Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, guys, this is Kimberly Jessica. We are recording in
Live today at LUCID and we are standing in front
of Course, this is Melissa McCoy's amazing event, and we're
standing in front of Relevant, which is an amazing skincare
and I'm standing here with the owner of it, and
she's about to tell us about it as she shares
with our clients what they're getting today in their gift bags. Amazing.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Well, thank you ever stopping by. I'm Nikao Grieco. I'm
the founder of Relevant and Relevant is a non toxic
skincare line made for all skin tones to be melanin safe.
I created this brand based on my family beauty secrets.
My grandmother is from Kenya, grandfather from Kenya. My grandmother
was a coffee farmer. My grandfather was a medicine man,
so they taught me everything I know about skincare. Started
(00:44):
my first brand back in two thousand and two, sold
that brand in twenty and seventeen the Unilever, and then
created this to take sort of all of that family history,
but work with two black chemists to make sure that
I'm making products of work for everyone that's starting with
the most melanin rich skin first to test on it.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I just love you for this. This is so amazing.
I'm so excited. I can't wait to try it. I
can't wait to talk about it. What moves your spirit
when you look in the mirror and you say, I
want to create something that brings out the beauty in
people but also brings out their spirit. Because this is
what I'm getting, I love it.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
So I think I had my AHA moment in twenty twenty,
when we were in the middle of a global pandemic
and also, you know, really struggling with a racial reckoning.
I went from being a beauty founder and actually opened
my first beauty E Taylor, which is now a retail
store here in Los Angeles called thirteen Loon, because I
wanted to create a space where I could dedicate ninety
percent of my shelves to people of color who make
products for everyone. But I missed being a beauty founder,
(01:42):
and so that's why I wanted to develop relevant and
now all of a sudden, As someone who started in
the industry and premium skincare back in two thousand and two,
I often felt like the only it shelf, And now
I am really excited that I get to be surrounded
by so many globally diverse founders in my space on
Larchmont and at our site thirteen lom dot com and
now Relevant has all of these family members to get
(02:04):
alongside with. And we sell brands that you've never heard of,
but we also sell big brands like Golflesslour by Tyler
the Creator, we sell Human Race by Pharrell, We sell
brands like Goop. We're launching we just launched Chalk Factory
by Snoopstarter Forrey Brohodes. So yeah, So we're always trying
to discover brands that we know the whole world should
(02:25):
be participating and by experiencing products at work. And it's
just exciting to have Relevant have all these family members
in our space.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
