Alice In Chains will release its new album, Rainier Fog, on August 24.
The band announced the title and release date for its sixth studio album Thursday morning. Rainier Fog is the first Alice In Chains album in 20 years to have been at least partially recorded in the band's home town of Seattle. Tracking for the LP was also reportedly done in Los Angeles and Nashville.
To accompany the announcement, Alice In Chains released a second track in advance of the album. You can listen to the new song, "So Far Under," below.
"...[We] certainly have something to say with this one," guitarist Jerry Cantrell told Guitar World in April regarding the new album. "It's a f***ing strong record."
While the meaning of the album title remains unclear, it may be a reference to the band's home state. Mount Rainer is just 40 miles southeast of Cantrell's birth place in Tacoma, Washington.
Rumors that Alice in Chains was working on a new album began to circulate in December after the band announced spring tour dates. Bassist Mike Inez revealed around the same time that the band had studio time on its schedule.
"[The album has] got our fingerprint," Cantrell said. "And we’re really proud of the material that we wrote and the performances we captured. There’s some really heavy s**t, some really ugly stuff, some real beautiful stuff, some weirdo trippy s**t. … It’s good!”
The first single in advance of the album was "The One You Know," which accompanied by a music video. Cantrell says that song was inspired by Davie Bowie's "Fame."
