Speaker 1 (00:00):
Flur Delacour Part two. May I have your attention? Please?
May I have your attention? Please? Well, the real Weird
Sisters please stand up. We're gonna have a problem here
were the Weird Sisters. Were the real Weird Sisters? All

(00:20):
you are the Weird Sisters are fine, but not the Vicers. Well,
the real weird Sisters.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Please stand up, Please stand up, Please stand up. Hi,
and welcome to the Real Weird Sisters. I'm Martha and
I'm Alice, and today we're here to talk about Flur
Delacour in the fifth and sixth books. This is Flur
Part two.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Well said, Yeah, we're having to be a little bit
bilingual on this podcast thanks to covering our first French character.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Of the series. Yes, exactly.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
So, when I say fifth and sixth books, that's being
a bit generous to the fifth book. She has a
total of one mentioned in the fifth book. She is
not present in the fifth book, but we will mention.
We'll address that mention of her in the fifth book.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
It is brief, but it is something that we have
to do. We or we're not going to skip over it.
That would be weird if we did so. Yeah, I
was surprised though, that there was only one mention of her.
I really thought that there'd be at least one or
two other times where not just talking about her and Bill,
but like just references to what happened last year. I

(01:29):
feel like that's kind of a weird.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
That's part of what makes the fourth book like stand
out in not such a good way, as I feel
like it gets talked about the least as far. I mean,
I guess Cedric's death gets talked about, and Voldemort's return
gets talked about, but like the Trywizard turn of it itself,
I feel like we like kind of are one and
done with that.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
It's like the only reason that it ever comes up
is because of Georgie and our friend and Georgie's joke shop,
and like, other than that, it never comes up, right, Yeah,
I mean we hear about obviously Cedric's death, like I said,
and then obviously so you're you're saying you feel that
it's weird that the death of a friend would overshadow
the Try Wizard tournament.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Oh yeah, they were such close friends. But no, I'm
just saying it's weird because it's it was such a
huge like difference in like what was going on for
them that year that it like you said, it just
doesn't really. Yeah, they never like talk about it the
winnings for the joke Shop like you said.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
But yeah, So the.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
One mention we get and the fact that Harry knows
how to do impedimenta now because I feel like that's
one of his like sticking things.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, he does love impedimenta one of his signature moves.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, because it totally is.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
But yeah, so the one mention we get which does
avoid the charity bourbage effect for next book is going
to be that when they're all catching Harry up at
grim old place about what's been going on, George says
that Bill took a desk job at Gringott's and remember
old Fleur de la cour. Yeah, yeah, I assure feel

(02:59):
like exactly exactly, like, yes, I remember her.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I was I saw her last month.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah, she she also is working at during gods and
she's Bill's helping her improve her English, right.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I think, uh, sometimes I do feel that like the
fact that there would be a gap in time for
us as readers, like waiting for the books to come out,
is the reason that it seems like, oh do you,
it would seem like it is so long, but it's like, okay,
Harry's actually only been gone for a few weeks.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
But yeah, yeah, yeah, I was thinking that too, like
obviously that that's there for us, like as the reader,
especially back when this book came out, Like it probably
was what two or three years between these two books.

Speaker 3 (03:46):
Wow, that was one of the longer gaps between the
fifth and uh sick sorry, the fourth and fifth books,
because the fourth book came out in I think two
thousand and one or was it two thousand. I think
it was two thousand and one, and then it might
have been two thousand and then the other one didn't
come out till like two thousand and three, so okay,

(04:06):
I think it was like a three year gap.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, that is quite a while.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yeah, yeah, let's just double check our get our facts
straight here.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
The book was written in two thousand. Yeah, yeah, I
think that.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Was like the longest break between them, because then after
that it was always like a two year gap between
each other, right.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Because Order the Phoenix was published in two thousand and three. Yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Can always just go back and got your facts straight, Alice,
I know.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Here's the thing and This is like a little aside
that's not going to really matter to too many people.
But if you're wondering why I was not sure if
it was two thousand or two thousand and one for
Book four, it's because I had the same teacher in
fourth and fifth grade, and so I was like, I
know that I had her at that time, and so

(04:54):
I sometimes those two years blend together for me, So
I couldn't remember if it had come out right after
fourth grade or right after fifth grade, And it was
with the Peak behind the Curtain right after fourth grade.
And then I didn't get to read the fifth book
until right after seventh grade, so that was quite a
long wait.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
That was quite a long wait. And then you were
in the paper just two years later when I was
going into sophomore year.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah. Very cool, Okay, so very cool. Yeah. So anyway,
that's the only mention we get there. There's no other
word for it. That was cool exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
But yeah, I mean there's kind of an implication that
Bill and Flurr are doing a little bit more than
just teaching each other the language, or you know, Bill's
doing a bit more with flur than just giving helping
her improve her English But one thing I did want
to address is I always kind of forget that Flour
actually is working at Gringotts as well. In the sixth book,
there's a couple of mentions where it's like Flur was
at work, and I was like, what, I forgot that

