The AFC's having such a rough week, the crew could barely react to it all! The Titans' new stadium looks like every generic suburban business, Ja'Marr Chase got hurt just as the Bengals got hot, and Matt Ryan got hurt AND benched.

Of course, the crew reacted to all of it, plus picked every Week 8 NFL game straight up and against the spread!

Welcome to three and Out, yournational NFL podcast featuring three sports media pros
me Tie Shelter from five to thirtyeight, joined by Samantha Bunton at NBC
Sports, Michael Shotti of the thirtythirteen. It's time for this week's Big
Show, where we go along onbig NFL topics. Usually also have a
big guest for you, but thenew cycle spun a little too fast this

(00:35):
week. We recorded all of ourpicks and our discussion and everything else.
New Titan Stadium. You had theBears and Eagles made a trade and then
made those picks, and then JamarChase blew out his hip or blew out
might be an exaggeration, but itlooks like it's going to be a significant

(00:56):
injury. So we're going to talkabout that. We recorded a segment that'll
be our middle seg instead of aguest spot, because everyone we wanted to
talk to about it. It waslike I am panicking writing about it,
and we got to get this outto the people. So we're going to
do that, but first make sureyou are subscribed. Like share rate review,
go to three outpod dot com.Spread the word on what we're doing.

(01:19):
Love doing it want to keep doingit for you. And before we
get to any of the other stuff, we got to talk about the AFC
South in general. And I thinkperhaps there's nothing more emblematic of the AFC
South than the new conceptual drawings thatwere released by the Titans of their new
stadium, Samantha. We talked lastweek to Joe rex Road of the Athletic.

(01:41):
He's based in Nashville and has beencovering the Titans covered up for the
Tennessee and before he joined the Athleticand kind of talked about the politics of
that and the optics of that, and this stadium, Samantha, I just
love so much. And before beforeI get into the take on specific stadium,
I'm gonna throatload this a little bit. I have a passing interest in

(02:04):
architecture. I took a year ofmechanical drawing in high school because I thought
I wanted to be an engineer, and then it turns out that I would
be the worst possible engineer because I'mvery, very creative and very free flowing
and very haphazard, which is notwhat you want when you need someone who
can like detail tiny little mechanical parts, which it turns out that's what engineering

(02:30):
is. Not like drawing rad fighterjets that can blow stuff up in your
notebook. That's not aerospace engineering,I guess. So I pivoted to architecture.
So I learned a little bit.You know. I love the bulld
horizontal lines. I love the sortof arts and crafty thing. I like
that sort of vague Frank Lloyd rightthing. And there's a reason why a

(02:50):
lot of people are aids like allthose things, because they call to mind
cool buildings that we saw growing up. Believe your kids, buildings from the
forties and fifties and sixties that kindof pre date all this, like prefab,
mass produced, big box, aluminumstamped stuff. However, that became
so popular that now that architecture iswhat I like to call BRU Pub McDonald's

(03:13):
or Credit Union, because every singlething is made in this style, and
we have now expanded it to theTitans Stadium. I'm curious to hear what
you think, Samantha, because thisis cracking me up. This is hilarious,
and I think, first of all, I think I'm probably like the
lone millennial who absolutely hates like themid century modern. I don't know I

(03:37):
hate it, like I am muchmore like you got to go back even
further than that. Like my ideallike aesthetic is like if it doesn't look
like somebody died here two hundred yearsago in a game of Clue, I
don't want to be there. So, you know, if somebody wants to
make like a haunted mansion like aggat the Christie Style Stadium, I'm here
for it. But Ravens, Ravens, that's you, that's you on deck,

(04:00):
yes, Edgar Ellen, Oh mygosh, I ah see. Now
this is where I wish that youactually were an architect, or that one
of us was an architect, sothat we could like submit plans and be
like listening. Ravens need to remodelgo on Zillo in Baltimore. They're so
wild stuff they would fit right in. I'm telling you, oh, man,

(04:21):
oh man, oh, that wouldbe so perfect. But this,
I mean, I Brupa McDonald's creditUnion is the literal best description for this
ever. Like it reminds me ofthe phase when I don't know if they
that this Dan where you grew upand we started to see some of this.
I'm like, I guess like thelate nineties early two thousands see slow

(04:42):
outdoor mall in like cities where outdoormalls are not common because it is too
cold. Yes, ours is calledEastwood Town Center and it's a disaster.
Yes, yes, they all andthey all have a name kind of like
that Eastwood. I mean there wasone in Columbus called Easton that we used
to drive to from Cleveland, ormy name was called Legacy Village. And

(05:04):
they all have the same thing.Right, there's like a Nordstrom rack and
an Eddie Bauer, and a cheesecakefactory and a Dick Sporting Goods and like
all of these like generic like semibig boxing kinds of things, which is
exactly what the stadium looks like.Like. If there's not a McDonald's,

(05:24):
a group of and a Credit Unioninside that stadium so that it can be
its own little mid century modern, millennial micro world, I'm going to be
so disappointed. It's tremendous to methat you can be driving through Nashville and
go, oh, what's that?Is it a two billion dollars state of
the art sports complex or just likea really big Panda Express, like a

