(00:05):
Hi everybody. I'm Lisa Askalis, the Inventress CEO and founder of Inventing A
to Z and extremely happy to behere on my podcast, The Inventress Podcast.
And you know, every week Ihave a great speaker, an inventor,
entrepreneur. This week, I'm excitedbecause I have the influencer, Angela

(00:26):
Evans. She's a woman of God, she's a mother, she's a powerhouse,
she's just a loving, kind givingperson. She's a best selling author.
I mean, she's got a newpodcast out and a whole host of
other things to share. Welcome Angela. How are you? Thank you?
Thank you, thank you. Iam awesome and I appreciate you inviting me

(00:46):
on your show. Thank you.I'm excited to be here, such a
pleasure. And you know what, you always have so much going on,
and I have to say, thenumber one thing that I see you're doing
always is sharing kindness, spreading theword of God, spreading joy. Yeah.
So I just want to talk alittle bit. Let's get a little

(01:07):
bit about your background and we'll getinto your podcast, which I love.
I love working on me. Whodoesn't need somebody working on them? Most
yea God? Right, Yes,for sure. For sure. I think
you talk about is your journey toconnecting with God? That's your up call.
That's a best seller, girl,I love it. Yeah, thanks,

(01:27):
I appreciate you. So let's start. Let's start by talking about who
Angela is. Who are you Angela? To other people looking at you,
joining you for the first time, who are you? And what is this
all about? Well, I ama woman of God. I have to
give honor to God for all thathas occurred in my life. I'm a
woman who has been through various challengesjust like all of us. I'm a

(01:52):
mother of five, I have threegrandchildren. I'm a full time working mother
as well, and in my spirittime, I do a lot of things
in the community. I have afew different organizations that I participate with where
I'm always active in the community. So my heart has always been big.
I've always done things outside of myhousehold. But for first and foremost,

(02:15):
I am a mom and I amso grateful for my children and the journey
that I am on. And infact, when you mentioned journey to connecting
with God, I was like Wow. When I first wrote the book,
it really was a way for meto inspire others to start their own journey.
My first book was Path to StealWaters. It was my path to

(02:36):
finding God, finding peace. Sowhenever everybody was talking to me and explained
it to me how much they weremoved by my book, I said,
everybody needs their own journey. Sothat's where the name really came from.
But when you mentioned it, justnow, wow. My journey to connecting
with God, it was over aperiod of years, all throughout my life
knowing God, understanding God is real, but not really having a relationship with

(02:59):
him until after I found myself ina challenging time after divorce, after supperating
from my husband. I would haveto say, you know, and sometimes
it takes some some tragedy, someyou know, some sadness in order to
pull you there. You know, sometimes you get you get to a place
that's solo. I think you've knownHe's always there, right, but yes,
but sure, all throughout my life, of course, you know you

(03:22):
you know, you feel God,you know his presence is there, but
it's in those dark times, thosechallenging times where you really have to try
and for yourself, and when hestarts responding, it's all they're like,
okay, I get it, thankyou. I appreciate you. I understand
this moment. I see it's biggerthan this trial. How do you want
me to handle this trump? Sothose are the times when we really get
to trust God in the storm.Yes I have to say it, you

(03:45):
know, and I agree with youthere because but but sometimes it takes another
person to remind you to open youreyes. And I ways talk about hanging
around with positive people, right, being involved with people who are going to
actually lift you up in that spaceand not not bring you down further.
Were you around or surrounding yourself withother positive people to get you to that

(04:05):
that is that's the ultimate goal too, because sometimes when we're dealing with our
own issues, as you know, when we're dealing with our own issues,
we can stay in the bed,we can be measurable and all that.
But whenever you know there are positiveinfluences around you, you gotta pick up
the phone, you gotta get involved. You cannot stay in that spot.
So I appreciate people such as sisterPaul at I have to drop some names

(04:30):
because these were women who really liftedme whenever I was in a downspace.
So you really need to know thego toos. We should try to figure
out who are my goal tools, who are the positive people that I can
speak to, Who are the onesthat I can call when I know I
just need some encouragement. So,yes, I was around my friend's sister
groups. I have to stay involvedin a sister's groups. Of course I

(04:50):
have to give I have to reverencemy spiritual leader who always was in my
ear and reminding me of reading theword and praying and all that. But
I have to say it was sisterfriends. It was Aunt Helda, it
was Sister paul N. It waswomen who themselves have come to challenging times

(05:14):
who have helped me. So it'salmost like when you find somebody who helps
you get out of it, it'salmost like, how do I pay it
forward? How can I not beavailable and accessible for somebody else? And
that's pretty much why I stay activein the community, because there are so
many people who don't know how toask for help, so many people who
are afraid to ask for help, some people who really don't give it,
and some people don't even know theyneed help. That's together part other part

