Hello, guys, I'm so happyto be here. Thank you, for
having me. Absolutely, thank youso much for being here, and we
are so thrilled that you are here. You are part of something monumental.

(01:32):
As an X Men fan, weare living in a golden era, a
renaissance of X Men fandom. XMen ninety seven is so iconic. What's
it been like working on the show. Oh my god, it's been.
It's been a blessing. It's beenso magical. It introduced me to this
entire family of X Men, andI feel like I gained a new family.

(01:56):
That's how I feel. My gosh. Well, speaking of family,
have a little special guest dropping inright, Yes, we do. Okay,
we have a surprise for y'all. We're gonna add in your son Sunspot
aka Gi A Christini. Hello, gee, welcome to x reads pot here.

(02:21):
I am trying to get here.Thank you guys for having me.
Oh my gosh, yes, ofcourse, straight in from the blue area
of the moon after your battle withBastion. We've got Gi Augustini. It's
so great to have here. Thankseverybody. This is such a joy,

(02:45):
So good to see you all.Yeah, so we're just jumping in right
into it with with questions. Wejust asked Christine, what's it been like
working on X Men ninety seven? So same question to you. Gee,
oh my god, it's been incredible. It's been surreal the number one word
I've been using. It's been incrediblejoy getting to to meet so many incredible

(03:08):
people, truly, you guys knowyou two and interesting, you're all like
one of them for sure, butalso just you know, people that I
don't really know that well personally, you know, just like the repercussion of
the show. Overall, it's justbeen quite unexpected and pretty surreal how things

(03:28):
have been unfolding. So yeah, very happy, amazing, amazing. Well,
question for you both, We'll startwith Christine, is what was your
first introduction to the X Men?The movies? For sure? Wow,
Yes, for me, it wasthe movies, and then of course after
I got the role, then Istarted researching deep, deeper and deeper and

(03:53):
find more stuff and the comics andall of that, But I started with
the movies. You have a favoriteof the movies? Was there one that
stood out to you? I loveLogan? Yeah, yeah, that was
amazing. Yeah. Did you watchthe very first X Men movie that came
out two thousand and one or twothousand and three right and one Yes,

(04:16):
I did, Yes, I did, yes, I did Okay, okay,
yeah very nice. Yeah. Whatabout yu Gi? How was your
introduction to X Men? Yeah?I did. I did watch the original
animated series. I grew up onit, you know, as a as
a young kid in Brazil. Ilearned recently I was I talked to somebody
from Brazil who interviewed me, andI've been saying, like, I don't

(04:40):
know if I started watching ninety two, and he said that X Men started
in Brazil ninety four, and thenhe was explaining how like different channels started
to show it, you know, our main one, as Christine knows,
like Globu is like the major stillis, but especially back in the day,
like there was almost a monopoly thatwas like what every single Brazilian would

(05:00):
watch, and it was like anetwork TV, and they were I think
the first ones, and so that'sprobably I was like, I think that's
I could have been ninety five, but we definitely started a little bit later,
you know. But yeah, Iwas a big fan of Wolverine.
I had, you know, thethe action figure and all that stuff,
and then when the movies came out, I mean, yeah, it was
incredible. I watched all of them. Wolverine was my favorite character by far.

(05:24):
Yes, mine too, Yeah, and mine too. Oh yeah yeah.
Here. So you two have beenreally connecting with the fans in various
ways, Like I've been co moderatingweekly screening events at Scummon Villainy in Hollywood,
which is this Star Wars themed canteenabar, And we watched episodes of

(05:46):
X Men ninety seven with a differentcast and crew and creators of the show,
and both of you are participated andattended. And what have your experience
has been like at these events.Well, I'll say like, it's been
so fun. When I finally, like Christine finally you know, joined us
and showed up and she didn't know, and I felt bad a little bit.
I think I don't know, ormaybe she didn't. I don't know.

(06:09):
I can't remember exactly, but becauseChristina and I had worked together on
a project last year and that's howwe met, but I, you know't
I didn't know that she was voicingan email, you know, I didn't
know until when the post started tocome out on Instagram. Then was like
what what? And it's funny becausewe were way in like I think we
had recorded already. Yeah, Imean the episode was already out. I

(06:29):
actually thought Christine lived somewhere else.I don't know. I was like,
oh my god, you know,I didn't. I didn't know because I
mean we were posting about this theseweekly streamings, and she was like and
she was like, oh, Ididn't realize and whatever. It's like,
you should come, and then shedid. And every time it's such a
joy. Christine said, it's justsuch an amazing energy and it's so so
awesome to be around. And yeah, he brings such an amazing vibe,

(06:53):
you know, to the whole thing. So it was always a joy.
But I mean I personally had fantastictime. I thought it was so wonderful
and it's so smart for you guysto do. And I feel so grateful
and honored. I think the communityand the I guess mostly the community,
but you know, even fans andagain friends that I made friends because of
that, you know, because ofyou guys putting that together and every week

(07:15):
watching with so many people in youknow, bigger screens and good sound.
It was really incredible. Well, thank you so much. Gi. I
think it's you know, right backat you because your energy and your charisma,
you really shine and I think somespot is really a perfect character for

