Katy Perry Has Hilarious Reaction To 'Firework' Making Music History

Nearly 10 years later, Katy Perry can still relate to the lyrics of her song “Firework.”

Today (August 24) officially marks an entire decade since the pop star released the iconic anthem from her 2010 album Teenage Dream.

However, the occasion called Perry to celebrate a few days early after learning her song had made music history by garnering the 12x Platinum certification, making her the first female artist with a single to reach this feat. (Perry and Lady Gaga both reached the 11x Platinum certification with their songs “Dark Horse” and “Bad Romance.”)

As Chart Data’s Twitter page reported on August 21, “Firework” “is now the the highest certified track by a lead female artist in RIAA history.”

Perry had the most hilarious response to finding out about the accomplishment. “Why do I still feel like a plastic bag then,” the 35-year-old tweeted, quipping the opening line from the song.

This isn’t Perry’s only major music accomplishment she’s celebrated this year.

Back in July, the singer joined the ranks of fellow pop stars Kelly Clarkson and Pink with the release of her new song “Daisies.” The single made Perry the fifth artist in history to achieve 16 career top 10 hits on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs airplay chart.

As fans know, the superstar, who is expecting her first child with fiancé Orlando Bloom, is also gearing up for the release of her new sixth studio album, Smile, arriving this Friday (August 28).