(05:49):
fan could be either the world's largestPanda Express, I would go to that.
Yeah, you know, honestly,me too. So that's one other
thing I expect that on the clublevel, Titans want I want the Panda
Express in there, as well asmy credit Union branch am I McDonald's,
and certainly there will be a grupup. Of course, there will be a

(06:10):
brupub and AFC South fans. Coltsfans certainly have needed a brewpub or two
at hand, because after losing tothe Colts, they have benched Matt Ryan.
There's this great moment, Samantha wheremultiple reporters were tweeting slightly contradictory things
about, oh, you know, the cults have announced they're moving on from

(06:32):
Matt Ryan and it will be SamEllinger. And then I think Ian Rappaport
tweeted it with oh, Matt Ryan, he's injured, so he'll be sitting
in the backup takes over and Iactually tweeted screenshot from an old Calvin and
Hobbs comic where Calvin is told thatdad is making a fire in the living
room and he's like, oh,oh boy, oh boy, a fire.

(06:55):
He runs and then his dad hashunched over the hearth and he's like,
oh, in the fire place, and that was kind of my reaction,
like, oh, the Colts arebenching Matt Ryan. All right,
this is a story like this isfascinating. Let's go oh, because he's
hurt. But then multiple other reportsgetting no, no, no, Like
to be clear, he is gettinghe's hurt, but he is getting benched.

(07:15):
They're gonna roll with samu eleens orthe rest of the year and see
what he's got. And for aColts team that last year was by just
about any strength metric, probably thefourth or fifth best team in the AFC,
which means they will probably the fifthor sixth best team in the NFL.
And we're sitting around going, howare we going to get over that

(07:39):
hump and not just make the playoffs, but make a deep playoff run,
challenge for contend for AFC title, not just AFC self title, but you
know, get farther than the Titans, surpass the Titans, and be up
there in that mix with the Billsand the Chiefs. To be sitting here
going We're going to start the kidand play out the string is a fascinating

(08:01):
fall to me. It's this entirething. I mean, you can,
I think if you take it backto like the unexpected Andrew Luck retirement,
and then you just follow the cultstress and they're like someone who's going to
get a great book out of thissomeday, like what the hell happened to
the Indianapolis called during this period?Like and it's going to be like eight
hundred pages long and there will beno definitive conclusion at the end, like

(08:24):
just absolutely wild. And I mean, I guess I'll start with the Matt
Ryan thing and say, like,I mean, I feel bad for the
guy. I hate this. Ilike Matt Ryan. I wanted him to
do well. I thought maybe achange of scenery will be good for him.
And we all thought he was goingto be surrounded by stronger offensive personnel,
even if there were always questions aboutthe receiving corps there, the offensive
line there. I mean, it'sthis isn't exactly something you saw coming,

(08:48):
right. This was a strength ofthis team. But I think a lot
of what it comes down to isthat like maybe he's just not and it's
it's bizarre, like you said, the whole story where he's being benched but
always hurt. And then they hadto come back and clarify don't worry he
was going to be bench anyway, whether he was hurt or not. You're

(09:09):
like, this is a weird roadto go down, But okay, I
would buy that approach more if youreally thought Sam Ellinger was like the quarterback
of the future for you. Soyou wanted to put like all your chips
in on this kid, right,Like, we want him to have every
confidence that he's our guy, notjust the next thing we're trying. But

(09:31):
I find it hard to believe thatthat's true. So, I mean,
Matt Bryan maybe not a fit here. You know, this may have just
been a bad call. I mean, if you can't, like I'm thinking
about that, we thought this waslike sort of a exceptionally good offense otherwise
aside, they just needed the quarterback. But like, if you can't create

(09:54):
like Andrew Luck and you can't getrid of the ball fast like Philip Rivers,
like, well, maybe Matt Ryanwhat he does is not necessarily going
to vibe with what else they havethere because you can't do the things that
you need to do that kind ofmakes the rest of the system work.
So then the next question becomes like, Okay, well, now you're what

(10:16):
throwing growing in the towel. We'regoing to start this rookie. We're trying
to get a top pick. Butlike, I mean, do we need
to talk about Chris Ballard at thispoint? Like are you Yeah? Yeah,
I think you're a spot on,because that's what frank Reich said,
right, frank Reich said he kindof tried to throw it on himself and
say, hey, we promised MattRyan you're gonna have one of the best

(10:37):
running games in the NFL. You'regonna have great pass protection, and we
haven't had that, so you know, he kind of got set up to
fail in that way by us.That's our bad, Okay, But as
I always say, when coaches goup and take the responsibility for themselves,
that kind of puts the responsibility onthem. Right, if you're telling the
truth, frank Reich, then likeyou did, you identified the wrong quarterback

(10:58):
and you misrepresented what you're going tobe able to do with him and for
him, and then you came outand told the world you're super happy you
got your quarterback. Now that youran. You also said about Wentz,
yes, but you also said aboutWentz and then you were better before either
of them came to town. Youknow, go get Jacobe Berset back,
what the heck? And I believeFrank Reich is a good head coach and