(07:36):
you. Speak out of my heart. And we had, yes, we
had worked together before on this onthis project, a Brazilian project, right,
I think it was filmed here inNew York, but it's called Musica.
And we were doing looking for thisproject, and that's what I meant.
We were way. I think wehad already recorded our episodes for X

(08:00):
Man, and because we knew already, but we couldn't say anything, and
we didn't know about each other's participationin X Men. So we spent that
entire day together. And now, looking back, can you imagine, like
I believe that if we had knownthat day and talked to each other about
it, would have spent that entireday just imagining and dreaming what happened with

(08:22):
X Men? Right, Yes,to be quiet, try to be quiet
at the same time. Exactly.Yes, it was wonderful. So I
called he because I knew about theparties that I was seeing g on these
parties like you weren't there, butI didn't really know how it worked.
So he got in touch and thenI asked him, said, Christine,

(08:43):
are you living in La and Isaid, yes, of course, since
it said, oh my god,Christy, you have to show up.
So the first time that I watchedwith everybody at the cantina was an episode
A, and wow, that waseight weeks. I will never forget because
when Nina showed up and you knowthat critical scene like I got booed,

(09:09):
not me and Nina got booed andall of that. It was so much
fun. But it was like Iwas like, Okay, it was nice
to be here, made I shouldleave. But then it was a big
introduction. Wow, wow, thatway you ended up showing up on episode
eight, that's wild. Yes,an episode eight, if I recall,

(09:33):
this is the episode where you tellthe robot people to take your son essentially,
because I think yes, because that'sthe Tolerances Extinction Part one episode.
Yeah, yeah, and that wasthat was the first time that we see
well, this image here sounds fast. Yeah, that's why I'm lying for
the first time using his power visiblyand everything. So yeah, that was

(09:56):
a great, great moment. Andin episodes prior, of course, we
had your where you're having a luncheonso to speak, on the in the
penthouse and they're coming out the comingout moment. Coming out moment, pivotal
scene for the character and a greatanalogy for the queer experience. One of

(10:18):
the things that I am always goingto cherish is the fact that both of
you participated in this year's Pride Parade. You both are incredible allies to the
community, and it's so meaningful andimpactful for queer people to see that the
actors that portray the characters that givethem strength and empowerment in life, support

(10:41):
them and see them and recognize them. Thank you, Thank you for being
in the convertible, for being visible, for participating in the Pride Parade.
It was experience that I'm never goingto forget and I will always cherish,
and I want to know from bothof you what was the experience like for
you? For me, it wasunforgettable. Like you said, there is

(11:05):
so much love around and there isso much i'd say strength, you know,
to see that and to participate. And I think it's so important,
I think I said many times forme, like for people to be able
to live on their own skin, like to feel like who they are,
and to live this one beautiful lifethat we have. And you know,

(11:28):
in whatever way you feel like youwant to live your life. To me
that this is so so important. So to be part of that and to
see that and to be there likecheering, part of everything with everybody,
it was just unforgettable. That's beautifullysaid, and I couldn't agree more,
and thank you Chris for the beautifulwords. But really it meant so much.

(11:52):
It means so much to me.And I've said this before as well,
Like you know, I since Istarted in this industry with you know,
modeling and everything, I've always hadincredible you know friends and people from
the community, from the career community, and I've always been really well treated
and respected and all that. Soit's such a joy to have been a
part of it. And then youknow, for you guys to invite me

(12:15):
and you know Kevin who's not herewith us you know today, but you
know, also amazing to put thistogether and then and you know, lend
us the car and and do allof that, and it was so so
joyful. I had never been partof a parade like that ever. I
had I think only once watched theMace's Day Parade when I lived in New
York, but it was too coldand I never went back, but like

(12:37):
I was walking on Hollywood Boulevard toget to the place, and I was
like, wow, it was wild. It was it was so cool.
It was so cool, like theatmosphere and like Christine, such is just
like expression freedom. I really correlatethat day with like freedom, you know,
so much freedom and I love thatword to me is so important.
And I discovered Chandler something very incredibleabout Gee, what's that He is a

(13:01):
professional with a clack fan Oh yeah, oh yeah, clack clack clack.
I learned it that day. Ilearned that day. Yes, natural,
it's it's all that tennis experience. So he's got all of the four arm
actions. Yeah, I think Londonis doing that. That that that taught

(13:24):
me that day, right, Ithink I think so. I think she
was the one that I was like, I've always I've always seen people at
raves and stuff like doing it,and I find it so cool with the
music, and we were stationed nextto this humongous like bus cranking this awesome
music. And then I was like, oh, well I got to learn
how to do the thing. Andthen she taught me and I actually got

(13:46):
it. So yeah, that wasit. That was my tool. I'm
going to have to get a customsun Spot Clack fan and give it to
you at the Uncanny Experience. Ohyes, that just announced recently. You
know that Gee is going to bea guest at The Uncanny Experience this September.
We're so excited to have you andbring that amazing flare energy to the

(14:09):
event. Are you excited to bethere? Thank you? Guys, so
super excited. I said it fromthe day day one of the premiere when
we met Chandler and I met likeJT and and Michelle, and then you
know, I was so like fascinated. I'm very surprised how all of you
guys had known each other for solong. Anyway, again I was,
I was I didn't know much aboutcomic cons. I didn't know much about

