(00:00):
Kiss FM, Los Angeles. Well, that comes a time that the album
is born. Every year, itis born. Every year we get to
meet different artists who come through withalbums. And this year, guess who
we get to see with a newalbum, Our friend, Kesha, Kesha.
(00:24):
I don't know where to start.I was just thinking about like how
many years ago we met in theevolution of probably all of us, you
know, since that time, likeit's been a minute, and I don't
it's so weird. I still feellike I'm like seven years old sometimes,
you know, we feel and maybethis is just how we want to feel.
(00:45):
But I do feel like I progressless every year, and that's the
way that I see myself, likeI want to stay. I want to
stay thirty forever. That's kind ofI want to stay like seventeen. I'm
gonna say for me, well,a lot of growth has happened with you.
So first, let's just tell everybodyif you don't know her, new
I'm Gag Order is out now.It is officially out, so congratulations,
(01:08):
thank you, thank you. Ihave worked on it for three years so
and it was like all feeling verytop secret, like I kept it very
close to my chest, and nowto be giving it birth is like such
a strange and beautiful feeling like itwas mine. It was so mine for
(01:30):
so long, and now everybody elsegets to have it. So I hope
they love it because it was madewith like an insane amount of love.
And life has had its challenges foryou. It's had impact on you as
time goes by. You know, life happens, right, and so I
know that. I was reading oneof the articles you said, this is
(01:52):
like the most intimate material ever foryou, the closest to your heart kind
of stuff, And I started thinkingabout that, and I'm one to ring.
So is there a moment, likewhat is that moment like where you
realize that the real life stuff that'sso intimate and so close to you and
the things that were in your heartand head, when does that cross the
(02:13):
line to become art? When doesthat cross the line to become stuff that
we're going to consume? Well, that's a really good question. I was
working with Rick Rubin, and forthose listening who don't know why is he's
like the greatest living music producer ofall time and he's just brilliant genius.
But I went into him with likeseventy eighty, like a lot of songs
and some were kind of more celebratoryand some were really really really intimate,
(02:38):
and the we're intimate ones, Iwas like, I didn't even want to
like play them. He would justlike he would just hear like a little
piece and be like, I'm wantto work on that. And I found
myself being like apprehensive about that processbecause it felt like he was reading my
diary, like really really in theirstuff. You just tell your like closest
(02:59):
friends, in your therapist, Andall of a sudden, I was singing
it knowing that it's going to beput out there to the world to judge,
which is the world can be likethe most beautiful place but also really
scary place to put like your vulnerabilities. So having it come out, it's
like I feel very protective over it, like I hope people are kind.
(03:20):
Well, I mean, it's likewe we struggle just to talk about things
here right that are like on ourminds, and if they're a serious thing,
it's it's difficult for Steven talk about. Once you talk about it,
kind of it's just done. It'sgo next show, next day, this
is this list forever, like you'reperforming these songs. Yeah, what what's
that emotion like when you've got toI mean you compartmentalist, you go back
(03:44):
into those moments, come out ofthose moments. I'm so curious to know
how that works. Well. II called it gag order because I felt
like, I mean, it's probablynot that dissimilar to your job, where
you like mostly bring people lots ofjoy, entertainment and fun. And it's
so necessary in the world we livein to have places you can go that
(04:08):
are like you get to exercise joy, you know. But so for me
to put words in music to allof these other emotions that are not what
people are used to hearing from me, like anger, rage, grief,
sadness, loss, all of that. So to make an entire record like
(04:30):
that, I couldn't have done itwithout Rick helping and saying like it's okay,
just like trusting, like trusting yourself, like he got you to trust
yourself to do it. Yes,And I still like, I'm so nervous
having it come out, but Ireally trust Rick and I trust like the
room we were in it was sucha beautiful safe in Malibu at this place
(04:51):
I see in the documentary. Yes, that's exactly what it was too,
and we're like drinking smoothies, noone a shoes on, and when I
get stuck on a lyric, I'dgo walk down to the ocean and jump
in and it was just really beautiful. But it definitely was intense, Like
(05:14):
it was in an intense process forme to know that I'm the person that
put out the therapist too. Imean he's not, but I'm saying in
a way absolutely, because he justcreates his space where he's like, just
go into that emotion something that Iwould usually not ever go into. Yeah,
because I didn't really think people wantedthat side of me. They just
(05:35):
wanted like to come and have fun, right, which I still like providing
that to people. But it isvery full circle from TikTok. Yes,
it's very circle. But people arecomplex and you know you can't you just
have one side to yourself. Actuallet's take away, come back, have
a couple of things. I'm goingto play here, um and just the
second Kesha is with us this morning. New music is out today, You're
(05:56):
on Kiss FM. We're coming rightback. Okasha with us this morning here
on album released day. So thankyou for making the time to come to
see us. It's so good tosee all of you. I mean,
I'd love that you're just so honestabout Hey, I'm nervous. I put
this stuff out like this is thisis me. This is as close as
you can get to you know,my inner thoughts in my heart and doesn't
mean it's it creates anxiety when youput it out. Um, this is
(06:19):
called fine line. I'm this,I'm gonna play. Actually only love can
save us now in a second, but listen to a little piece of fine
line. Never guess pretending so youknow everything it is. When I started
(06:50):
listening to the whole thing, it'strue. Life is full of fine lines
like happiness and and and unhappiness ortogether and untogetherness, Like there's like that
you can really trace it to amoment. I think everything is a fine
line, and it's all perspective, right, But we each have our own
very specific perspective. So trying togo about the world and act right,
(07:16):
it's like, well that's totally upto whose perspective, like being judged on.
