Pompano Beach Man Scores Million Dollar Prize From Scratch-Off Ticket

Michael Prendergast is the latest Broward County resident to win big in the lottery.

The 46-year-old from Pompano Beach won the $1 million prize from the $5 million Gold Rush Classic scratch-off ticket according to Local 10 News.

Prendergast bought the $20 scratch-off ticket at a Stop N Shop in Fort Lauderdale located at 1550 Cordova Road. The store will get a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

According to Florida Lottery officials, Prendergast chose to take his winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payout of $710,000.

Scratch-offs make up around 75% of Florida Lottery ticket sale and has generated over $1 billion for the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund in the last fiscal year, reports Local 10 News.

Prendergast's win isn't an isolated incident. Lottery luck seems to be running rampant around Broward County.

Just a few days ago on October, 8 a 60-year-old Pompano Beach woman hit the Florida Lottery jackpot, winning $1.5 million.

Also in October, a Deerfield Beach man took home over $900,000 after buying a winning scratch-off ticket from a 7-Eleven.

September saw a few more big wins for Broward residents. Two lucky men, one from Fort Lauderdale and one from Pompano Beach, both won $1 million from scratch-off tickets.