(14:30):
cosplaying all these things, That's thetruth. And so I was like,
wow, you guy's been at itfor so long, you know, like
together and doing these things. Andthen you both told me about the Ian
Canny Experience and it sounded so amazing, and I looked at the photos.
I think that was the first Like, of course I had seen things about
San Diego Comic Con and stuff likethat, but I think like that was
my number. I remember watching thelittle trailer you guys had made, you

(14:54):
know, and hearing about like theMansion experience and almost like an immersive thing,
and I of immersive theater, youknow. So I was like,
I really want to go. Andso I'm so glad it's it's working out
because I'm a little bit sucker fornumbers, and so as the first year
of X Men and and my firstyear in cons, I don't know,
I to me, heels very specialto be part of it. This first

(15:18):
year well awesome, which is softsophomore year for you guys. Yeah,
so our sophomore year, your firsttime at the uncan experience in year one
of X Men ninety seven, andyou bring up a really cool thing,
of course, San Diego Comic Con, and you know it hasn't been publicly
announced yet, but you'll be appearingthere on our panel. So is this
your first San Diego Comic Con asan attendee in a panelist? Yeah?

(15:39):
Ever, I mean as everything thisis like it's and it's going to be
pretty much my my third comic conever. Right, I was at Hong
Kong Revolution and then I was inthe panel of wonder Con. So yeah,
I'm very excited. I heard incrediblestories. I heard how wild it

(16:00):
is, how the town stops forit, and everything is so crazy.
So I'm really excited. I'm veryfortunate to be doing some signings, and
there's going to be different panels.I'm going to be attending on Thursday,
there's one representation actually, and thenI think Sunday we have the X Men
panel happening, and yeah, I'llbe there every single day and I'm very

(16:22):
very looking forward to it. Sogee, just real quick, I wanted
to talk about your clothing line,IMPACTO. It's really cool. It's got
you know, phoenix imagery and stuffon it, which I love the phoenix,
and ten percent goes to the midnightmission of your sales. So tell
us about your clothing line and whythis charity is important to you. Well,

(16:45):
thank you so much Chris for bringingthat up. You always do and
I really appreciate it. I don'tknow if this is going to come out
in video form as well, butif it is, you know clips you
can see here. I'm wearing thesummer collection that just came out, and
this is one of the T shirtsand it says the littlest beginning. That's
one of our main slogans because webelieve, as you know, with the
Phoenix, you know, it's allabout like starting again. You know,

(17:07):
it's never too late to start against. Phoenix is our logo or part of
our logo with you know, literallya fire. I mean I had already
been cast as Sunspot, but itliterally had nothing to do one thing or
the other. I've always loved thefire as as my like inner element.
It was going to post this becausepeople have been mentioned it to me or
whatever. And there's a photo thatI created in twenty twenty when I moved

(17:29):
to Los Angeles and I was goingthrough a very deep transformation in my life
with the pandemic at a very deeppersonal level, and I have this photo.
I did a road trip from NewYork to Los Angeles and I you
know, I have this standing onthe on the on the road and stuff,
and my friend took this photo andI created a phoenix coming out of
my chest. And that is likein twenty twenty. So like that,

(17:51):
that's like it's always been embedded inme. And so when I started last
year with this this, you know, the actors strike, I wanted to
create something related to that, andso that's why we have the phoenix inside
of this fireball. And yeah, and we partner up with the Midnight Mission,
which I had volunteered a couple oftimes before, and they're an inccredible
organization who helped them homeless in LosAngeles at the skid Row area. They've

(18:15):
been there for for a long timeand they do an incredible work with a
lot of people like there's lived therefor years and then they are able to
go back to you know, thereal life outside of of the almost I
don't know, not a conservatory, but you know, a center of rehabilitation
basically and live their lives. Anda lot of the workers there are former

(18:36):
homeless people went through the program. It was really awesome. And because we
chose clothing to start, you know, my partner and I and we started
with hoodies because you know, we'velaunched basically in December in the winter.
It's always with the intent of givingback and creating positive change and having a
positive impact. I think that's abig ethos of me personally, and I
you know, wanted that to thiscompany to be a representation of that.

(19:00):
So I was super happy when theyaccepted, they said, yes, and
here we are. I mean,we started, you know, baby steps.
We were starting so much to learn, and even though it's not my
full time thing, but I'm reallypassionate and really happy that the T shirts
and the tank tops are out.You can check it out in pactostore dot
com. That's our website and pactoseShop is our Instagram. And yeah,

(19:21):
well we'll see how it goes.Well, let's get into the issue.
You guys, we are going tobe doing the very first appearance of Nina
DaCosta, which is Mutant number seven. This comic book was published on September
first of nineteen eighty three, solet's set the era. The top song
was Sweet Dreams by the Rhythmics.Ah wait, which one is that?

(19:47):
Which one is? Don't you guysknow how it goes? Sweet Dreams are
made of Oh no way, Iwas gonna that one. Agree. Well,
I just I just know it,I guess because it's been recently or
remix in the like em world. So that's how I know it, bro
right, which TikTok Resurrection for sure? Yeah? Yeah, but but that's

(20:11):
what I did. What about you, Christine, do you have any specific
memories. No, but all,of course I know this song and it's
it's it's I mean, it's anicon right, It's beautiful. Yah,
it really is. I remember thisone remixed, so that was like very
It was for a horror movie houseon the Haunt Hill, I think,
which starred Fomka Jensen, who wasthe Phoenix coincidentally in the X Men films.

