Speaker 1 (00:00):
I had one with Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Tegarl Mario Lopez joining me now on Zoom actress, author cook,
my buddy Tiffany thes and welcome the show.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
How are you?
Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm good, dab, how are you great?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Always nice to see you.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
And before we get into your book, it's funny because
we've been seeing each other lately a bit, and I got.
Speaker 4 (00:19):
My kids had so much fun with the boys that
they want to know when we can have a play date.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Oh, I know my kids love your kids. They are
so sweet, so well behaved.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
I love them. And your husband's such a nice guy too.
Speaker 5 (00:30):
So just want to.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
He's well behaved at times. But yes, definitely we'll have to.
We'll have to get them together. But I wanna talk
about your new cookbook. Congratulations, here we go again, recipes
and inspiration to level up your leftovers. I don't know
if you know this, but I am the heavyweight champion
of leftovers.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
Yeah, I believe me.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
I know that very well.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I love me a leftover. I love getting creative with them.
So I'm hoping that's what I'll get from this book,
because I will eat so my wife's Italian right, my mother.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
In law lives with us. I think you know that.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
So every Sunday she makes this big Italian meal and
it's it's amazing and I'll eat it till at least Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah, because all the leftovers and it's great.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
And I'm always telling people, man, leftovers are so solid
because I grew up not wanting to waste food.
Speaker 4 (01:22):
So I'm sure you were the same, right, And I
was the same way. I grew up with a family
that didn't have a ton of money. My mom was
always trying to literally spread the food throughout the week.
You know, my dad worked two jobs to allow her
to stay home and raise three kids, and so like
you know, roasted chicken on Monday was then made into
enchilada is the next day. And I was always had
that instilled in me. And so when I had this
(01:43):
idea for a book, it wasn't so much because of that.
It was more about wanting to teach my kids about
food waste and I'm such a stickler with that. And
then my husband, on the other hand, hates leftovers, so
it was kind of an yes, he can't stand and
he goes, I had it last night, I don't need
to have it again. I'm like, you know what, there
are things that are better the second time around. Pizza
is one of them. Thanksgivings another. Like I could go
(02:06):
endless on.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
The amount of exactly Is he an only child?
Speaker 3 (02:09):
No, he's not.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
That's weird because my brother in law is an only child,
and my sister always tells me he doesn't like leftovers.
That goes that's some only child spoiled stuff because we
have siblings, you'll be eating left ever kids.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Is more like, I don't know, he's He's definitely has
germ things. So maybe it's like he doesn't like it's
sitting in the fridge longer than a few minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
I don't know who knows.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
What it is.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
That's funny.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
So I want to hear some specifics, like what's an
example of something I can do.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Let's say you mentioned pizza. Would like leftover pizza?
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Yeah, so pizza. I love pizza. I love cold pizza.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
But one of the things that I love to do
for my kids and for Brady is I'll make it
a breakfast sandwich in the morning, So I'll do a
nice fried egg on it, I'll do a little parmesan
crystal on top, and I'll make it so good. So
there's things like that. There's things like leftover rice. I
always have leftover right.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Right, or risotta.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Really Aaron Cheney is one of those things that I
make with leftover risotto, leftover rice. I love making rice
sushi cakes so the kids can actually have sushi at home.
Speaker 5 (03:11):
That's another one that's great.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
I mean, there's a plethora of ideas leftover coffee, coffee grinds, Like,
I have so many ideas all in this book. It's
all kind of sectioned off into different chapters, from like
the produce spin to everything dairy to everything you know,
like bread or whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I mean, I have.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Ideas for leftover, Like my kids will throw out the
leftover chips that.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Are broken at the bottom of a bag.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
I'm like, I have quite a few ideas what you
can do with that.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Ooh, I want to get this book because not only
do I enjoy leftovers, I like the fact that I'm
being resourceful and clever with it, right.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
Yeah, it's really trying to think outside the box too,
with the same knowledge of knowing that you're not wasting right,
because that goes back to my childhood not wasting anything
and really trying to teach my kids and and I honestly,
this was just a few years ago. I didn't realize
that forty percent of our food from from farm to
table literally get wasted.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
I mean that's almost half, and that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Yep, you're exactly right. It's a great message for kids.
Congrats because that's really cool. I want to I want
to check that out. Are you uh, are you planning
a book tour or any signing?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
I am, Yes, I'll be starting off in New York
and heading out to some major cities. I'm going to
be releasing that book tour public next week.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
So oh nice.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
But yeah, I'll be here in LA for a couple
of places in New York for about four days.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
So good good. And what's up with deliciousness? Speaking of
food on it?
Speaker 5 (04:33):
Oh, what's up with deliciousness?
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Because you did? You did three seasons?