(11:22):
a good offensive coordinator. Like yousay, Chris Ballard was allowed to survive
a whole lot of turnover and nowyou kind of look at the debits and
the receipts for him and go like, how does this add up to he
still gets to oversee this team. And I'm kind of in the Frank Reich
should get another year, but ChrisBallard shouldn't. Camp. Yeah, I

(11:46):
agree with you. I think thesituation with Frank Reich is more like,
well, maybe he is not theperson who should be making the ultimate personnel
decision, yeah who comes in?But which is fine. He's a coach
that doesn't necessarily need to be jobthat is typically the purview of the front
office. And maybe he's just nota coach who has sort of afforded that.
But I think he's a good coachoverall. I completely agree that he

(12:07):
should get another year. But likeBallard, like man, this has been
there have been a lot of problemsunder his tenure, things that have to
be laid at his door. AndI don't care how hard Frank Reich stumped
for Carson Wentz. Ultimately, thebuck stops with the GF. You could
have said, no, we're notdoing that. And it's not just Carson

(12:28):
Wentz either. So I mean,I I think I've seen enough of Chris
ballard Um. I don't think thisis going to go anywhere. Good ke
I would be willing to see outanother year, which I guess sort of
brings me to this thing where we'relike, okay, and so now are
the Titans once again the default winnerof the HC. Yeah, and you

(12:50):
know this is a this is adefense. They are thirteenth in scoring,
ninth in yardage. They've been betterthan that. Rech said it, and
the presser, I think go onMonday he said, we're three through in
one or three three and one orthree scree and one. That is a
half game behind the Titans for theleague. Even after losing head to head
to the Titans. And the Titans, you know, we were talking about
it, you know, lest wewere talking about it on Monday, we

(13:11):
were talking about it the week before. This is a team that you know,
this is the number one seed inthe AFC last year, and we
talked about it in the offseason, they kind of like waved the white flag
and went, oh, I guessthat was our chance. We had a
home playoff game against a Bengals teamnobody thought would beat us. Ryan Tannehill

(13:33):
through three picks, and looks likewe bet on the wrong horse. And
then instead of replacing Ryan Tannehill, you know, mimicking the Colts. Move,
Okay, get rid of Ryan Tannehill, get me the next best Ryan
Tannehill, you know, get mesome mid level free agent. Let's get
on this quarterback carousel. Get JimmyGaroppolo in here. They just went,

(13:54):
all right, well, I guesswe'll just let A J. Brown and
Julio Jones go and get up oncontending um. And yet they've done that,
and they're still just playing tenacious defenseof kind of a no name defense
and hugging it out with Mike Vrabeland running the ball with Derek Henry and
they're four and two and they're probablygonna win this division. Having tied one

(14:18):
hand behind their back. Oh,I mean, I feel terrible for Mike
Grabel, who's really I think anoutstanding coach, um who like and they
just keep like taking away his toys. And then he just finds like to
play. You know, like ifit's like go to your room and there's
no toys in there, and youknow, it starts frustrating for your parents
to find you up there like buildinglike a tower out of you know,

(14:39):
like your toothbrush and your pajamas andlike whatever else you have to hand,
which is exactly what that Mike Grabelhas been able to do, Samantha.
Samantha, I just had an idea, what if what if those are his
toys? Is Mike Vrabel not thekid who plays with the cardboard box instead
of the toy? Oh my gosh, you're right. You're to keep taking

(15:05):
all his toys, and he's like, great, poor cardboard boxes. Oh
my gosh, No, that's soperfect. Like when you buy the kid
like the fancy you know, thebig lego side and the bike, and
the kids like give me the box, give me the box, give me
the instruction manual, Like that ismy agreeable and he's tremendously good at it.

(15:26):
And also he has benefited from thefact that the rest of this division
just kind of can't do anything right. We just talked about the Colts,
the Jaguars. I mean, wehave hope for the Jaguars, but we're
not there yet. And the Texans, I mean, who knows. They
finally fired the bunny has been friendlysent away, So we haven't talked about
that on the show. By theway, Easter be the Bunny's gone,

(15:46):
yea, so maybe that will behelpful to Houston. I'm so much encouraged
by what I've seen out of them, mostly the bunny tiring or dismissal or
whatever you want to call it.But but yeah, I mean I think
what the Titans, It's like,Okay, I guess they got preoccupied with
the stadium stuff, which I actuallydo think is kind of a real thing
in play here. Oh yeah, but I look, it's like they just

(16:08):
went, well, we don't care, this is a lawsuit. It's a
weird time to give up again,Why did you not just go after Jimmy
Garoppolo, Like why not plug insomething there that would have been relatively inexpensive
in exchange for not just giving away? I mean, really, the draft
picks you got back for those thingslike fair value? Sure, but like

(16:30):
is that really going to change yourfate? Like you're in a position to
win your division now, and youjust like don't care, and then Mike
Grabel went, that's nice management.I also don't care. I'm gonna go
win the division anyway. Yeah, and we'll talk about it a little bit
more when we get to our picks. You're going to do in just a
second. But yeah, Houston onefour and one. Interestingly, three two
and one against the spread. That'sanother team that has intentionally shortened themselves of