So for me, I want toactually came in with the song idea
and I was thinking about how iftwo people are just like madly in love
and it's so romantic, and theycome to your house and they throw you
a party and bouquets of flowers. That is so romantic, and if you
(07:41):
don't really like them that much, then it's a restraining order. So like
it's totally that's so true, exactly, I can't have you near me at
all. It's there's such an it'sall perspective, so it really is dependent
on other people. That's creepy orI love you exactly. So I just
(08:05):
started off at that and it's likeeverything is everything is on line, and
you tell your kids, like, don't worry about what other people think of
you, except for their perspective iswhat's judging what you're doing. It's true
because like you know, when youmeet someone that's really nice, like they're
really nice. Then you meet somebodyit's like too nice. Then you worry
what's up with them? They're toohappy? Something's wrong. Yes, it's
(08:31):
all a fine line. So likeevery little I kind of felt like I
was walking this invisible line, butI didn't know where the landlines were.
And this is the song where I'mjust like I can't keep doing it's exhausting
I've been doing that for over adecade. You know, everybody does it.
Everybody everybody does that. I wantto play only love can Save us
now? So just what should wethink about while listening to Okay? So
(08:54):
this song is like a desperate prayerto the universe because when you look around
and there's so much chaos and thenthere's so much beauty, and the dichotomy
of those two emotions. I wantedto translate from the verse to the chorus.
The verses are like, look howthis is just like it's deranged.
(09:18):
Look how deranged the world can be. And then the chorus jumps in and
that's like when you surrender, andit's the prayer, like Okay, so
we're gonna do it, and I'mgonna play here and then we'll come out
of it. This is Kesha oneor two point seven Kiss FM. It's
on Kiss FM. The intersection ofso many emotions there in that song.
(09:41):
Hey, the chorus, Okay,I'm just telling you right now, that's
new music from Kesha. The albumis out gag Order. I'm just telling
you right now. When I hearthe song and the chorus there and people
are stomping and clapping, and singingalong to it. It's eight thirty five
at night, it's an outdoor concert. The sun is like going down.
The whole place is singing that. There's an energy I need that this summer.
Yeah, that's the moment, youknow what I mean? Absolutely?
(10:03):
You know I am like that's sortingout the dates as we speak. But
that is like a great outdoor song, right like that is a great outdoor
song that people are going to experience. And the different layers to it sounds
so exciting. It does make itdoes make you move. Did you see
people moving like people are moving toYes. But I'm just excited to play
(10:24):
my music. I know, Iknow. I'm just thrilled to see you.
You too. The album is great, by the way. The lyrics
are so like you're saying, they'reso honest your song too far gone?
Am I missing you? Are?My missing pieces of me? That lyric
just like got me and so justcongrats on the whole album. That song
(10:48):
is like that song is about abroken engagement, Like so much stuff has
gone out since I've seen you last. We could talk for seventy hours.
Would you ever get engaged again?Um? Somebody wants to give me like
a baller ass rail. Contentment comesfrom the inside. But all right,
(11:13):
well listen, check it out,gag Gordius out now cash it. We'll
see you again soon. Thank youfor coming. So good to see everybody
see you. You're on Kiss FM. Coming back.