(05:38):
the excellent point. And so isthat what drove you to write your first
book? So after you went throughmany of your trials and tribulations. Was
that what drove you to write yourfirst book? Yes, because what see
what happened for me is I loveFacebook. I have to say that when
I first I didn't have it forthe first three years, was married with

(06:00):
children, dealing with that kind ofstuff. When when Facebook first was introduce
once I was separated, it wassort of like, oh, my goodness,
I can communicate with everybody, andeverybody know hey, and everybody was
looking like, yeah, really, you're okay. Yeah, he had a
horrible experience and you're smiling. Yeah. So it was almost like I'm real
for people too, except that I'msaid I'm good. If I said I'm

(06:21):
good, this is your first timeseeing me since that experience, but I'm
really good. So it was asort of how like, you know,
some people like to talk about thisthat and together. I just want to
talk about God. How about that? Can I share a testimony of that?
And that's what I started doing, just speaking about God openly on social
media. And I think that I'msure I can be positive in what I'm

(06:44):
saying. That that was your catharsis. So having Facebook as a platform,
having a voice and speaking it outto so many people must have been helpful
to your your mind, body, and spirit. Right, you know whether
definitely, whether they're listening or not, somebody's gonna grab onto it, and
you're you're helping other people right atthe same time. Let me let me

(07:08):
tell you something about that thing. You know, how they say you're giving
you received It is truly a domino. I mean it goes around full circle.
As I'm encouraging, you're encouraging me, as I'm saying something, and
you're telling me how I uplifted you. You are really like giving me the
ant. It's like, oh mygoodness, that's all I have to do
and say a kind word and you'regonna be okay. It really does something

(07:29):
for the spiritual help another person.Yeah, yeah it did. Yeah.
You give and you get back, not even that you're doing it for that
reason, right, you give especiallykindness, ye, your kind heart,
you always get it back. Yeah, for sure. What is I'm gonna
say? All right, so nowworking on the new book, Journey to
Connecting with God. What is theI've always gonna say what the page?

(07:55):
One of the pages? How manypages is this book? It's about thirty
pages? Inside the book tone it'sa book of devotionals, I should mention,
yes, beautiful, thank you. What is your favorite page in this
book? To be quite honest withyou, um my intro when I when
I was thinking of, how doI because these are quite not I have

(08:16):
to be honest with you. Idid not grow up in church. I
didn't grow up with the you knowthat foundation of knowing this and that,
So I didn't really have that connectiontruly. Truly, I was speaking from
a point of I was there.I don't really know all of this stuff.
I don't really know how to findthe scripture. I don't really know
the right phrase. I didn't knowany of that. So I went into

(08:39):
this project thinking of it speak fromthat place of twenty years ago when you
really was seeking yourself. And that'spretty much. So. The intro was
almost like I want you to relateto Look, we all have a beginning.
My beginning didn't. I didn't justwake up like this. A lot
of believers, a lot of Ishould say a lot of people who don't
necessarily have a relationship with God.They think that everybody woke up, everybody

(09:01):
had that awakening at a young age. No trials and tribulations forced me to
seek God more and the more. And as you know, one thing happens,
then another thing happens, then anotherthing happens, and you start feeling
like what is going on? Youdon't understand why all of this is happening.
It's because God is trying to showyou something and show something about me.
It wasn't necessarily like, oh,you know what I mean. First

(09:22):
thing, you know what I mean? You can stop pointing out people who
are doing you wrong. But that'snot what God wants us to see.
He wants to how do you handlethis kind of situation? And I have
to thank God for the ability tobounce back because that's really what But the
real essence of life is learning howto live without allowing your trials to consume

(09:43):
you. That's that's right, back, that's right, that's right, And
that's that's also that's being around peoplewho you can lean on when you're down.
Yeah, I'm sure definitely. Mentalhealth issues are huge. You're green,
you know, and they're taking overso so many people's day to day
lives, and some people don't reachout and stretch out. And I certainly

(10:05):
would love people to read your journey, your your your book, and is
this available now, Angela? Yes, it actually is available, is available
on Amazon and m Barnes and Nobles. So yes, people, can you
know get the book. Thank youfor mentioning. Yes, congratulations, that's
a bit appreciate that's a thank you, l that you. I appreciate you,

(10:26):
thank you major accomplishment. Congratulations onthat. Thank you. And I
I want to talk about your yourpodcast to working on Me. I love
the title of the podcast. Iwant to know some of the topics that
you're going to be talking about andjust share because I mean, I think
I know what I need to workon about me. Uh and and how

