Mario Fun with Mario.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Lopez Debriel Mario Lopez joining now on Zoom actor and
TikTok star Patrick Renna.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
How you doing, man, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm well.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
We were just talking before we came on air here
that we haven't I believe met in person, but I've
been admiring you and your work for a long time.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Now.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
You look fantastic.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Thank you, Thank you. I took a page out of
your book. You look great.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Hey, yeah, get a little more, Rett, though, I'm gonna
easy to take me to the gym.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
You look it good, brother. I wouldn't change the thing.
I don't know most people, of course, Patrick, remember you
from one of the greatest movies of all time, The Sandlot,
which turns.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Thirty years old this year. It's crazy to think thirty
years man. Huh yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Know, it's pretty wild. It goes by fast.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
What do you remember about the audition process?
Speaker 4 (00:49):
I you know, it's a very memorable one because it
actually was my first real audition. Oh wow, yeah, I
think I auditioned for Free Willie before that, but it
was like some massive casting call and I didn't even
get into the room. So this I call my first,
but they they originally had cast the Sandlot or they
(01:11):
wanted to cast younger kids and then so they had
a whole group of them. But then they sort of
started table reading and realizing they're too young to say
half this stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
It just doesn't really work it right out.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
So they started recasting and it was kind of a crazy,
you know process, and I was the last guy cast,
so it was pretty overnight.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
It was like I went in met the director.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Forty eight hours later, I'm on a baseball field playing
with the guys.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
That's awesome. Did you guys shoot out here in La.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
No, we shot it in Salt Lake City, Utah. It
was supposed to be the valley out here in La Yeah,
and the valley doesn't look like the valley in the sixties,
so the Salt Lake still has kind of, you know,
sixties vibes.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
For the old vallety. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Oh that's great, man, that's great.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I know there's a Disney plus a Sandlot series coming out, right,
that's what they say.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I've been hearing that for a little you know, we'll
see it's funny.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
At the end of the movie, they tell it, you know,
they tell the audience everything that everyone becomes thirty years later.
So it's almost like the director knew, you know, eight
episode series were coming in thirty years because it's all
written there.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
What did you become a wrestler?
Speaker 3 (02:23):
I mean, come on, like, you know, I could have
just come off.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Of an amazing wrestling career and you know that's what
I was saying joking. It just starts with me on
the top rope jumping off, and now.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
You're in I am so I am watching that guy.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
I hope that comes to fruition. So we've got to
put it out there in the universe. And you're still
involved in baseball. You coach your son's T ball team, right.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yep, I do. It's a little more wrangling than coaching.
They're pretty young, but there it's fun.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's you know, it just brings me back and I
get on a baseball field twice a week, so that's cool.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
That's awesome man. And you recently launched a clothing brand,
Hambino Athletics. Am I pronouncing that Ryan?
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Hambino Athletics. Yeah, I'm wearing one of the shirts.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Here there we go, of course, named after iconic Sandlock character,
So tell me about it.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Yeah, I just you know, I'd seen a bunch of
shirts out there in the world, and so obviously people
were interested in it, and we kind of created our
own design to it. I teamed up with the creative
director of The Mighty Company, and she does high end
female jackets.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
So I just wanted to, you.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Know, do not just a merch line, but like a nice,
nice at leisure line that had cool designs. And so
we have a we have a pretty good sized line
now and it's been going great, and we had started
the Hambino Foundation with it, so there's a charity aspect
to it. A portion of the proceeds goes to that,
which will you know, we're going to help underserved communities
get baseball fields, get sporting equipment. So it's all kind
(03:49):
of tied together, but you know, it's just a it's
a fun another thing to keep you busy.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I love it. I'd rock the shirt. I'd rock the shirt.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
You had it right here? Who sent anyone?
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Then that's it medium rather than medium. Okay, I'm serious
on your way.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Okay, I appreciate that this is cool, man, because this
is one of my favorite summer treats. Dairy Queen Blizzard
you've teamed up with DQ to launch some new flavors, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Well they're bringing it back into the most popular flavor
of the Blizzard was the Smaller's Blizzard. Yes, it kind
of works out that I'm now the spokesperson for the
Moores Blizzard and I we shot these, We did a
shoot day and so you know, I ate a couple
of them myself.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
It goes delicious as you should.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
As you should, and you sort of launched this on
your TikTok account, which has really been blowing up these
last few years. What kind of content can people expect
from you if they follow?
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, I just like to keep it fun, you know.
We I'm not I don't know if i'd call it dancing.
I do an attempt at some dancing, Okay. I have
a couple other guys. We call ourselves the Chubby Gingers.
So there's three of us, and you know, we'll kind
of run a little bit.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
I'm down with the chubb Who are the other Chubby Gingers.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
They're two really good friends of mine. One of my
best friends growing up. Her name now is Lindsay Moore.
Her maiden name was Lindsay Bartleston. She was on Grounded
for Life.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
You remember that show.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, she's a choreographer too, so she's quite a dancer.
So well, I do it with her husband and brother
in law and she, you know, she it takes us
an hour or two, but she keeps us in line
and makes it interesting.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
That's awesome.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Now the trick is Chubby Gingers meets you know, DQ Blizzard.
Gotta do it, Gotta do a little combo there or
something like that.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, that's that's the hook that we need to see.
Were you from originally?
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Patrick, I'm from the East Coast, Boston.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
I was there until Sam Lot so I moved to
LA and jumped into acting from Boston.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Oh wow, so that's why you don't have the an
accent you lost?
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, you know, it's funny.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
I have videos of myself when I was eight, and
I have a thick, thick Boston accent, and I just
lost it.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I can't even do a fake. I'm like, you know,
Mark Wahlberg does a great one.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, well he still has it. That's why they.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Can go in and out.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Yeah, you know, man and Matt Damon, they do a
great one. I try and mess with it and it
just doesn't sound as good.
Speaker 1 (06:13):
That's funny.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
Man. Well, I'm happy to see your brother, and congrats
on everything you've got going on. I'm and be looking
forward to my shirt I'm a Rocket.
Speaker 3 (06:19):

to have that Blizzard. It really is something special.
Speaker 2 (06:25):

to check out Patrick's new clothing line, hand Bino Athletics,
and of course the new Blizzard flavors at Dairy Queen
all summer long. Thanks so much for checking in, Patrick,
Have a good day, brother knocks in.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