(05:49):
she works. I thought she kind of just was around
the house planning the wedding all year.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
But she's workings like she would be like a trophy wife.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
But she's a bit young for that right now.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah, we have to remember she's really smart though too.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Well Harry reminds us of that, yeah, pretty soon at
the beginning of this book.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Well you probably just like the way she says Alice.
Huh yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Okay, so yeah, that's the only mention we get a
floor in the fifth book, But she's going to be
all over the pages of the sixth book.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
So there's gonna be an excess of flem Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
In fact, I've asked you not to call her that Alice.
But yeah, there's We've decided that we're going to do
a total of three floor character studies Floracter studies or for.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Character flour studies Delacre studies.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Yeah, delic character okay, So I actually speaking of Delacour,
I wonder if Floor ever goes by Dela or Flora. Yeah, funny,
just a little Bendola creb reference for anybody who's confused,

(07:05):
which is ninety five percent of our audience.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Well, Flertila, it's okay.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Anyway, So back into jumping into the sixth book, Harry's
a bit bewildered or he's kind of like out of
the loop at the beginning of this book with when
it comes to Flur. He arrives obviously in the middle
of the night, so he just talks to missus Weasley,
and of course she doesn't mention the fact that Flour
is there. She's kind of, I think, doing her best

(07:36):
not to think about Flour when she's not in the room.
So the next morning, Ginny is talking. Ginny comes into
Harry and Ron's room and Hermione is there as well,
and Ginny's like looking really irritable, and she's like, it's her.
She's driving me mad, and what's she done now? It's

(07:57):
the way she talks to me, You'd think I was
about three.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Well, everybody talks to little Ginny that way.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Well, she is about three, isn't she I thought she
was at least two, but now no older than four.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
She's a little baby after all, exactly.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Everybody talks to her likes I know, she's so full
of herself, Harry. Harry was astonished to hear Hermione talking
about missus Weasley like this, and could not blame Ron
for saying angrily, can't you too lay off for five seconds?
Oh that's right to defend her?

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Snap, Genny. We all know you can't get enough of her.
This seemed a noncommon to make about Bron's mother.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Yeah you think, But so then I love that scene.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
I think it's so funny.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
I especially love the Hermione like Harry was astonished Hermione
talking about missus Weasley, Like, I just think it's so
funny because like, has Jinny ever complained about missus Wheezley
like this at all before?

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Like why why Harry's mind jumps to missus Weasley. She's
like the only.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
Other her in the house exactly, And I think, like sometimes,
I mean, it sort of does tie into like and
Ginny did not go quietly like she's had she's had
little like spats with her mom before, especially like the
part about her like talking to her like she's three.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
Is sort of true because it's like, oh, she.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
Does treat her like the baby of the family, baby exactly.
But I think, like, yeah, it's I think it's primarily
coming from the fact that Harry didn't know there was
another woman in the house.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, that that makes sense. But yeah, I've always loved
the scene as well. It's very funny moment and very
relatable for Harry of just being out of the loop
on what's going on. But so then Flour shows up
with the breakfast tray, a woman of such breathtaking beauty
that the room seemed to have become strangely airless.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
She was airless. Yeah, she was tall and willowy, with
blonde hair and appeared to emanate a faint sillery glow.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
To complete this vision of perfection, she was carrying a
heavily laden breakfast tray. Like, why is that completing the
vision of perfection because it's like kind.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Of like trad wife vibes.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Yeah, well, I think it's just that it's like the
food looks really good too.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Right, it probably is.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
It's like, Okay, how can you be even more tempting? Oh,
bring with you some delicious looking food.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Right, but it's some weird phrasing.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
So then Missus Weasley shows up. She's looking rather cross.
She's kind of mad that Flour brought the breakfast tray
at herself instead of instead of Missus Weasley, and she
gives Harry.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
I'm like, I never understand that.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
I'm like, well, she wants to do the work, then.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Letter, Well, I think Missus Weasley doesn't want anybody thinking
Flour made this delicious.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
True. Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
So Flour gives Harry a big kiss on each cheek,
and he felt the places where her mouth had touched
him burn.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
Is that normal? I don't know. I've never been kissed
by a villa. That must be the villa venom.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
She probably put the old charm on him, she had
laid it on him. Yeah, I don't know the part
about them burning.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
I feel like his cheeks might be burning, but not
necessarily from where she kissed him.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Yeah, I mean maybe it's just like, yeah, it happens,
so happens to be that she kissed him all the cheeks,
and yeah, his cheeks are burning because he's embarrassed. I
feel like this is kind of the closest we've ever
seen to Harry actually being sort of into Flour.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
I think he's most of the time, she laid the
old charm on him. Yeah, laid the old charm on
for Potter.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
I feel like most of the time, though, like we
were talking about last character City, like Harry's really not
doesn't really see Floor that he's not like interested in her.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
I think most of the time, Harry is a lot
more like able to sort of like think rationally around
some of the girls that Ron seems to be more
charmed by.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
But yeah, And I also just think like Harry's like
just doesn't really have any actual interest, Like I think.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
That she's like a sister to him always.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
I think I think just more so, like he's just
like more intimidated by her than Yeah. But so, yeah,
Harry's so confused. He's like, because Flour is talking about
how Gabrielle never stops talking about Harry Potter and Harry, oh.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
Is she here too? Why would she be? Right?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Well, Harry just is so confused why Flour's there. Like,
to be fair, he's got a year of only getting
one mention of Flour that we know of, and that
was a very brief mention from George back when Harry
was also super like angry and emotional in that scene too,
so he might not have even been listening very well.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
So yeah, missus Wesley is it admits.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
That they hadn't gotten around to telling him yet, And
I do think that, like, this is gonna be something
we're gonna see a lot this book. Like Flur is
right to feel a little bit offended by this. She
looked reproachfully at missus Weasley. She doesn't say like she
didn't like say anything about it, but I do feel
like that's kind of a slap in the face. And
I know he's only been there for less than a day,

