Priyanka Chopra isn't going to let rumors of a feud get in the way of her friendship with Meghan Markle.
The Suits star has been the victim of criticism ever since her relationship with Prince Harry was made public in 2017. The Duchess of Sussex is biracial, which has led to racist and inappropriate remarks online, prompting the Royal family to begin deleting comments from their Instagram profiles. During an interview with The Sunday Times, Chopra addressed the media's criticism of her longtime friend, admitting it is "really unfortunate" before adding "But if there's anyone who can handle it, it's her."
When asked if she thought the root of the problem was some people's inability to accept a biracial woman in the monarchy, the 36-year-old responded frankly. "For sure, 100%. Of course it has to do with racism, it's an obvious reason," she said. "But the beauty of Meg is that she's been herself through all of this. A lot of people got to know her after everything [once she started dating Harry], but I knew her before and she's the same chick."
"Now that she's got a real platform, she talks about the same things she always did," she continued. "We spent hours speaking about the difference that influence and dialogue can make to the world before this whole thing happened, so what you see now is authentically her. She's always been the girl wanting to move the needle."
The comments come amidst a whirlwind of feud rumors that were sparked when Markle didn't attend Chopra's wedding to Nick Jonas and fueled when the Quantico actress didn't attend the shower for baby Archie. Though Chopra has yet to meet the newest member of the Royal family, she made it clear during a visit to Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen that there is no bad blood between her and Markle.
