Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez Lopez joining me on
Zoom from Bachelor Nation, Wells Adams and celebrity chef Tyler Florence.
Welcome to the show. Gentlemen. How are we doing a
toxic man? How are you, my friend? I'm doing well.
Thank you. I know you're speaking to me from Veil.
Appreciate you taking the time. It looks nice and sunny there.

(00:20):
I'm sure it's still pretty pretty nippy. What well is
where are we talking you from? I am not in Veil.
I'm in Studio City, so just as nice, close your
eyes exactly. However, you will be cold, um pretty soon,
because we were just talking off air that you're gonna
be at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, right yeah. My

(00:42):
beautiful wife is Uh is going to be performing on
one of the floats, which is super cool, Like we
watch it every every year and then now I get
to see her perform. She's gonna be performing with Adam Devine.
They've got a new show called Bumper in Berlin that's
coming out um, which is super cool. And you know,
speaking of Macy's, we're doing like a whole tie in

(01:02):
with Macy's today, which I thought, Wow, that's synergy right there.
It's it works, and that's some serious energy that I'm
gonna get to later. I will be seeing you out there.
I'll be with my family on the first float, leading
the charge, trying not to freeze on the Turkey float.
Perfect for you, man, you got. I love the Macy
Thanksgiving Day, Frede Man. And so I lived in New
York City for fifteen years and now I'm ount in

(01:24):
San Francisco. But um, not just what we did. So,
I would do the Today's Show every day, I mean,
everything's giving. And then we were literally like I would
take my son, uh and a few of friends and
then we would go sit, you know, right next to
Matt Loward Katy Kirk, and we just watched the parade
to go by an out Grooper and and it's such
a spectacular spectacle. It's so much fun. It's like New

(01:44):
York City comes together. It really is. And it's a
time honor tradition. So honored to be there. Um. Now,
let's talk about the new podcast. You guys recently launched.
Two Dudes in a Kitchen my kind of title, how
do how do you get together? And what's the premise? Well,
go ahead of No. I'm I'm such a huge like

(02:05):
Wells fan. I mean, you know when when when the
powers that be through the good folks, I Heart Radio said, listen,
you know we we think you guys will be good together.
Wells and I met um a couple of years ago
when he was a contestant and I'd like to add
a winning contestant on the Worst Cooks in America. Uh
we we just we clicked and uh, you know we
we're we're huge food fans. And uh and he's got

(02:27):
like good Southern ties too. So is a good Southern boy.
So he knows about a good biscuits and gravy and
all that kind of fun stuff, which is great. And uh,
you know, it's a it's a great podcast where we're
gonna get together once a week and crack each other up,
talk about what's happening in the kitchen, take phone calls,
and just jump in the food with both feet. It's
too fun, fun. Man. I'm a major foodie, very passionate

(02:48):
when it comes to food. I'm really a fact hit
at heart, so I can dig this sort of deal. Um.
A lot of cooking shows are obviously visual, is it is?
I gotta imagine tricky to explain a recipe when it's
audio only. Right, Well, I think we're gonna jump in
the video right after this. We're gonna we're launching right
now with audio as a calling thing, because I think
there's the theater of the mind of it all, and

(03:09):
I think in a lot of ways you can help
people out, you know, by just you know, asking them
what's in the refrigerator and start breaking down you know,
different sauces and the negrettes and and ways to utilize
leftovers for Thanksgiving and all kinds of fun stuff that
are coming up. And then I I definitely see us
eventually kind of getting into like hands on cooking as
part of this whole thing will be a fun evolution.
But I do think that like, um, just listening to

(03:31):
the podcast, you can learn so much. Like the episode
that's out right now is entitled, UM, Tyler and Wells
Saved Thanksgiving, and so we just go over the things
that you need to know before you host a big
Thanksgiving dinner. And one of the things that I can't
believe he said it, but he's starting a new hashtag.
Tyler wants to hashtag stop cooking a whole turkey. Really

(03:57):
you gotta wrap it up. You know. It's one of
those things that like everyone bangs against the all every year,
you know, with the same technique on how to cook
a whole birds, Like you've got a bird that's uh
twelve or fourteen pounds, unless you say it's a little
froze in the middle, probably is, you know, let's be real.
And then if you stick that into the oven at