(16:55):
basically all talent, and they arecoming up with ways to be interesting.
But we're gonna be interesting. Wegot an interesting guest to get to and
then we are going to break downevery single game and pick it straight up
and against the spread. Let youknow how you need to be picking in
your contests, your bats when wecome back right here on three and out,

(17:15):
your National NFL Podcast. Welcome backto three and out, your National
NFL Podcast. It is our midweekbig show. But instead of a big
guest, we have big news.Jamar Chase, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver.
Just as the Bengals were getting thingstogether, apparently got hurt in the middle
of the week. I'm not quiteexactly sure what happened. Not gonna play

(17:38):
versus the Browns, likely to beplaced on injured reserve. According to multiple
national sources, it's a hip injurycould be put on IRF he's put on
IR. According to Adam Schefter,he misses at least the next four games.
This Monday night erre against Cleveland andthen matchups versus Carolina, Pittsburgh,
and Tennessee. Santha, we alreadyrecorded our picks, sou when when you

(18:03):
when we come back and we giveour picks, this this information will not
be in there. Um. ButSamantha, what do you think about this
news? Well, I'll start bysaying, I'm not changing my pick um
since since we have that on there, not changing my pick um. But
and I guess to that end, when you hear what the next four games

(18:26):
are for the Bengals, you thinkthis could have been worse. So in
terms of the timing of it couldbe worse. But that's then we're assuming
it's only four games, right Likethis is you know, the mysterious midweek
injuries are not necessarily quite as cutand dried as some other things. Like
Okay, well, if he goeson IR before weeks, probably that's enough.
But we don't really know what isthis? What happened? Um?

(18:47):
Very strange, but they don't knowthat you. I mean, if you're
the Bengals, like you make atrade here, yeah, you've got sometime
before the deadline you could get help. But and I guess that maybe that
would be sort of the signal playerfor us on like how serious is this

(19:07):
really? Because like he's really onlygoing about four weeks, we're really going
to do that? I mean,I guess it depends what you have to
give up and what's on the market, But like, I mean, there
ought to be some sort of likemid tier receivers floating around out there.
Like I'm not saying just like abody somebody who's better than that. But
you don't necessarily need to go geta mor Key guy or yea, or
do you go sign O'Dell? Yeah, that seems like an option. It's

(19:30):
it's just tough because this is theBengals offense. We were waiting to get
back on track, and then acouple of weeks they did. They had
the big explosion universus the Saints. That is like all right, cool this
They've they've got it. They're backon the right track. Jamar Chase is
uncoverable again. Like here we go, ready to go the boat race the
Falcons. No problem, here wego. Now it's like you lease Jamara

(19:52):
Chase and like, yeah, canyou make it work with Boyd and these
other guys? Sure? Can youbeat the Panthers probably? Can you beat
the Browns probably? You know, like like you said, the schedule this
lines up. Can you beat theSteelers? Probably? Can you beat the
Titans? Probably? Like this thisisn't ye devastating necessarily, but for a
team it just kind of got backon the track. Is still trying to

(20:12):
make up some losses in a reallystacked AFC playoff field, Like you need
all the w's you can get,and then when he comes back, you
you need him good. Well that'sthe part that I'm a little bit stuck
on, is like, Okay,I think you can survive this stretch.
Lucky on the games, you cansurvive those four games, but like it's

(20:32):
this is going to be tight toget either a divisional win or a wildcard
spot in the AFC, So youcan't really afford to drop things that you
need to be able to win.And it's one thing to say we think
we can survive this four game stretch, but like what happens if he comes
back after that and he's like sixtypercent and you get into a top from
part of your schedule, Like isthat enough? Like it is sixty percent

(20:55):
of Jamar Chase acceptable or do youneed to go get another person? I
don't know. I mean it's terriblebecause, like you said, they just
just just kind of figured it backout and settled back in only to have
this happened. But like the competitionis pretty stiff. You know, there
are divisions. Heck, there's anentire conference where I would say, you

(21:15):
know what, They're gonna be fine, Like they'll survive this, Like you
can back end it as a wildcard if you. I mean to imagine
if they were in the MC STAL, we'd be like, that's fine,
right, they'll figure it out.But like AFC North, this top you
know, I mean generally the teamthat wins that doesn't really have a great
record because there's too much competition inamongst in the AFC, and wildcards would

(21:36):
be tall order, Like I don'tknow if you could afford to take the
risk. Yeah, no, Iagree, and you we're talking about this
is not well. This is thedouble sided thing, right, is that
they just had this freak Super Bowlrun and you want to kind of strike
while the iron is hot. Yourwindow is opened. You want to get
back there. But like, unlessyou're sure you're gonna win it, I

(21:57):
don't know. I'm of two minds, right, Like, as part of
me is all right, you gottago make the most of you can't what
you can this season, right youneed to not just throw in the towel
on this season, go trade forsomebody. Then at the same time,
you go, hey, look likeJamar Chase and Joe Burrow, the windows
open. The stars almost aligned forus the very first year. The stars

