Thank you for tuning in to anotherepisode of What's Up with Wendy's podcast My
guest Today Award winning TV host, journalists, philanthropist. She is the host
of the daytime television show The TameronHall Show. She's joining me to shed
light on domestic violence and pets.A huge welcome back, Tameron Hall.
I think this is her fourth time, and you're also going to learn why
she was the inspiration behind my newpodcast, Divorce Doesn't Suck. You won't

(00:23):
want to miss this. October isDomestic Violence Awareness Month and did you know
that only fifteen percent of domestic violentshelters in the United States allow pets with
them into a shelter. Today,I'm back with Emmy Award winning talk show
host Tameron Hall and her Berna Doodle. Welcome back Tameron to my show and
to talk about this very important topic. Hi, Wendy, is good to
be back with you. Thank you. You're in season four already of your

(00:47):
show? Yes, we are inseason four. We started in September,
where you're moving up full speed ahead. It's unbelievable. Yes, yes,
it's exciting. It's so exciting,and it's so it's so well deserved.
Too. I mean I watched youoften and I just wanted to share this
little bit of information before we talkedabout domestic violence and pets and the Purple

(01:08):
Leased project. You were an inspirationfor my new show that I have.
Um it's called Divorced Dosment Suck.I watch you religiously and you had Divorced
over forty on and Daniel Harold wason and I slid into his DM after
watching your show. And next thingyou know, we're not doing what's up
with Wendy's podcast. We created ourown podcast and we're like twenty something episodes

(01:30):
in. Oh my gosh, phenomenalthose congratulations, so just so, and
we're helping. We're building a communityfor divorced people to share their stories.
So we're different from other podcasts. But you were the inspiration. If it
wasn't for you, we wouldn't haveit launched this and I wouldn't have met
Daniel. Oh my gosh, whata beautiful story. I'm so happy.
Now, where's my commission? Ibelieve it. I love it. Well,

(01:57):
congratulations, I'm so happy to hearthat. Yes, and thank you.
We talk about you often on theshow that how you brought us together
so thank you for that. Thankyou, thank you so domestic violence not
a topic that's discussed often. Canyou tell us about your work with Abassy
work for domestic violence survivors and you'vebeen doing this for so long? Yeah,

(02:19):
you know what, Wendy's so interestingto your point, we don't talk
about domestic violence and survivors. Ifeel enough. But that's said Purina and
Red Rover brought to light something I'dnever heard of. And I've worked extensively
with survivors of domestic violence organizations whohelped those survivors since the death of my
own sister, But I did notknow that this under discuss issue was a

(02:49):
part of the storyline. And thatis somewhere around fifteen percent of shelters in
this country, only a fifteen percentare able to take in pets, and
that means families have to make thedecision of whether or not to leave their
family member, their for family memberbehind. And what we know is around
half of those who are in homeswhere there's domestic violence delay leaving because they

(03:12):
can't bring themselves to leave their petsbehind. As you mentioned, Wendy,
I have exodus my family pet withme right now. When my sister passed
away, her pet many me,her little you know, doodle mix was
there with her, and we feeland I feel it's so important to get
the word out because this is aproblem that can be fixed, that can
be addressed in me better and whatcan we do, what can we do

(03:38):
to help with this because with thatsaid, one in three women and one
in four men, this isn't justwomen will experience some form of domestic abuse
in their lifetime. Well, we'reasking your listeners everyone to go to Purple
Leash project dot com and they cansee how they can support the efforts there.
My dog Exodus is here with herpurple leash, and I have a
tad bit of purple. We postedour family photo to show solidarity, but

(04:00):
in reality what right now, thenumbers are moving in the right direction.
Thirty four shelters have received around sevenhundred thousand dollars from Arena as a result
of this, and that means petservices at these shelters increase um, you
know, cat bridges and kennels andand all of the things that families need
to know that their pet is okayas well. So we're going in the

(04:20):
right direction. Twenty twenty five twentyfive percent of the shelters being equipped with
this, and really, you know, having this conversation, that's a big
step in the right direction because thenpeople know that the problem exists and they
see a straight line to how wecan help improve things. So go to
Purple Leash project dot com and followthe journey and help us get involved.

(04:43):
We have to get involved. Imean, I have my um Golden Retriever
right there next to me, andI could. I mean, there are
family, They're just like one ofour children. Though, we have to,
we have to. We have tohelp this. So we have to
we have to help these people thatare being abused be able to leave and
be able to take their pets withthem and go to a safe place with
them. Absolutely. I mean justimagine, you know, there's a mom

(05:05):
or a dad right now with theirchildren with their pet, and they are
debating how they move forward, whatshelter can they go to, and they
have to decide do we leave thepet behind? Our family pet behind.
And we don't want anyone to haveto make that decision. We want them
to be able to say, inmy area, there's a shelter not only

(05:28):
there to help me not only thereto help my children, but also make
sure my pet is okay too. This is life changing and we are all
a part of this community who canhelp people we may never beat in person,
but what we know is we're givingthem a chance to have a good
life, and that's what everyone deserves. Absolutely. Purple Leashed project dot com.
Please go to that, Please, please help us, Please spread the

(05:49):
word about this. It's such animportant it's such an important topic, and
it needs to be talked about morelike we're talking about it, and like
you've been talking to I think I'vehad you on four times about this.
You've been phenomenal. You've been aphenomenal supporter, and I cannot thank you
enough because we need, you know, people like you who are willing to
give their platform and their airtime tous. Right there's so many things that

(06:11):
we can talk about on a dailybasis, and rightfully so, but that
you've given us the time to talkabout this and spread the word, I
am so grateful and I can't thankyou enough. Oh, Tamon, I
can't thank you enough too. Andtell us a little bit about the talk
show. What can we expect fromthis season? Well, you know,
we're calling it the Golden Hour. It's the hour that we get to spend
with our tan fam and talk abouteverything to your point, whether it's divorce

(06:33):
and moving forward or we have ashow on just today that was if we
like It. If I like it, you should love it. It's about
couples who have unconventional relationships but itworks for them, so we're talking about
it all. We kicked off theseason in Uvalde, Texas. I did
an entire hour there talking with familiesas they return just fewer than one hundred

(06:54):
days after the tragedy there. Sowe are truly a talk show. We
talk about the difficult things, butwe laugh and you have a community where
it's fun. It's fashion, butit's it's life. It's it's I call
it a life class. It's nota show about a talk show. It
is really a show that talks aboutlife and you feel it. You feel
it through your show. The otherI was watching the other day, you

(07:15):
were in your white dress and youwere dancing with your audience. Yeah.
Well yeah, listen, we havefun. We have our audiences in you
know, this is our fourth season. This will be the first season where
we have the audience from the verystart to the very end of the season
in June. Everything shut down,as you know a few years ago,
but we're back up and running.Um, it's been it's been a surreal
experience. I never imagined that theshow would be so well received, but

(07:39):
I'm so thankful that it has been, and we're just talking about things.
I love it. You remind Idon't know if you remember this, because
you talked to many people that Iused to work for. Remember audience,
Remember his audience was everything, Andyou just reminded me of that, of
how you bring your audience in andyou dancing with them. I was getting
a kick out of all. Yeah, yeah, the audience. I say,
they're my co host, but mostlythey're my family, and that's all

(08:00):
we call him tam fam. Wellwithout them, where there's no show right
right right on that, Remember thatwe're talking to Tameron Hall. We're talking
about domestic violence and pets. Pleasego to the Purple Leash project dot com
and support support all those people thatare that are living with this fear that
they won't be able to take theirbeloved pet with them if something's happening to

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