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Did We've done three seasons? And and you know, I
think with the change of so many of these networks,
who knows what's happening? Right, I'd love to do it again.
I mean, we have a great time. It was a
great cast, super fun and I love that job. So
hopefully we'll get another one.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
The share did you did you do that with Supervans
or with what was the production company? Oh, super Jacket
your sa We're super Yes, I love Sorry, I'm so confused.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
With this stuff.
Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, those guys are great.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Those guys are my buddy, Dana White owns that production company. Yeah,
and so uh yeah, we were talking about some other
sort of clip show and I'm like, oh yeah, and
then you do.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
They were telling me the shows they do, and they did.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
A couple of them.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Some of them didn't last, but ours did luckily, and
we we'll get another one. But you know, I mean,
if hey, if I can bank like ridiculousness, that would
be amazing.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I know.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
That's that pretty much took over MTV. Hey, I saw
you recently got into TikTok.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Can you believe it? This old lady's finally on TikTok.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
I was late to the game myself.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
I've just been on it, I know, but you weren't
as late as me.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, I'm not that much. You know, maybe I got
you by a few months, but that was it. It
was just because it's it's a lot, you know, like a.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Lot, and it's already a lot.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
I'm like, there's a whole other job.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
I'm not the one. I'm like, my god, so, but the.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
Food stuff is so big on TikTok.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Stuff is huge, So it made sense for me to
finally get on there and start showing some of my
food stuff on there.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
Yeah, I get a lot of that recip It's.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Been really fun because it's literally not that my kids
are on social but Harper's always like, what you know,
I hear about these she hears about the trends, of course,
and I'm having to go and try to follow these
trends as an almost fifty year old woman.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
So it's kind of funny that is, well, it's funny
because you mentioned that milestone age.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
I'm around the corner.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
I know we're bud, I know you are.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
Right before for me. What are we doing for our
fiftieth dude.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Matt, you know what's fun Well, these guys give me
a hard time. There's a whole jingle about me turning
fifty is it's awful, And so I've been very conflicted
because I don't know, number one, what fifty is supposed
to feel like. I feel good, but then sometimes I
wake up and everything hurts. Well, I mean sometimes a
lot of times, and I'm just like, I know, it's
(06:45):
a point where you pause and sort of reflect how
you got here and then what's to come in the future.
I mean, look, it's inevitable, right, We're lucky we're at
this age. A lot of people haven't made at this age.
But it is a weird I think once it's over with,
I'll be better.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
But were you Were you nervous about forty because I
I was more unsettled about turning forty.
Speaker 5 (07:03):
Than I am almost fifty.
Speaker 4 (07:04):
I don't know why, And maybe it's because during my forties,
early forties, late thirties, I was having my kids. So
maybe it was hormonal or I don't know what it
was in my body, you know, like I was feeling
very unsettled about my forty than I am. I feel
so great right now, like you know what I mean, Like,
I don't know. Maybe maybe I just feel more settled,
and maybe that's just hormonal for me as a woman.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
And you look great because it's not like fifty. When
we were kids, it seemed very old and they looked
all their years.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Well they were like smoking, yeah, yeah, yeah, I am
like so many bad things.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
They looked all the year, so I think I'll be fine,
and I think you'll be fine too. Okay, Yeah, so
we're gonna we're gonna lean into it and embrace it.
When did the kids go back to school?
Speaker 3 (07:49):
The end of August? So soon? We only have like
a month left. It goes by so fast, so wild.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
It seems like it gets sooner every year.
Speaker 5 (07:55):
I know.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I agree. I had some friends that started school last week.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
I'm like, what, Yeah, yeah, that's crazy, it's crazy crazy.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
Have any of the kids showed any interest in watching
any of your work? Well, Arper told me she saw
Save by the Bell. She said, yeah, she did. She
she was kind of like she it.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Was more of a of a sort of a thing
that she just wanted to watch it all like to
say that she's seen it, but she she was definitely
very like, you know, the shows back then, mom, are
definitely not as entertaining as you know, Like I get it.
I think the attention spans very different. Things are slower, right,
(08:36):
I mean it's just different. But my you know, like
my Netflip show and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
She loved those.
Speaker 4 (08:42):
I mean that was more her speed and more her
of her age at that time. And Hope really hasn't
gotten into any of that yet. You know, he's still
very very boy and watches what he watches.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Well, my kids have zero interest to watch me or to.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Hear me because they get you tow on at full seven.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
They could care less.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
We'll tip again.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Congrats on the book, Here We Go Again, comes out
September twenty six, but.
Speaker 1 (09:06):

so much for hanging out. Let me know we'll get together.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
Yeah, we'll hopefully see you soon before the summer ends.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