(04:18):
you know, three five degrees and cook it for four hours,
by the time all that radiant heat not only penetrates
the top layer of the turkey itself, but gets out
to the bones. And that's the thing that people are
most concerned when it comes to Thanksgiving. If it's a
little pink at the bone, people start to get really nervous.
And so by the time you do that, you've really
just destroyed the texture of the turkey. And then the

(04:38):
only thing that could possibly say to you was gravy.
So we came up with this technique a couple of
years ago, and there's two ways you can do it.
Bad cock is something that we talked about about ten
years ago and and it's definitely all over the place
on the internet, all over the place on YouTube, so
you can definitely kind of look that up as a resource.
But then I also like taking a whole turkey and
breaking it down as if it were a big chicken.

(05:00):
So two breasts, two legs, and that's gonna be the
thigh and the drumstick and then the wings connected to
the breast itself and then just so a little bit
of simple salt and pepper, right and then uh, and
you want to cook its skin side down because the
skin tastes really reallygal worcious and brown it until it's
nice and gorgeous, flip it over and then put it
onto a shoot trade bake it off from the oven.
Uh it's like three D and three fifty three seventy five, right,

(05:25):
and then you want to cook it until you get
an instantly thermometer that give you gives you an internal
temperature of about a hundred and fifty five degrees and
you've never had better, more delicious, more moist circle your
entire life. That that's a solid tip. And you know what,
totally visualized that didn't need didn't need the video. You
you painted a nice picture right there. I like that.
I'm a darkneat guy anyway, So it's gotta have a

(05:45):
lot more flavor to it. Real quick, Tyler, coming to January,
You're part of this new competition, Special Forces World's Toughest Tests.
What can you tease us about? You know, I'm so
excited to actually see that. That was one of the
toughest things I've ever done in my entire life. So
Fox called and then we talked about it for maybe
two weeks and and you know, got a chance to

(06:06):
see some of the British version of the Stow because
it's like the number one show on the UK also
in Australia, and it's been a rap about twelve seasons
on in the UK. It's it's the first season that
it's gonna be on in America. And myself and sixty
other celebrities went to Jordan's went to the Middle East
and uh and then really kind of you know, put
ourselves to the paces with Special Forces operators and I've
never I've never been more humble than my tire in life.

(06:29):
Like you think you're in shape, but you're not right
until you kind of get out there and you're jogging,
you know, jogging ten fifty miles in loose sand with
a thirty pound rock stack on your back and then
having to like, you know, do do a you know,
do a dive fifty ft off out of a helicopter
into the Red Sea. Like it's like real, real, legit crazy,
it's real, real, And we had to keep we had

(06:52):
to keep telling ourselves and this is kind of fake
because it really kind of feel like we're in a
war zone. It was the crazy life. It would be
it would be great television. Okay, look forward to checking
that out. And and well, let's like a little Bachelor
Nation real quick, Brittany Tyler, they didn't work out on Paradise.
Eric and Gabby split after Bachelorette. What they're on a
bit of a bad run here. Why don't you think

(07:13):
these particular relationships are working out? Well, I can't speak
for The Bachelor or the Bachelorette because I only did
that show once. Um, but I can speak for Paradise,
and Paradise has a pretty good track record. We've got
a bunch of people who do Yeah, but makes sense.
It's like no pussum. It's like a singles retreat, you know,

(07:34):
it's a it's a thing that you kind of would
do in the real world, and you get a lot
more time with um the folks. And so yeah, this
this season, we've got some like really beautiful couples that
come out of it. Um, Wednesday's the or Tuesday's the finale,
and you're gonna see some really really cute couples come

(07:55):
out of it. And then of course there's gonna be
a lot of drama and um, a lot of tears
and a lot of crabs on the sand kind Oh
no fun intended there, got it? Got in, Tyler? How
many kids you got? I have three, have three beautiful children. Uh.
My My fifteen year old is actually up in ski
school up in the veiled mountain right here behind me.