(13:17):
but it still does I can see why she would
be a little bit frustrated there.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Yeah, you'd think that maybe the fact that Bill got
engaged would be top of the list of things that
might be shared with Harry, right, But I mean, yeah,
he really didn't get very much time to catch up
with them in general. So but yeah, I mean I
think besides, but I do think it was sort of
intentional for missus.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
Weedeys totally, because I think that if it had been
if he was engaged to somebody, she was excited about
him marrying She would have been the first thing she
told Harry, like the way that she's like, oh, Arthur's
been promoted, Like she wanted to just tell him that,
she wanted to tell him that. So yeah, I think
that it's totally because it's Floor that he didn't find
out until now.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
But mom hates her.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
Yeah, so Jenny or sorry, So Floor leaves And then
that's when Ginny and Missus Weasley and Ron and Hermione
all start talking about her. That Ginny says Mum hates her,
which don't crack me up because it's like different, Like,
like we said, we've always kind of seen Missus Weasley
babying Ginny and this is more of a moment of

(14:20):
like the two of them are sort of in kahoots
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Yeah, they actually are kind of like Missus Weasley denies
that she hates Flour and I don't think she hates her,
but I think that's Genny, like, you know, being a teenager.

Speaker 4 (14:35):
Exaggerating a little bit.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
But Missus Weasley, I don't, I don't do not hate her.
I just think they've hurried into this engagement, that's all.

Speaker 4 (14:45):
And Ron's like, well, they've known each other a year.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Right, Well, And I just want to say, like, I
think we've talked about this a bit already, but I
think a lot of this stuff from Ron that we
see in this book is we see it through the
Hermione lens of like thinking that Ron's like obsessed with Flur,
and I actually think in a lot of cases, Ron's
actually being way more rational.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Than the women in this situation.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Like I get that Ron is sort of still has
a crush on Flour, but the fact that, like this
is a pretty good point that they have known each
other a year, and I think they've probably been dating
a year. I mean, not that that's a super long
amount of time, but it's not as much of a hurry,
especially for the Wizarding World.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
It's not like dogs and lupid in a year, right exactly.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
So, I mean, I guess they've known each other for longer,
but like they don't date for very long before they're engaged.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
In having a baby, right exactly.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
So, Yeah, this is extremely slow for the Wizarding.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah it is.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
And yeah, then missus Weasley's like Bill and Flour, what
have they really gotten in common?

Speaker 1 (15:48):
He's a hard working, down.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
To earth sort of person, whereas she's Ginny a cow.
But yeah, at least Ginny has the uh, the understanding
that Bill Lilly isn't down to earth.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
That's not a very good word to describe him.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Yeah, and and she kind of has a theory on
why they're getting together. She says, Bill's not that down
to earth. He's a curse breaker, isn't he. He likes
a bit of adventure, a bit of glamour. I expect
that's why he's gone for Phlem.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
I've asked you not to stop calling her that Genny
while Harry and Herman he laughed, hilarious.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
I've never liked the Flem nickname. I think it's really dumb. Well,
it doesn't.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
It's not really that close to flur, So it's not
like exactly, it's not like her name was like Flair
or something like I don't even know, but like, you know,
like something like that.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Yeah, I don't know. I guess my big thing. I
think I've probably admitted this her.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Name was like Flom or something, not that that's a name,
but like you know, it would be more of a
play on it instead of like.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Just the flaw sound.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
But yeah, I mean my biggest issue that I was
about to say, it's like, you know, when I read
this the first time, and I know I've said this before,
maybe this is embarrassing, but I did not know what
the word flem meant when I read this as a ten.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Year old or whatever I was.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Uh So, I guess it's I could thank this book
for being the reason I learned what the word flem means,
But I was like, I didn't really get what.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Like the insult was because I well, and it's also.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
It's it doesn't really like to me, I'm not like,
it doesn't really tie into her other than that it's gross,
like and Ginny doesn't like her and less so like
you wouldn't you know, it's like not a nice thing
to call somebody. But it's like, what does that have
to do with Flur?

Speaker 1 (17:38):
You know, right right, It's not like she's always blowing
her nose or something, right exactly.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
So it's it's just not that clever of a nickname.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Right exactly. That's a good point as well.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Yeah, anyway, I did know what flem was when I
read it, but I was also still just confused because
it just seems like a bit of a reach.

