the answer questions, whatever it is, we'll get right going on our topic.
Yeah, Samantha soft partner in acheese head hat. What do you
have to say about that? Ilove to see it, just tremendous.
(01:21):
I have a lot of logistical questionslike how did you get that? How
does want to get ahold of acheese hat on the sideline of a game
when one is not a member ofThree Bay Packers who were losing to the
New York Jets. Tremendous sidebar ZachWilson sure is now three you know for
those keeping check at home, ButI thought it was worth talking about.
(01:41):
And we can talk about the gametoo, which is also an interesting conversation
to be able to think about theboth the Jets and the Packers. But
this business with the cheese had, like you guys know, my one of
my long standing grapes is in theNFL takes itself entirely too seriously and that
maybe we should all have a littlebit of fun, like relax and stop
free out and the outrage because thisguy dare to put on the talent manic.
(02:06):
Oh my goodness, I you wouldthink that he Oh my gosh.
It's like remember that incident we had, like I think it was two years
ago when the Ravens, which justincense because somebody stepped on their logo.
Oh the horror, Like oh yeah. It reminds me of like when you
go to summer camp and they haveto be the flag ceremony and there's also
don't drop the flag. Drop flag. We at the burning and you're all
(02:30):
freaked out because seven and you're like, actually, it's my life over if
I dropped the flag and they haveto burn the flag, and then I'm
the guy who like, oh mygosh, like this is just ridiculous,
Like yeah, I found a packersaying of course I ate that, right,
Like yeah, but like guess what, Like this is all like a
good fun and you don't have tolike it if you're on the wrong end
(02:51):
of it. I mean, winningcares everything. Losing makes everybody salty.
And I don't blame me Almazard forgoing up and knocking off set. That's
part of the fun too, right, But the idea that this is somehow
like a gross violation of someone's likewhat feelings is the feelings that works out
about packers fans here like it didit? It hurts your feelings? Like
is that what we're doing? Likecomment lighting up It's fine. Yeah,
(03:16):
I guarantee that ninety nine point ninepercent of the people like it's It's a
ven diagram. It's just a perfectcircle of the people who are upset about
him wearing a cheesehead in some previousmoment on social media where like you know,
fu snowflakes, f your feelings, like they will absolutely be like oh
(03:38):
yeah, oh yeah, yea, yeah, you you want your your pronouns
in your safe space, and thenlike dot dot dot five years later will
be like, how dare he wearthe precious cheese on his head? Um?
This is this is akin and ifyou rerund this like ten years ago
that the I don't know if theywere the first team to do it,
(04:00):
but I remember seeing some Lions brandedCheese Greater hats and like I thought,
oh, yeah, fun, Yes, I've seen him in Minnesota, I've
seen him in Chicago since then,so like I thought, this is a
really fun thing. And then likeI posted the picture on social media and
Packer fans were really upset, likehow dare you? And this is like
(04:23):
a story tradition and you're being solike aggressive, Like I think, generally
speaking, and I bet friend ofthe show Aaron Eagler would agree with this
wholeheartedly, full throadedly. There isa very big segment of Packer fans that
take themselves way too seriously. Again, the vast majority, I think are
(04:44):
fine. I probably if if youhad to pick the fan base that I
spend the most time, like palingaround with after the Lions, it's got
to be the Packers. You know, I've been on Cheesehead TV, I've
done tons of Wisconsin radio. Theytend to like me. But there's a
small group that takes themselves away tooseriously. And you know who doesn't This
(05:04):
iteration of the Jets, and Ikind of love it, like I love
Breeze Hall, I love a SauceGardner. And I've had this for a
couple of weeks now, this ideathat they're kind of morphing into like the
not so great but still pretty goodSteelers teams of like the PREBN Marathisburgher era.
(05:26):
I continue to just see everything thatI thought I was going to see
when this new regime took over. And now they've started to get young talent.
It's really fun to watch. Andthe point was made on Good Morning
America this morning, like when youlook at all like the terrible Jets stuff
at the past, you're now dealingwith a Jets team that was mostly in
(05:46):
grade school, like second grade whena lot of that stuff happened. Yeah,
they don't know, they don't pare. They're just having a whole lot
of fun play at football and it'skind of great. Yeah. And I'm
of two minds of course with this, because like I believe fandom is important,
you know, and I believe thissilly, goofy stuff that doesn't matter
is important weirdly, you know whatI mean, Like I believe that that
(06:11):
the stuff that we care about wecare about, but also like it very
quickly goes from being Okay, well, it's awesome to care about it,
and it's awesome for it to meansomething to you. It sucks to think
it's the end of the world orthat it's it's you know, deeply meaningful
in a very real way. Um, there's some there're examples, you know,
throughout recent history where like it's it'sfun once or funny a couple of
(06:35):
times, then its like, uhthen the example I always bring up this
Michigan State had this thing about tenyears ago or they're like plant the flag.
It was it was the first happenedorganically because they defended I think it
was just beat Michigan at home kindof a thing and like grab the state
flag and like planet it at midfieldand yeah, like planet flag, this
is our turf, and then likethey did it on the road and we're
(06:59):
like, yeah, we would likeplant our flag in your midfield, and
then we plant our flag. Andthen it started being this thing where like
both teams are like repped up tolike plant the flag and prevent planting the
flag. So like now there's likea rugby scrum in the middle of the
field where like squads have prepared tolike both prevent and enable the flag planting.
(07:24):
Okay, this this quickly spiral forbeing like a really cool thing to
be unbelievably stupid, and it ithas to die now. And that that
that took like five weeks to growfrom like fun into stupid in terms of
what we care about. And Ilike that same sort of thing where it's
like, okay, look, Iunderstand why uh you know the Cowboys were
(07:48):
cheesed off at to for standing onthe Cowboys star. But like I mean,
ultimately, and you play defense, like if you don't like sauce Gardner
wearing a cheese on your sideline, beat a team that you should beat,
Packers that you were favored by atouchdown, Like what what do you ted?
