the Arizona Cardinals and the NFL, featuring insider and outsider perspectives.
Enjoy the best hour of Cardinals Talk on the web.
Now Here are your hosts, Jess Root and Seth Cox.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Where's it a Cardinals fans and welcome to the latest
edition of the Rise Up Sea Red Podcast, the best
star of Cardinals Talk on the Web. I'm your host
Jess Root from Cardswire dot com. You was hey today's
NFL wire site. And with me is my co host
from Revenge of the Birds dot com sp Nations Ariazona
Cardinals site, Seth Cox. And after about a week off
because the Cardinals had their bye, we didn't have any

(00:55):
game to review, we did our report card, our midseason
report card last week at episode seven and fourteen. As
we get to preview Cardinals versus Cowboys on Monday Nights
Football in week nine. For what might be the only
show this week is I've not been able to nail
down a time with Katie Drummond from Cowboys Wire. I
reached out to Marcus Mosher who runs the Locked On

(01:17):
Cowboys podcast. Haven't heard from him yet, so it might
be just a single show for this week, and you know,
coming off the bye week, we have some good news, seth.
We have some good news injury wise. Kyler's practicing and
while the team is, you know, playing some games with

(01:38):
the injury situation. Adam Schefter has reported multiple times that
Kyler is preparing to be the starter, that the Cardinals
are preparing him to start. Jonathan Gandon said on Thursday,
when asked, are you preparing Kyler to start? He said yes,
And while they were coy and they're like, they pushed
the quarterback ability availability for the media till tomorrow, I

(02:03):
think till Friday, and wouldn't announce who it was. Originally
Kyler was scheduled to talk to the media. So they're
just playing a little bit of games. Unless on less
during practice he aggravated something and so if that's the possibility,
then then that might be true and I will leave
the door open for that. But in other news, Garrett

(02:25):
Williams appears to be coming back. They cut Darren Hall,
they cut Michael Carter, though Michael Carter will probably be
elevated this week because they only have two running backs
on the roster. But Garrett Williams was designated to return
from i R. That'll be a big help as the
Cardinals probably will have their full cornerback starters with Max

(02:48):
and Will Johnson and Garrett Williams to go against Dallas's receivers.
B Joe Jilauri returned to practice for the first time
in a year and a half. And so, yeah, Walter
Nolan is I don't think Walter Nolan will get activated
this week. He'll probably have be reinstated next week, but

(03:10):
who knows. So what we are seeing a trend towards
health set.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Yeah, and that's the hope, right. Even even Walter Nolan
sounded a little bit like he was ready to go,
doesn't mean he is right, but he thinks he might
be ready to go.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
And so.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
That's a you know, that's a nice if you look
at it from this perspective. It's a nice mid season
set of additions, right, you get and I know people
love what Johnson. He's been playing really well. So I
don't want this to be taking the wrong way. But
you get your best corner back and now you get

(03:58):
potentially two pass rushers. And and one of the things
we've discussed ad nauseum is how about the past rush
has been especially late in games, and and it's latantly
unfair something you and I have talked about four years
to expect anything much of a of a first year

(04:19):
interior defensive linement. It's not something that you see.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
From a uh, especially missing all of training camps, like
Walter Nolan's rookie year was basically washed up with that
calf injury. But but maybe it's a young athletic body
who might add a little something statistical.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
But even if it's I was thinking about this, just
like what if he's the guy that comes out and
gives you pressures in the fourth quarter that makes makes
quarterbacks a little more uncomfortable in the fourth quarter, something
we just haven't scene at all. Right, We've we've talked

(05:02):
about it way too much. But like maybe he gives
you a little something.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
More, right, because you've talked about how their past rush
win rate is pretty all right, but their pressure rate
and their sack rate is bad.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
So and so you know, you look at it from
that perspective, maybe that maybe he gives you just a
little bit more juice, right, And you can look at
it from that perspective. But like it's interesting to see,
you know, these guys getting healthy at what we would

(05:40):
say is the right time, right and so, and then
and then on top of that, like you mentioned h
b j O Jalari, you know that's that's another big one.
We'll see how that goes. If you get anything at all,
it's a plus at this point. Would you not.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Agree absolutely, because like we talked about that the off season,
that that Ojelari became like a person of Nongrada, like
they completely like that, are there all their off season moves.
Whereas if he didn't exist as opposed to a year
ago when they were entering twenty twenty four, they were
banking on him being their best pass rusher, and they

(06:21):
went out lash this this last off season. They got
Josh Sweat, they drafted Jordan Birch, they reassigned Baron Browning,
they traded for Baron Browning, and so basically they moved
on without Ojilari. And if he gives you something, that'll
be nice, especially as if if he flashes it all
because he does have that ability, yeah, and.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
That would be great for him. And so you know,
getting anything from him would be just completely ideal but
obviously completely unexpected, like nobody at all thinks it's going
to happen, and that's not a shot, right, Like, we're