(10:48):
is how are people going to prefaceand start that? Well, how are
you going to start that conversation onyour podcast? So I will have to
say this that again, I amnot It's nothing pretful about anybody, but
I have to all you I've hadexperiences with children. My children have They're
all different personalities, but one inparticular, I have to stay. And
I already told her. You know, I'm going to talk about our experience

(11:09):
a lot because she was that one. You know, how like you maybe
everybody doesn't have one, but Ihad one who was just so different.
She was challenging because she didn't justflow. She was so different, you
know, she was different from anyother kids. And she was that confrontational
one. Why do I have toor why can't I? She was that
challenging one. So she was sochallenging to the point that she even ran

(11:31):
away from home. Let me tellingyou, she ran away from home that
once, like two or three times, so and she became a young early
teenage bomb and all that. I'mnot saying that to you know, point
out her imperfections, But the challengeswith me going through that. Why am
I feeling like this? Why amI so caught up in that emotion?

(11:52):
Why am I so depressed? Whyam I not knowing how to trust God
through this process? Why am Inot so me so going we through challenges
such as the ones that she runt, I know that there are so many
women are going to do challenges withdifficult children. I don't want to say
difficult, I'll say more challenging.I'll say more adventurous. I mean the
ones who really really, you know, push the envelope. Those those children,

(12:16):
they will challenge us to be better. So, you know, so
This was about why you're you're creatingthis podcast, but working on me,
because you do have to work onyourself in order to deal with the challenges
that sometimes children can bring into yourlife, not just your children, but
everybody else. And I how abouteverybody else? Between difficult people, difficult

(12:39):
people in general, the coworkers, voices, the experiences on the day,
the databasis, because there are difficultpeople all over the world. How do
we maneuver in this picture? Whoam I in this picture? Let me
work on me. It's not worryingabout pointing fingers out everybody else, because
that's the other thing needs. Sosometimes when we have things done to us,
we want to tell everybody called everybody? Do you can tell everybody about

(13:01):
that person? That's not necessary. It's no longer work on me, Like
what do you help? Who doesit? It's not helping anybody to do
that. It's not it's not howdo you work on you? One of
them? I have to tell you. What works for me is a relationship
with God. Okay, God isfirst and foremost in all that I do.

(13:22):
So again, I'm usually up reallywee hours in the morning. So
between the prayer time, between themeditation, and every day is not the
same, you know how like somepeople have a regiment. I gotta get
up, I gotta have this,I gotta do my tea. I got
no, I don't have It's adifferent it's a different thing. I may
be listening to inspirational music one day, I may just be on myney just
meditating. My experience with God isso different. And the things that pops

(13:43):
up in my head and the weehours of the morning, I appreciate if
I if I could tell anybody anythingthose wee hours of the morning when everybody
is asleep, when it's quiet inthe house, So that's that intimate time.
So I start my day or withtrying to here from God. It's
different every day. And as Iwas telling you, I used to do

(14:03):
Facebook lib and every day every morningI'm waking up, you know, just
wanting to give a word. OhI have to share another word, oh
being Oh this is a good one. But now it is none of that.
It's almost sort of like I'm justwaiting for God to speak to me
pretty much. And I can't tellyou how how much easier it has been
become for me to include Him inevery aspect of my life. Now.

(14:24):
I know people may look at yourlife here right whatever, but I'm telling
you, the more you get shareswhat anybody thinks. You know, this
is about you, your relationship. And I love the way you're saying.
There's no specific path that you necessarilyneed to follow. It's your relationship with
God. Is your relationship. There'sno there's nothing saying that this is what

(14:46):
you should you should be doing nightevery day or every night or every Sunday
or whatever every night night right?Right? Do you when you know and
you're given different information and call likeyou're listening for him, so you're being
guided you know through what to dohow to do it right? So that's
thank you for that. Who caresabout what anybody else says or things?

(15:07):
This is you and him because that'senergy wasted, right, okay, you
wasted when anybody when you even thinkingabout when anybody else could possibly think be
thinking, because that's that's you doyour thing. You do your thing.
Really appreciating that, I want toask other things? Do you do other
other personal care? What? Whatelse is your personal care? Your vacation

(15:31):
because I know you're busy and I'mnot talking about going on vacation, traveling
somewhere. What do you do forAngela that is peaceful? What is your
peace of mind outside of your meditation? Because I start my day that way
every single day because I can,as I say, all the time without
him, I'm without so I getyou. So what do you do for
you? Also in addition to becauseyou run a lot of charities, you