(08:11):
Come on? Play better? Football. Well, yeah, exactly.
And I think that the big problemwith it, and the thing that really
bugs me about is it's not thefact that they're upset about this, like
you should be upset, Like that'sbeing a good fan, right, Like
this guy beat you, he embarrassedyou, he's wearing your hat. You
should be upset. My problem isthat the same people who take it too
far, who get too aggressive aboutthis is an outrage, like, oh
(08:35):
my goodness, this person is committeda grave moralson are the same people who
get nasty and aggressive at other timeswhen they are winning and are not particularly
great as winners, and who dothe same thing in the other direction.
And this is I think it's agrowing problem in NFL fans, this sort
(08:56):
of like very like tribal aggression thatwe're seeing now that is worse than it's
ever been, and it's worse whatsome teams than others. And the packers
are fans are not the biggest defendersof this at all, um And in
a shoddy putting out, most ofthem are fine. But there is a
segment here that it's just taking itsway too seriously. But and and I
agree with you, Gi, Ithink there's a point where it's it's kind
of like storming the field in collegefootball, Like this was great and it's
(09:20):
so fun to see when it's likea bowl game or a hugely important conference
game. But now like we haveincidents where there are teams where four or
five times a year people will stormthe field over like a week conference opponent
and you, yeah, do itlike and this is not so I think
that perhaps some of this needs tobe Okay, it was the thing and
(09:46):
now we need to let it go. But mostly I think it's just that,
um, it's it's got to beokay, you're upset, you put
on your hat, like play betterfootball. That's what it comes down to
in the end. And credit tothe Jets for getting out there and playing
at half of the game seriously, and I think we're we're sort of dialing
back on you know, also wearsthe line on all of this because this
(10:09):
is just a fun thing. Andeven Ellen's are like going up and knocking
it off. It's not like heshoves sauce. He just kind of went
up and flipped the tip of hiscap and it came off. Because it's
a it's an overgrown cheef like allof this is very comical, but I
think, you know, tie,you know, the going to plant a
flag in the on the midfield, and the sort of you know, gathering
(10:30):
arms and like making sure we weyou know, defend the middle of the
field. Like those are moments thatyes, it kind of can start as
a lighthearted and like a fun thing, and yes, just beat him and
you'll stop it. All that stuffis still true, but then it also
has the potential for so much moreand you know, again different level,
(10:50):
different sort of thing. But coachingthis past weekend was the first time I
actually felt physically in danger in agame situation because the and our away game
was so salty. And when acop turns to me and says, you
guys just need to leave as quicklyand as quietly as possible, like I
think that's where the line is forme. Like, and moments like that,
you don't do the stupid stuff, even if it's meant to be lighthearted
(11:13):
like this, this is this isa controlled, fun, little exciting situation.
Wearing a cheese grater on your headis a fun little you know,
you know, typical, potentially annoying, but no one's going to get be
in danger. You know, it'sit's it's the moments where it can go
from being fun and exciting and cheekyand all of that when it takes a
(11:35):
turn towards like aggressive and you know, the potential for so much more.
I think we can all agree that, you know, you wish stuff like
that didn't have to be a policebut it usually does. And it's probably
why out taunting because people are idiotsand people respond in really idiotic ways,
like a balance already punched, youknow, safce guarded. We'd be having
(11:58):
a totally different conversation this morning abouthow stupid almas Art is, which you'd
also have the opposite of, likewell he baited him by blah blah blah.
Like if it's fun, if it'scheeky, absolutely do it. I
still go back to absolutely loving youknow, every terrello and special celebration.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, like it. Stop it. If you
(12:18):
don't like the dance and stop it. If you don't like the team rowing
of the boat in the end zone, stop it. You know, just
beat him and they don't do it. But at the end of the day,
like stuff like this is why wewatched the game and Sauce Gardner to
me, and I don't want thisto sound like demoralizing or like infantilizing,
but he just looks like this littlekid having fun. He just looks like
(12:39):
this dude. Maybe it's because I'mbeing older, but he just looks like,
I'm a really good football player andI'm out here to have fun and
you're not gonna stop me. Andyou know, I'm gonna go eat ten
thousand brats in Chicago and I'm gonnago, you know, you know,
eat barbecue and arrowhead like he's justhe's just on his own world tour.
And we're not gonna we absolutely arenot. We are going to keep going,
(13:03):
get lots of football to talk about. Very exciting Sunday. I think
we thought this could have been thescore at halftime of this game. Bills
twenty four, Chiefs twenty Buffalo Bills. You know, get get vengeance a
little bit before last year's playoff game. This is kind of a circle game
he had at the beginning of theyear. Bills stand tall, shatty.
(13:24):
You wanted to take the first dipson this, so it's the floor is
yours? Yeah, and I doubledipped on the last one. When I
probably shouldn't have. So I'll makethis quick and I'll pose the question to
you guys, like, there's avery good chance that this ends up being
another you know, AFC playoff matchup, and this was a very very good
(13:46):
game. Did you guys expect thedefenses to play the way they did?
Did you guys expect this is sortof be the defensive showcase that it was?
And question B, is there abetter player in the NFL right now
that Josh Allen? I'll start withquestions to you because that is the easiest
one. No, there is not. There is nobody better than gosh out
(14:07):
right, which just been tremendous andso much fun to watch in such an
easy guy to rupport. So Paulto the good asking the defense is Yeah,
I was extremely surprised by this, even I think it's ring to staying
on like about I don't know alittle bit into the second quarter and there
was no score and you're like, why, look as it scampy right,
(14:28):
this is let the score for adifferent game on the one really and it
was shocking, um how well thesedefenses played, Um, particularly on on
Kansas City side. I thought thatreally go yeah, um, This was
not at all the game that wewere expecting. I think that the closeness
of it and sort of the spiritof it was sure, absolutely, but
(14:50):
you know, we're all expecting likethe you know, like forty eight to
forty six. Barn Burner, who'sgot the ball? Asked, that's what
we saw, asked Farman, AndI think we could easily see that again
out of these two teams. Ithink that's important to point out. It's
it's not that they have both changedso much that now we're we have a
different brand of football at a differentbrand of matchup. It was just an
odd game. And like credits tothese guys, and particularly I know Kansas
(15:13):
City lost, so I don't wantto be singing their praises too much because
all credits go to the Bills forgoing into Arrowhead and beating the Chiefs.
