(01:08):
and we are the Truth Expositors. This podcast has been brought to you by
one one outreached Christian ministries, wherewe seek daily to preach the Gospel,
spread the love of Christ, andadvance the Kingdom of God. We aim
to abolish false doctrine, theology, and all false teachings that contradict the Word

(01:29):
of God. We will be providingin depth explanations overviews and scripture to explain
some of the most misunderstood truths inthe Bible. And today we will be
talking about the names of Jesus andhow it relates to Christmas time. Thank
you so much for all the listenerstuning in. Valencia and I are so

(01:52):
excited about this. This is ourfirst Christmas podcast for the Truth Expositors.
This is one of two I thinkwe're gonna do right, So we're excited
about this being the first Christmas podcastepisode as well as the topic for today,
So talking about the names of Jesusthat in itself can be just a

(02:14):
year long, year round type ofpodcasts. But the interesting thing is that
we want to talk about the namesof Jesus in relation to Christmas time.
You know, we live in asociety, in the Western culture, where
we celebrate Christmas as a time forgiving gifts. You know, Christmas time
is for Christians about Jesus Christ, the greatest gift that was given to us.

(02:38):
So where we celebrate in the Westernculture how to give gifts to people,
we actually ask Christians, especially inthe Truth Expositors, remember that we
can't. It's not the giving ofgifts that matters. It's the gift that
was given that truly matters, andthat is Jesus Christ. So this is

(02:59):
to celebrate the birth of Christ, and that we want to take time today
and get into some of the namesof Jesus and Howard relates and Howard correlates
I guess to Christmas time to mainlyhonor him. So Valencia, of course,

(03:21):
you know I want to start becauseI you know very well that I
love the name of Jesus, thename Emmanuel. A lot of people.
We have seen this in the Gospelof Matthew, I believe where it first
well appeared in the Gospels, howthe Angel proclaimed that Mary was gonna be

(03:44):
uh giving birth to a son andgonna call him Emmanuel. But if you
really want to get technical, thiswas in reference to something that occurred in
Isaiah chapter seven, verse fourteen, where the prophet Isaiah prophesie, Therefore the
Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a version shall conceive and

(04:06):
bear a son, and shall callhis name Emmanuel. Now this is very,
very, very important, and Ithink this is one of the This
is one of my favorite names period, but definitely one of the I think
more well known names for Jesus consideringaround Christmas time. The name of Manuel

(04:28):
means God with us. And thereason why that is important because it signifies
God's presence with mankind. We don'tjust see this in the Gospels or in
the New Testament, and we justdon't see this in Isaiah. God has

(04:49):
always been with mankind. God hasalways been with us. We know this
from even Genesis chapter one, whenGod created the heaven and earth, chapter
two where he put man informed himout of the ground, and in chapter
three when man's sin He's still providedfor them even when they were exiled from

(05:10):
the garden of Eden. God hasalways been with mankind. And I think
that's the most important thing to reallytake away from this name Emmanuel, that
truly God is with us. Hehas always been with us. And we
live in a society now where wetry to squeeze God out of everything,

(05:32):
out of schools, even out ofprayer, out of the Constitution, out
of the just almost out of everything. We try to squeeze God out.
But God is with us. Wenever can. Whether we want God or
not, whether we want Jesus ornot, We got them because the world

(05:53):
is the Lord's and everything in itaccording to God's word. So my personal
reason why I like Emmanuel H.Valencia is because as a Christian, you
know, I've always felt like Iwas alone, like there was no one
else with me, that I wasgonna walk this walk alone. And I'm

(06:14):
not sure if I necessarily got savedbefore all of my siblings. I just
know that I felt like I followedhim or tried to follow him faith throughout
my childhood where I always just fellalone. I just felt like I was
the only one to say, theonly one that was gonna be able to
understand me was me. You know, I just felt alone. So when

(06:36):
I began reading the Bible, Iseen the name Emmanuel, and that struck
me hard because I realized at thatvery moment that I was never gonna be
alone. I never was alone.God is with us. And I think
that's important because God is with allof us period, whether we're saved or

