Speaker 2 (00:03):
What's up?
Speaker 1 (00:04):
You're all with Mario Lopez Raven on Zoom from Career
Eye on Netflix. Bobby Burr, Welcome the show.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Man, Thanks man, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Where are we speaking to you from? That's a nice background.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
I'm at home in La NBC studios are right behind me,
so you should know that area pretty well.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
I know it very well. I'm speaking to you from it.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Right now that if I'm looking that way, I can
see you out of my bedroom.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Hey, there you go.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Congratulations man on the Emmy nomination sixth year in a
row for Outstanding Structured Reality Programs.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
That's goind to feel special. Thank you.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
It's honestly insane that we're still getting nominated on season seven,
like it just I mean, we were shocked when it
happened on season one, but for continually happening is just
It's such an undament.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
And now you've written a book right and Home, which
ironically you're right at home.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
What inspired this project? You know?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
So people have been asking me, especially since Square, I
came out to do a design book, you know, and
teach people about design. I didn't want to do one
of those, is like pretty coffee table books that oh
they're great, but they're expensive to buy, and it's kind
of just a bunch of unattainable houses that just kind
of make you feel.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
About crap about your own home. You know.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
I wanted to do a book that really inspired people
to figure out what their design aesthetic was and honestly
normalized not even asking what their design aesthetic is, but
basically what it is about their home that makes them happy.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Because our home is like our phone charger, and.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
If we don't get that phone on the charger at night,
it's not going to make it through the next day.
Your home, you need to think of it as the
same way your home can really recharge you.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Absolutely, that's a good analogy. It's your sanctuary should be.
At least is your first book, right.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Hey, yeah, it is my first book.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
What did what did you find most challenging?
Speaker 3 (01:50):
I have add so the writing it part was the
most challengings you actually sitting down, I'm really good at
the big picture ideas and really good getting but like
getting it all organized, you know that that was the
hard part.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
For me when it comes to design, Like I know
what I like, I know what I like, I know
what I don't like. How do you know when it's
time to sort of like say, let go of something
so my room stays organized, or I want I like
the streamline stuff and my wife likes to collect stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Let's just say.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well. Chapter three is called clear your space, clear your mind.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Oh there you go.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, And you're exactly right about that, because when I'm
when i'm because I'm so busy, when I do have
my silly thing like my closet clean or my room clean,
I feel like my mind is clear now and I
can be much more focused on the things I should
be focusing on, and I don't have to worry about that.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
You know, chaos around you really does create chaos in
your mind. Yeah, and you know, you know, it could
be hard to figure out what to get rid of.
It can be hard to take that first step. So
one of the things I talk about in that chapter
is start out small. You know, don't try to take
on if you have a groom that's a disaster or
a house that's a disaster. Don't try to take on
a whole room. Take on your junk drawer. You know,
(03:07):
start small, a drawer. Yes, you start small. You get
a little sense of accomplishment. You get some endorphins release
when you actually accomplish that, and.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
You're like, actually, now, okay, I finished that drawer.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Maybe I'm going to tackle like a closet now, and
that's tackle that closet, and.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
And then it moves from there.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
So don't try to take off, you know, bite off
more than you could chew in the beginning, because you're
not gonna get it done, and then that's going to
give you a sense of failure and then you're just
gonna give up.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
That's that's what I got to do right there. I
just took all the bags around the bedroom with just
stuff in it. I unpacked and I took care of that.
I got the night stand next, and after that the closet.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
So probably, like me, you probably always have a suitcase
in some state of packing or yes, yes, it's in
our business.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
It's hard to avoid.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
That because I know I'm traveling like this weekend, for example,
and I traveled last week. I'm like, I'm not gonna
pack unpack everything I gotta do with this next week.
Speaker 3 (03:59):
I'm like, I need half the stuff that's in that suitcase,
so I might as well walk around it for the
next week instead of just.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Putting it away exactly.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Okay, we're on the same page. Close to back to
school time, a lot of students returning to dorms. What's
the best way to make use of a small space?
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You know, when you're decorating a small space, you need
to think of it not just as a one dimensional square,
you know, from left to right, side to side. You
need to think of it as a cube from top
to bottom. And you nearly really need to utilize your
real estate, not just you know, on the floors, but
on the walls. You know, really utilize those walls. And
I know in dorms it's it's hard to stick anything
(04:35):
on the walls or to put anything on the walls
because you're not allowed. I always recommend like command products,
command strips. I use them a lot for set decorating
because they don't leave any damage. We create a lot
of different content. They have ones that'll hold up to
like twenty pounds now too, so you put shelves and
stuff up.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Yeah, that's a tick ad for command but it's not. Yeah, no,
I get it, But you're right. You got to not
just side to side, go up, go Yeah, I like
that you're gonna be doing a book tour as well.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
Oh right, yes, nice.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
What are you looking forward to most.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Getting out there with fans again. You know, it's really
been since.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Before COVID that I've really got to get out and
interact with fans. Before COVID, my castmates and I would
do a lot of oppress and media tours, a lot
of speaking engagements, and we haven't really gotten back into that.
So I'm looking forward to interacting with people again.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
Good for you man, Well, congratulations on the book. I
feel much more serene just hanging out with that background
of hers a little creek or whatever it is in
the back.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
That's my friend Yarkay. That's very cool.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
And listen, you can pre order right now, right at
home wherever you get books. Bobby, congrats and thanks for
hanging out.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
Awesome, Thanks Maria. All right, we'll see with Mario Lopez