That's no easy task. They've They'vedone that twice now, I think josh
n said it twice now. Theonly person to do that to Capahomes in
Arrowhead, I believe, so prettysignificant accomplishment. But really, I mean
the Kansas City defense, which ifthere was a unit involved in this game
(15:35):
that we were worried about how theywould fare going into it. It was
that and they actually putted themselves prettywell. So Buffalon's the time veraper Now.
I think it was sort of themoral victory, you know, alongside
the real victory that the Bills neededand needed it more than the Chiefs because
of what happened to them in thepostseason last year. But very very interesting
and give us some things to thinkabout before we most likely see this match
(16:00):
up again in the postseason. Isgoing to go a little differently than we
would have all guessed that it wouldhave. Yeah, and I'm gonna say
this, uh, kind of injest, but maybe not really. Von
Miller, this is playing unbelievably well. Yeah, he's not even He's probably
not even the best pass rusher thisyear. Is probably like a Parsons,
(16:22):
But it's worth noting the impact thathe had to your point, shoddy,
Uh, did I expect this fromthe Chiefs defense? Note? I expect
this from the Bill defense. Maybe. Um, it was fascinating to see
these two defenses go toe to toeand make great plays. You know,
sometimes that scoreline can be deceiving.I feel like there's a lot of games
(16:45):
this year, there's been a lotof halftimeish times. I'm looking on towards
the end of the second quarter orearly third quarter, I've pulled up the
NFL scoreboard and seen a lot ofzero zeros, going huh, app's not
updating. Oh no, wait,Commander has just kicked a field goal.
Yes it is okay if it reallyhas been zero zero this all time.
(17:07):
So it's it's great defensive play. It's not bad offensive play. You know,
Alan and Mahomes are not not playingbad. The weapons didn't fail to
show up. This is just defendersgoing out and just making plays, great
tackles for lost, sniffing plays outand then forcing these quarterbacks to adjust.
And you know both of them,Alan and the Homes where we're doing what
they do and playing their game. And then you have the play that sealed
(17:30):
at the pick that sealed it.Miller break, you know, creates this
pressure, blows this play up.The Homes gets away from it, gets
off a pass, just doesn't havetime to see safety closing in on the
play make that interception. You know, it's like the ball was a dime.
The pass is right on target, you just didn't see the guy coming
up to snag it from the otherside. So I love how this went
(17:52):
down. I love it was agreat game to watch. It was a
tough fun But we can coin flipthis all day long for me, you
know, winning cats that then andthe Bills had the tiebreaker, and Bills
have the head to head and thisis gonna matter. But in the playoffs,
I'm still gonna think this is acoin toss. This is who gets
ball less until three even otherwise, and that's that's where I'm at as well.
(18:19):
I think the defenses for both ofthese teams have gotten better by design
this season, and both teams havesort of worked towards more of a ball
control way of looking at the gamebecause of what every coach in the world
we'll see is an out of controlsituation. You don't want games to end
(18:41):
like last year's playoff game. Youwant the ability to just get the stop
and win that in the third quarter, win that in the fourth quarter,
and impose your will. And asfun as this to watch games like that,
it is absolutely hell to go intogames like that and to know that
your defense can't. And so that'swhy von Miller and the Bills had a
very you know, harmonious coming togetherbecause it was like, I want to
(19:04):
play for a really good team, but we want a really good impact defender,
and it just made all the sensein the world. And so it's
by definition that this is a lowerscore than it was last season. But
I think you're right that that whenpush comes to shove and you've got teams
that are looking to push the envelopea little bit, you've also got teams
that are probably holding stuff in thebag because you know, if we don't
need it for this game, wewon't use it for this game sort of
(19:26):
thing. I think we could endup seeing, you know, just a
crazy you know, shootout scoring lastball wins in the playoffs again. And
the only thing that keeps us frombeing a rematch is the rest of the
AFC is better than last year. The rest of the AFC has a bunch
of teams that could end up upsettingone of these teams. Not that I'm
(19:47):
saying they're better than the Chiefs andthe Bills, but it could happen.
And absolutely, Josh Allen is analien. He's playing better football than anyone
on the planet. I don't thinkit's particularly close. All right, we
gotta get one more key takeaway inthose who don't know how this is going
to reset it. Three and out. We're a national NFL podcast. We
go twice a week Monday mornings. We do a live reaction show, break
(20:08):
everything down, have one key takeawayeach of us three analysts, and every
game that we didn't talk about,we do a whipper up and get you
one key takeaway from each other game. Guys, I want to go Giants
twenty four Ravens twenty and I won't. I almost want to talk about it
more about the Giants versus the Ravens. I'm stressed about the Ravens. They
(20:30):
were my team of destiny and they'relooking exactly like the team they were last
year, despite having so much moretalent back from injury, despite having so
much more young talent coming in thedoor. They're gonna take every single team
they play to the last five minutesand deserve to win, and sometimes they
will and sometimes they won't. That'sa little bit scary. They out rushed
(20:53):
the Giants two hundred and eleven toeighty three, significantly fewer carries. They
out past Giants two hundred ten yardstwo one hundred and seventy three to almost
double the totally guardage. There's oneturnover right at the end that made the
difference. They couldn't put the booton the throat and Brian Stafles New York
Giants are five and one. Samantha, how much is this for real and
(21:18):
how much this is an illusion?Well, we've been saying for weeks now
that like, oh this isn't real, like good for the Giants would be
better than we thought they would be, but they're not really legit, like
how many games they have to winbefore we're like, okay, you know
what, like maybe we have totake these days seriously. Part of the
problem, I think was that theyweren't really playing quality upon it, so
it was a little bit difficult tojudge. We could say, okay,
(21:41):
well, it's pretty easy to getto four and one if you're let's say,
in the average football team when youare playing decidedly below average teams.