(08:18):
And my oldest is twenty six. He's a he's an
engineer with Google. And our fourteen year old daughter is professional,
not professional, but she feels like it. But she's in
a competitive dance group. Uh and she you know, loves
step hop in theater and all content like, and she's
getting ready for high school. So yeah, it's great man.
We're here in bail we're actually opening a new restaurant,

(08:38):
Miller and Laxon new Steakhouse in San Francisco. We're opening
a bail off Sat about three weeks, so that's the
reason we're here. Yeah, congrats to you. And is it
is it too soon to start thinking about expanding the family?
Is this to me, sir? I just got married like
two months ago, Mario? Can I can I just chill
for us? Enjoy that absolutely? And I would, as an

(09:01):
old married guy with a few kids myself, enjoy every
stage because once a baby does come, as I'm sure
it's how I can tell you, it's a game changer
in your life. Is never the same, for the better,
but never the same. But yeah, without a doubt. I
always tell tell like, young you've never felt love before
until you look in the eyes of your child. Absolutely,
it's different. You know, it's like like you love your spouse,

(09:23):
but you love your children, and I think it's it's
a really kind of wonderful feeling to feel. And you know,
you're you're raising your best friends and uh, you know,
so it's like in every year, you know, like you
think you couldn't love them more, but you always do,
and they just become really interesting people and it's just
fascinating to be able with them. You know how these
these like you know, these three young folks are couldn't

(09:43):
be anymore wildly different from each other. But but they
just you know, they're learning to navigate the world through
our lens and you know, with our influence of what
we've exposed in two over their life. And it just
feels it feels purposeful, right, like you're doing some good work.
Is absolutely I say, well, good luck to you man,
when and if that point comes, Um, thanks buddy. Thanksgiving,

(10:05):
of course, gentlemen, is tomorrow, and Christmas is coming up
right around the corner. We've teamed up with our good
friends at Macy's for Macy's wish List Wednesday, because because
Macy's is hooking everything up that you need for holiday
prep shot Macy's dot com slash Everything Holiday for all
your needs. Mrs Lopez and I are gonna pick up
some seasonal candles, she loves that sort of thing, some
holiday ornaments, and of course a lot of stucking stuff. First,

(10:29):
what about you, guys, what's on your wish list this year?
I got two things that I think will be perfect
for Thanksgiving this year. One is the Mega Chef Immersion
Suvie Um. I'm not sure if you've suvied things, but
it definitely makes life a whole lot week. What is Suvie?
Tell me? So, it's basically this device that goes into
um like a big pot of water and it cooks

(10:50):
whatever's in the water at the exact temperature it needs
to be. So it's like full proof steaks. The poached
eggs are amazing, especially like to day after Thanksgiving when
you're having brunched. If you want to make eggs Benedict,
it just makes life. It's got an app on your phone.
You say I wanted to be at this temperature, it
tells you when it's done. It's the best thing in
the world. I've never heard about this. I'm totally gonna

(11:13):
get one. You guys have already sold me. So this
is this is getting added to the list. What was
number two? Well, the other one was the Crux stand mixer.
I don't bake but my but my wife does, and
I mean she makes a mean pumpkin pie, which obviously
is going to be perfect for Thanksgiving, and so we've

(11:33):
got one of those and she whips up pumpkin pies
in there and it's absolutely delicious. Those are my two things.
Those are solid. Okay, what about it? Let me before
I tell you about mine, it's jump into the suv
think for second. Uh, if you it's kind of one
of those cooking techniques that has made its way from
the finest restaurants in the world and to the every

(11:54):
day kitchen a lot like the way the microwave oven
was next wave techno alogy back in the sixth How
do you spell that? How do you spell that? Yeah,
it's two words, so s O U s v I
d e suvie. It's French for office us and what
was the second one? I'm sorry, the v I D e. Right,
it's French, and so yeah, there you go. So it

(12:16):
technically means under back them. So so you want to
take like proteins, like steak is really great. Uh if
you've heard about a reverse sear, right, so this is
like how you would kind of cook it in the
middle and then seared at the last minute, which is great.
And then what well just kind of brought up which
I think if you're gonna jump into stuvied one or
one eggs are the best thing to master with the suvie.