(22:19):
don't align this year. You know, maybe maybe you wait next year,
you know, maybe you look notnot tank or anything, but just go
look, you know, we don'tneed to go all out when we've got
the Chiefs and the Bills and theseother teams we think we're clearly behind.
Now. I don't know. Icould see it kind of going either way,
but I think right now the bigquestion is just gonna have to be

(22:41):
can he be healthy, because ifhe comes back in four weeks and he's
on a snap count, he's notas effective. He's not the guy that's
gonna just take the ball and explodeand burning defense out of nowhere. You
know, if you can't throw himthe screen and have him take it ninety,
if you can't throw it up ona go route and have him burn

(23:03):
everybody like that, that changes themath for how good the Bengals can be,
right And I yeah, it's it'stough. I mean, as much
as you always want to yep, make heay while the sun shines, you
know, it doesn't really matter whatthe calendar said when you should be ready
if you're ready now. But atthe same time, you know me and

(23:23):
one of them's going anywhere anytime soon. And yeah, they're both I think
sort of the rest of that team. They're not in a position where I'm
thinking of like San Francisco right now, where it's like, well you better
do it now, like keep pilingstuff on because now you know the window

(23:45):
is open right now, the NFCis weak. You know, Jimmy's going
to be gone, and we don'tknow what Trey Lance is going to be,
so you know, pilot up,do whatever you can. Like,
I don't think the opportunities are necessarilyany worse at all for the Bengals a
year from now. And you pointedout. You know, they got there
early, like he was expecting themto be competitive last year and they ended
up in the Super Bowl. Soyou're ahead of schedule. You don't have

(24:07):
much to lose. You're not goingto be losing either of these guys or
even I guess at risk of losingthem in free agency for quite some time.
So like maybe you just call ita loss year and that comes into
play too. It's you know,I think it's one thing to throw a
little cash at the problem and bringingOdell fine, but like making a trade,

(24:30):
like I would be very careful aboutwhat I gave up there. Yeah,
for a year that I don't necessarilyneed, the capitals probably work more.
Yeah, that's smart. She stillgot offensive line issues, yea secondary
you know, defensive line is youknow, the like they have problems that
they need draft picks to fix.And then the all in push. You

(24:52):
end up in that Saints world whereyou're going all in every single year and
not not making it and end upwhere the Saints are now, which is
incredibly expensive and nowhere near so allright, I think we're gonna have to
leave it there. We got lotsmore to get to. All of our
picks everything else, and then ofcourse come right back next week two times

(25:17):
a week, our Monday show, our midweek show, just like we always
do right here on three and outyour National NFL Podcast. All right,
we are back three and out YourNational NFL Podcast. Is the thing we
do every single week. We pickevery single game, preview it, pick
it straight up and against the spread, break it down for you. Let's

(25:37):
get right to it, Samantha,Ravens one and a half point favorites at
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who yougot Ravens? For sure? I do
believe there's a path back for TampaBay from where they're at right now,
but I don't think we're close tofinding the entrance to that path right now.
Yeah, Ravens have had a doubledigit lead in every game they've played

(25:59):
this year and found a way toblow half of them. You get a
double digit lead against this Bucks teamand it is over Broncos plus two and
a half at the Jacksonville Jaguars.Broncos two and a half point underdogs after
losing to the Jets. And oh, I don't know what do you think,
Samantha, I'll take the Jaguars.I am so incredibly unimpressed with everything

(26:23):
that Denver has done. They're poorlycoached, they look totally overwhelmed, and
is as much as that defense hasbeen quite good, it is not translating
into wins. And so I guesshere, in a matchup where the talent
isn't quite they're on either side,I'm going to go with what I think
will be the better coach to halfof this, So Doug ep and the

(26:44):
Jaguars. Yeah, there's rumors slashreports going around that this might be it
for Nathaniel Hackett. If he goesand lays an egg against this Jaguars team,
he's done. I agree with you, Dogp's the better coach. And
I'm struggling because every time I've beenlike now, I believe in the Jaguars,
they get worse. But even gettingthe two and a half, I'm

(27:07):
gonna take the Jacks. I'm gonnalay the two and a half. We
shall see Panthers plus four and ahalf underdogs at the Atlanta Falcons one week
after they finally trip up and youknow, fall to expectations rather than rise
above them. Panthers Falcons, Whatdo you think, Samantha, This is
tough because Atlanta was exceeding expectations andthen they face planted and Carolina was doing

(27:32):
exactly the opposite. But I'm Iwant to attribute that mostly to like a
strange breed of like post Christian McCaffrey, post coach firing, dead cat bounce.
I don't think that's anything. Atlantais the better team here, although
that that is a bigger's spread thanI was expecting, So I think I
might take Carolina to cover here. That's exactly the direction I went, even

(27:56):
though the Falcons six and one againstthe spread this year. That is interesting
to me. However, I still, you know, my numbers are like,
this should be like a three pointgame. Yeah, even considering a
home field, which you know,Falcons I have a huge home field,
so I think there's value there.I'm going to take the Panthers as well
to cover, but I do thinkthe Falcons win the game. Oh Man

