A website published a study on the best and worst drivers by state in America, and some Florida drivers were shocked by the results. QuoteWizard created a list ranking states from worst (1) to best (50). Researchers said the Sunshine State ranked at No. 45, putting it in the Top 10 for best drivers. West Virginia claimed the No. 50 spot followed by Missouri (No. 49) and Michigan (No. 48).
"When talking to Floridians about their continually great record of being among the best drivers, it’s met with utter disagreement. 'Are you kidding me? Every day I get run off the road on my commute on I-95 from Boca Raton to Fort Lauderdale!'" Adam Johnson said, who is the writer of the article. "While Florida may disagree with our findings, they can find solace in knowing it could be worse in other states."
Researchers analyzed over 2 million insurance quotes from QuoteWizard drivers to see which states had the best and worst drivers. They then determined rankings based on composite scores. Four driving incident factors make up these scores: accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs, and citations.
"States considered to have the worst drivers had the highest rates of each incident factor. States considered to have the best drivers had the lowest rates of each incident factor," Johnson wrote. "What’s great about our best and worst driver study is that we’re using millions of data points to determine where the best and worst really are."
Wyoming was ranked as No. 1, meaning their drivers were the worst, according to the study. It was followed by Virginia (No. 2) and Colorado (No. 3). QuoteWizard noted that California annually ranks among the worst drivers, as well. Below are the full rankings from worst to best:
