A favorite attraction at many water parks is the wave pool, a large body of water that releases small artificial waves that mimic the ocean. However, the fun times at the wave pool at one water park in China came to a quick end when it released an enormous tsunami on all the swimmers. It was all caught on camera and posted to Twitter with the caption, "Water world Tsunami injuring many in Yanbian, Manchuria. The operator got drunk and turned the wave magnitude to maximum level."
It actually happened at the Yulong Shuiyan Water Amusement Park in Longjing, near the border with North Korea. The clip shows the giant wave throwing swimmers and people floating in tubes.
According to international reports, 44 people were hurt in the incident with injuries ranging from bruises to fractured ribs.
A theme park worker refuted reports that the operator was intoxicated stating, "Online rumors say that a worker wrongly operated the controls, but in reality it was a problem with the equipment."
The park is investigating exactly what went wrong to cause the malfunction.