(28:18):
Bears nine and a half point underdogsat the Dallas Cowboys immediately post their triumph
over the New England Patriots, whichI still don't know what to make of.
Samantha, who do you got here? Yeah, I feel like I
have to throw out that game aslike weird things that sometimes happen in like

(28:40):
Bill Belichick experimentation games. But theBears, I mean, I don't know,
like or is it a little bitdisrespectful after that to give them,
you know, put them nine anda half back. But then again,
that Dallas defense is really really good, and I'm legitimately afraid for Justin Fields
and that Bears offense going up againstthem. So Dallas no doubt the winner
in this game. I feel prettysafe saying that. But I'm struggling a

(29:03):
little bit with the line here.I think, I think I like the
Bears against the spread here, it'sjust too big. It's too big.
Yeah, I agree, And havingyou know, watched the Lions Cowboys thing
where that came was ten to sixgoing into the final quarter and a couple
of a couple of close review decisionsmight have been thirteen ten Lions going towards

(29:26):
the end. I think the Bearsto kind of figured out a formula with
Justin Fields getting him out on bootlegsthey can to move in space. Front
of the show, Patrick Kleppik, who was on the way Point senior year
reporter. He and his colleague RobZachne have that that we are video game
reporters and media types, but welove sports and we're going to do it

(29:48):
on the side podcast fascinating Whip Around. They did a charity live stream late
last week where they were just doggingdogging the Bears, and then they record
at an emergency segment and added itonto their regular pod that went up this
morning after the Bears one. They'rejust thrilling with you know, new podcast.

(30:11):
I'm telling you, like, ifyou if you have a like niche
Bears interest, it is so good. Yes, tremendous, Yes, it's
fantastic. So um, I'm gonnaI'm gonna take the Bears against the spread
here and I might get beat,I might get burned, but so what
I cannot I just cannot. Myteam of adequacy, the Miami Dolphins and
a half point favorites at my personalDetroit Lions. Well, I don't even

(30:37):
know what to do with this.I did Detroit enraged someone in the schedule
maker's office, like this is themeanest schedule ever given to somebody who really
should never have been subjected to likestrength of schedule. Oh my gosh,
um, I yeah, I'll takeMiami. I look, I hate it.

(30:59):
I keep waiting for the surprise winby Detroit is coming. You know
it's coming, and this might beit, but I don't think I can
do it right now. Yeah, everything almost a line. That Cowboys game
was the yeah surprise, Hey theLions did it. The defense you know,
showed up after just co completely collapsing. It's like that, that was

(31:22):
it. That was the big rallyand they didn't close. They didn't get
it. Maybe they do it heretoo, you know. Obviously the Cowboys
overall are playing better than the Dolphins. Um, I do feel like the
first first full game back for too, I'm sorry, the second full game
back from two, it gets topractice all week as the starter. I
think that's I think they're going tobe better. Um, that three and

(31:44):
a half line. I don't usuallyput a lot of stock in Oh Vegas
by setting this line. I knowwhat Vegas is thinking, and they're they're
begging me to pick X. Butlike I'm gonna pick why because I'm not
gonna fall for their trap of themsetting a line that I think has value.
You know, like you're going waytoo far down the rabbit hole there.

(32:04):
But at three and a half,it's it's it's It's very tempting to
take the Lions and go, hey, yeah, maybe they lose by a
field goal, because I could seethat happening. But I still just think
there's too big a gap in talentand I'm going to have to go back
into wait to see it before Ibelieve it with this Lions team Cardinals,
I'm about to say the exact oppositething that I just said. Plus three

(32:27):
and a half at the Minnesota mygames, I think I'm gonna take the
Cardinals here. I don't have anygood reason for doing this. I don't
know what to do with this. You guys like I can't think of a
single logical argument that holds way overa logical argument I could make for the

(32:49):
other team involved here, no matterwhich direction you go in, like there's
a counterpoint to everything, And thisjust feels like a like dumb look like
the odd shaped ball bounces in oddways, who knows which way it will
go? Yeah, I think Idon't think I care very much about home
field for Minnesota, So I amgoing to take the Cardinals. Okay,

(33:14):
I am going to take the Cardinalsto cover for sure. They are four
and three against the spread Minnesota twoand four. Minnesota has been playing everybody
close. The Cardinals have fixed theoffense DeAndre Hopkins back. They are scoring
lots of points, maybe not enoughpoints to win, but they're scoring enough
points to keep it within three, which I think think happens. I'm going

(33:35):
to continue to lean on the Vikingsfind a way to win, even against
teams they should be beating easily Mojostraight up, but against the spread,
I will take the Cardinals to coverRaiders two and a half point favorites on
the road at the New Orleans Saints. What do you make of this,
Samantha? Is this one's bad too? Don't love this either? Also,

(33:59):
don't love the Raiders traveling historically truetrue, not a wonderful track record.
I think they are by far themore talented team of the two, but
I'm not sure I think they've reallyperformed all that much better. But I'm
like, I'm so so deeply outon like Andy Dalton in the entire Saints
situation right now personnel wise, thatI think I have to go Raiders,