But now they're going up against theRavens and it there's probably a conversation we
had about how good the Ravens reallybased on the way that they've performed this
season, which has not been great. But it's also pretty typical for See
North teams, you know, theshiny sellar record is generally not how that
(22:06):
one goes. Even when the teamsin that division do tend to go deep
at the postseason, it's not necessarilybecause they have put on a clinic in
the regular season. So okay, fine, But at what point do we
look at the Giants and say,all right, you know what, like
this is like we gotta start givingsome credit. And I will say I
think the Ravens played a bad gameand sort of negating my own argument here
(22:27):
by saying this, like, theRavens did not do what they needed to
do. They let the Giants backinto this game after they pretty much had
control of it, and you know, Lamar Jackson did not play his best
football. So okay, um,I think, yeah, I don't know
that we're going to look at theGiants at the end of the season go
who knew they were sets really goodfootball team and they're gonna what is turning
(22:51):
out to be a surprisingly tough divisionas well. So I don't really see
them as is ultimately showing up atthe end of this year. But if
you're a Giant fan, like beexcited because things aren't looking up. I
think that guys, who we've beenwaiting to see more out of like Daniel
Jones and set Juan barc Beier arestarting to do exactly that This defense is
(23:11):
will be a lot better than ithas in a very long time. And
Brian Gable looks like a very verygood head coach, which is probably the
most encouraging thing to come out ofall of this. So things are going
to get better for the Giants, and they're going to get better a lot
quicker than anybody thought. And whetherthey're truly the exceptional football team this season
(23:32):
or not, in leaning towards youor not, the future feels very very
great. So I think this iscool. Yeah, they're doing some really
really good things offensively without Canaris Tony, who was a very highly touted draft
pick just a year ago, WithoutKnigalady, who was a very highly touted
(23:55):
free agent just a year ago.Very very clear now for six weeks that
those two are not part of Briandables plans at least that is currently constructed
that as a team is currently built. So it's kind of where at the
point where it's like, what happensto these Giants when he gets his guys,
because he just got in here andyou know there are some very highly
(24:18):
paid, you know costs, abunch of draft capital kind of guys that
he's stuck with that he's just has, you know, an active coach's decision
on Sundays because he didn't have hisguys yet. And it's almost starting to
get scary from that perspective. Andthe Giants fans that I know and love
are feeling a little bit cocky aboutthat point. I know, I know,
it's it's weird to think of Giantsfans being cocky after I don't know,
(24:42):
like a whole decade of it inthe two thousands. But they're back,
and they dusted off their jerseys andthey're really excited about Brian Dable and
company after not being excited for awhile. This is a scary team.
And I don't want to talk aboutthe Ravens. I think the Ravens are
still like this enigma that continues toplay really poorly at various times, even
(25:06):
though you just know that at hisbest, if anyone, and what I
said earlier about Josh Allen is true, but at his best, Lamar Jackson
kind of sort of looks like thathe's on that same same boat. I
mean, he's not hurtling guys likeJosh Allen did yesterday, but it's off
the close. The Giants, though, like weird things like Sequon Barkley was
(25:30):
absolutely bottled up in the first halfand then just oh wait, I'm one
of the best football players on theplanet. Let's do this thing. And
his second half was amazing, Likeit was the polar opposite. Sorry Samantha
of Penn State on Saturday, itwas just he like put the team on
his back and all of a suddenwas boom, there we go. And
(25:52):
Wanda Robertson, who is literally likethe poor man's version of Kedarius Tony,
had a fantastic game. Daniel Jonesdidn't play fantastic, but then it was
like five or five in a drivein the fourth quarter like this. Seams
playing really good football. They're nota bunch of really good football players.
I think they're very average or aboveaverage football players. But they're playing really
(26:14):
really good football, and teams likethat gets scared. Teams like that are
teams you don't want to face.I think if I had to put like
a pin right now in the NFCEast, I would say the Eagles are
the much better football team, Butgosh, darnett, the Giants might be
playing better football. Yeah, andguys, you look at the next eight
games. It's at the Jags,at the Seahawks, they get to five,
(26:38):
then they have home against the Texans, home against the Lions, at
the Cowboys, and then Commanders,Eagles, Commanders. So like, you
know, you catch some breaks. Not all those teams are pushovers, and
they could just as easily, youknow, lose a tonk of them.
But you could be talking about aeven three at Christmas. You know,
(27:02):
you can be talking about nine, ten, eleven wins towards the end of
the season here, and that's that'swild. You look at it at that
point, doesn't matter if you're forreal or for not. You know,
right now, um, they're eighteenthscoring offense, seventh rank scoring defense.
With their point differential after six games, they should have three and a half
wins basically if you go by expectedwins. Um. So you know,
(27:25):
a lot of the metrics here pointtowards this being a five hundred team or
thereabouts. It just how they've playedso far, won a lot of close
games. But at some point, like again, just having those wins in
the bag means something, and itmeans something for a team that has needed
a direction, has needed confidence, you know, like he said, Shaddy,
they're cruising on like Eli Manning papers, since there were all that was
(27:48):
left of Eli Manning but papers onthe field, you know, Dave Ketelman
took over. It's like, no, we're doubling down on Eli. It's
it's the Eli Show. We're takingthe the clearly rotting corpse of Eli Manning's
arm and we're just building around it. Um. You know that since then,
they've been coasting on that. HIt's exciting to see. And I
(28:11):
think through New York, I thinkhaving both the Jets and Giants being good
at the same time right now,it's huge for the league. Um yeah.
Having both New York teams be perenniallybad for a decade is almost as
bad in terms of media as therebeing no teams in LA. Right.
