Twenty One Pilots is the latest band to add its name to the holiday song canon, and its offering is a timely one for 2020.
"But everybody wants to make it home this year/ Even if the world is crumbling down," Tyler Joseph sings during the chorus of "Christmas Saves The Year" before promising listeners just that. "You rest assured, Christmas saves the year."
"an original twenty one pilots christmas song written and recorded in tyler’s home studio. from us to you, merry christmas," the band announced on Instagram Wednesday (December 9).
They also shared a video for the festive tune, which plays out like a home movie with photos and videos strewn across a wooden desk. Watch the "Christmas Saves The Year" video above.
This isn't the only track the duo's released in quarantine. Earlier this year, they also gave us the relatable single "Level of Concern." And they're working on a new album, too. However, we're not sure when we'll get to hear it.
“We're currently still working… it probably takes longer than some artists,we don’t have other people really helping us,” Josh Dun said in a recent interview. “Logistically, we’re in different places. We both have our own studios, which is really nice, so [Tyler] comes up with a lot of stuff there at his studio, sends it over to me, and then I come up with some stuff here at my studio and then send it back.”
The drummer also admitted that he doesn't have a "full solid answer" as to when fans can expect the new collection of songs. “Hopefully sooner than later,” he said. “We always really want it to be right and as good as possible.”