(06:57):
not, but especially for the childrenof God. God is with us,
and we know God is with usbecause we have this Holy Spirit. See
what I love about this name isthat it encompasses the very person of God.
God the Father is with us.God, the Son Jesus Christ is
with us. God, the HolySpirit is with us. And we know

(07:18):
all of these things because as Christians, we know that God is with us
in the garden. Jesus was withus in the garden. The Holy Spirit
was with us in the garden. The Holy Spirit, God and Jesus Christ
is with us even right now.And I love that because for those who
ever would feel like they're alone inthis walk with the Lord, I hope

(07:41):
they are comforted by knowing that Emmanuel, that God is with us. And
it's very important for this holiday seasonbecause in relation to the birth of Jesus
Christ, that God is has cometo the earth in the form of Man

(08:01):
in the form of Jesus Christ,so not only has a spiritual meaning,
it also has a literal meaning thatGod has now come into the world through
the Virgin mary Uh to be theredeemer and savior of the world. So,
Valencia, my question to you, what name or names can you think

(08:24):
about when it comes to Jesus inrelation to this wonderful Christmas season. Yeah,
I definitely think that Emanuel God withUs. It's definitely a verse that
you think of, you know, during Christmas time. And Keia, I
definitely agree with you as far asyou know, knowing God is God is
with us is definitely important, youknow, in the Christian world because it

(08:48):
can, you know, seem lonely, especially if you know maybe you're the
only you know, Christian in thefamily or or not. You know,
it could certainly seem that way.And knowing that you know you have guy
there with you no matter what, whenever you feel lonely and he's not going
anywhere, it's definitely a great reminder. One of the verse verses that come

(09:11):
to mind for me. It probablyhas like four names in it. I
believe is Isaiah nine. I believeand that verse says, for for to
us a child is born, tous, each son is given, and
the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful

(09:31):
counselor Mighty God, Everlasting Father.Principiece. That actually is Isaiah nine to
six. And yeah, it haslike four, uh, you know,
different names in adverse Jesus, oneof them being wonderful counselor. And you
know when you think of counselors, you know, you think of those that

(09:54):
you go to, you know, when you have problems that you need to
need help with direction, This tosomebody who could listen and maybe give you
tips. But God is the counselorof all all counselors. You know,
you don't need. It's a freegift. There's no need to you know,
schedule appointments, you know, findthe right one, pay a fee

(10:18):
for it. It's a free giftthat you're that's available to all those you
know that believe, you know, believe in Him. And the great news
is you don't have to worry aboutit if it's the wrong advice or you
know, if it's gonna puach youin the wrong direction, because you know,
God is for us, so he'salways He already knows what happens.

(10:39):
You know, he he established allof those plans for us, so you
know, we go to him,he's already gonna gonna know what we need,
you know, what we want beforewe even ask. And he's always
available, you know, to givethat that counselor that direction, that advice
that we need, you know,to go forward or to get through our

(11:00):
day. You know, he hasthat perfect strategy, that perfect wisdom,
and he also has uh the strengthwe needed to get through it. And
speaking of strength, uh, that'swhat we think of when we say,
you know, mighty God, whichis another name in that verse, which
pretty much talks about you know,God's power and stream. It's what you

(11:26):
know, helps us to to getby, you know, knowing that you
know, we have a God who'sbigger than any any circumstance, any struggle
that we go through, that wehave him there, that he's in control,
that we're never gonna you know, have any struggle or circustance or whatever
a test trial that we cannot bear. And there's also comfort and knowing that

(11:50):
you know, God is with usin those struggles, that we're not alone.
The next one in that verse everlastingfather, and it's pretty much the
sucking about you know, God's internal, personal, intimate love for us.
You know, it's it's the loveof you know, like a parent and
a child. You know, knowingthat there are some of us that maybe

(12:11):
have a parent that's not around,or maybe we don't really feel that our
parent loves us. You know,God loves us even more than you know,
even more than our earthly parent can. You know, he created us,
he knows our every thought, youknow, he knows, he knows
our herds, he knows our wants, and he's there to comfort us.

