Netflix Will Start Dropping Episodes Weekly Instead Of All At Once

Is Netflix planning to start dropping episodes of their shows weekly instead of all at once? The internet was abuzz on Tuesday (September 3) after PopCrave reported the streaming platform had plans to "switch up binge release style" after Disney+ revealed their upcoming original programming would be releasing one episode per week, making the streaming platform more like a traditional cable channel. It turns out Netflix will be utilizing the more traditional one episode per week format, but binge-style drops aren't going away entirely just yet.

"Netflix to switch up binge release style, multiple new shows to release just one episode per week. This comes after Disney+ revealed they are releasing episodes of their original shows on a weekly basis instead of dropping them all at once," PopCrave originally tweeted. The post garnered a lot of buzz from it's followers that Netflix actually replied with some corrections. "[Netflix] reassures members that the weekly episode format for their original series will occur currently for their new [Cardi B] judged show Rhythm + Flow. The company previously started the weekly format with shows like Great British Baking Show," PopCrave then clarified.

Netflix's original titles, such as Stranger Things and Mindhunter, will continue to release full season's worth of episodes at once. Shows that they license for their platform, such The Great British Baking Show, will now be released one episode at a time. The seventh season of Great British Baking Show, which already has six full seasons available to stream on Netflix, will be the first show to utilize the one episode per week strategy.

Though Netflix denies there are plans to switch over to this strategy with all their content in the future, it will be interesting to see how this changes in the future. Not only does Disney+ plan release episodes on a weekly basis, Hulu and Amazon have also started to experiment with this format, as well. What do you think about this potential change? Do you like pacing yourselves when watching a new show or do you want to go full binge-mode?