(20:37):
I'm connecting all the dots here, yea, I hope I'm not.
But Marilyn Manson did a remake,of course, of this song and it
was attached to some sort of horrormovie. Yeah. I don't know what
horror movie, but I definitely knowhis cover of this song. Yeah,
amazing. So what was the topmovie? The top movie was a film
called Mister Mom. Okay, Well, after he suddenly laid off, there's

(21:03):
a husband who switches rolls with hiswife and she returns to the workforce and
becomes a stay at home dad,and he has to take care of the
three young children and a job andhe has no clue how to do it.
Well, let's see who was that, Michael. That's a great premise.
That's such a fun like synopsis ofa movie. But I've never heard
of it. It is, Ohyeah, Michael Keaton starred in it,

(21:26):
and Terry garr Uh was the wife. The wife, yeah, mister mom,
Oh wow, Mom. Christopher Lloydis in this movie too, look
at that, of course every movie. I've not seen this movie, but
I definitely recognize the poster in mymind. I can picture the poster.

(21:47):
I do love Michael Keaton, youknow Batman and all yeah, yeah,
all right. So New Newton's Numberseven was written by Chris Claremont and art
was by yeah ah on the cover. So yes, we have Roberto here,
and you have Nina and I havebeen kidnapped by this. I believe

(22:11):
he's a mutant as well, butan evil mutant, right, yes,
yes, and I think acts yeshis name, and he's saying one more
muty trick boy, and your mamadies. Oh no, hurry up.
I love how warped the background is, like we we have, you know,

(22:34):
like picture frames askew. We've gota fireplace roaring. I feel like
there's just chaos going on. Andthis is Sam, I believe, right,
yes, Sam, yes, Oh. And I like the corner box
art of the kids' faces because theylook concerned or upset or yes, like

(22:55):
it's usually it's always just heroic faceslooking forward in the corner box. Oh
yeah, yeah, they're giving expression, they're giving vibe a little bit of
uh. Oh, yes, Irealized that there's I think a lot of
the new Mutant issues are like thatbecause when I saw a lot of them
online, like it seems to belike all their faces with like emotions.

(23:18):
I do want to say before wedive into this issue, because I do
feel like x yn ninety seven Ninareally reads as comic book Emmanuel like.
I feel like they swapped the roomsa little bit. Yes, they walk
a little bit and yeah, whichis really I think it's fascinating because its

(23:40):
completely switched roles. That's how Ifeel, especially after you read the comics
and everything, and Nina was muchmore of an idealist reading this issue.
I found that to be fascinating. How in the cartoon she definitely reads head
of house, in charge of everything, and Manuel in this case definitely seems

(24:00):
that the father. I should say, for those who don't know who all
the past is, because she,the Nina of the comic, seems to
be out and about doing archaeology.I think it speaks to the world that
we live in nowadays as well, right, because back then women were much
more at home or taking care oftheir own things, and and even I

(24:21):
mean what she used to do,like to be an idealist back then,
and to have her own profession andgo out. And I think she was
most of the time traveling and notat home. That's what we get from
the comics, So I think nowadaysit's completely different. But nowadays it would
be possible for a woman to beat ahead of an enterprise and you know,

(24:42):
and to be at ahead of myeverything. Yeah, hosting Kala,
Yeah, but I thought that wasinteresting. Well, obviously we'll see the
dynamic of the of these two charactersas we get in, but we open
on our splash page, which wesee Roberto da Costa on the shoreline of

(25:02):
Big Sur in California. Wow.Yes, which is a gorgeous place.
If nobody's ever visited, I highlyrecommend it. The title of the issue
is called Flying Down to Rio.Now, I've never been to Rio,
Chris, I've never been to Rioeither. What is Rio like? Tell
us? Yes, I think Ican say that Real is one of the

(25:23):
most beautiful places in the world, with that doubt. We have the nature
we have oh my god, wehave the ocean right there, and we
have this beautiful climate when we havethe beaches, and it's beautiful. I've
never been in real during carnival, but yeah, just like there's just obviously

(25:45):
so much history too. There's justa ton of like wonderful places and sight
seeings and the energy and you know, it's incredible. It's pretty a beautiful
place to go for sure. Wellit's one of my top top destinations on
the planet, so I hope tomake it one day. But here we
are in Big Sore. We've gota wave splashing on our sun spot.

