Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario a little bit. Joining now on
Zoom from High School Musical, The musical the series, Corbin Blue,
who welcome the show man, I've been Are you open? Great? Man?
I'm excited that it's premiered today. I'm gonna be talking
with you. I love your love your jersey by the way. Thanks.
I don't know if it was intentional, but it's got
a very high school musical thing going on. All that's right,
(00:21):
the colors and stuff. It's just hot outside. I'm like
fight fans, you know, representing right here. But yeah, congrats,
you've got a special role returning for season three of
High School Musical. What was it like? Man? Returning to
that world? So incredible? Man? I surreal. I definitely a
world that I had always said if I was to
return and have to be under the right circumstances, and
(00:43):
Tim Federally, the show's creator, absolutely contrad up those circumstances.
And you know, he had presented some different scenarios, whether
like I'm going to come back and play my original
character of Chad, or am I coming back with a
different character, or am I going to come back is myself?
Which is exactly what we did. Um so even in
(01:04):
in in there too, just branching off again, it was like,
what would even that look like? What is what does
what does Corbin looked like? Coming back playing himself in
this world? And uh, I really love the arc that's
that's been created. Well, can you give us a tease
of what that looks like? Because since you're not playing
chat it's a little, uh, a little curb your enthusiasm
in a in a way which is kind of fun.
(01:25):
I think you can have a lot of fun with
that sort of character if you will. And it is
it's something that you probably can't give too much way
that's deliberate or you find yourself in that situation. How's
it works so well? So, I mean it's I actually
get to play kind of a jerkier, jaded version of myself,
(01:45):
which you know, if if in a different universe, if
Corbin had a different perspective, or at least, you know,
with the industry had had taken him down a different path,
what would that Corbd look like? And then we get
to see over the course of the season what this
(02:07):
new generation this cast as well as kind of being
thrown back into the mix of the world of Pig
stol musical, what it does to his heart and how
it doesn't remind him that this this world really does
mean a lot to him. Fine, man, that's clever. And uh,
it's been fifteen years since the original movie that flew by.
What do you remember about auditioning for that role? I
(02:30):
mean the audition process, I remember all of it. We
it was long. It was very long. I remember, you know,
revisiting that Disney Channel building multiple times, having to go
in and read, then uh, sing dance, uh, doing a
chemistry read with Monique Coleman. Uh, going back in reading
(02:50):
for Kenny Ortega was involved in that great Yeah, absolutely, yeah.
And then we had another day that I remember having
to go to Um, Debbie Reynolds in studio and working
with Chucky play Pal, the choreographer. UM. And we had
to do some choreography with the basketball and I'm terrible,
(03:11):
but I can't play save my life. But I showed
up in the uniform with my own ball, looked like
I was a baller. And then when it came down
to the choreography, you know, I was able to throw
that down. As long as long as it's in the
context of choreography, I'm good. And work until we showed
up on set. They were like, oh, you can't play.
(03:34):
That's great. Um. Do you still keep in touch with
the O G cast mates? I do. Man. As a
matter of fact, Monique Coleman is coming to the premiere tonight. Uh.
And I just finished doing a production of Mary Poppins.
Uh And and Lucas actually came and and Camon showed
(03:54):
his support and and and saw me in it. That's cool, man,
that's cool. What what about the rumors that when maybe
seeing other members in season three? I can't confirm many
of those rumors. I think it's like when you know
you you you start speaking about someone and then all
of a sudden they call you. I think there's just
(04:17):
a lot of energy somehow, for some reason that's surrounding
high school musical and clearly it's it's uh m, a
lot of us. Yes, you feel nostalgic and and kind
of go back and revisit so you might manifest it.
We'll have to see, you'll have to see. Um also
in the works, remember me the Mahalia Jackson story and
(04:38):
you're playing Cab Callaway. Huh, Yeah, thanks for talking about
love me Cab Callaway. Man. That's very cool. What can
you tell us about that? Absolutely? Yeah, that was I
got to shoot one day on this project. It was
such a whirlwind, um, but you know, I got to
(04:58):
I got to do a bit of prior and I
had a day in the recording studio to actually go
and record a song as as as cab um. But
the storyline follows Mahellia Jackson and it's it's it's her
biopic um and over the course of her career she
had several different influences, and one of which being Cab Calloway.
(05:19):
So we actually get to see a scene where she
walks into her first you know, jazz club and sees
a performance from from Cab Calloway. Uh, and it is Yeah,
he's he's a performer. That It wasn't until I started
diving into more that I didn't realize how many similarities
(05:42):
there were and connections there were. And I found that
I was actually able to sink into him really quickly
and easily, which and and and when I go and
I've seen it now, I've seen the movie and I've
seen the scene, and uh, I'm I'm very happy with it.
I I feel like it's it's something that people will
(06:06):
be really surprised to be able to see a completely
different performance from me. Good for you, man, congrats, look
forward to checking that out. And what about the family
you married? I am married. Yeah, we actually we just
celebrated six years. Six years. Congrats. No kids, no kids,
no kids you want? We don't. We don't plan on it.
(06:27):
We're kids. Yeah, yeah, and that's okay. You know what,
you don't have to have them one day down the line.
But we're you know, we we we like, we like
our life it is right now. We like our sweep. Hey,
I trust me. I got three of them, so I'm jealous. Right.
You always tell people you don't have to have them.
It's not like a prerequisite once you get married. You know,
(06:49):
you got like Elon Musk and Nick Cannon picking up
the slack, so you got worried about having uh you
got we're good for you. Good for you. So you
celebrated six years. Congratulations, but nice, enjoy enjoy the time. Man.
It's it's amazing and and and truly, I'm I'm so
lucky to just have found my my partner in life, man,
(07:10):
my person, and we are we are happier today than
than the day we started. Nice Hey, it's great to
hear man well. Congratulations on everything and listen watch High