(07:05):
not saying that to be negative. We're just saying that
to be realistic. Like a guy that you know hasn't
played since January of twenty twenty four, now he is
expected to help, Like, come on, guys, it's not fair.
So yeah, in the scheme of additions, they're two underwhelming

(07:30):
additions from the sake of you know what to expect
from them this year. But who knows, maybe they can,
like we said, give a little juice to an an
off or a defense that is undoubtedly, unquestionably the worst
in the NFL in the fourth quarter for sure, and

(07:54):
so you know, so maybe this will be the change
that that moves them forward.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Well, and for me, I love the idea of getting
Garrett Williams back for this game because while while Max
has been fine and will Johnson's been pretty good this year,
it will move Jalen Thomson out of the slot. While
JT can play the slot. You're you're not you definitely

(08:27):
can't bear great from me, and Garrett Williams is a
clear upgrade to him, which pushes JT back in just
to one role and then you get the three cornerbacks
on the field again without having to you know, play
guys like Kee, Trell Clark and Denzel Burke. It's just
it's gonna be helpful. And if you think about it,

(08:50):
like that Carolina game that they almost fell apart in,
you know, they were missing for the next couple of games.
They were missing Garrett, they were missing Will Johnson. And
so those two games where they didn't give up the lead,
barely held onto it, they had every They had a

(09:11):
full strength secondary for the first game and a half.
And so that'll be good. But let's talk about the
Dallas Cowboys, who are I will say this is this
is a critical game for the Cardinals because and I
said this on the radio when I was on AM
ten sixty for the last couple of weeks that you know,

(09:32):
as bad as the Cardinals are in right now, the
two and five, you know, big picture, they're going to
have to go eight and two to make the postseason
if there's any hope. But at the same time, their
five losses were to by a total of thirteen points,
which means they're not there are a few plays from
being seven and zero. We just know that That's what
makes them not a good team is the fact they
keep losing those games. But at the same time, this game,

(09:55):
if they win this game, there will be the ever
be such a slipper of hope. If they somehow win
their next three games and they head into week twelve
now five and five, then you can kind of talk
build some momentum. Now it's crazy to talk about a

(10:17):
team winning three games in a row that has lost
five straight and that, but that starts with the Cowboys,
and the Cowboys are kind of in the same situation
as the Cardinals, desperate, but for different reasons. Let's talk
about this Cowboys team. An odd Cowboys team in the
fact that they are one of the very best offenses
absolutely in the NFL. They average over thirty points a game.

(10:39):
They are second in points, They're second in yards. They
have the number one passing attack. Dak Prescott is number
four in receiving yards. George Pickens is third or fourth
and receiving in passing yards, Dak Prescott third or fourth
in receiving yards George Pickens Javonte Williams is in the
top five in rushing yards. They they move the ball

(11:01):
extremely well, and they score points, but their defense.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
Is so so bad.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
They give up an average of thirty one point three
points a game and an average of four hundred and
five yards a game. Let's remember that. So that is
the average, that's what they are averaging. Through seven eight games.
The Cardinals' best offensive performance has been twenty seven points
last against, well, twenty seven points and four hundred yards

(11:35):
on the nose, and the Cowboys allow more than that
on average. And so the Cowboys are such a dichotomy
because their defense is so so bad, but they are
so dangerous offensively. And that's going to be an interesting
thing for the Cardinals because playing against a bad defense, well,

(11:57):
that's good for the Cardinals offense that has been very
up and down. However, their defense, especially in the fourth quarter,
they are going to struggle against this Dallas offense.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
Yeah, and the reality becomes that this this Dallas offense
is you know, an elite, elite passing offense, and they're
a terrible, terrible, just defense overall. You mentioned it, thirty

(12:32):
first in points against, right, thirty first in the yards against.
They've allowed the most first downs in the NFL this year.
They're twenty second in turnovers, which is not good. They're
They are twenty ninth in rushing yards allowed and thirty

(12:56):
first in passing yards allowed. This team gives up yards
in massive, massive chunks. And you look at the season, right,
their lowest yardage allowed totals three hundred and two in
their opening game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Since then,

(13:22):
five hundred and six, four hundred and eighty nine, four
hundred and ten, four hundred and twenty six. Those are
just the four hundred plus games. They are a miserable
defensive team, just miserable. And yet they are three four

(13:48):
and one, and you look at their losses. They lost
at Philadelphia, they lost at Chicago, Go, they lost at Carolina,
and they lost at Denver. They're one in four on

(14:12):
the road. They are three three and one, thank you,
thank you, three to oh and one. At home. They
are a terrible defensive team at home, but their offense

(14:34):
at home is otherworldly. I mean, you look at the numbers.
Just four hundred and seventy eight yards four hundred and
thirty scored in all three of their home games. Yeah,
four hundred and thirty six yards and four hundred and