(26:08):
Yeah, he's brooding because they havelost one of their friends and teammates.
Is her name, So he's he'syou know, kind of alone by himself
and his own thoughts because you know, he thinks she's missing, Slash dead.
They don't know any details yet,and the other new mutant characters of
cannon Ball, Danny Mouonstar and WolfSpain they come find him on the beach

(26:33):
and are instructed to kind of bringhim back because the X Men have like
a base camp up above the rockycliff of Big Sewer. They travel up
to this base camp where we seeXavier, Lilandra, Storm, Nightcrawler,
and Colossus looking over a map becausethey're trying to find this missing teammate.
But Storm, oh, Storm hasgiven us looks for days on this Oh

(26:56):
my god, she has this beautiful, gorgeous like in dress and it's just
like one. She has one shoulderlike off and it's oh, so it's
stunny. And she has the mostbeautiful silhouette. Yeah, she's stunny.
Yeah. She's got really big chunkygold bracelets and iron bands, necklace yes,

(27:22):
yes, style yes, And everybodyelse is very casual wear on the
beach or camping, and she's like, no, if i'm gonna be anywhere,
I'm gonna look amazing. I'm gonnabe like ready. Yes. I
love the fact that night Crawler lovesto take care of everybody. He's such
a sweetheart. He sees any mutantscoming up the hill and he's like,

(27:45):
oh, they're coming, I'm gonnagive him some hot cocoa, and he
vamps over there with the cocoa.Yeah. Pesser X is just like,
hey, guys, let's not tellthe new mutants what's really going on with
his disappearance here because they are immediategonna want to go off and rescue their
teammate. But they cannot do thatbecause if they do, they are going

(28:06):
to die, and it's gonna bea really bad, horrible death. They
cannot know. Professor X would ratherlet them think that he's a jerk,
as Kitty had said in the past, then let them know the truth.
We see, Professor X have tomake these types of decisions all the time,
right, yes, absolutely, wellto distract them, of course,

(28:29):
who should show up? But thewoman of the hour, Professor X is
just like, there's someone here tosee you? Who me you after all
this time? What sort of agreeting is that? Mother? No,
his faces is so funny, thisfacing mother. It's like, looks like
a little pumpy. Yeah, he'sa little kid. Over again, he's

(28:53):
a little kid. Well my,well, but if you are here with
the X men, you must knowthat I'm a mutant. Your father wrote
and told me I needed you thendesperately, especially when Juliana was killed.
I'm sorry, Betha. I wason a dig in the middle of nowhere.
You always are. I'm an archaeologist. It is work I loved more

(29:17):
than me sometimes, I think,or father. I came as soon as
I heard, as quickly as Icould. And then Xavier jumps in.
He says, Roberto, your motherwill soon be leading an expedition to the
headwaters of the Amazon River. She'sinvited the new mutants to accompany her.
I think that's a splendid idea aboutwhat about shit? Yes, yes,

(29:41):
And this is obviously the scene thatwhere he's gonna tell Burdo, like,
no, you're gonna go with yourmother and you're gonna forget about your friend.
He's going to use the mom asthe vehicle to get them off his
chest. So so rebellious of thisone, and I love it. There's
so much strength, thin sun spotin this one. Yeah. And he's

(30:03):
and his blue hair. I meanit's interesting. Oh yes, well this
is a trick of black hair,so that because it was so what it's
not just a black blob, sothey use blue to texture it, so
it looks like there's some sort ofyou know, movement and texture to the
hair. But yeah, he's pissed. He's pissed, Xavier. He goes,
he powers up, he punches arock. It explodes. He's not

(30:26):
happy, not happy happy, lookat this. Well, this is the
moment where they all feel like theirtheir teammate has died and they're kind of,
you know, in shock, mourning. Oh yeah, so you know,
they don't know that she's still alive. They've come to the conclusion that
she's dead. And then we cutto Rio de Jannero bubbles here, you

(30:51):
know, I know, right pewthe music. Yeah, I have to
say that I love, love lovethis this this frame here, because this
is so famous, this picture here, and it's so gorgeous. Oh so
this happens a week later there inRio and its most fashionable seafront is Epanima,

(31:11):
and one of the largest, mostelegant of the mansions that line the
ocean is that of Roberto's father,Emmanuel DaCosta. And you see the limousine
driving along the beach, you know, beautiful palm trees and ocean. The
mansion was constructed a century ago bya prince, and the new mutants are
getting out of the limo and Kenniball'slike wow. Emmanuel grew up here a

(31:36):
barefoot house boy and swore that hewould someday own this palace. His mother
lived to see that dream come trueto be a mistress of the estate where
she was once a maid. Incredible. Yeah, so you know, the
butler comes down to greet them.Oh, and I love Nina's outfit.
Yes, tell us what she's wearing, Christine. She's wearing this big fellow

(32:00):
had with There is this I thinkit's there's this detail, this pink detail,
yes, pink shirt, T shirtI guess, or top, some
sort of top. And then thisyellow very fashionable a stir or maybe a

(32:20):
jacket something like that. And thesebig round this big round sunglasses, which
is so real. It's the firstyou have some big sunglasses. Yes.
In the house, Oh my god. Oh yeah, house is beautiful.
I think Jubilee probably rate it.Nina's closet oh, yes, you know,

(32:47):
yes, yes, indeed she wasinspired na Icon, Yes you know.
Yeah. Well, the butler isnot so happy to see all these
kids with me, so he instructsthem that dinner is strictly at eight o'clock
and to please dress formal if theycould even muster it. And so these
guys are not happy to be treatedlike this by the butler. Yeah,

(33:12):
and just for some more character exposition. By the age of twenty Emmanuel DaCosta
was a millionaire and by thirty aneconomic and political force to be reckoned with.
Married to the most beautiful woman inthe world. He loved her with
all his heart and couldn't have beenhappier when she bore him a son.
But somehow, as a year passed, the power grew and the dream began

