The food delivery app DoorDash is adding a $2 fee to orders placed in Denver.
The additional fee is in response to Denver City Council's decision to cap the fees restaurants pay to use third-party food delivery companies, according to CBS4.
In a statement to BusinessDen DoorDash said "Denver has temporarily capped the fees that we may charge local restaurants. To continue to offer you convenient delivery while ensuring that Dashers are active and earning, you will now see a charge added to Denver orders."
The bill that caps the fees apps like DoorDash can charge restaurants was passed in early October.
It caps commission fees paid by restaurants at 15% of the total bill.
Before the bill, some food delivery apps were charging restaurants up to 35% of the bill.
Local restaurant owners have said that ordering takeout and delivery straight from their websites rather than through third-party delivery services is more helpful.
Many major American cities have made similar caps on food delivery apps in an attempt to help local restaurants struggling through the coronavirus pandemic.
