A 73-year-old man is on the mend after being attacked on the Miami Metromover two weeks after the last attack on the transit system, according to NBC Miami on Sunday (September 20).
Eduardo Fernandez was identified by his son, Christian, as the victim in the assault, according to City of Miami Police.
Christian told authorities his father was assaulted around 6:30 a.m. on the Metromover. Police said Fernandez managed to walk to his job but collapsed when he arrived.
"They found him in the bathroom trying to clean up, totally unrecognizable," Christian said.
Officers added that Fernandez had "limited recollection" of the event and was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
According to Local 10, the 73-year-old man suffered several broken bones and internal bleeding, which required surgery.
"I’m sad, I’m mad and frustrated. Because, with COVID-19, I cant see my father or not even hug my father," Christian said, adding that his father's hospital stay may be lengthy.
This is the second attack on the Metromover this month. Surveillance video showed Andrea Puerta getting beaten by a man on the Metromover on September 4 before moving on to attack two other people, Local 10 reported.
Christian said he wants the man responsible for his father's beating in jail and that there should be better security on public transportation.
