More Michiganders Adopted Dogs From The Michigan Humane Society This Year

Dog adoptions are on the rise at the Michigan Humane Society in 2020, as many local residents are seeking companionship during an unusual year.

The surge — particularly as people continue to work from home because of the pandemic — has been so great that the organization has contacted other animal rescues to help take in pets to be adopted, according to Local4.

“We have an incredible demand at all four of our centers,” Matt Pepper, of the Michigan Humane Society told the local news station. “We are doing between 150 and 200 adoptions in a week at the facility.”

“Not only do we put out for adoption the animals that come to us,” Pepper continued, “we pull animals from other shelters at risk. We’ll bring in other animals or they have the best chance for adoption right here in Metro Detroit.”

The Michigan Humane Society, which is the oldest and largest animal welfare organization in Michigan since its 1877 founding, has adoption centers and veterinary centers in Detroit, Rochester Hills, Westland and Howell, according to its website.

Find the Detroit adoption center at 7887 Chrysler Drive. All pet adoptions are currently done only by appointment because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Michigan Humane Society's website states. Schedule an appointment online.
