Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fun with Mario Lopez. Stop Mario Lopez joining me out
on Zoom from the new series Beyond the Edge. Former
bachelor Colton Underwood, Welcome back to the show man. I've
been I'm good. A lot lots of change since I've
been on with you. Yeah, yeah, good. Yeah, it has
you seem happy. That's always good. Congratulations on your engagement.
(00:21):
So I saw your new home together. How how do
you like that valley life? I love the valley life.
I got a yard in a pool right and space,
and I never thought I could have that in l A.
You're exactly right, that's priceless right there. Any wedding planning
yet or still too soon? Uh? No, we've we've started,
like the guest list, we've started scouting venues. But you know,
COVID has definitely backed a lot of things up, so
(00:44):
we don't want a really long engagement. But we also
have to play with the cards that are dealt right
now in our society. Yeah, what seems like things are
opening up. So should be uh should be bright and
sunny and prosperous hopefully. Um, you're part of this new
series Beyond the Edge. Is it is it basically like
a celebrity survivor or how would you describe it? Yeah, essentially,
(01:07):
I mean, honestly, it was more competing with yourself. Um,
just getting thrown into the elements and really having to
figure out, you know, how long ago I want to
stay in this environment. You know, we're raising money for
our charities, we're working together, but still an individual game.
There's a little bit of a strategy to go into it,
which you'll see play on in the middle of the
(01:28):
season a little bit more. But um, an incredible cast
and group of people from different backgrounds that came together
to compete for good causes. So it was it was
a really cool experience. Yeah. That The cast includes a
couple of Hall of Fame linebackers Ray Lewis, Mike Singletary.
Who did you who'd you kicking with? From? From your cast? Oh? Man,
(01:48):
you know what I'm gonna say, I love them all.
And I had a relationship, you know, I had a
friendship with more in Atlanta going into it. But I
would say, you know, Mike Singletarity was really there for
me as a man of faith and somebody who just
like reached a hand aff and was like I can
tell like you got a lot going on in your head.
Let me take you under my wing. And he was
(02:09):
really there for me, so I would say singletary and
then all also Paulina Forskova. She was sort of like
the motherly figure for me and was always in my
corner and I tried to support her whenever I could too.
Nice stick here all right. You also have the Netflix
series coming out Colton. Are you happy with how that
came out? I'm happy with what the product like, Yes,
(02:31):
what was shown on Netflix for sure. Unfortunately, you know,
it got leaked around the same time with my coming out,
so that sort of had a lot of criticism and
people that had opinions of what was going on there. Um,
But I'm very proud of this series and what we
put out and what we what we made, because that
was that was the only really like the reason I
said yes at the end of the day when it
(02:51):
was sort of first talked about, was because I felt
like it could make an impact and a change in
a lot of Middle America for a lot of men
and women who are struggling with their sexual you know,
with their sexuality. Is it a one off or like
a couple of episodes? So we're thinking. In my opinion,
it's it's a one off. It's it's it's one and done.
I mean there, you know, obviously there was conversations whether
(03:14):
or not I was gonna continue this series with with
Jordan and I, but it's I've been there, done that.
Mario being on TV with significant other ads too much pressure,
I would say to the relationship, look at your maturing.
Look at that. H Let's let's talk a little Bachelor.
Since you mentioned it, Clayton has taken some heat over
how he handled the fantasy suits. You've obviously done on
(03:35):
that side of the camera. What's your take on it.
I mean I didn't completely watch the season, but I
mean I've you can't not see the Bachelor franchise. It's
everywhere you look, whether it's on Instagram and the news
or on Twitter. Um, you know, my my heart goes
out to him, just because you know, he was gonna
take heat no matter what it's. That's the whole premise
of the show is people have opinions on what you
(03:56):
should do with your personal life. Um, and I just
hope that he's he's gonna stay healthy after all of this. Yeah,
well that's a thing. Um, you said The Bachelor throws
the stars to the wolves after filming? What what what
changes do you think would would be smart for them
to make or you'd like to see. I think supporting
their leads first and foremost, Like that's at least where
(04:18):
they can start supporting their leads with with mental health
and um, listening to them. You know, when when people
are struggling, especially the former poster boys for their franchise,
listening and supporting them when they have an opinion or
something that is going to directly affect their mental health
because they know it's going to be plastered all over media.
Um is a start, and then from there, I mean
(04:40):
listening to the contestants as well, because that shows only
as strong as the characters and the people that they
build up on their franchise suggestions. What's your take on
the Bachelorette having two ladies now as contestants. Look, that's
that's the hard part about this franchise is you have
to keep leveling up and doing things that haven't been
(05:02):
done before to keep the audience of that franchise entertained.
So I I you know what, there are some crazy
masterminds behind that production, behind that show. So who knows
what they're cooking up at this point. Yeah, it sounds
it sounds pretty wild. We'll have to see you keeping
up with the Chargers. Tough division. It's a tough division,
but that defense is going to be looking good this
(05:24):
next season. Yes, it's been some really good pickups. I
think Herbert is coming into his own going to be
a star for a long time in this league. Um.
I think we've secured Mike in for another few years too. Huh,
franchise mom. I really like what they're doing. Um. I
can say this like two or three years ago. I
was like, Oh, they're really making that decision or they're
(05:46):
doing like what are they doing here? Um? The front
office for sure is stepping up. He loved to see it. Yes, okay,
that's a great note to end it on. Right there,
We're nice catching up with you, my man. Watch Beyond
the Edge. It's when days on CBS. Colton. Thanks for
hanging out, bro, Thank you appreciate for having me on.
You got a buddy, We'll see soon. Right on with