(14:57):
nine yards over four hundred yards a game. Now again
to be fair, they gave up four hundred or five
hundred and six and four hundred and eighty nine in
two of those games. The only game that they were decent,
and that's very that's a very extreme decent was against

(15:21):
the Washington Commander Skins, and that was the game that
Jadan Daniels had to leave early. And so this is
a team that their record is accurate, all the stats

(15:42):
are accurate. Like, this isn't the Cardinals where you're like,
like you said, like, oh, they're you know, there're three
plays away from being five and two or you know,
seven plays away from being seven and h Like you
look at this team and you're like, this team is
uns on the road and they are the best offense

(16:07):
in football at home. And it is a prime time
game at home for the Dallas Cowboys against the Cardinals
defense that before, before anybody else other than the Rise

(16:29):
Up Sea Red podcast talked about, it was twenty second
in yards allowed. Again, not even a top twenty in
yardage defense, by the way, they're top twenty in yardage now,

(16:55):
but they went from third in points per game allowed
to teemh.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
And we know the story of the fourth quarter. They've
allowed seventy six fourth quarter points in seven games and
seventy seven points in the other three quarters of their
seven games.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Yeah, and so you look at this game, this is
this is prime territory for two different things. A blowout
for the Cowboys or one of those epic shootout games

(17:38):
where it's just a lot of fun to watch. Yeah,
I think I think we're praying, praying to see the
ladder because the former would just be disappointing, but it
would be on brand for the Cowboys to go ahead,

(17:59):
put up fourty two, puled the Cardinals to twenty eight
and four hundred plus yards of offense, you know, four
hundred and fifteen yards, twenty eight points, and went forty
two to twenty eight, right, and everybody's like, wow, I
guess the offense was a little better, right, right, right.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
In fairness, though they gave up thirty seven to the Giants,
they gave up forty to the Packers, and it was
just the twenty two they gave up to Washington in
those in those three home games. But they just pick up.
They pile up yards and first downs. Dak Prescott his
one hundred first down completions for first down lead the NFL.
Javonte Williams thirty four rushes for first downs lead the NFL.

(18:48):
Javonte Williams has been fantastic. He's finally it looks like
he finally found the right spot. After his rookie year.
He looked so good till he got has got hurt
and just hadn't come back to that. Javonte Williams has
been great.

Speaker 4 (19:02):
You know.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
George Pickens has been fantastic, and now they got Ceedee
Lamb back, and so that is the You got Pickens,
Lamb and Jake Ferguson talk about a trio of pass catchers. Yeah, geez,

(19:24):
George Pickens with with forty three catches six five yards
and six touchdowns and then in the five games seed
he's got twenty eight for four h six. That is
going to be I'm very interested to see how the
secondary holds up against these guys, because all three of them, Pickens, Lamb,

(19:45):
and Ferguson are producing a lot. Ferguson's got fifty one
cat now. Granted. Jake Ferguson right now is on the
like the twenty twenty three is the twenty twenty three
zach Ertz rate where he's averaging six yards to catch,
but he's got he's got fifty one catches and six touchdowns.

(20:06):
And then CD's average like both Pickens and CD big
big plays. Uh, CD's averaging fourteen and a half a catch,
Pickens fifteen point nine to catch. They're just they're just
doing everything really well offensively. And here's the thing. Dak
Prescott sixteen touchdowns only five interceptions in in the eight

(20:27):
games that they've played. That is you know, that's pacing
for thirty four touchdown passes to ten interceptions. That's a
great he's had. He's having a fantastic year. Oh and
and watch this, he's only been sacked ten times in
eight games. So yeah, ess what the Cardinals, Oh my gosh,

(20:47):
what are the Cars going to do defensively against that?

Speaker 4 (20:50):
I know, and think about this, just you know, you
look at you look at what the Cowboys are doing
and their offense, and it's the fact that, like you said,
outside of the game against the Commanders, it's mirrored as

(21:14):
poorly on their defense is kind of wild, right, Like
it's it's crazy to think that they're having that much
success offensively, but they're that bad defensively. And and a
lot of it comes down to, you know, obviously, the
first thing you get rid of the best player defensively

(21:37):
in the NFL, you're gonna have, you gonna have some issues,
right right, So that's you know, that is what it is.
But their offense, how do you know you mentioned it,
how do you stop them? Like what what do you do?
And and you look at this season specifically for Dak, right,

(22:00):
you know, his he's he's not exactly just like hucking
the ball downfield, but he's he's getting a lot of
big plays after the catch. So Brian Schottenheimer's doing a
really really nice job of scheming things up. You know,

(22:23):
you look at it this year, his a dot is
not you know, it's actually the lowest of his career,
which is kind of crazy to think about. Right. You
just rattled off all those insane you know, fifteen point nine,
fourteen point five something something named Ryan Flourny has thirteen
point three, Cavante Turpin thirteen point four, Jalen Tolbert twelve