(34:22):
But it scares the daylights out ofme. Tie, Yeah, and That's
where I'm at. I look atthe numbers, though Raiders are running the
ball really well the last couple ofgames. I think they've figured something out
offensively two that they weren't figuring outat the beginning of the year. At
my power Rakings say this should belike a six point game. I mean,

(34:43):
even if you give yeah, I'mgoing to think the Raiders, and
I think there's some value in thatline too. Patriots one and a half
point favorites at they at least untilthis week, Mighty New York Jets.
How do you break this down,Samantha. I would love to tell you
that I thought the Jets were goingto win this because it would be hilarious

(35:05):
and because Zach Wilson shirt could moveto five and out. But look,
Bill doesn't lose to, you know, teams that he bears old grudges against.
That's just not how it works. As unscientific of as that is,
it is also like very very true. And also, you know what else
Bill doesn't do. He doesn't loseback to that gate, and he certainly
doesn't lose another game after he gotembarrassed by a team that he should have

(35:27):
beaten. So unfortunately, and especiallywhen you take into consideration the way that
Bill just absolutely eats new quarterbacks alive. Justin Fields evaded it a week ago.
Zach Wilson will not be so lucky, and I will take the Patriots.
Yeah, I'm going to go tothe exact same way, especially with
no breeze haul, especially with noyou know, it's just now, that's

(35:50):
too many losses, and after whatthey did to the Lions and the Browns.
I picked against the Bears because Ithought the Paths had just like gotten
back to being the Pats where theydo not lose games they're supposed to win,
and the Bears or the exception. But I think they end up proving
the rule. I'm going with you. I'm taking the Pats all the way.
Steelers plus ten and a half pointsgoing east to the intrastate rival Philadelphia

(36:19):
Eagles. Undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, Samantha, the Eagles are better than the Steelers?
Are they ten and a half pointsbetter? Oh? That's tough.
And I'm also thinking about how I'mglad I'm not still like in school at
Penn State where there would be fistfightsbreaking out all over the place on Sunday.
Yikes. Yeah, Eagles Steelers veryreal, very ugly rivalry within the

(36:40):
state of Pennsylvania that, Yes,the Eagles are better, the Steelers are
bad. Are they Eagles going towin? Of course? Are they going
to win by ten and a half? Though? I think I'm going to
say no, Yeah, I thinkI think the Steelers can keep it closer
than that. So I will takePittsburgh against the spread. I'm struggling because

(37:01):
I know the Eagles can win thisgame by more than ten and a half.
I know they can they maybe evenprobably, but it's still a huge,
huge number, and it's so easyto get the back door here.
I will take the Steelers against thespread, but I'm prepared to be wrong.
And here we go, Titans minustwo at the Houston Texans. Fascinating.

(37:22):
We talked about all the AFC Southangles up at the beginning of this
show. How do you come downon this metho? Yeah, I think
this one's pretty This is the Titans. They are the better team. I'm
sure it will be closer than itshould be, or closer than we feel
like it should be when we're talkingabout probably the best and most teams respectively
in the division. But the gapis not that big. So, as

(37:43):
we talked about in the opening segment, Houston has been I plucky adjacent or
we want to go back to thatterm. Tennessee manages to take care of
business, but is extremely underwhelming whiledoing so. So, you know,
speaking of brewpub credit union architecture, sort of, the personality of this team

(38:04):
kind of lands in there two, doesn't it. But I'll take the Titaness
regardless. Yeah, the same here. The Texans are three two and one
against the spread, certainly plucky adjacent, but they have the number thirty two
rush defense and that and going againstthe Titans that is a bad, bad
thing. So I'm gonna take theTitans to win and to cover the two

(38:25):
on the road Commanders plus two anda half at the Indianapolis Colts the Carson
Wentz again, the stars are allaligned. We have Carson revenge bull after
they have already benched Matt Ryan, the man they replaced him with. Except
Carson Wentz is not playing Taylor Heinekis. It is this mutually, that's

(38:46):
not just mutually assured destruction. It'smutual destruction. Like they already both imploded.
So who wins? I everyone?Because Carson Wentz is not playing for
either side, y'all win? Ohmy goodness like the toxicity of Carson Wentz
and what is delivered everywhere he goescould be I could write a book about

(39:08):
that. But I'm going to continueto believe in football team as it has
been reincarnated as football team with TaylorHeineke in charge, who was underwhelming but
better than Carson Wentz. I likethe direction that football team is going in
right now, better than the Colts. So I'm going to take commander or

(39:31):
slash football team, slash the fightingkaylor Heinekes on this one. Yeah,
and it's it's plus two and ahalf, which if you give Indie two
and a half for home field advantage, that tells you Vegas thinks this is
a pick them. It's a toyincost, a little toyin cost coin cost
toss up, and I can't makeheads or tails of it either. I'm

(39:57):
I'm gonna go football team. I'mprobably gonna flip this before kick off.
I want to believe in Frank Raik. I want to believe there's a Sam
Ellinger package. I want to believethat we're going to see some wild stuff,
but I just don't know if that'sthe case. Forty nine ers one
and a half point favorites at theLA Rams. What do you think,
Samantha, I like the forty nineErs here. I mean, fans are

(40:21):
coming off of a bye and theforty nine ers are coming off of a
loss and game that they probably weshould have shown out better even if we
didn't necessarily expect them to win.So I think we'll get a little bit
of a bounce back here. Also, historically, the Rams have had a
lot of trouble recently in this matchup, So I think I like the forty

(40:43):
nine ers, and we all knowthere is no home field advantage in LA.
Yeah, for sure, I'm takingthe forty nine ers as well.
Bad matchup all the way around.I think LA it's gotta make a move.
Giants plus three at the Seattle Seahawks. Again, fascinating line, Giants
and they're all six of their winscoming into Seattle. What do you think?