I'm just I'm just happy. I'mjust happy that that city gets a break.
(28:32):
They really they've been done on theblock late late, like no one's
been talking about them. That's reallya city that yeah, you know,
heart and soul, heartland of America. Sorry, So finally the Big Apple

National NFL podcast, We're back onthree and out your National NFL podcast.
(29:15):
It is our Key Takeaways Monday MorningReaction show, doing it live on Twitter
spaces like we always do. Youheard our big three key takeaways coming out
of the weekend. We're gonna whiparound the whole league every single game,
give you something real quick, justsomething you need to know, take away
from every single game. And technicallythis was a game, so technically we
have to talk about a Commander's twelveBears seven Smith, it was your key
(29:37):
takeaway from this? I don't believethis was game. You can't comment that
this was a construct Yeah, okay, believe it. There Falcon's twenty eight
forty nine ers fourteen Jelny. Howabout you. Yeah, yeah, this
this is we We all said thatthe Saltons or the Earth sorry, the
(30:00):
forty Niners of the team that theFalcons want to be, and maybe it
just happened like the Falcons, whohave been approaching, you know, moderate
levels of pluck all season long, are now suddenly beating better teams, Like
this is the thing that's happening, guys. Yeah, I don't think this
means much for the forty nine ers. You saw a lot of San Francisco
folks panicking over this. It's like, you, guys, this is what
(30:22):
your team does. They played downto opponents frequently, and every once in
a while somebody gets out in frontof them. So not a great game
from the forty nine ers three itultimately, don't think it's super concerning.
But what if you're the Falcons, you gotta be a little bit excited,
right. I'm not sure that theyou know, second coming of Marcus Mariota
is really going to be in alot to the future of this franchise.
But you know, good for themfor going out there and I think being
(30:44):
a lot better than really any ofus gave them credit for coming to this
season. Yeah, and again sixweeks into the season. Is not the
strongest metric strength for a lot ofthese yet again expected wins Giants three point
four, Falcons three point three, driven by how many points they've scored,
how many points they've allowed last year. The Falcons, they owe about it.
Five thirty eight. We're one ofthe like luckiest teams ever in terms
(31:08):
of getting wins out of you know, scoring differential. They had a chance
to be like free team that gotmore wins out of worse scoring results of
all time this time. If anything, there their wins are under what their
performances have been. Arthur Smith hasfigured out how to make Marcus Mariota a
(31:29):
thing, which is surprising because nobodyelse has figured it out. And again,
this is a team now that hassome direction, that has a vision,
that has an identity, and isgoing out and executing in a way
that we haven't seen in years withthis team. I'm very excited for the
Falcons, but I'm a little distressedabout those forty nine Ers team. I
(31:49):
picked the Falcons to cover a fiveand a half point spread here, but
I did not think the forty ninech loose by two touchdowns. Again.
Patriots thirty eight Round fifteen. Samantha, what's your key takeaway from this?
All Right, Bill Belichick's grudge holdingknows no bounds. It just it goes
(32:09):
on for years. I mean,we all know that he sleeps in the
office and he's there twenty four hoursa day. But when there's a grudge
match like this, somebody fired himand he's there forty eight hours a day,
and you know, he's chopping offfingers and toes and giving him to
a trio of macbethy. And whichis to make these things happen? Because
Bill is not going to lose tothe team that did not take him along
(32:31):
when they ran off to Baltimore inthe night and the Browns. So I
mean, okay, yes, Belichickrevengeure, absolutely that is that's a factor
here. But also the Browns completelyembarrassed themselves. I mean they were bad
and Jakobe Bursett had his first truebad outing of the season. Not much
(32:52):
you can do about that, butthat defense. I mean, it's we
have to talk about firing jo was. You have to. It's been so
bad had And yes, a lotof it is execution on the part of
the players mouth scaring out a horribleteam supposed to be the leader of the
defense and basically did not show up. The guys of the secondary looked like
they were quitting. But a lotof things, when you put them together,
(33:13):
look like bad coaching, look likethe kind of coach who you cannot
sort of keep his squad focused andmotivated. So it's there's some big questions.
I think the Browns have to askthemselves about what they need to do
going forward on the defensive side ofthe ball to prevent things like this were
happening. Yeah, my key takeawayis that at this point, the Texans
(33:34):
have two top five draft picks becauseof how bad the Browns have been without
the quarterback, without Seaun Watson, and I don't think that's gonna hold.
But if you're the Texans right now, who are sort of like playing better
football than the Browns, maybe lookbetter coach than the Browns, You're definitely
not as good of a team asthe Browns, but you're looking at two
(33:55):
top five currently probably two top tenpicks going into and you're looking at the
Eagles and being like, we coulddo that, Well, we can do
that now, it's stupid, they'renot going to But like, if I
look at both of these teams thatI don't think this tells me anything of
the Patriots, because again, you'rebeating a really bad Browns team. You
got all of that Bill Belichick mojothat that Samantha's talking about they probably lost
two games earlier in the season becauseBill's looking forward to this one instead.
(34:20):
Bailey Zappy is not the quarterback ofthe future. He's not the offensive rookie
of the year, even though he'ssort of playing that way right now.
None of that's true. Like this, this game is just a gigantic barage.
If I'm looking at these two teams, I am looking at the Texans
coming out on top. Yeah,And I guess for my part, this
just means Bill Belichick is still agood coach. Right against the Lions,
(34:43):
against the Browns, it's this dudecan still game plan. This guy can
still take a team that has flawsand exploit those flaws. He can still
take a team that does one ortwo things well and deny them those one
or two things and and be justa really obnoxious team to play against and
feeling like victory is impossible with himon the sideline. Also, probably the
(35:07):
key takeaway a meme is the therookie special team or trying to hand the
ball to Bill Belichick in gratitude atBill Belichick being like, what am I
going to do with the get thiskid out of my face? Extremely extremely
funny, someone that it had realbig Give dad the macaroni necklace. I
(35:28):
made the vibes, which this isjust a hilarious way of describing it.