(22:46):
point three. Those are all what they're averaging yards per reception.
But Dak's a dot's the lowest of his career seven
point six yards. The only time it was lower was
in twenty eighteen. I mean, this is a guy that
can say distant. Lee is eight and a half yards
per attempt, so he's he's nearly a yard lower. But

(23:09):
but it doesn't matter because those those schemes and what's
working and getting open. He's creating yards after the catch.
And and you mentioned it, George Pickens is the perfect
foil to CD Lamb like it is created one of,
if not the best one two punches in the NFL

(23:30):
wide receiver. And they're just they're so dynamic together. And
then you add, you know, you sprinkle in a Cavante Turpin,
who is this, you know, elite track guy. You have
a guy like Ryan Florny who just comes out of
nowhere right and it is producing. And then you have
a really really solid, you know, obviously not a Trade

(23:53):
McBride level, but a really solid tight end. And Jake Ferguson,
who yardage wise is their number three guy. I mean,
their top three guys combined have over fourteen hundred yards
receiving already just and so I mean the Cardinals top
three don't even have a thousand between the three of them,

(24:13):
and so it's just one of those those situations that
you look.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
At Cardinals don't even have fourteen hundred passing yards as
a team.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
Right, And so you look at it, right, and it's
just this is a this is a dynamic and diverse offense.
You mentioned Javonte Williams. I mean, how how cool is
it for him to be having the success after just
what was an unfortunately terrible career, after a solid, not spectacular,

(24:49):
but solid rookie season, and he just he just was
a bust after that, right, he had the injury, came back,
was never the same guy. And now you know, two
years or two technically three years removed from the injury,
looks like he's he's that guy again. He needs more
dynamic and explosive most yards per attempt in his career

(25:10):
over five yards per Kerry, you know, already the most
rushing touchdowns in his career. Just I mean, this is
a guy that came in with eleven career rushing touchdowns.
He's got eight already. And so you look at you
look at the offense. You mentioned the offensive line. This
is this is the best offense that they've played all season.

(25:37):
And they're not healthy yet. So it's not it's not
so much that they can't do it. It's just that
you know, they're still they haven't shown the tendency to
be able to make plays consistently and as we mentioned
more importantly, get off the bield consistently, especially in the

(25:57):
fourth quarter. But this is an offense going to stress
you for an entire game. You know, the Cardinals have
not allowed a four hundred yard game. The most yards
they've allowed in a game the season was three d
and eighty four to the Seattle Seahawks. You know, but
you look at you look at the two games that

(26:18):
the kind of give you pause, and in their Seattle
in Indianapolis, right, and and what were those games? What
were both teams able to do in those games? They
were really just able to control things on the ground
and control and control the line of scrimmage to the

(26:38):
point where a middling pass rush was now inept. And
so that's what the question becomes for for this team
this year is you know, can they can they stand
up to you know, probably, I mean, would you not

(27:01):
agree probably the best offense in the NFL this season.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
I mean from top to bottom. Yes, Like I guess
Indy is technically, but they're getting elite elite, elite play
from Jonathan Taylor and Daniel Jones' play. But the fact
that the that the Cowboys get it from four different players,
I think it's it's much better. Well that and the

(27:28):
truth is you can trust Dak Prescott, and Dak Prescott
is having one of his finest seasons. Yeah, And you know,
say what you want about Dak Prescott, he is he's
playing elite level quarterback playing right now. He's he's quarterbacking
at an elite level right now. It's just it looks

(27:49):
too easy, too easy, And then you look defensively, they
don't rush the passer, well, they only have two more
sacks and the Cardinals do, but they do it a
little bit differently that the Cowboys have fourteen sacks as
a team, but they have won two, three, four, five, six,

(28:09):
seventy eight, nine, ten, eleven players who have sacks, while
the Cardinals have three players in Josh Sweet, Kalayas Campbell,
and Baron Browning who have ten of the twelve sacks
as a team, and they get quarterback hits from from

(28:31):
all over. They're not particularly good at rushing the passer,
and they're not particularly good at stopping the run. They
in terms of fantasy, I believe quarterbacks average nearly twenty
four fantasy points against them a week, kind of like

(28:52):
whoever the quarterback is, if you've got them on your
fantasy team, you play them. They're also they also give
up a lot of running back fantasy points. So if
you're into fantasy, Bam Knight might not be a bad
start this week considering the role that he has. And
you know what the Cowboys do, So they're They're not
particularly good defensively at any one thing. They do get

(29:22):
turnovers consistently. They forced at least one turnover in five
street games and in six of their last seven, and
and their their blowout win that they had over Washington
was with with two takeaways. And at the same time,
they have taken care of the ball in their In

