Jim Stavis was the first person to ever survive a triple organ transplant.

When he was 17, he was told he'd be lucky to live past his 50th birthday. At that time, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Doctors expected him to be plagued by kidney and heart disease, blindness and amputation before succumbing to diabetes at a young age.

In spite of all of that, he was with us on this interview in his 60+ years of life.

He answered these questions (and many more):

  1. How can experiencing life-threatening situations enhance our appreciation for nature and life itself?
  2. In what ways does gratitude influence our perspective on adversity and the natural world?
  3. How does connecting with nature contribute to feelings of gratitude?
  4. What role does community and shared experiences in nature play in fostering gratitude?
  5. How can we cultivate gratitude in our daily lives through our interactions with nature?