We gotta move on, Colts thirtyfour, Jack's twenty seven, Matt Ryan
with the go Bigger, go home, gotta have it touched down to put
them on top. Fascinating here shottykey takeaway from this. I'm going to
(35:49):
talk about the other end of thattouchdown because Alec Piers looked like what I
think Alec Piers can look like onsuch a more consistent basis. But I
don't think he looks that way. He's injured. I don't think he looks
that way as a rookie. Idon't think he looks that way with Matt
Ryan as his quarterback long term. But they're they're they're shadows. There are
there are moments where I see whatI had seen had Cincinnati from Alec Peers,
(36:14):
and I think he's gonna be areally really good player. This is
this is a better cool steam thanthey're currently showing, and they got to
figure out why. Yeah, Ithink what looked like a borderline absolutely catastrophe
situation in Indianapolis is now looking morelike, wow, we gotta do it
slow start, we need to youdisagree, you disagree? No no,
(36:36):
no, that was a oh nottoo bad look at and one yeah right
exactly. Now now we're part ofthe mediocre Bowl with like half the teams
in the league. Right, Somy long shot Super Bowl team went from
like unwatchably back to incredibly mediocre, which is the next step in the process.
So you know they're moving along.Um, I still think this team
(37:00):
has a lot of problems. Us. It was good to see them win
a divisional game because that was lookinglike a thing that was maybe never going
to happen there for a while. So good to see that. But mostly
I think that to me, thisteam still looked, you know, even
in lusage aids of it this week, like they kind of don't have an
offensive identity. Um, even thoughyou know this is why you brought in
(37:22):
Matt Ryan right like and to propthis up, the offensive minds still having
a lot of problems. Is definitelyencouraged by what we saw out of the
passing game, looking better than theyhave in weeks. But I also,
you know, I think we haveto flip this around a little bit too
and say, Okay, did weall get like way too excited about Jacksonville
for like a week or two. They're like, mm yeah, going in
(37:43):
the right direction, but not thereyet. Yeah, that's that's where I
was gonna go ut in scoring offense, ninth in scoring defense, and it
was the defense that let them downagainst the cult offense that has been miserable
for the most part this year.Dana, this is a team. Remember
Jack's blanked to twenty four zero inweek two and now lose thirty four to
(38:07):
twenty seven. You know, thingschange in a month, but not that
much. And you know, TrevorLawrence keeps giving you reasons to believe that
he's growing and reasons to believe thathe is on the right track, and
then continues to play like a guywho had a lost rookie year, and
it's having a real rookie year thisyear. Defensively, you've got more talent
(38:28):
than that. You shouldn't be losingto a team that's then you're giving up
thirty four points to this edition ofMatt Bryan. All right, Vikings twenty
four Dolphins sixteen. Oh my goodness, I have thoughts, but Samantha,
I want to hear yours first.I'll be quick because I want to hear
what you have to say about this. But to me, this is like,
look, I'll stick with the Vikingstop here, which is that this
(38:51):
is Minnesota doing exactly what they alwaysdo. Like, yes, Miami's at
full strength, they lose this game. If they're not, then they're able
to take a manage of the situation. So this is like premiere perfect example
of like you know, Vikings trademark, here's what we do. Yeah,
and I'll even go the more positiveversion of that is like Dalvin Cook at
(39:15):
himself, the day at Alvin Cook, Delvin Cook at himself, some moments
that you expect out of Dalvin Cook. The other problem is that doesn't happen
if two is in the game andthe Dolphins are up two touchdowns, because
then you have to put that ballin the Hansaker Cousins instead, and that's
not the game that Dalvin Cook getsto have. So it goes back I
think all of us basically said thatif if two is not playing this game,
(39:35):
the Vikings are winning, that's exactlythe character that this game happen.
Yeah, and I could go foreveron Vikes and also on Dolphins. Has
meant that exactly the same thing withthe Vikings. The Vikings were the ravens
of the NFC, which is playingeverybody close. Last year they just lost
a lot more than they won,and this year there's been a little bit
of that regression. They are playingeverybody close, including teams that they have
(40:00):
no business playing close, and theythey have found a way to win the
five and one almost every single time. But this team is not as good
as their record shows, which isweird because their talent. It's like they
are underperforming the talent that they have, but they are overperforming their performance.
(40:20):
If that makes any sense, itprobably doesn't. Miami. I think if
two A Tago Biloa is healthy,is probably undefeated at this point. Mike
McDaniel cobbling together a game plan forSkyler Thompson. He goes out, plays
very very well. They get old, Skyler Thompson gets hurt back to tv
H two oh. A couple ofother turnovers that touched down at the end.
(40:42):
That's not quite enough. I thinkthis Miami team still has it.
It's still a long year. Toursis probably coming back next week. They're
three and three, very much stillin it. In terms of the wild
card race, I'm still very excitedabout the Dolphins. My team adequacy that
has been more than adequate, andto have the shame record and batter strength
metrics than my team of destiny theBaltimore Ravens, so lots to pick on
(41:06):
there. I don't know if there'smuch to pick on. Bengals thirty Saints
twenty six. Shotty, what doyou think of this? I can't remember.