(12:31):
So his love is is greater thana love of that any parent can give.
And it's eternal, it's never it'snot going anywhere. He will never
leave or forsake us. And lastly, we have the Prince of Peace,
which is also an averse. Andyou know this is different than the world,

(12:54):
you know, any peace that theworld can give us, it's you
know, it surpasses all understanding. It's you know, others see us,
you know, in the midst ofcircumstances and trouble, you know what's going
on. You know, now intwenty twenty and we still have that you
know, that peace that people mightwonder what that what why we have that

(13:16):
piece and we're able to tell them, you know, God, we're able
to because we we have you know, the piece of God. We can
get through anything. Rather it begrief, you know, sadness, despair,
whatever it may be, we haveGod there to help us throw it.
There's no earthly peace you know thatcould be found and much of what

(13:37):
you know, life can throw atyou, but we have but Jesus promises
us peace, which is you knowdifferent. I know that's you know one
thing that you know, once Iwas saved that I needed was that piece
that you know, no matter whatI was going through, that he was
there, that He's going to bethere, continue to be there. And

(13:58):
you know I have that peace.I can go to him with whatever I'm
facing, whatever care, is,anxiety, whatever it is. Once I
bring those to God, he offersthat peace. I know. There's you
know, some that the holidays mightnot be as joy as as you know
others, you know, having thatfamily, maybe you lost someone and you

(14:20):
know we need that that wonderful counselorthat mighty God and you know everlasting Father.
We need that on a personal leveland that peace that he brings,
so it takes the focus off ofthe hurt and the pain and it puts
it on him and he provides thatyou know, that peace and that strength
and every and that courage to getthrough the holidays and to have joy,

(14:41):
even though it may may have beensome you know, painful memories in the
past or you're present. So key, I'm gonna send it back over to
Yield. That's about you know, four names already. There so any other
names that you want to discuss, you know, Valencia, I'm actually glad

(15:01):
that you brought up Isaiah nine tosix and actually went over in great detail
these four names that you mentioned. You know, as someone who works in
human services, I'm glad you mentionedcounselor wonderful counselor. So I'm I got
pretty excited about that. But y, you're right, you know what I
mean, You are absolutely right. These are some beautiful, beautiful names of

(15:26):
Jesus, especially during this holiday seasonand in then, like you said,
even in everyday life. You know, we need this. And it's funny
too, cause when you were talking, you know, I was listening and
I was thinking too. You know, this is truly what we all need.

(15:48):
We all need the wonderful Counselor toMahi God, the Everlasting Father,
the Prince of Peace. These arethe names of Jesus, but they also
are the characters that engulf Jesus, you know, and in these characteristics is
what the entire world needs. That'swhy he has these names, because that's

(16:11):
his role, you know what Imean. And these names Mighty Counselor can
translate into guidance. Mighty God,like you said, can transfer into strength,
Everlasting Father can translate into protection, and the Prince of Peace can translate

(16:32):
into peace. We all need onthis earth guidance, strength, protection,
and peace. And why we needguidance is because we were lost in sin.
Right, we're in darkness. InJohn chapter one, Verse one perfectly
illustrates that Jesus is the word ofGod to guide us out of the darkness

(16:52):
and into everlasting life aka the Light. He is the light that has shined
on this earth. So he guidesus with his illuminating light. And that's
why he is a wonderful counselor, because he guides us and Mighty God,
we know in Philippians four thirteen thatwe have the strength of God to persevere

(17:17):
through anything. And we know thatas everlasting Father, like you said,
protection. According to Roman chapter eight, verses thirty five to thirty nine,
we know that nothing can separate usfrom the love of God, which is
in Christ. Jesus the apostle.Paul tells of everything in these verses that

(17:38):
cannot separate us from his love, which is very, very important because it's
God's love. In these verses thatperfectly illustrate his protection. That nothing that
we can do, or nothing thatcan be done to us, can separate
us from that love, that isthe love of the everlasting Father that protects

