Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. It's un Mario Lopez jorn
on Zoom for the new documentary Dreamland, A Storming Area
fifty one story comic Brian Murray No, welcome to show, Matt.
How are you? Oh? Very good man, Very good Mario.
And before we start, I want to say, like, as
a Hispanic male in my age like demographic, you have
(00:22):
not only been like an inspiration, but you are the
example of a consummate professional man. I just want to
thank you, bro. Well, I appreciate the kind words, my man.
I appreciate it. I Uh, this made me laugh out
loud the title when I was when I was just
saying it right now, and I was like, all right, Brian,
what in No, that's awesome man. Good for you. So
I look forward to hopefully meet you in person. Chacken
hands um, you made this movie and uh and your
(00:46):
comic as well. When it comes to aliens, however, are
you a believer or a skeptic? Well, I'm a I'm
a total ufo head, like alien head, you know, But
this like any other um, you know, Subcole. Sure, once
you get in the weeds a little bit, you know,
people start to get a little crazy. So I haven't
gotten to the crazy part, but I totally think it's
(01:08):
naive to think that we're the only ones. Yeah no, not,
I respect that. Um what made you want to be
part of the group to storm? Okay, well let me yeah,
let me let me start off, like, this movie is
so about so much more than the storming a very
fifty one. It's like, we all remember that viral event
(01:28):
and a lot of our memories are that event just
being a total bust. So for me to actually make
a movie, um about the event, it had to be
about the group that was going there. It had to
be about you know, my struggle. You know. So even
if you're into aliens or the storming of Very fifty
one or not at all, there's something in this movie
(01:50):
for you because, like I, this movie is made from
a place of love, but it's also a comedy. It's
a comedy documentary, and people don't make movies like this
for a reason. There's a lot of Christopher guests. I
don't know if you remember, like best so awesome, Yes,
waiting for Guffman of course? Yeah? Sure? What what what
types of people were gathering for for this event? And
(02:12):
were they from all different types of demographics. Did they
have something in common? Well, I think this whole the
UFO alien like subculture, it parallels a lot of religious
Uh you know people, you know, people who believe no
matter what you believe is totally okay, but religious people
(02:33):
they put a lot of their faith and things that
are unseen or unknown, things that you can't exactly quantify.
And I think this whole UFO alien group, you know,
they parallel a lot of those same those same ideals
and thoughts because you know, no one's obviously ever seen
an alien, so you gotta put your faith in things
(02:54):
that aren't aren't exactly explainable. Yeah, that's okay, I see
the parallel there. That that that was Uh, that's a
really solid point. Um. I don't want to spoil the
movie or anything, but did you see any aliens? Well? Yeah,
I mean technically yes, I do. I do deliver an
alien in this movie. Okay, it up, fair it up.
(03:15):
That's a good teaser right there. Um, So the movie
you set out to make, did it end up turning
out the way you thought it would or did it
end up being something else altogether? Um? You know there's
a scene at the end of the movie where I
kind of get really emotional and cry a little bit,
and I say, there's a line that I say that
(03:38):
I made a movie that I didn't intend to make.
And now, like in hindsight, like when I really look
at it, I think I made the movie exactly that
I intended to make. I was just so overwhelmed with
actually fulfilling the circle, actually completing the movie, because people
don't make films like this for a good reason. Mario.
(03:58):
Let me tell you, I boo. I bootstrapped this whole thing.
Everything was out of my pocket people. I called in
every Hollywood favor I could to complete this. And I
think I just I made the movie that I intended
to make. But also it was one of those ideas
that was so crazy in my brain that I couldn't
(04:19):
even explain it to people at the time. You know,
so may I maybe yes is the answer. Maybe yes,
it got you the way it was supposed to be
right there. I respect that you went all in. Man,
that's great. Do you think they're there any more alien
hunting adventures in your life? Or or are you on
to a new um? Will all always be all, always
(04:42):
be interested in UFO aliens, uh, the exploration of the unknown.
But when it comes to filmmaking this film, um, ideally
I would like it to be my proof of concept
for my next movie. So, like I say, this is
a by the rule of law, this is a documentary,
(05:02):
you know, and and I made sure to follow that
that lawsuit for lawsuit and legal purposes, got it. But
this is a doc you film, you know, and and
I would like, um, you know, my next idea. If
you think this is crazy, my next idea is wild
about it right now? Well so well, so I mean, okay, um,
(05:24):
this is this is like a documentary more about the
group of people that come together and the storming of
Very fifty one. That event is just a vehicle to
drive the story. It could really be any event. So
my follow up idea is I want to make an
actual studio film, but do a film like Dreamland that
(05:45):
kind of um, it's kind of the trailer documentary to
the making of the movie. So I get a lot
of the same cast and crew or other people who
are trying to get in my movie. Do you remember
how they kind of did that in Entourage any Chase, Yeah,
kind of was the Aquaman. But really do that in
real life. I like it, Alredo, I like your style. Man.
(06:06):
Good luck to you and congrats on the film. The
movie is Dreamland, a storming fifty one story. It's hitting
theaters September. Bryan, thanks for us stopping by. B Mario,
thank you keep that smile going, man, because without Mario Lopez,
there might not have been a dream Land ration, my guy.
Thank you, man, Man. I appreciate that respect. Hope with
(06:29):
