1 Dead After Shooting At Greensboro Courthouse

One person has died from injuries received in a shooting outside the Guilford County Courthouse on Monday (November 16). Avion Imeen McLean, 20 years old, was transported to the hospital where he later died. At least two other people were shot, but Greensboro Police said there is the potential for more victims.

Police determined that a security officer engaged a shooting suspect and they exchanged gunfire near the South Eugene Street entrance to the courthouse.

"A company police officer witnessed the shooting in progress and engaged an armed subject by discharging his weapon," Greensboro Police said in a statement. "Police are still in the process of investigating to determine the sequence of events."

North State Security Group, the security company that employs the officer involved in the shooting, issued a statement on Tuesday.

"On the morning of November 16th, a company police officer, sworn with North State Company Police Department, was in an officer-involved shooting in which our officer engaged an active shooter at the Guilford County Courthouse in Greensboro. The company police officer is currently on paid administrative leave pending this investigation. Any further questions regarding this incident should be directed to the Greensboro Police Department, which is actively conducting this investigation."

Greensboro Police encourage anyone who was injured or has damage, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact the department.