(18:04):
us. And I'm glad for thatRomans chapter eight, those verses because,
like you said, Valencia, ourearthly Father, they this is what they
do. They keep us, theyprotect us, and how much more is
our heavenly everlasting Father. So whenwe reference Jesus as everlasting Father, we're

(18:26):
seeing that he protects us. Heprotects us by his love and in his
blood. Now the Prince of Peace, we said, that is peace,
something else the world desperately needs.Like you said, with this pandemic,
John chapter sixteen, verse thirty three, it's amazing. It says these things

(18:48):
I have spoken unto you that inme ye might have peace in the world.
You should have tribulation, but beof good cheer. I have overcome
the world, like you said,in this pandemic and various things going on
in this earth. The world initself brings about trouble, brings about sorrow,
brings about sadness. But it isJesus Christ, who is the Prince

(19:12):
of peace, that rules in ourhearts, like you said, that passes
all understanding, that helps us toovercome anything that we may face or go
through in this world. So thisis all the things that the world needs.
Guidance, strength, protection, andpeace, and all of these things

(19:33):
are wrapped into the person of Jesusthe Christ. Which is why I'm very
very glad that you mentioned Isaiah chapternine, verse six, because this perfectly
illustrates in Jesus Christ, we haveall that we need. I do want
to point out something too. Inthe earlier part of verse six, to

(20:00):
us a child is born, untous a son is given these terms child
and son, they further elaborate onEmmanuel, the child to be born to
the Virgin. Why this further elaborateson the title God with us, excuse

(20:21):
me, is because it says, for unto us meaning the inhabitants of the
earth humans, a child is bornstuff means a child has come into the
world right and to unto us ason is given again, a son has
been given to us on this earth. So it almost illustrates a point of

(20:48):
where something has come into something else, meaning God has come into the world
in bodily form and the person ofJesus Christ as a child and the Son
of God aka Emanuel God with us. God is with us and as a

(21:10):
child that is given to us.A child is born to us, and
a son is given to us.It really does boil down to the fact
that God has come into the worldto redeem sinful man from their falling state.
Now, Valencia, this actually isgoing to relate back to your reference
of Isaiah chapter nine, verse six. The other two names that I really

(21:33):
like around this holiday, which it'llshock you because I me and you haven't
talked about this before, but itis the King of Kings and the Lord
of Lords. These titles are veryvery very important around well every year,
all year round, and especially duringthe holiday season. Because the King of

(21:59):
Kings, we can think about kings, and you can basically just kind of
deduce in your mind that to bea king that means you rule over something
which is absolutely true. And herein Isaiah chapter nine, we see in
verse six that the government shall beupon his shoulder. The government, the
government of this world shall be uponthe shoulder of the King of kings.

(22:26):
Jesus is that king. He isthe person in which all the governments and
rules and laws and stuff of thisworld will be upon his shoulder. The
Kingdom of God is upon the shoulderof Jesus Christ when he came into this
world. See it's his kingdom nowon this earth, and now it's just

(22:48):
amazing. So that's what makes himthe King of kings. And we know
and can be comforted even that thisworld that causes us so much tribulation.
According to John chapter sixteen, versethirty three, that Jesus is the King
of kings, and he has broughtthe government on his shoulder to earth,

(23:10):
meaning he has brought the Kingdom ofGod here to this earth that is going
to guide us and gives us strengthand protection and peace. See it all
kind of relates back. And thelast title I like is Lord of lords.
Lord. In the Greek term meanschiros, and Cairos can be translated

(23:32):
to mean God. So to saythat Jesus is Chiro's is to say that
he is God. And to saythat Jesus is God represents his lordship over
the world. Why does calling JesusGod represent lordship over the world? Because

(23:52):
only God has created this world thatwe live in. According to Genesis one,
one see, this earth is theLord's and the Lord is God,
and the Lord is Jesus, andJesus is God. So when we see
Lord of lords, we can havegreat peace and comfort in knowing that God

(24:19):
is above all. He not onlyis above all that he has created,
he is in all that he hascreated. And it's amazing because only God
can do that. He is aManuel and the Old Testament, in the
New Testament, he is a Manuelin Genesis as he is in twenty twenty.