(29:45):
their three home games, they've only turned the ball over once.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, and that's again what makes them, you know, kind
of unique and special this year is that their offense
really takes care of the ball. But it's also the
the interesting part of football, right, Like, I know, they're
technically one game better than the Arizona Cardinals at three
four and one, but isn't it interesting that the best

(30:16):
offense in the NFL and what has been considered a middling,
if not underwhelming offense and the Cardinals and and the
results are are I don't want to say nearly the same,
but the results are you know, close in terms. I mean,
the Cardinals win this game. They're technically ahead of the

(30:40):
Cowboys in the playoff standings, right, And so you look
at that and you just go, how does that even
make sense? Like, how do you have the best offense
in the NFL? You have the best, right And so
that's the thing is like complimentary football is something you
and I have talked about so much this year. They
just they lack that complimentary football. They lack any semblance

(31:04):
of it. Their offense, you know, carries them and their
defense just let's lets them down all game as opposed
to just in one quarter.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
That's crazy, that really is crazy. Let's let's look more
specific at the matchup for this same So coming on
next in the RESI of Serre podcast Best Our Cardinals
talking the one let's look at the matchups, the keys
that the Cardinals need to make to have win this
game is coming to next in Receps Red, we're back
on the res of here podcast Best Our Cardinals Stock
on the wepisode seven fourteen, talking about our Cardinals Cowboys

(31:37):
Week nine preview. I think I guess Matt Keys wise,
I don't know how much we can lean on the
defense in terms of Keys. I think if there's one
thing defensively saying they need to create one turnover and
get one other stop, they need to stop the Cowboy

(32:00):
ways at least twice. And then offensively, they just have
to they have to do what other teams have done
against the Cowboys. They they can't afford against this count
Dallas team to have really any offensive hiccups.

Speaker 4 (32:21):
No, and you look at it, there's a couple of
things to that, right. The first thing being, as you said,
they have to they have to come out and and
match up offensively. They have to come out and be
able to run the ball against you know, one of
the worst rushing defenses in the NFL. And the reason

(32:43):
I stress the run to begin with is because they
have to be able to control the clock. I mean,
you want to take away i'm a possession from the
Cowboys because the more they have the ball, the more
success they're going to continue to have. You know, again
twenty nine in yards allowed rushing though in yards per
attempt chess, so they're averaging almost five yards per carry

(33:06):
given up. They've allowed seventy seven first downs rushing. So
they've got to figure out a way. The Cardinals that
is to have a not just competent, but good rushing
attack this week.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
Now that's gonna be hard, I mean, because if you
get Kyler back in the lineup, they can't go back
to playing calls, calling plays the way they did when
they had James Connor and and Trey Benson in the lineup.
Drew Pensing would be stupid to do that. I think
they have to put I think they need to. They

(33:46):
can't lean on the road. They have to be able
to run the ball, but they can't make that the focus.

Speaker 4 (33:57):
So right, that makes sense, right, but they also from there, right,
the next thing is they have to be able to
come out and attack these these poor uh Dallas cornerbacks.
Uh Deron Bland is having a fine years. He's clearly
their best guy. But after that, it's it's bad.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
To abysmal Ready steward good cross the board because they're
the Dallas eye. Discipline is bat like. You can you
can throw the ball to the running backs and and
like Trey McBride and Elijah Higgins should have should have passing,
should have the open all game. Yeah, just everywhere the

(34:43):
passing game. Get guys there, because yeah, Dallas is just
bad across the board. They're they're bad tackling. They they
they don't cover well and they have bad I discipline too.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Yeah, and so you look at it, I mean, and
and then like you said, they don't actually rush the
passer very well. They're their best pass rusher this year
is is Dante Fowler Junior, a guy we're familiar with,
you know from his time with the Rams. Donovan a
resu Rouque is having a you know, fine rookie season,

(35:15):
but it's not like he's a world beater. Uh. Jadeveon
Clowney's there now, and he's again he's Jadavian Clowney, right like,
And so, like you said, they get a lot from
a lot of different guys, but they just don't have
anybody that's you know, Kenny Clark's been mostly a bust

(35:35):
of course I say that, and he'll probably have four
sacks in a game, right But and and so you
look at it, and you have a lot of opportunities,
as you said, because they're corners. You know, I talk
about this all the time there. Their corners are fourth

(35:58):
and fifth in tackling on the team. It's not ideal.
It's not an ideal scenario to have your corners that high.
It's something you know, I talk about all the time
with like the safeties, right, like the Cardinals safeties unless
unless it's Buddha Baker and he's playing a lot in
the box, you know, Buddha Baker, Jalen Thompson and then

(36:20):
especially Rabbit having so many tackles not ideal because it
just means you're not making plays at the line of
scrimmage like you need to be. The Cowboys are basically
worse than that, right, And so those are situations that
you look at and you go, okay, that that's stuff
that you should be able to take advantage of. That's