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Yeah, and I think it's.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
Partly the fact that it's the pH instead of the F.
It just when you're reading it, you don't necessarily like
see the connection, yeah as much.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
That's that's a good point too. So Harry does defend flir.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
She points out that Flour is not stupid.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
She was good enough to enter the Triwizard Tournament, which
Hermione not you as well, like Hermione is really rude
about her and she is not being a girl's girl, no,
and then yeah, there's gonna be a moment later with
Hermione that really proves that Hermione is completely biased. And
then like not for any good reason, but we'll get
to that. But yeah, this is this conversation. Still we

(18:38):
have to talk about how Genny is Genny's theory, which
let's talk about this a little more, and I think
we probably have before, but it's worth talking about. Genny
thinks that missus Weesley has been inviting Tonks to in
the hopes that Bill will fall for Tonks instead.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Uh, yeah, which I mean there's lots going on with
the misinterpretation of Tonks, and we did we did have
an interesting comment in our patron group this week that
I am going to I'm gonna refer to because I
think it's important that we get the timeline of them
all of this.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Right.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
So, Alex, one of our patrons, said that Tonks is
much younger than people usually think.

Speaker 4 (19:20):
She's actually younger than.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Bill, but she is still older than Flur. So Bill
was born in nineteen seventy, Tonks was born between late
seventy two and seventy three seventy two and seventy three,
and Fleur was born between seventy six and seventy seven.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
So Tonks really is like super young.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
So it is like even weird.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
Like, I mean, Tonks is really only like eight years
older than Harry. Yeah, so that does make the age
difference between her and remis even more like baffling.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah, I mean, to be fair, Remss is twenty years
older than Harry, so he's like, okay.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
So like yeah, twelve because I guess twelve years older
than Tongs.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Right, But yeah, the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
And apparently Alex said that we are the ones who
told her all track, but I don't remember this.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
Slewed this out on the wiki a while back.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
Probably we're doing that, but I mean it checked checks
out but I don't remember doing it.

Speaker 3 (20:17):
Yeah, yeah, it sounds like something we would do, but
then I would promptly forget it because it doesn't make
a lot of sense.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah, I've already forgotten most of it. But yeah, I
mean so just like, yeah, it it. The age difference
between Bill and Tongs is actually like the two of
them would sort of make sense together based on that
they're only two years apart, right, But the whole thing
is that this is not actually what missus.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
Weasley's trying to do.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
No, Yeah, but I can see why Ginny would come
to that because also, I mean as Ginny, Ginny and
Hermione kind of like have a you know, a little
crush on Tongs As far as yeah, friend, she's pretty awesome.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
She's a damn sight nicer than phlegm.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
Listen, no bloke in his right mind's going to fancy
talks when it flows around. I mean, punks is okay.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
Looking when she is doing stupid things to her Haaren knows.
So yeah, the two boys and the two girls are
at odds here with how they're seeing fl Yeah, it
is interesting.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Because I think like none of them are really none
of them really have the feminist attitude here that we'd
like to see.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
I feel like Harry's not being.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Okay, yeah, but I'm talking about Ron versus Ginny and Hermione.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Ron.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
He's sort of defending Flur, but then he's like just
going off of looks, and then Ginny and Hermione are
being very like, kind of biased about anybody who's really
pretty can't be smart, right, right.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
So it's kind of yeah, you're right.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
I think Harry is kind of being maybe the most
like like mature perspective on it, of like, yeah, that
is actually not stupid.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
She's she was good enough to enter the Triwizard.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
Tournament, so right, even though it made all the other
bo Batten's girl sad, Ginny, I suppose you like the
way Flem says Harry, do you, Harry no, wishing he
hadn't spoken.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
I was just saying Flem, I mean flour. Harry's still
waking up, I think, yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
But yeah, so, and Ginny would much rather have talks
in the family. At least she's a laugh.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Yeah, she's such a laugh.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
But okay, so then we jumped to uh, Ginny has well,
Ginny has to go downstairs to help with the lunch
and she's a girl.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
She only wants me there so she doesn't have to
be alone with Flem.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
She swung her long red hair around in a very
good invitation to flir, prams around, runs to cross the
room with her hands held aloft.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Like a ballerina. Oh yeah, just like Flour. Flour does
that all the time.

Speaker 4 (23:09):
Well, there's Ginny with her physical comedy.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
We've talked about that. Yeah, she is the Queen of
the prank or whatever. I mean, he's good impressions.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
I think part of why Harry is seeing her as
being doing such a good impression is that he's starting
to be into her already a very good impression. Oh yeah,
but it's such a good impression.

Speaker 4 (23:32):
Maybe you're just jealous, You're worried Ginny would give you
a run for your money.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
I suppose, I suppose I like the way she says ari. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
So then we have this moment that I was talking
about with hermione, where so, first of all, okay, I
get why she snaps at floor the way she does.
First because her hermione gets bruised by the punching telescope
and hermione is well sorry, Ginny says, it'll be Freda
and George the idea of a funny joke, making sure
it won't come off, And Bill told me Alfred and

(24:05):
George are very amusing, and then her Biody snaps it floor.
I can hardly breathe for laughing, But that this, I
used to.