(33:32):
to sour. He spent a lifetimebuilding an empire, only to find himself
wondering occasionally if it was worth theeffort. Wow, did we get this
intense dinner scene? Yeah, andeverybody is dressed to the nines. Oh,
I love how Ormerto has the fluffycollar look. He's got the frilly
collar and the frilly shirt at thecuffs. He's got quite the look with

(33:58):
his bow tie and everything. Oohboth time time very. I feel like
we're in downtown Abbey here. Yes, I have the same feeling. I
was about to say it if there'sthis downton abby kind of you know situation
here happened? Mm hmm. Well, now we're coming upon a very climactic

(34:20):
scene between Nina and Emmanuel. Alittle bit of a tiff, a little
bit of a lover's quarrel. Ifyou will so, my darling, where
were you gallivanting off to this timedata the headwaters of the Amazon. As
you well know, nothing has changed. They are as hostile as ever,

(34:43):
A dangerous journey me not into unexploredday. Thoughtie, you're sending geologists to
the very locale. I am abusinessman. I'll send my people anywhere.
If there's a profits to be made. Why when does it? What does
it gain? We have more moneythat we can ever spend the money?

(35:05):
Well, what do we read withmore? Does? He speaks a woman
who has never been poor. Mywealth earns with my sweat, my blood
paid for this house, the foodwe eat, the clothes on your back.
Would you rather be lived in afavela shack in the heels as my
parents died, that Berto be ahalf starved beggar boy. I would rather

(35:31):
we be happy. I am happy. And then we have cannon Ball.
He's sitting there just grabbing his collar, going and he's thinking to himself,
this collar is too tight and ititch is not crazy. I hate ties,
poor Bobby. My folks had theirshare of scraps, but things never
got this nasty. And then Rainis thinking to herself, we should have

(35:53):
never been here?'tis now rightfor out of outsiders to hear such words?
Bertra looks so embarrassed. I Bettyfeels awful, And then Danny Moonstar,
she's thinking, what's really sad isthat they still love each other.
It shows and little looks and gestureswhen they react without thinking. And then
Robertil says or thinks to himself,oh stop it, both of you in

(36:15):
Mercy's names, shut up. Don'tyou see you're tearing me apart. Each
year more of the Amazon basis, the greatest rainforest on Earth, is destroyed,
beyond all hope of reclamation. Youand those like you're in the danger
perhaps sacrifice the future so that youmade it's his progress, madness. You

(36:39):
mean, I always knew you tobe an idealist, Nina, which I
never realized too. Now you werealso a fool. Good night, Wow,
Wow, these are the days ofour lives. Y'all mentions the Amazon

(37:01):
basin and what's going on there backthen? What do you know historically about
this and what's going on with ittoday? The Amazon for this beautiful force
that we have, and the Amazonis considered to be the lungs of this
planet, right and with the youknow, the deforestation and everything that happens

(37:23):
year after a year. We arejust making it more complicated. And it
was like seemed to be a topicthen, and it's so much more of
a topic right now because with climatechange and all of that, it's so
important that we protect what we havethere in Brazil. It's important for us,

(37:44):
it's important for this entire planet. The species, I mean so many
rare species and stuff like that, you know, animals and the ecosystem and
everything, medicine, natural medicines.I mean, it's just so much like
it's so huge, and even likeobviously the trial vives that are still actually
live in the Amazon. They talkabout the basin, the Amazon basin,

(38:06):
I mean it's uh, I thinkthere was a river right that they call
it my data new my data, and there they talk about pressure stones on
the common on the comic it isstill very recent after the gold and the
and the and the pressure stones andminerals that we have there. And with

(38:27):
all this, we just have moreof the forestation. That place should be
sacred, I mean should and Ithink that's exactly what Nina is trying to
do. And we still we needmore Ninas like nowadays, we need this
to be done and we need toprotect what we have there. Absolutely,

(38:47):
I mean just just for the planet'shealth altogether, the local ecology and the
local population, just the planet overallworldwide needs that rainforest. So yes,
with that, So not long ago, I found this with this this this
news this article talking about it saysthe hunger for gold in the Madata River,

(39:13):
which is I think is exactly whatthis comic stocking interesting. Which is
crazy because this is nineteen eighty three, so we are forty years past past,
and I believe that we we justhave a bigger problem now right If
it was a problem then right nowwe do have. So I one hundred

(39:36):
percent agree with Nina. We're thinkingabout people think about money, but what
about the future of this planet? What about the future the next generations?
What are they going to get?I just think it's incredible. Even with
X Men ninety seven, when Ihave conversation with all the fans, we
bring up the fact that you know, so many of these important issues societal

(39:58):
issues are so relevant today that XMen ninety seven talks about that they were
back then when they're talking about itin the comics, and when they were
talking about in the animated series, like comic books, is where stories really
get to be told. The XMen are a perfect vehicle to be able
to give these analogies and to highlightthese issues. But something I do want

(40:22):
to highlight, and now we're goingto start really really flying through the issue
is the fact that no no,no, no, no, no,
let's cup the music. We arenow Mardi Gras. That's funny. They
actually mention it's a comic that theCarnival is like Mardi Gras. But anyway,