(36:42):
those are things that you should be able to to really,
you know, make plays on. And then you look at
other stats you mentioned. You know, the guys that are there,
they have four interceptions on the season four. But just
that's not the that's not the appalling thing. Donovan Wilson,

(37:06):
who is a journeyman safety and I don't mean that
in a negative way by any means, but you know
it's your journeyman safety. He leads the team in passes
defense with three by the way, Jess. Their top corner

(37:29):
is somebody I literally have never heard of, Trickuizy Bridges.
I'm not making that up. That's that's his name. By
the way, Jess. He plays, He's played twenty three percent
of the snaps. He has two passes defense. Their their

(37:50):
defensive ends. Thirty two year old Jenavian Clowney and thirty
one year old Dante Fowler are next with two passes
defense each. Like their corners don't make the ball.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Well right, right, They've got two four six, two, four, five, six, seven.
Seven of the team's seventeen pass breakups are from guys
who play on the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (38:23):
Right, And so you look at that, that's just you know,
they're just not They're just not a really good team.
And so, like you said, they can't stop the run.
The Cardinals rushing attack without Trey Benson and James Connor
hasn't been overly effective. Now, to be fair, they did

(38:45):
gain one hundred and what forty six yards against one
hundred and sixty eight. Sorry against the Tennessee Titans. Should
have been one sixty nine by the way, but.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Yes, yes it should have been.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
But but to your point, you know, that's that's neither
here nor there. They have to be able to throw
the ball consistently and effectively.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (39:11):
That means being able to attack all levels of the
field and make plays on the ball. And they have
to get a big game from their passing attack. That
allows them to really you know, open things up. But
the bigger thing is it allows them to control the clock.

(39:32):
And I know you don't usually look at that from
the passing game, but but if you're able to just
continue to get enough to get first downs. And I
know fans don't want to hear this, right, Like if
it's screens, whatever whatever it is, to like move the
chains and hold on to the football, that's not a
bad thing this week because the biggest, the biggest matchup,

(39:54):
Jess and you you hinted at it is can this
defense blow down not stop because they will not stop,
But can they slow down this Dallas Cowboys offense? And
I mean the natural inclination and the reality is to

(40:15):
say no, right, So they need more than ever. They
need this the complimentary football we've talked about in the offense,
as they have done all season. The offense has to
control the time of possession because if you mitigate the

(40:37):
possessions from the Cowboys, even if they're scoring a lot,
or or they're scoring on fifty percent of their possessions,
which they do, you maybe at home for the first time,
you hold them under forty maybe even thirty five, right,
and you give yourself a chance against this abysmal defense

(41:00):
to win the game.

Speaker 3 (41:04):
Wow matchups in particular, we've we've talked about the cornerbacks
against the receivers, however they line up. But here's a
here's a lower key one. I think it's going to
be really important because the Dallas offensive line right now
is good, but they do have one position where you

(41:24):
can look at it as being slightly deficient, and that's
because Cooper Beebe is out and so they got brock
Hoffman uh starting at center. Tyler Booker, remember the guy
that we had. We weren't exactly thrilled about the Cardinals
potential drafting. Tyler Booker's been good. They're at right guard
Tyler Smith, left guard Tyler Geid and tern Steele. Those

(41:45):
guys that that offensive line is good. So, but they're
they're at center, brock Hoffman, we need someone on the interior,
whether it's Kalayis or Darius Robinson, Dalvin Tomlinson to to
dominate or to win more often than not against the

(42:08):
weakest part of that Dallas offensive line.

Speaker 4 (42:13):
Yeah, and and while Booker has been good, he's been
really good in the run game, he's he has struggled
in past protection. And so that's kind of where you
have to look at it as that interior offensive line

(42:35):
is susceptible to giving up pressures, not necessarily sacks. As
you said, Dak has been excellent at mitigating that. But
they're there, you're able to create pressures on them. But again,
this defense hasn't consistently gotten pressures and even worse, they're terrible.

(42:59):
It can pressures to sacks. So how do you make
plays and get big plays out of out of this
team and win in that direction? That would be you know,
ideal to see this week. The other thing is, you know,
if you have Garrett Williams, is he gonna follow Cede
Lamb around when he's in the slot, And then do

(43:22):
you just have will Johnson go against George Pickens or
do you let Max and Will share duties? Those are
Those are all legitimate questions for the defense and not
any that I can answer because I genuinely am like,
I have no idea, man like, it's tough. But but

(43:43):
the other thing is, and we mentioned it, they have
to be able to stop Travonte Williams have to like
if they're just if if you can't slow down Dak
and nobody has all season, So I don't want it
to be like, oh they're the only ones. No, no, uh,
if you can't slow down on doc you have to
at least and you know, take the running of the

