starring roles in Black Swan, Jackie, and Closer. She often
opts for dark, serious material. She also devotes much of
her personal time to cause this close to her heart,
including animal rights, environmentalism, and global poverty issues that are
also no laughing matter, and she tells the Hollywood Reporter,
all that can add up to confusion when someone meets
her for the first time and discovers her actual personality type.

It's she says. Goofball says. People often tell me the
surprise that I'm silly, but most people who know me
well know I'm a pretty goofy person. Some people are
surprised that I'll be joking around before doing a very
serious scene, but that's part of how I function well.
I need to leave the drama for the screen. There's
still a serious approach and intense focus to the work,
but silliness helps the flow and feeling a safety and
comfort that allows me to be bare when I need it.