Speaker 1 (24:15):
Think that was the funny line.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Now I kind of think that Fleur was the fully
one in that, right, So but yeah, so Hermione is
all stressed out because the owl results are going to
be showing up that day. But Flor starts talking about
how at Bobatten's they have a different way of doing things,
and I feel like, if this was anybody else talking,
Hermione would be fascinated by this conversation, right, But Hermione

(24:36):
instead is just completely tuning her out. And I mean,
I get again that this is partially because she's just
so stressed about the results coming in, but I just
this is kind of unforgivable for her body here.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Honestly, it's quite rude.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
I mean, you can't, like, it's just rude to just
like not listen and to immediately dismiss anything that Flur
says as being like boring or irrelevant or whatever.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Yeah, and it does sound.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
I mean, I'm not I know hermiony, but I do
think that this sounds kind of interesting hearing about how
they do exams after five or sorry six years of
study instead of five.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
That does make sense. Yeah, yeah, I agree.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
I mean I guess Hermione just assumes that because Flour
is like I think, Ea twas better.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
It's like she's being rude or something to Hogwarts.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Yeah, but I mean, yeah, Hermione, you'd think she'd be interested.
It's not like in keeping with Hermione's usual interest in
learning about.

Speaker 1 (25:32):
The world, not at all.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Yeah, And I just, yeah, I think that Hermione is
so biased against Flour that and it's kind of colored
the way we saw Flour for a long time.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yeah, agreed.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
So yeah, not much more from flor in this chapter,
but we see her a few more times before they
go to Hogwarts, mostly just being kind of annoying she is.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
We see her.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
Flying blur or sorry, plying Bill with wine whatever that means.
That's a very brief scene, and then we see her
stroking Bill's nose after he gives Harry his bag of gold.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
He is always so thoughtful.

Speaker 4 (26:17):
You kind of sounded like Madame maxim there French.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
I know, but you said it's a like pompous. He
is always so thoughtful. Well, that's kind of how she's talking.
I mean, flir is shed she purred it okay, yeah,
and Ginny mimed vomiting into her cereal. Behind Flour, Harry

(26:45):
choked over his corn flakes.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
No, it is quite amusing the physical comedy.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
Genny is always a laugh. At least she's a laugh.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
Then we have another moment before they go to Hogwarts,
where Flour's talking about the wedding and Missus Weasley is
looking bad tempered. So they're talking about how Ginny and
Gabrielle will be the two bridesmaids and Pink would of course.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Be horrible with Ginny's air.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Ah, Harry said Missus Weasley loudly, cutting across Flour's monologue, like,
I don't know, I just feel like, from Floor's perspective,
like talking about the wedding with your future mother in
law's not that weird.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
Yeah, I mean, I guess maybe she should.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Be a little more tactful about how she phrases things,
Like maybe instead of saying it would be horrible with
Ginny's hair, she could just say, like, I just think,
like pink probably isn't the right color for Ginny or
something like that.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
Yeah, are like, you know, red hair and Ginny's red
hair would clash with pink or.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
Something like, Yeah, pink, of course would be horrible.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
But yeah, I just think like Missus Weasley is so
uninterested in this conversation.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
It's pretty pretty rude. Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 2 (28:09):
But I like how she said Ginny and Gabrielle will
look very sweet together.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Well they will, they're both so sweet, so wittle, yeah exactly.
Then Flour starts being rude about talks. She has let
herself goes. I guess, Alice, you should be doing these impressions.
I don't know why I'm reading it.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
She has let herself goes at tonks a big mistake,
if you are, and Missus Wheeling, yes, thank you, I mean,
where's the lie exactly?

Speaker 1 (28:45):
And also like she's not I mean a big mistake, like.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
She's that's sort of there's sort of a compliment hidden
in there, right, I don't know about that. Well, yeah,
it's like saying like she used to be she used
to have a lot going for her, and now she's
let herself go.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Yeah, maybe.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
I feel like you're now kind of over correcting on
trying to get or constantly the benefit of the doubt.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
I am because I feel like poor Flour, like she
feels horrible.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
I feel badly about that exactly.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
But yeah, I think that it's also weird here, Like
it's as Flur amused this as she was examining her
own stunning reflection in the back of a.

Speaker 1 (29:32):
Tea spoon, like that's I guess that's Harry's observation of it.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Yeah. I was gonna say, like, that's not necessarily what
flur is thinking, like.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
How would we know, you know, right, exactly, but maybe
that is what she's doing. Yeah, so then we we
have before they leave for Hogwarts, Flour gives Harry a big.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Kiss on the cheek and n Harry not Harry. Yeah, sorry,
I forgot I can revoir a. I heard Ron hurried forward,
looking hopeful, but Ginny stuck out her foot and Ron fell,
sprawling in the dust at her feet, And you have

(30:14):
to say that it's pretty funny. I feel bad though,
but yeah, I can't catch a break.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Also, like why was he so hopeful to get a
kiss from his future sister?

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Right?

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I know, I'm like Ron, chill yourself exactly.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
So we'll jump ahead.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Now we have a couple of thoughts of flir Well
before we actually see her again. One I didn't actually
put in the notes, but we have Ginny's blow up
at Rod when she's like, I've seen you with Phlem,
hoping that.

Speaker 1 (30:55):
She'll get she's kind of right. Yeah, it kind of
needs to be called out too, like that's gonna be
your sister in law.

Speaker 4 (31:02):
Yeah, cool it, dude.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
Seriously, I wonder if Flour remembers that Ron asked her out.