(44:04):
rushing attack for the Cowboys out of it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Cover to next on the resis here podcasts or Cardinals
Talk on the Web. Let's move on. Let's talk about
the props, the picks and predictions that we've got. Let's
cover to nex on recips you read. We're back on
the rest of here podcasts are Cardinals Talk on the
Web And the final segment of the show is where
we like to make our predictions and give you some
betting advice. Although the betting advice will be a little
bit lean because there aren't a lot of props, at

(44:36):
least for the cards. They're not. But in terms of
picks and predictions, now, if we want to know what
the public is thinking, the public is backing the Cowboys
in droves. According to according to the numbers from bet MGM,
eighty eight percent of the public are backing the Cowboys

(44:59):
to win straight up. Eighty nine percent of the spread
bets the Cowboys are two and a half point favorites.
Eighty nine percent of the handle are backing the Cowboys
to cover. And this is, you know, somewhat more understandable.
Sixty three percent have the over. Now, granted the project

(45:21):
it's high at fifty three and a half, but sixty
three percent say we're going to hit the over, which
at least that is understandable. It's interesting is that in
terms of the odds, the spread that's set. Interesting that
a team like the Cowboys against a team like the
Cardinals isn't even getting three full points, which means there

(45:44):
is some trepidation about this Dallas team, especially defensively. So
while the public is heavily backing the Cowboys, the fact
that the line is only two and a half points
suggests that this is these two teams are far more
evenly matched than the public would believed it to be.

Speaker 4 (46:10):
Yeah, I mean that's the hard part is that you
look at it and they're just there's not a lot
of there's just not a lot of data to show
that the owner is going to hit, which you know,
when you look at it from that perspective, right, you're

(46:30):
always like, oh, the over is going to cash so easily.
I mean, the Cowboys are averaging forty points a game
at home, so they only the Cardinals just need to
pitch in two touchdowns and they give up thirty points
a game. That's seventy, so fifty three and a half.
And so that's where you end up going, how did this?
How did this not even get to forty five points total? Right,

(46:52):
Like you're like, what happened? But man, two and a
half is an inch line?

Speaker 1 (47:03):
Is that just.

Speaker 4 (47:06):
Vegas going? I don't know what to make of this
Cardinals team and their their losses are thirteen total points.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
Yeah, I think that that impacts it. And so what
do I expect for this game coming off the buye.
I'd like to think the car like I'd like to
predict the Cardinals win. I can't predict the Cardinals win.
There's nothing about this team that says they're gonna win.
But DUEX beect this game to be wild. I believe so,

(47:34):
and so I think this game and if we're gonna
keep going with the trends, I'm gonna say this Cowboys
win this game thirty seven thirty four on a either
a game winning touchdown or field goal in the final
minute of the game. They have the ball last and
win the game. And it's more of the same, just
in a different way.

Speaker 4 (47:54):
Yeah, I think the Cowboys win this one. I'm gonna
go with kind of what I said. I think it's
gonna be like, you know, thirty eight twenty eight type
of game where the Cardinals offense, you know, finally clicks,
so to speak with Kyler, but their defense is just
you know that that offense at home is just humming,

(48:16):
and so that's the kind of result you get, you know.
I look at this game, and and again there's not,
like like just said, there's not a lot of props
to bet right now, but there are there are a
couple that are interesting. There's touchdown scores. Dravonte Williams anytime
touchdown is not worth you know anything Ceedee lamb touchdown

(48:39):
score is not worth anything. But when you put them
together and you throw in George Pickens, you get plus
nine hundred And I know you're thinking three different guys,
but yeah, I mean those guys all are going to
have a lot of chances. I do like Dravonte Williams
is the first touchdown score of the game. Thought, plus

(49:00):
five fifty those that's really an interesting one to me
because that's a pretty big number for a guy that
scores all the time.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
All right, And I'd say I don't have it for
betam GM, so they don't have the scoring props. But
two plus touchdowns give me DeVante Williams on that. Do
they have that one for FanDuel?

Speaker 4 (49:21):
Yeah? Plus four forty So not great odds, but not
bad odds. That's a good one. Jess. Are you taking
the over or under for dak in this one? Two
sixty four and a half? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (49:37):
I like the over for this one. I just they
haven't stopped anyone.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:48):
And it's interesting because they've got different lines here. For Wow,
betan GM has some weird lines because they're all the
same lines. They've got that that price can't be right
let me he refresh that because they had to four
and a half, two seventy a half and two seventy
one and a half but all the same oddsp so
it just updated, So two sixty eight and a half.

(50:10):
So yeah, go with go a fando with the two
sixty four and a half. Two sixty eight and a
half I think is here. Here's the crazy thing on
alternate On the alternate passing yards at two point fifty,
both Kyler and Dak Prescott are It's one minus one
sixty five for Dak and minus one thirty five for Kyler.

