The Cleveland Browns made NFL history this weekend.
The game on Sunday (September 27) was the first regular-season game that had a female coach on each sideline — for both the Browns and Washington teams — and a female official, the Browns tweeted.
Callie Brownson is chief of staff for the Browns, a position she received in January. Jennifer King is the full-year coaching intern for Washington and Sarah Thomas is an NFL official, 19 News reported Monday (September 28).
The game also marked a winning record for the Browns in the first three games of the season in nearly 10 years.
The milestones also come during an unusual year, as the Cleveland Browns have had to cap stadium capacity and implement health and safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The season kicked off with only 6,000 fans allowed in FirstEnergy Stadium, less than 10% capacity.
The “Return to Stadium” plan requires social distancing, masks, employee health screenings, disinfecting the stadium before and after games, and more.
Officials added that FirstEnergy Stadium will be cashless, and a prosecutor will be on site to help handle any fines in connection with the strict mask policy, among other details.