(40:43):
that's the mart way to describe it. That's why the Carnival in real
is is real imediately. Everybody shouldexperience Carnival in real like once in their
lives because it's I would love tosee it. Yeah no, I have

(41:04):
not doing not during Carnival. Butyes, yeah, I've seen the rehearsals
of the Schools of Samba and allthat stuff. But you know for sure,
I mean, I don't know.I think like I I was never
like that huge of the Carnival fanscrazy enough, but I think like if
I if I go to do that, I think I would rather go first

(41:27):
on northeast of Brazil. That's thestreet Carnival. I think that would be
more of my scene. First, well, yes it is. It is
on like Donkey Kong as they say, Nina, she has put her hat
on. You know, that littlefight at dinner didn't even slow her down.
So she throws on her white hatnow not yellow because she got multiple

(41:51):
big cats. And they're out atcarnival and Sam got three is loving all
of the women, and the womenare loving Sam gout three. Oh yeah,
what even comes up to him andmakes out with him right in the
middle of the street in front ofeverybody. Yes, red bikini kisses him.
Yes, I love how Danny's likecheering him on. She's like,

(42:12):
way to go, go three. And then she's telling Rain, She's like,
oh, you know, we haveto put on our own costumes,
like we should join in on this. Fine, So they go to a
costume shop. Yes, cost playtime, Yes they costume. Oh it's
so fun. So Rain she getsto put on a yellow like dressed like

(42:36):
Bell from Beating the Beast. Yeah, and she says, I'm a fairy
princess. I'm I'm beautiful. WhenDanny puts on a very slinky bikini like
number with a little butt cape,as we call them. And she's all
like, not bad, even ifit's a trifle more modest than I had
in mind. What did she have? Yes? Oh yeah, Oh but

(43:01):
Sam's outfit I love because he isfull on put some boots pirate, Yes,
swash buckling to the extreme, withthe big, big, biggest feather
out of the hat. Yes.Yes. And I love how Roberto he
gets stuck in Conan, the Barbarian. He's like, this is not me.

(43:22):
He wants to be fred Astaire.Let alone the you know, the
barbarian Codan. And so the shoplady's like, oh, mister Costa,
you know you're needed outside. Throwfurs here. My my husband must have
sent a car. I'll go outsideand see what happens. But then what
happens is she's kidnapped. We gother fire goons. Fine, yes,

(43:46):
we recognize these goons. They workfor the hell Fire Club run by Sebastian
Shaw. Yeah. They throw herin the car and they say, hustle
her into the car and let's rollthis sucker. Yes, cannon Buckle's crashing
out of the storefront all ablazing. But then he gets whacked in the face
by the edge of a axe.Oh, no, and he goes,

(44:07):
he goes flying into a derelict buildingthat is uninhabited. We have to let
everybody know that no other people werecalmed or killed in the building collapsing in
this moment. Yes, but Carnivalis still full swing outside. Oh yeah,
Carnival Carnival. Like, are allthe women in bikinis? Is like,

(44:28):
is that like really yeah part ofit? Yeah? Yes, And
the men are also in bikinis.Oh okay, and yeah, very tiny
bikinis. Actually, it has tobe said the Brazilian bis. Yeah,
the Brazilian bikini whax is a thingfor sure. But anyways, but they

(44:54):
get overshadowed by somebody and they turnaround and they get introduced to an axe
is brooding. He's a big muscularman with the mohawk. He kind of
reminds me of mister t. Yes, you know, I'll pity theo mm
hmmm. And the New means areno match for him. He is able
to take out Sunspot's strength. He'sable to resist Danny's psychic attack with a

(45:19):
slap, slapping her across the roomand Rain makes a run for it.
Yeah, and he's like, that'sa smart move, little girl. Mm
hmm. Wow. They regroup, but they learned that Rain actually turned into
her wolf form and she is trackingthem because they need to rescue Nina.
And then at moon rise they goto this house and the way it shadowed

(45:43):
and everything, it reminds me ofScooby Doo and I literally thought, oh
my gosh, it's shaggy, You'regonna pop out. I love it.
Oh. Yes, Well, nowthey're they're they're tracking Nina to this house.
Rain is inside, she's communicating withDanny on the outside, letting her
know what's going on, and weget a little owl out of her that

(46:05):
causes everybody inside this spooky mansion toget spooked. Yeah, poor Nina is
just huddled by the fireplace. Yeah, that's so sad. The hell fire
goons are freaked out, and oneof them is just like, oh my
god, dude, I kind offeel like this place is haunted and this
is the place where there's ghosts, and these types of ghosts are the ghosts
that kill people. It's part oflegend and lore. Here, I'm a

(46:29):
little bit scared and acts slash.Mister T says, well, why don't
you go check it out? Ifyou got the guts to do so,
so he's like, all right,he grabs his gun in flashlight and he
starts going around the dark home.Ooh, and then the News get to
use their powers, spooking out theguards by making a vision of sexy carnival

(46:51):
girls inviting him up the stairs.Oh yeah, oh I did see that,
and I did get Yeah. Isthis one of your nightmares? Welgee,
is that women turned into demons andthen attack you. Oh boy,
I'm having that bad dream. Yes, I'm seeing Danny really struggling here trying

(47:15):
to make these illusions happen to takeout these guards, but she successfully does.
One of them sees visions of being, you know, burned alive,
the other one is covered in gowand the third one is being eaten by
rats. And so all the Hellfiregoons are subdued. I know, it
turned into like a horror comic. All of a sudden, Yes, Rain
turns into wolf. Spain tackles oneof the guards hopping from the balcony.