(15:54):
do, you do, you do, you do, you give, you
give, you give, But whatis your what is your self care?
And I'm not saying routine because nothinghas to be you know, special or
specific routine. But what is yourWhat is the special thing you give to
yourself? Just like you were tosay, time away from everybody and everything,

(16:18):
And as a as a mom,I'm so glad you brought that up
because I was just sharing with mygirlfriend maybe about a month ago, how
like I have to get back tothat me time I'm talking about. I
used to run a room in thehotel and I would tell the kids,
I'm going away for a day kindof thing, and before the end of
the night, I'm calling them againbecause I think, like I just didn't

(16:38):
know how to disconnect from the world. I need more of that time I'm
so glad you brought this point upbecause I have to do it again.
The truth of the matter is thatin order for us or like, it's
got to be balanced. It hasto be a balance. And I know
whenever I'm like really running and runningand running, it's because I didn't take
time out from me. You know, you gotta take time out for you.

(16:59):
So I appreciate what you're saying. That's so the downtime is. And
I'm gonna be honest with you, even in the downtime. I love writing.
I'm just I just love writing.But then yeah, I love you're
giving yourself love and you're expressing yourselfthrough writing. But good, that's something
that you give to you. Youhave to give to yourself. Because we
so busy running as women, asmoms, as entrepreneurs, we sometimes think

(17:25):
that our work is a part ofthe tharsis, and it's it's really not.
It's not taking that time, thatpeaceful time to just be alone in
your own thoughts. And I lovethat you sometimes go away to a hotel.
I had a girlfriend many years agowho said, um, you know,
she called me up and she says, what are you doing today?
So well, she goes, I'mspending the night at a hotel here in

(17:47):
Asbury Park. You're want to comeand join me? I said, spending
the night? She goes, Yeah, I'm away for three days. I'm
at the and she lived here likeclose by. I said, well,
good for you. Good going tothe pool, I'm going to the on
I'm going to you know, justeat whatever I want and spend these three
days by myself, just doing me. Yeah. I never did the three

(18:10):
day thing, but I could doan like an overnight a night. It's
like, it's hard. I'm gonnabe honest with you. For me,
it is really hard, but itis necessary. I really I find that.
And my youngest right now with seventeen, so I don't need a baby.
Said at this point, you understand, So there's no excuses. Yeah,
thank god, you must do that, Angela, you must. I
appreciate you sharing that. So,so what I want to do right now

(18:33):
is ask you to please share yoursocial media, share your Amazon where we
can get you where everybody can purchaseyour book. Because everybody out there listening
is going to purchase your book.Yeah, follow you on social media,
so please let us know how tocontact you that way. Angela. Okay,
so on Facebook my name is AngelaEvans. I also have a page

(18:56):
author Angela Evans and UM. Instagramis Angela underscore e Underscore Evans. That's
where I share some material as well, and UM one of the My website
is Angela Evans Publishing dot com orone word Angela Evans Publishing dot com.

(19:22):
And on the website, I'm gonnahave more information about the podcast which will
start airing next month. And thatis really um away working on me podcasts.
It's a way for us all tojust identify, well, who am
I? What? What? Whatshould I be doing? Never mind talking
about this one that one? Nevermind all that again, like you said,

(19:44):
what about mean? What who amI in the village? You know?
So with that being said, mygoal is just to encourage others.
You know, we all have astory. Okay, we heard the story.
Now what's the solution? How arewe moving forward? How did you
overcome? How do we get toanother place where we can incorporate God?
That's most importantly. I am nothing. I can do nothing with hell God.
So for those who can relate tothat, you know, how do

(20:07):
we encourage one another to incorporate God? In our daily routines so that we
can come better for God. Withthat being said, that's pretty much what
it is working on me. Everybody'sa work in progress. We have a
ride, right, I'm no.We all should be amen every day every

(20:27):
day. And I love that you'regonna have this podcast because it's a constant
reminder and I love I know you'regonna have that engage, those engaging conversations
for sure, for sure. Yeah, So I can't wait. And however
we can help you push that outlove to be able to do that.
And I appreciate you so Angela, keep on doing what you're doing. I'm

(20:48):
so proud of you, so proudof you. Thank you. I appreciate
you, Thank you, and thankyou for being on the Adventurous podcast.
I can't wait to see you again. And uh yeah, let's do this
again. Yeah, I'm looking forinviting myself. I'm inviting myself to be

spoke to the women. You gavethem encouraging words, you gave out gifts,
and you are such an influencer anda positive romodel in the community outside

(21:36):
of what you do, and you'realways on the road in the air and
another state. So I thank youfor taking time out for me and the
young ladies to come and bless uswith your presence and the knowledge and wisdom
that you share. Thank you somuch. Oh, you're so very welcome.