I feel like this game ended upgoing the same way that I said
it was going to go on ourpreview show as well, where the Saints
just don't have that defense of thesquagger that they've had in the past,
(41:28):
and this was just the Bengals continuingto again play play really average football,
but average football against a really badSaints team and disappointing Saints defense equals a
win. And I don't think youshould have to have that kind of aerobic
so that kind of like close gameagainst the Saints, but here we are
with the Sin Bengals in twenty twentytwo. Yeah, to me, this
(41:52):
is more I think symptomatic, kindof like what Shanny was saying, that
the Bengals are struggling and doesn't meanthey can't get better, doesn't mean they
won't be part of the mix atthe end. But it was an unconvincing
performance and for me, I'm beankind of out on the Saints ever since,
you know, we realized that maybeJamis was not going to be the
guy and all this ridiculousness that's goingon now with Andrew Dalton and Taysom Hill
(42:15):
and all the same stuff we allcomplained about a year ago. It's like,
oh, my goodness, isn't reallygoing to do this again, and
we're really going to have the TasomNo experiment and all of these different things
that it seems to me that theSaints don't have a lot of identity and
they're not quite true they are orwhat they want to beat, and that
showed up in full force in thisgame. So, yeah, Bengals,
you know, that's a business tright, get in there, you get
(42:37):
your win, and yeah, forward, I just love seeing Jamar Chase take
a you know, to the stickspast wrestle free of a dude, and
then burn everybody to the house.I just love It's just good to see
that again, Just to see himdo that. I feel like, all
right, last year, it's nota mirage. They haven't figured him out.
(42:59):
He's still a physical streak who isgoing to make touchdowns happen at of
Absolutely nothing bodes well for the Bengals, and they're big to get back on
track. Steelers twenty bucks eighteen.I had the Steelers covering an eight point
spread when we recorded our big showlast Wednesday. I'm not sure I thought.
(43:21):
I mean, I didn't pick anoutright win to happen, but this
is this is very fun and funnyto watch, Shoddy, What did you
think? I don't think any ofus had them winning, But I think
we all sort of figured that theSteelers would get back to form a little
bit. Yes, would be asembarrassing as their name against Buffalo was.
And that's partially because the Buccaneers arenot you know, that's not Josh Allen
(43:45):
anymore. Sorry, Tom Brady, like you're not that dude anymore. Buccaneers
awesome wide receiver talent is still bangedup. And even when healthy, maybe
not as good as Saftan Tags andGabe Davis and company. So this was
an interesting game. I was verysurprised to see the Steelers win. I
was even more surprised when I foundout that it was you know, Biscuit
(44:07):
who came in in relief and playeda fantastic game. I don't know if
they win or think they win withKenny Pickett, because they were really,
you know, menton around the edgeswith him a little bit. But I
think it comes down to, likecase Playpool had a fantastic game, Darniel
Yard receiving, and it just sortof comes down to guys stepping up for
the Steelers that needed to step up, and the Buccaneers didn't have that,
(44:29):
And the Buccaneers are still looking forsomeone other than London Fournette to be that
guy. Guys. I can't believeBiscuit is back. It's like they drove
him out into the woods and lefthim there, and he walked back and
like you can't get rid of methat quickly. The Steelers are like,
funny, you should show up backhere today. Got a job for you.
I tremendous and hilarious and totally meaninglessin the grand scheme of Steeler things
(44:54):
going forward. But I'm more worriedabout the Bucks, Like, yeah,
I mean in a like very verymediocre NFC where they should have just been
able to like flow right through. Now they're looking like, well, I
don't know, guys. I mean, you're lucky your division is bad because
you look like you might also bebad. And they have that speaking of
(45:16):
like super Bowl hangover even though theyweren't in the super Bowl is kind of
what this looks like. Like howlike, you guys look like you don't
think you gotta do it because youknow, flags fly forever and all that.
It's been two years since you wona Super Bowl, So yikes,
bikes, I need to disagree. And I know we spend a lot of
time agreeing with each other on theshow, but I'm almost upset at this
(45:37):
point. I have to disagree withyour Takesamantha. If you leave men Trubisky
somewhere and he walks back, hisresponse will be, hey, did you
guys know that you left me?Like through No, he would just be
like, hey, guys, guys, I stopped for food on the way
back for you. You've left mewag it. What I can't get over
(46:07):
is that the Bucks have the twentiethranked scoring offense through six weeks and the
number five scoring defense. Like ToddBull takes over and suddenly this team becomes
the twenty fifteen New York Jets.Like what what our keen black magic is
(46:30):
happening here? They have like adouble digit in the first weeks. Yeah
yeah, they are absolutely stoning peopleon defense. And then all they can
do is however many field goals Ryansuck Up can kick? Is how many
points the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can score? And it is It is wild to
see And I just went away.Who was who was that quarterback when Bulls
(46:52):
took over New York? Oh yeah, Ryan Fitzpatrick, the guy that Brady
took over for in Tampa Bay Ram'stwenty four Panthers ten Oh boy, Um
this this looked like all of ourPanthers cover you know, plus ten and
a half was gonna hit right upuntil it didn't. Um, Shaddy,
(47:15):
I'm gonna make you answer for thisone. Uh yeah, Teja Walker us
like like what are you supposed todo? I didn't know we were going
to Jacob's and my yeah, man, so no dead cat bounds here.
Yes, um, and Robbie Andersongot swelled out of the game by his
(47:37):
own coach in Ram coach. ThePanthers are like a trash fire right now.
Oh man, it's bad, It'sbad. Yeah. I just successfully
I had not muted myself because Iknew this was going to be quick,
and then I reflexively muted myself asopposed to on muting myself because I just
(48:00):
pushed the view button before I starttalking. Seahawks nineteen Cardinals nine Cardinals dropped
two and four, lose a winnabledivision game, and suddenly the Seahawks are
in a three way tie for theNFD West lead. Samantha, what is
going on? It's just like weall do it up right, that the
(48:22):
vantage NFC West, where everybody exceptthe Seahawks was going to be competitive,
and now it seems that only theSeahawks were competitive. Body. Credit to
Seattle, credit to Pete Carroll, who we all said was washed, and
to Gino Smith, everybody in theworld said was washed. I mean,
but I I want to talk aboutthe Cardinals like sound the Alarre guys,
(48:45):
this is bad, like as funas the Seahawks have been, and as
much as we have all enjoyed sortof the Gino Smith revenge on Everybody tour,
Like Kyler, Cliff, you haveto be better than this. This
team just under chieves and under chieves, and then every once in a while
they show up and we're like,oh, well they're fixed, they're fine,
and then they do this again. And whether the Seahawks are better than
(49:07):
they should be or not to goand win these games if you're the Cardinals,
if you're ever going to make thatleap from team with loads of potential
to team that actually achieved something,it's really hard to win a game in
twenty twenty two. When Pete Carrollis playing games in nineteen ninety nine,
it's just it's it's damn near impossible. This is exactly how Pete Carroll wanted
(49:30):
this game to go. Oh youwant to slow down, Gino Smith.
