni my
New. Me and Lincoln looked ateach other and was like, who that
was our first who moment? Soyou usually got be able to last in
to at least like round six tillas a player I never heard of.

(29:00):
But yeah, they took the runningback, well, safety converted to running
back from you too. Pretty decentdraft nobody just uh carry on on him
could be guy that uh kind ofshakes things up there. All right,
Right, let's see Minnesota J J. McCarthy. J J. McCarthy man

(29:26):
the legend. Yeah, so andthen Dallastarner of course, yeah J J.
McCarty. Just because of their draftclass, Jajon McCarthy and Kayler Williams
is going to be linked together forthe rest of their careers, just because
they were drafted in the same divisionand uh, in the same draft Flacks.

(29:49):
I ain't gonna ask you who's gonnareign supreme over the course of their
careers because I wouldn't know your answer, but it should be interesting though,
mm hmm. Yeah, because JJ J J. Wins Man, he's
not flashy. I didn't. Yeah, you know he wins I mean right,
yeah, and uh and they gotagain, Dad's turn a guy who's

(30:12):
gonna chase Kater around for the nextten years. M hmm. It's gonna
be It's gonna be fun. Definitely. We had, like I said,
Wayne, go stay all long.We want to touch on the Steelers and
the baths really quick. Well,we'll go a little deeper when now it
gets back next week? Yuh youuh you keep it up with the NBA

(30:36):
playoffs. Man, it's playoff timefor the NBA. Hey. All I
know is I saw text and theLakers finally won one and b put up
with fifty or fifty Burger to geta win. Someone else is playing playing

(31:00):
out of their mind. I can'tremember is that is it the the Thunder?
I can't recall who it was,but bro, I haven't seen.
Oh and who who stole one inBoston? Was at Miami stole one in
Boston. I did see that, but Bro, I probably haven't watched two

(31:21):
minutes total. You know, Isaw one game where the Sun's really really
needed Katie going on the stretch andhe just he just shot was off,
you know, in the mid thirdquarter going into the fourth. So I
haven't seen much. I don't knowwhy my love just evaporated for the round

(31:41):
ball. Yeah, you know,it's tough, man, and uh,
you know, unless we focused onit here on the show, it's tough
to follow as deeply, is itones in I guess you know your if
your your team is not and it'shard to focus on it. But that's
true. That's true. Yeah,so it's crazy because it seems like over

(32:07):
the last month or so, thew n b A has gotten more buzz
in the ANBIA, that's true.Yeah. Did you see how how that
janky ass press introductory press conference theygave Angel Rees in Chicago? Mm hmmm,
dude. So they did an introductorypress conference in a rec center,

(32:34):
no fans, with like eight seatsfor the press. It really looked like
they was doing a draft for littlelike it was. Yeah, it was
you gotta go see it. Idon't know, but it's you know,
I blame the franchise because I meanit ain't just of course, the comparisons
is going to go straight to howCaden Clark was welcome to Indiana, which

(32:59):
was huge, But it's not likethat was the only like Peely she she
got a huge next press conference, you know, com Ina Cardoso and yeah,
like I don't I don't know howhers went, but hern Angel Research

(33:19):
Chicago together, right, But Angelswas it was just JANKI man, like,
she just walked into this little reccenter like it's like a practice gym,
and she just waving one noo fansone like it was just like some
lady welcome to her end at aat a fold like a spades table.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