Speaker 4 (31:11):
Probably not, Honestly, it kind of all blends together for her.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
She probably gets so many like boys acting goofy around her.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
She didn't even know who Ron was, is the thing, right,
although maybe we're not giving her enough credit for being smart.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Well I know, but like thinking about the fact that
she's like a student from another school, there's like all
these random boys, right right, Probably lots of kids did,
but true.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
Yeah, So that The other mention of Flour is when
Ron and Hermione, where Harry's like speculating about if they
get together, and he's thinking what if they became like
Bill and Fleur, And it became excruciatingly embarrassing to be
in their presence, so that he was shut out for good.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
Kind of extreme, but yeah, yeah, I can see why
he's worried about that.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
Yeah, except for like imagining on her mighty acting like, well,
that is what happens with Ron and lav lab Yeah.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
True.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
Okay, so we're gonna see Flour some more at Christmas
and then also at the end of the book, but
we'll take a quick break for a word from our sponsors.
So jumping to Christmas, before we actually see Flour, we
see Missus Peasley talking about who's all going to share
rooms at the borough, and I guess they're traditional because

(32:28):
Bill and Flour are not going to be sharing a room.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Bill is going to be not be appropriate. They're not married,
are they They're not.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
You're right, Bill is staying with Fred and George or yeah,
Bill is going to stay in Fred and George's room
and Flour will share with Ginny.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
Perfect.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
And it's odd to me because I guess Lupin is
staying in Bill's room, and so Lupen gets his own
room though, because.

Speaker 4 (32:54):
His Fred, George is kind of an adult.

Speaker 1 (32:57):
Well, yeah, weird if he had to share with the boys.

Speaker 4 (32:59):
Well, Bill's an adult too, his brother at least.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Yeah, Fred George, I'm sorry, DearS, but Remus is arriving tonight,
so Bill will have to squeeze in with you two. Yeah. Nice,
that Remus gets his own room.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
And then as Charlie isn't coming home, that just leaves
Harry and Ron in the attic and Flour shares with Ginny.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Perfect. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
So uh, then we actually see Flur and there's a
whole scene where they're all listening to Christmas broadcast by
Celestina Warback, and Flur seemed to find Celestina very dull.
She was talking so loudly in the corner that a
scowling Missus Wesley kept pointing her wand at the volume control,

(33:43):
so that Celestina grew louder and louder.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
I can see why.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
Celestina sure sounds amazing, Yeah exactly. Oh, come and stir
my cauldron, and if you do it right, I'll boil
you up some hot, strong love to keep you warm tonight.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Oh yes, marvelous tune when we were eighteen. Okay, remember Arthur,
how she's wiping her eyes.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
I feel like Missus Weasley is putting on a bit
of a show too, Yeah, totally.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
So Harry notices that Ron is watching Bill and Flur
across the table as though hoping to pick up tips.
So that's a little bit weird. But yeah, yes, he's
just gone together with laugh laughs. So that's why. Then
we see a few more times where Flur is rude
about Selicina Warback.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
She finishes this, she finishes, and now you've torn it
quite apart. I'll thank you ticket back by heart, Flour,
easy it over? Thank sorry? Your turn? My mad? You go?
You go? Is it over? Thank goodness? What an horrible

(35:00):
mister Weasley. Uh interrupts and gets hechnog for everybody. But
there's gonna be.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
Like, Okay, I know I'm trying to give Flor the
benefit of it out, but I do feel like she
needs to read the room of this a little bit because.

Speaker 4 (35:11):
There's a lot of times of that with her.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah yeah, because we have not just this, There's been
there's been twice now that like she's clearly, I think
to most people in the room, clearly making missus Weasley mad,
and she has not stopped. So there's gonna be a
third time now where Floir decides to imitate Celestina singing
a auldred full of hot strong glove, which was taken

(35:34):
by everyone once they had.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
Glimpsed Missus Weasley's expression to be the cue to go
to bed.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
I mean, it sounds funny to me, but yeah, I agree,
it's not the right audience.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
And it's hilarious.

Speaker 4 (35:48):
Clearly is obsessed with Celestina.

Speaker 1 (35:50):
Around and it's hilarious.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
Then to picture Flour going back to bed and having
to share a room with Ginny then and she's probably
like trying to talk to Ginny about how much she
doesn't like sell Austina, And then yeah, I feel like
it's just kind of sad because I from this perspective,
I feel like if it were anybody else, I feel
like Flour and Ginny could have fun sharing a room together.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Like yeah, and like gossiping about stuff at night.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
I think eventually they do get along, so it just
takes a while.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Yeah, and just not this year, right, So yeah?

Speaker 2 (36:26):
Then, uh, it's Christmas Day and this is sad because
Missus Weasley does not make Flora Weasley sweater. Because everybody's
wearing their new sweaters except Flur. I guess maybe this
is just Harry's interpretation and maybe Flour is being rude
and didn't wear the one she was given, But I
really don't think that's the case. Yeah, I feel like
she would have worn it, yeah, or yeah, Bill would

(36:48):
have asked her to or something like. It's kind of
weird that they all seem to like always open their present.
We've talked about this before, where they like open their
presence in their bedroom by themselves or be able to
share a bedroom with uh. And they are got such
a massive group.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
Yeah that's true.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
But yeah, they all they all come down to lunch
wearing their sweaters already like that they've already opened, right,
So we don't actually see whether missus Weasley gives her one,
but Harry's assumption is that Missus Weasley didn't want to
waste a Weasley.

