Morning Traffic Stop Turned Into Massive Drug Bust In Yavapai County

A traffic stop that happened early morning on Wednesday led to a massive drug bust.

A Dodge Ram was stopped around 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1st for speeding and driving outside of travel lanes on Interstate 17, according to a news release from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Crystal Briley, 39, was arrested for the possession of large quantities of fentanyl pills, cocaine, and marijuana, reports The Daily Courier.

The news release stated, "While speaking with Briley, the deputy could immediately detect the overwhelming odor of fresh marijuana."

According to the release, Briley seemed "extremely nervous during the interaction and deceptive when answering questions."

Briley reportedly denied that there was anything illegal inside the truck, except for a bit of marijuana in her purse.

Based on the odor and behavior, the deputy asked for consent to search the vehicle.

Briley denied consent, so the deputy called for a K9 unit to do a "free air" search around the exterior of the truck.

The K9 alerted to odor of illicit drugs.

During the search, officers found more than 280 pounds of marijuana, four pounds of cocaine, and about 8,000 fentanyl pills. Briley reportedly denied the items were hers.

Briley was arrested and booked into the Yavapai County Jail in Camp Verde on charges including possession and transportation of marijuana for sale, and possession of a narcotic drug and narcotic for sale.