(24:41):
And I love that you mention thesenames of the Mighty countsl the Wonderful
counselor the Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace, because
these are characteristics of his nature, and these are the very things that this
world needs. And let's just pointout real quick to call Jesus Christ everlasting

(25:07):
Father really does signify a lot abouthis deity. Jesus. Jesus was born
humbly as a child and a manger, but a son was given to us.
I heard a preacher say one timea child is born, Jesus was

(25:30):
born, but the son was given. The son is the Messiah, the
Christ. So God gave us.Uh, God gave us the Christ and
was born on this earth in theperson of Jesus Christ. He gave us
what we needed by sending his sonthat we needed a savior on this world,

(25:52):
in this earth. And that's whatmakes these like really really important,
you know what I'm saying. Valencia, Yeah, okay, I don't think
we ever did talk about the Kingof Kings or Lord of Lords, but
definitely understand now why you like thatCC song King of Kings actually had me
thinking about that, you know,as I was listening to you. But

(26:15):
it's a perfect reminder, you know, for us that you know, God
is above all, like you said, you know, we don't we shouldn't
put anyone above or anything above Godbecause He is, you know, above
all, and uh, like yousaid, owner of all, He created
everything, so you know, he'sLord of all, so definitely good good

(26:38):
names as well. Another name Ilike is you the light of the world.
And we see that in John eighttwelve says again Jesus foton, I'm
saying I am the light of theworld. Whoever follows me will not walk
in darkness, but will have thelight of life. You know, kay,
you know I like that first Matthewfive sixteen. Lect your lights shine

(27:02):
before men, so that they maysee your good works and glorify your father.
And you know, the light ofthe world. You know. Essentially
it means that you know, apartfrom apart from Jesus, who we live
in darkness, reed it to crave, you know, our creator or father,
and you know, have a relationshipwith Jesus and all those dark spots

(27:22):
that we have in our life.He comes and he brightens sows up,
you know. With with any light, it's a guide, you know.
You know, when you have allthe lights off in your house, you
can't see anything, so you justturn that light off and it works as
a guide to you know, getyou where you need to be, Like
a flashlight, any type of light, so you know, and just like

(27:45):
darkness brings like gloom, and darknessthat light brings, you know, just
the opposite of that, you know, brighton is joy. It that just
makes things look so much better, you know, when there's life light applied
to it. Just like you know, in the city, you know,
you see all the lights flashing offof the buildings when it's at night.

(28:07):
It's like the best you know, part of the driving in the city at
night because you see those lights prettymuch shining off of the buildings and stuff,
and it's a beautiful sight. Andyou know that's what God does.
He brightens up and makes things, you know, illuminate beautiful. It makes
life worth living. He also bringsyou know, those dark areas in our

(28:32):
life to life. You know,it permeate light periades into every crack and
crevice in our lives and brings it, you know, makes it visible.
So all those things that we needto work on and stuff, God shines
a light on those. That waywe're able to, you know, turn
away from those wrong things, youknow, repent and ask God for forgiveness,

(28:56):
and He helps us to, youknow, fix those areas in our
life that we need to fix.Maybe you know, some things that we
don't even know that's that's an areathat I would need to work on.
He brings those a light, andus as Christians, we're called, you
know, to be the light forothers, you know, for them to

(29:17):
see that light in us. Andyou know that's by you know, walking
in the spirit and doing you know, doing what's right, being obedient,
and telling others of Jesus, youknow, through us, through how we
act and and how we carry ourselves, because for some people we may be
the only Jesus that they say.So we're you know, we're called to

(29:37):
be the letter light shine to letthose good parts become visible to others.
And you know, this is alwaysa good verse for me because you know,
it helps me to be mindful. You know that of my actions that

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