(12:37):
You've never poached better eggs in life. Specifically, if people
might not ever heard about phenomenal phenomenal, Right, So like
poaching eggs I think is like the best way to
kind of get started and really mask and something quick.
Like you could if you've got to, say, you know,
twelve people or six people for brunch and you want
to make eggs better Dick, or you just want to
poach some eggs, like literally putting them into a pot

(12:58):
of water and using the the it's an immerging stick
winder and you pop it in and it's got this
app that uh with bluetooth through your phone, so so
you can you can sync up the exact temperature. I
think it's like it's like sixty eight degrees celsius and
it takes about thirty five minutes, but thirty five minutes
that you're not really doing anything, and then you can
literally scramble, you know you can. You can like you know,

(13:19):
to saft and English muffins. Um, you can make a
nice esso. You can broil some tomatoes, you can add
some smoked salmon to that, and then when you're ready
for you make a lovely holidaise. And then when you're
ready for that moment, like you literally cracking an egg
pop into a bowl and it's a perfect, perfect sphere
that fits just on top of the in English muffin,

(13:39):
and you know you're gonna feel like a like a
world class Michelin star chef by using one of these things.
It's a great tool. I'm going down the Suvie rabbit hole.
I'm totally gonna get this. It sounds like a lot
to have along with um, like a crock pot. I'm ready, dude.
Products are no joke, man, I love like you. It's
always a fan of the best. Yeah, it's great. Man.

(14:02):
If it's like if you want to make, you can
make like tacos out of that right, like fo shoulder
anything of course, just yeah, really great. You know, uh,
pot rose out of that brace, chicken grape, the suits,
all kinds of pot pots? Are the jail done about it?
Well shot Macy's dot com slash Everything Holiday and the
best part Wishless Wednesday Sports, Big Brother Big Sisters of America.

(14:23):
Just go to Macy's dot com slash Purpose and don'tate
two Big Brothers and bring Big Sisters of America and
help support their mission to inspire youth equity and empower
kids to reach their potential. Remember to watch the Macy's
Thanksgiving Day Parade tomorrow at nine am to noon. So
Wells and I are going to be in New York.
What are you gonna be doing on Thanks Keivin Tyler.
I'm gonna be back in northern California. We have thirty

(14:46):
people coming over to the house, which is gonna be
kind of crazy. And and so last year's turkey, I
felt was kind of a new one I called like
a benchmark recipe. So I'm gonna i have I'm using
four turkeys defeat thirty people, right, and one turkey I'm
gonna break down to just make a moose out of right.
So I'm gonna actually take the deep on the entire turkey,

(15:07):
and then I'm gonna curiate it with a little bit
like like soft cooked onion, fresh time, black truffle, a
little bit of egg. Why I'm gonna make a turkey moose.
And then with that, I'm gonna I'm gonna take the
other three turkeys, I'm gonna deep on them, and I'm
gonna pipe in black truffle moose inside the other turkeys,
I'm gonna roll them up and I'm gonnaroast. It's gonna
look like a beef tender wing. Follow my Instagram feed

(15:28):
you're gonna watch. It's pretty sick. It's a pretty because
you get this perfect little medalay. Yeah, yeah, you got
me of course of gravy, of course, some sweet potatoes,
course and process crouts. So it's make kind of fun man,
to be great. We can't wait. Well, your problem with
our podcast is that after it, I'm just hungry. I
just need to go, like to have five star Michelin

(15:50):
restaurant plan on getting a little chubby. I would say, um,
do you have well? Well, well, well, so was up
in a restaurant a couple of days ago, Man, and
we had so much fun host and everybody. We did
our first podcast from mill around and well how did
the stakes? Yeah? That was the best Tomahawks steak. That
was the best steak I've ever had in my entire life.

(16:12):
So now I'm hungry. That's how I look forward to
checking out around. Wells you gotta place you're eating Thanksgiving dinner?
Since here in New York. Yes, Sarah's from Manhattan, so
we're going to parents. You know that works out Flora
walk up. Yeah, so it's gonna be great. I'm I'm
so excited. We normally host and I get annoyed because

(16:32):
it's just like all the clean up and everything. I
want someone else to do the work. So this year
it's gonna be fun. That's a good move. Well, gentlemen,
I appreciate the time. Congratulations on everything. And you can
listen to two dudes in a kitchen on I Heart
Radio or wherever you get podcast. Tyler, Well, thanks hanging out. Yeah,
it looks like congratulations on your purple belt. By the way, man,

(16:54):
thanks to you. Roll. Yeah I do. Yeah, yeah, I'm
a white belt one stripe. I just started about seven
months ago. Jiu jitsus changed my life. It didn't game
change work out ever, keep it out. You're a big inspiration.
Yeah man, thanks inspiration man, I appreciate it. Right on.
Then take care, guys. I take fun with Mario a
little pass.