Speaker 1 (37:18):
Sweater on the flour. Okay, then we have uh at
Christmas lunch.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
Harry is gets these maggots from well, she gets he
has a maggot in his hair.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
From creature and flir out aurable.

Speaker 2 (37:37):
Yes, yeah, well it's the author's favorite word to type
in the French action ron.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yes, isn't it? Gravy Flour.

Speaker 2 (37:47):
In his eagerness to help her he knocked the gravy
boat flying.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
Bill waved his wand and.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
The gravy sword up in the air and returned meekly
to the boat.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
You are as does that talks?

Speaker 3 (38:07):
Does have a way of putting her foot in her
mouth as far it's like just to make other people in.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
The room mad. Yes, I invited dear Tonks to come
along today. I like the referring to her as that talks.
We know who Tonks is at this point. Yeah, that talks.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Like how she says that when she had finished kissing
Bill and thanks.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
The whole thing is just so goofy. It's funny, Yes
it is. Oh yeah. Then Harry's glancing over at Flour,
who was now feeding Bill bits of turkey off her
own floor, because Harry's thinking about how missus Weasley would
rather have talks for a daughter in lawt He's thinking

(39:01):
that Missus Weasley is fighting a losing battle.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
And then Harry brings out Harry brings up talks his
patronis and Lupin's right there, who looked.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
Big and it had four legs.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Better to ask than Lupin the man who knew all
about patrons.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Oh, Harry, if only you knew.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
There's a lot of people better to ask than lupines.

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Actually the last person you should be asking.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
It looked big and it had for okay, So uh,
that's it.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
That's all we get from Flour at Christmas, but we
definitely were given a lot to work with.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
It is very amusing.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
So the rest of the book, we're not going to
talk about her too much until we actually get to
the post battle of Hogwarts, and this is where we're
going to finally have the Missus Weasley and her coming
together for the first time. Flour shows up at the
hospital wing with mister and Missus Weasley and it says
her beautiful face was terrified, and Missus Weasley is kind

(40:14):
of taking over the room. She's putting the ointment on
Bill and she's asking all the questions. I guess mister
Weasley is too. But Missus Weasley's talking about how he
was so handsome and he was going to be married,
and that's when Floor interrupts and you can do what
she says. It's not too funny, but at least it's

(40:36):
a French accent.

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Yeah, it'll be a French accent, so it's definitely worth
me chibing in here.

Speaker 4 (40:42):
And what do you mean by za? What do you
mean he was going to be married?

Speaker 1 (40:49):
Well done?

Speaker 2 (40:52):
And yeah, so then Flur, I actually love the way
that she like, well.

Speaker 1 (40:58):
You want to she want?

Speaker 2 (41:00):
She thinks, well, we don't need to say it out,
but like can read every line.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
But yeah, I mean that the fact that she interprets
it right away is like she can't even like imagine
the fact that missus Weasley's meaning that Flour.

Speaker 1 (41:11):
Would leave him.

Speaker 4 (41:12):
She thinks Weasley means that Bill will.

Speaker 3 (41:15):
Somehow like not want to get married.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
Now, right, because she's uh says it would take more
than a werewolf to stop Bill loving me, And so.

Speaker 1 (41:25):
Yeah, then then well yes, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
But yeah, I think that's a very endearing moment from her,
Like you said that, like it doesn't even cross her
mind that she would consider leaving for this, like right,
that's not something that's And I think that's part of.

Speaker 3 (41:42):
What makes this even more genuine, like in the reaction,
because it's not like just having the reaction to missus Weasley.
It's like she just yeah, like she totally doesn't even
understand what missus Weasley's saying exactly.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
Yeah, so they she she confronts missus Weasley basically, and
she says that all the scars show is that my
husband is brave husband.

Speaker 1 (42:08):
It's a bit presumptuous. Yeah, they're not married yet, right.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
And then missus Weasley offers the beautiful goblin Maid Tiara,
and Floor says, I'm sure that's how beautify.

Speaker 1 (42:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:21):
And then Harry is completely bewildered, wondering whether the world
had gone mad.

Speaker 1 (42:27):
He sees the two women hug girls.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
The women can't can't live with him, can't live without him?

Speaker 3 (42:35):
Can you imagine if you had to wear a goblin
maid Tiara? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (42:41):
I also just like the problematic thing about like goblin
maid to be introduced xt book. I think that that
was not something that was really on the author's spot
when she wrote this part.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yeah, I think so too. It was just at the
time like it meant more like it's like.

Speaker 3 (42:59):
An heirloom, right, yeah, like fine quality.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
Right.

Speaker 1 (43:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
So somehow these two women have reconciled, Like I, I
guess Harry's confusion is both mostly just Harry doesn't really
understand complex emotions too well. I think it's pretty clear
why this is what brings them together. Like, I don't
really know why Harry is that confused.

Speaker 3 (43:27):
Yeah, Harry just he sometimes like can't quite process as quickly.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
I think he's Yeah, he's a bit dense about stuff
like this.

Speaker 3 (43:35):
Yeah, I don't think it's a chalk it up to
him growing up with the chalk it up to him
growing up with the Dursleys.

Speaker 1 (43:41):
Yeah, you can talk most things up to that, to
be fair.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
So yeah, they're they're good now. And then we're gonna
see her a couple more times. She's talking about how
it's it's good that she will be wanting rare or
that Bill will be wanting more rare stakes because the
British overcooks him type.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
Always said this. Yeah, so she's excited as well.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
Yeah, and gin that's when Ginny says, I suppose I'm
just going to have to accept that he really is
going to marry her, and Harry she's.

Speaker 1 (44:15):
Not that bad ugly though, good one, Harry.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
And then Harry sees Bill and Flour at the funeral together.
Bill is being supported by Flur. And then last thing
we get is.

Speaker 3 (44:29):
That the I like how the funeral turns into like this,
who's who in dating?

Speaker 2 (44:35):
Like yeah, Remas and Remas and Tonks appear to be
holding hands and her he has.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
Her head on Ron's shoulder.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
Harry's with Ginny, and yeah, it's just you know, this
is this is where everybody, I mean, well Dumbledore would
like to see a little more love in the world.

Speaker 2 (44:51):
Yeah, I'm here here, so yeah. The last mention we
get a Flur then, is the the end when Harry
is reminded by Ron that they're going to have to
go back to the borough this summer for one thing,
and that's Bill and Flour's wedding, And the thought of
something so normal as a wedding was wonderful.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
Yeah, I mean, I do like that scene.

Speaker 3 (45:18):
It's funny that it's Bill and Flur like that just
seems like such a strange thing. But I think after
the fact that they've had this powerful moment with Bill
being bit by the werewolf and Flour like rallying for him,
like that makes this line a little more powerful.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
Yes, agreed.

Speaker 2 (45:34):
So yeah, that's the end of Flour in this book.
We've got one more book to talk about Flur. But
it was good to see the change in the way
everybody's seeing her, at least by the end of the book.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
Yeah, I think she's had the start of her redemption arc,
so it'll be interesting to see like everyone's perspective on.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
Her in the next book.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
Yeah, so time for us to rate her for this
book last character rating, we gave her four for heart,
two for humor, three for uniqueness, and two for depth,
which definitely I think humor has definitely gone up.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
Yeah, there was.

Speaker 3 (46:11):
A lot more funny moments and she was at times
intentionally funny.

Speaker 1 (46:17):
Yeah, totally intentionally shady.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
I also feel like, I mean, we already gave her
a four for heart, but like, honestly, I think like
we could go up to a five because we've seen
this depth with Bill and like some of it heart
to me just means like that they kind of wear
their heart on their sleeve. And I think that that
is definitely flur like she's not hiding her emotions, no, Yeah,
I when it's not necessarily always amazing things.

Speaker 1 (46:43):
Yeah, I agree, I think warback.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
Yeah, I mean, that's not why I would give her
five stars for heart, but yeah, you're right that that
is part of it so well.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
And I think I think sometimes people might think that
that would give her, like dock her a couple of points,
but it's more like, to me that because because she's
not being super nice, but it's almost like she's just
so genuine that she can't.

Speaker 1 (47:04):
Have her true feelings. Yeah, I like that. I think
that's accurate. So five for heart probably I would go
up to four for humor. What do you think?

Speaker 2 (47:14):
Yeah, I mean we had a lot of laws on
the conversation exactly. And then I think just maybe keep
it three and two for uniqueness and depth.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
I mean she got a little bit of depth at it.
I think we go to a three for depth. Oh yeah,
that's fair.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Yeah, so she's getting a pretty high score to Yeah,
she is, well maybe being too much a flir apologist
at this point, but no, I really like her and
Bill's relationship, and I like the kind of different side
of like Harry actually kind of getting things a little
bit more than her mind he does.

Speaker 3 (47:49):
Well, and I think it is kind of challenging the
notion of like, what is a strong woman? Yes, because
we've had that issue in the books I think prior
to this of Hermione being a really good strong female character,
and same with Ginny being a really good strong female character.
But they're kind of in the category of like we're

(48:12):
not like those pretty girls, right exactly, and now it's
like we're more like the boys. And so now it's like, Okay,
now we're seeing a range of the female characters by
having flour in there. Yeah, exactly, a strong female character
who also happens to be really pretty.

Speaker 1 (48:28):
Yeah, exactly. I agree.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
I think that that's I mean, I think maybe next
book we'll move that unique discreativity up even more. Yeah,
because she does stand out as being different compared to
other women in the series. Right, all right, Well, we
have one more character study, I'm sorry, one more Flouruter study,

(48:51):
one more yes, one more character study to come out.

Speaker 1 (48:55):
But who knows.

Speaker 2 (48:57):
Like I said last week, we may or may not
be recording to Take five this week, so there's always
a possibility.

Speaker 1 (49:02):
There's always a possibility we won't. Exactly.

Speaker 2 (49:06):
We've only canceled this one like five times, so.

Speaker 3 (49:11):
So probably Tim's schedule is opening up now, so we'll
see about.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
That, right, supposedly supposedly, but yeah, so we'll be back
next week with either a Take five or the final
Characlar study one or the other. We'll see and make