(47:38):
Ooh yeah, fisticuffs. They're punching, throwing, They're taking out these goons
easily. And then Roberto comes in. He mashes through. Oh my god,
he smashes through the wall and hescreams X and then what do we
see? What is Ax doing?Oh my god, what's happening? He's

(47:59):
holding this big he is grabbing Ninaby her hair. Yeah, screaming like
trying the best she can, butI think he's pulling her. And then
and then he sees Roberto just cuttingout of the wall, goes wild and

(48:20):
then what does he say? That'sas far as you go, runt go
or I got yo, mama wildand you're threats and not impressed the mercenary
whoa And then he punches the groundyes, and is like the floor floor
shakes. That's it. Sim comesin saves Nina, gets her out of

(48:45):
there so that the battle can reallycome to blows. Since by it sees
Axe on the floor and he says, on your feet, Axe, sucker,
I'm gonna make you regret you wasever born. He caught me by
surprise before no such luck this time. Bam Sun spots punches Axe right in

(49:08):
the chest. It hurts, ah, if that's the best you could do,
And he swings and misses with awhat and a pound and a scram
wow and then shrank scram scram Yeah. And then he looks at him.
Then he gets out of his poweredform into his new Mutant costume, right

(49:32):
back at his you know, regularcostume, and he's like he wasn't.
Oh no, drop the micro moment. There's more. And then we are
at the Santos Dumont airport near thebase of the Corvocado Fame. Yes,

(49:53):
she is saved. The New Muteshave saved her. She is on her
plane onto her expedition to go savethe Ring Forest and uh, you know,
they they bid her goodbye. Butthen we see in the distance in
the car that there is Sebastian Shaw, leader of the hell Fire Club,
who arranged the kidnapping, and itwas co arranged with Emmanuel. I was

(50:17):
I was shocked about that that thisending. It was wild. It's wild.
I mean maybe you should read it. I mean, this is wild.
You should read it. It's agreat it's a great storyline when they're
all in Brazil because then they're gonnameet Magma very soon, who is another
New Mutants member. So this isthis is actually a fun era of New
Meetons storylines. It's really wild,so much plotting of murders. And then

(50:44):
I is so happy, like timeis wasting children. Let's go. Yeah,
Robert Roberto kind of picked he noticedit. He's like, I don't
think the danger to my mother isover? He says, yeah, Yeah,
it's so shocked when I got tothe very end and I saw that

(51:04):
the Manuel was behind all of this. That's what I'm saying, Yeah,
what is the line? What isthe line here? Is like that won't
be necessary, my friend, myfriend. Arrangements have already been made about
like taking her out right, Likeyour expedition will not succeed. You don't
even make it to the Mederia.Yes, wild, yes, And Sebastian

(51:25):
shows like, oh even if thatmeans the death of your wife and son?
All right on in the next issue, the Road to Road, because
we're gonna go to uh nuevo Romaor no vote novo Roma is what they

(51:47):
call it. Yeah, it's thishidden Roman society inside the jungle that nobody
knows about. So oh yeah,oh right in Brazil, in Brazil,
right in the Amazon. Yeah,in the Amazon. There's a hidden Roman
society in comics. And this iswhere we meet Tomorrow aka Magma. And
that's that's the one that I thinkI saw. Christine got the h the

(52:10):
actual issue, right, yeah,mm hmm, yeah, amazing, fantastic.
Yeah, and it's so cool toobecause there's much more, many more
adventures for all of them. Rightwhen they are getting on the boat and
there's this big yacht that they gowith, and it's fascinating. Wow.

(52:31):
See Christine's got it. She's goingto take it and take it from here.
I got it the next episode, but I got to this, I
was like, I can't stop here. I mean, I can't believe that
he's going to betrayed her like this. Yeah. Yeah, Chris Claremont is
great with those cliffhangers. Yeah,I mean the comics are great with that,

(52:55):
and I mean also I think, you know, the animated series that
too. But I was so likeimpressed when I watched it, you know,
for the first time of the premiereand then every single week with everybody
though you know, obviously we hadhad some of the scripts before, but
I don't know, it's just neverreally for me. It just I never
translated like the reality how I feltwatching it comparatively to reading it like the

(53:22):
Cliffhangers. Watching it was so amazing. I think, you know, it
excelled so so much in X Menninety seven, you know, absolutely.
And one thing that stood out forme is that Emmanuel actually he become a
member of the health Fire Club, which is very kind of yeah, no,
he kind of turned. He turnedsideways sideways. Well, and then

(53:45):
the comics eventually, Roberto U too. I mean it's such a journey,
I know. Well, and thenthe Healthfire Club ends up being a safe
haven for all mutant kind eventually. In comics, so everything is male ball.
It's all. There's no black andwhite like what is good and you
know what is bad already, youknow. So and something I liked me

(54:07):
and Channa love to say it's comics. Yeah, guys, comics, I
