Peyton Manning is one step closer to taking his rightful place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The two-time Super Bowl champion and five-time NFL MVP headlines this year's list for first-year eligible candidates for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Manning will be among 130 modern-era nominees eligible for voting into the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, including 13 others who will appear on the ballot for the first time, according to NFL.com.
All first-year eligible candidates for the 2021 Pro Football Hall of Fame class are listed below by position per NFL.com:
- Quarterback – Peyton Manning
- Wide Receivers– Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, Roddy White
- Tight End– Heath Miller
- Running Back– Steven Jackson
- Offensive Linemen– D'Brickashaw Ferguson (T), Logan Mankins (G)
- Defensive Backs– Charles Tillman (CB), Charles Woodson (CB/S)
- Defensive Linemen– Jared Allen (DE), Justin Tuck (DE), Kevin Williams (DT)
Enshrinement will take place during a ceremony in Canton, Ohio next August, when members of the 2020 class and a special centennial class will also be enshrined after this year's ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Associated Press reports reports
The 2020 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will include several notable names including running back Edgerrin James, a longtime teammate of Manning, as well as Troy Polamalu, Steve Hutchinson, Isaac Bruce and others.
Returning finalists from last year's ballot include Manning's longtime Colts teammate Reggie Wayne, as well as wide receiver Torry Holt, offensive linemen Tony Boselli and Alan Faneca; defensive linemen Richard Seymour and Bryant Young; linebackers Sam Mills and Zach Thomas; and defensive backs John Lynch and LeRoy Butler.