(41:07):
So what's the line? Okay?So the Giants are three point underdogs
going into Seattle. Okay, sothat's a pickup basically pretty much? Yes,
okay, which I mean, raiseyour hand if you had like Giants
for Seahawks as like potentially outstanding matchup. Yeah, for the I mean,

(41:32):
wow, wow, Um, thisis wild. H. I don't believe
in the Seattle home field advantage theway that some people do. Um.
I think both of these teams areprobably frauds ultimately, although I am also
impressed by them both with what they'vebeen able to do with what they have
sort of in hand. So it'skind of like who's the first to crack?

(41:57):
I sort of like the like damapproach to this is says it's the
Giants because they just they got tolose sooner or later, right, and
Seattle has lost in that span.So I think I'm gonna take Seattle,
but I hate it. It makesme super nervous. This is a scay
away to me. I guess yeah. Um. Funny funny note the Giants

(42:22):
and Seahawks I have the same recordagainst the spread as they do in real
life six and course they do.And when when you said, uh,
you know, who would have guessedthat? You know, my brain kind
of went towards who would have guessedthat? I thought you're gonna say that
whould have guessed? The Giants andSeahawks would be basically a toss up at
this point, and well, lotsof people would have guessed. They just

(42:43):
wouldn't have guessed that it was thesix and one Giants and the four and
three Seahawks. They thought two terribleteams that happened to be evenly masstulum,
you know, and there, andthey're they're mirror images of each other,
right pretty much, because the Seahawkshave a really high flying band balanced offense.
Kenneth Walker, the third hashtag Spartandog, is doing great things on

(43:04):
the ground, much weaker defense.Giants are stronger on defense than offense,
but a little a little closer tothe middle on both. Slick you go
down this list, and I Amgoing to take the Seahawks here to win
as well as to cover, partiallybecause I think the Giants are playing more
over their skis than the Seahawks are, although I didn't check the Sea injury

(43:27):
report. If DK metcalf is goingto be good to go, that could
I could honestly flip my pick, especially against the spread if he isn't.
But let's get to Sunday Night Football, your big show. Samantha Samantha,
for those who don't know, isa content director for NBC Sports. She
is typically in the booth for SundayNight Football. Cannot pick the game,

(43:50):
but can tell you how she thinksit's gonna go. So, Samantha,
how do you think it's gonna go? I think this is going to go
about as badly for Green Bay asthe last couple of weeks when they played
far worse teams than Buffalo and alsolooked awful. I mean, if you
can't stay out in front of Washingtonfootball team, then what on earth do

(44:10):
you think you're going to do withBuffalo. I think this is going to
be a slaughter. Yeah, Istruggle so much. It's the exact same
thing with Steelers Eagles, right, only possibly even more so because I think
that I think the Bills are betterthan the Eagles. I'm not sure about
Packers Steelers. Packers might be betterthan the Steelers. I don't know.
I'm just not seeing it. AaronRodgers has shown no reason to believe that

(44:36):
he's going to give us any kindof Aaron Rodgers this, and they just
don't have any hope If they don'thave that ten and a half points again,
I just can't. I don't wantto lay that big a number.
I could easily see them back toor covering but I am going to in
this case, I'm going to takethe Bills straight up and it gets the
spread because the numbers are just toobig. The Bills are just too good.

(44:59):
This is too big spot. Andif Aaron Rodgers makes a fool of
me, so be it, becauseI think Josh Allen is probably going to
make a fool of Aaron Rodgers.Bengals three and a half point favorites at
the Cleveland Browns. This is thebattle fro Hio samitha Hoo. Do you
like the Bengals. I just haven'tseen enough out of their Browns this season.

(45:21):
Their defense has been truly awful, and I think the Bengals are really
poised to take advantage of that.I will you know add a caveat here
that you know AFC North in primetime. This is major like Chaos Bowl,
right, like you could get somethingreally weird but ultimately weird or not.
I still expect the Bengals to comeout on top of this one. And

(45:42):
I think cover as well. Yeah, I agree. I think I think
Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase I figuredit back out. Zach Taylor has figured
it back out. That team ishot. They can be streaky. You
know they're streaky. Last year coldand hot and cold and then hot and
won the Super Bowl. I thinkthey're on the street right now and I
will take them to win as wellas to cover the three and a half
on the road. Guys, it'sbeen a fantastic big show, had a
