User’s generated data are the source of a growing amount of wealth that appears to be more and more unequally distributed and monopolized by few Big Tech multinationals. The third episode of the Podcast series “From industrial to digital citizenship” explores how the value-added produced by digital users could be measured in view of enforcing a digital citizens’, fairness-based, ' right to monetize, calculated on such value. Federico Tomasello will interview Isabella De Michelis, the CEO and founder of Ernieapp who has coined the notion of “Right to Monetize” and launched the Privacy Knowledge Manager app, a mobile technology which user can use to start measuring their digital value and control it.

Federico Tomasello is a senior research fellow at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage, a visiting Fellow at the European University Institute, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, a guest Researcher at the WZB-Berlin Social Science Centre, International Citizenship Law research uniti, and a research affiliate at Central European University, Democracy Institute.
Isabella De Michelis di Slonghello is the CEO and founder of Ernieapp Ltd, an Irish technology company based in Dublin (Ireland). The company is behind the invention known as the Privacy Knowledge Manager (PKM), a digital solution that allows a user, via a mobile app, to implement under the one-click rule the strict privacy provisions set by 6(a) of GDPR, namely consent or oppose to personal data processing, deletion of personal data. transfer of personal data. The founder had the vision, back in 2018, that digital users would start valuing privacy more and more and would be demanding ‘easy’ solutions to do it, at least as easy as making a payment on line or downloading a file. The app (ErnieApp) can be downloaded in 50+ countries from Apple, Google Play and Huawei Gallery. An intuitive in app quiz-game coaches users about the value of their digital journeys. The app is at the moment published in Italian and English. Before founding ErnieApp Isabella founded High Pulse, a digital strategy consulting company and before that she worked as senior corporate executive for F100 companies including Qualcomm Inc, Cisco Systems, Motorola, Telecom Italia and Finmeccanica Elsacom being in charge of their regulatory, market access and technology policy strategies. Isabella is currently Director and Board Member of CDP SGR Ventures – Fondo Innovazione Italia. She a frequent lecturer in European Universities on the themes of digital user rights, regulatory and competition policy; privacy and data protection. She authored the notion of “right to monetize” as a contribution to the public debate of how user rights can be further enhanced in a connected and digital society. Isabella is a graduate/post graduate student of IUHEI and IUED in Geneva, she holds an Executive MBA from University College London (UCL). She is frequently invited as speaker/panelist in international industry and policy conferences, TV, Internet (TEDx) and Radio shows dedicated to the societal impact of digital technologies.

Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary.