(50:31):
So the odds maker see this, see this being a
quarterback shootout in terms of that, and then touchdowns over
one and a half. Touchdown passes for Kyler is minus
one fifty five and minus two twenty five for Dak,
and interceptions thrown night the odds suggest no one expects

(50:55):
interceptions from either quarterback and it's over half. An interception
is plus one oh five for both players. So yeah,
you know, I actually kind of like Cardinals have been
pretty good about getting their hands on one a game.
I want to say, give me one Dak interception at
the over half interception at plus one oh five, But yeah,

(51:18):
I say take the over on Dak's passing yards.

Speaker 2 (51:22):
And then.

Speaker 3 (51:24):
The one that I that I love is that they're
given us great Chad Ryland props both for field goals
over one and a half field goals is plus one
oh five and over two and a half extra points
at plus one oh five based on my prediction of

(51:45):
thirty seven thirty four, that that gives you both two
field goals and four extra points.

Speaker 4 (51:52):
And so.

Speaker 3 (51:54):
My prediction says the Cardinals that that he will get
both of those plus odd props. That is, with the
twenty eight points for the for the Cardinals, you're looking
more at going for the over extra points as opposed
to the field goals.

Speaker 4 (52:12):
Yeah, and you know, I could see definitely a scenario
where it's twenty seven or even like thirty right, and
you get the three. So it's one of those games
where I think, especially you know Ryland and Aubrey, if
you can get both of them at plus money, it's

(52:34):
really interesting. And the other thing is with the Cowboys
past defense, the interception thing, to your point, it just
doesn't make any sense. And I'm not saying it's not
going to happen, because you know, interceptions happen all the time,

(52:55):
but I mean, they don't create overs, so it's just
it's interesting to see. The last one I want to
talk about was was the longest pass take the over
for Dak thirty seven and a half. I think they

(53:15):
complete at least one big one over.

Speaker 3 (53:19):
Forty Yeah, that makes sense, that makes sense. The rushing
props the Cardinals just squeaked in and so if you
like Zonovian or Bam, you can get him an over
fifty five and a half yards, I think. I think
I like that though, though. What I love is laddering

(53:40):
javonteate over sixty four and a half and then taking
the alternate rushing yards of seventy five plus at plus
one forty. I think those two numbers are are easy.
And I don't know about the plus of the hundred plus,
but if you want to ladder it up there just
for fun, it is plus three eighty. But I think
a lot Javonte with at least sixty five and at

(54:01):
least seventy five yards.

Speaker 4 (54:03):
Yeah, I would agree with that. I think he's going
to hit seventy five plus in this one. I just
don't see the Cardinals stopping this offense. Enough to justify.
So I would genuinely take and I know it's easy
to say it, but like I would genuinely just take
all the overs on all the Cowboys offensive props like

(54:26):
that's that's genuinely how I would feel looking at this.

Speaker 3 (54:31):
And we now have some passing, some receiving props coming
in for the Cardinals as well. All right, this one
I love. I love this one. Marvin Harrison over four
and a half receptions at plus one twenty five. I
love that. I love that. And then give me Elijah
Higgins over one and a half receptions for plus one forty,

(54:53):
especially with the linebacker play. I mean, Trey McBride, his
reception total is really high, so to get the over
on his receptions, it's over seven and a half or
one plus one fifteen. That six seven eight is a
real sweet spot. But I think it's hard to get eight.
But I think Elijah Jingtts will easily get two catches.

(55:15):
That's kind of what he does with Kyler. But you
get nice plus one forty odds there. And then if
you want to, yeah, I like the receptions numbers. If
you want to go crazy on receiving yards, there's nothing

(55:36):
really there's no really good val Last week, well on
I guess it was on the Monday night game, there
was an easy prop for plus money. It was Kareem
Hunt over half a yard receiving at plus money. Oh
my gosh, that one. And then he got it on

(55:56):
a two yard touchdown pass, and so that was that was.
There are no plus odds on receiving yards, but you
get several plus odds on receiving our receptions. And so
give me Marv over four and a half of plus

(56:17):
one twenty five and give me Elijah Higgins over one
and a half at plus one forty.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
Yeah, I would agree with both of those, and I
like the Higgins call. I would. I would even like
you said two's he's usually good for in this game,
in this scenario where I think the Cardinals are going
to have to throw the ball to stay in it,
I think getting laddering him up to four if you
have that option, would not be a bad thing.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
Anything else in terms of that, we like those rushing
props and you know, passing props, anything else of value
that you like. I know, be Vandel's got better variety
of bets you can make than Bett and GM. So
you've got any of those fun things that you want
to add now that.

Speaker 4 (57:03):
No, they really don't have much since it's a Monday
night game yet, so you know, they've got the passing
and TV score props. But that's about it thus.

Speaker 3 (57:10):
Far, all right, And with that we will wrap up

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