Awesome, Here's Kenneth Walker the Thirdlike this. This is what I live
for. Guys like you. Youyou embraced the darkness. I was born
in it, bitches. This isthis is Pete. This is Pete Carroll's
game. And Cliff Kingsbury doesn't knowhow to win games like this. Kyler
Murders want to win games like this. Kyler Murray was the leading rusher in
(49:51):
the game with a hundred yards rushing, but the Seahawks had Kenneth Walker Wiz
like ninety some yards and then GenoSmith had like forty eight yards rushing.
Do you just have still played areally good game even though they were harassing
him all day long? Really, the pressure that both of these quarterbacks took
is the story here. But allsaid and done, all of that was
(50:16):
happening the Seahawks, like full throatedoffensive you know, wunderkin that has been
Gino Smith this season didn't really panout, and the Seahawks shrug their shoulders
and said we're fine with that. And the same thing happened on the other
sidelines and they were freaking out.The Cardinals do not know how to play
football games like this, and thatis ultimately why they're gonna struggle as they're
(50:37):
currently built, and ultimately why CliffKingsbury might not be a head coach.
It's funny because the first drive,Tyler just did all sorts of Tyler things,
and my son was going against Tylerfantasy. He's freaking out. Oh
no, stop Kyler stop and apparentlyKyler hurt him because that first time there
was nothing going on. Definitely timeto hit the panic out in the desert.
(51:01):
And yeah, the Seahawks will keeptaking people playing right into their hands.
Finally, Sun and Football, Samantha, you were drooling over this one.
An Eagles Cowboys matchup head to headthat was actually as significant as every
Eagles fan and Cowboys fan has wantedto pretend it is for like a decade.
(51:22):
And I think we got a prettyclear statement about what's going on and
what that meant. But what didyou think? Yeah, guys, like
after complaining about the matchups that we'vebeen getting for weeks, I actually took
yesterday off because no one should betrusting me with a live broadcast while there's
a guardians A playoff going on.But I did watch, and I guess
(51:44):
where I'm at on this is like, are we finally done with the faux
quarterback controversy in Dallas? Yeah?Like, please make it stop? Like
dank goodness. I was waiting forthis and maybe we just needed a team
like the Eagles to come in andshow them like, hey, yeah,
this isn't a thing. But Ialso like it was cool, Like this
(52:05):
actually delivered is a pretty good game. We've had a lot of problems with
primetime games. It's being anything thatanybody wants to see, mostly on Thursday
Night, but really all the primetime games. But this was cool.
Division rivals, Eagles come on ontop and remain undefeated. I'm very,
very sold on the Eagles going forward. I am absolutely not sold on Cooper
Rush. I'm glad the experiment iscoming to a close. I will throw
(52:32):
some cold water on the Eagles justa little bit because I've been I've been
there champion on this program so far. I've been a very big supporter of
the Eagles yea for a while now. And I think a lot of people
in their reaction to this game I'mseeing both on Twitter but also like on
National TV, and you know, the post game, a lot of people
(52:52):
remember when it was twenty to threeat halftime. I don't think a ton
of people are remembering when it waslike twenty seventeen or whatever it was.
You know, in the fourth quarter, there was like a three point lead
for a little bit in the fourthquarter, and obviously, yes, the
Eagles did what they had to doand DeVante Smith scored that last touchdown and
ends up being a bigger, biggermargin at the end of the game.
But like the Eagles are the vastlymore talented team and got three turnovers from
(53:17):
Cooper Rush. This should not havebeen close at any point. And I
don't know what it was at halftime, Like is Mike McCarthy a good coach
all of a sudden, Like whatdid he give them? Was it?
Was it the Michael Jordan's special drinkbottle speech at halftime? Whatever it was,
the Cowboys actually came out and madethis a game and it had no
business being fun. And that's you'vementioned it, Tie, think you've mentioned
(53:42):
in Samantha, Like, yes,the Eagles are really good and they are
complete or more complete than they werewhen they were, you know, competing
for Super Bowls with Donald McNabb. This is a really good Eagles team.
But I think they have to learnthat games like this they need to win
by twenty five points, that thisshould not have been a game in the
fourth quarter. Yeah, that's that'skind of where I'm at. And as
(54:04):
cool as it is, uh,you know that, like Okay Lansing Catholic's
Cooper Rush, you know, myson goes out and plays high school soccer
against Lansing Catholic on the football fields. Like you know, the current started
quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys played thishallowed AstroTurf for the sixty two different sports
lines on it. Uh, drink, drink up the history. So um,
(54:27):
it's like that's great. But likeZak Prescott is a different speaking quarterback
in this league, and the CooperRush is a capable backup, which is
great because there's like four of thoseon the planet and thirty two teams wish
they had one. But we knowwhere he stands. Again, But you're
right shot eat the Eagles, Like, Okay, you're six and oho,
you're doing everything you want to dooffensively and defensively. Technically in terms of
(54:50):
points allowed, you're just as good. But you are playing too many bad
teams too close. Going to thisby the Steelers Texans Commanders Holts, you
know you've got to win those aytomaticallybecause it's gonna typen up down the stretch.
You're gonna have more teams down thestretch, and then in the playoffs,
you know you're not gonna be ableto let teams in and be able
(55:13):
to pull yourself back that you can'tflip it on and flip it off.
You have to play complete games ifyou want to win. Samantha, do
you want anymore on this since youyou weren't in the booth and we're feeling
guardians feelings. I no, no, I really don't, I really don't.
Okay, all right, well, guys, it has been a fantastic
show. It is nine o'clock, but it's a stroke of nine o'clock.
