Atlanta Teachers Return For In-Person Learning, First Time In Months

Atlanta Public Schools educators headed back to school on Tuesday (January 19), the first time setting foot into their classrooms to teach students in months.

Tuesday marked the first day for teachers, and students who chose to return for in-person learning will come back on January 25. Although the return to the classroom makes some uneasy amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the school district pledged to implement a mask mandate and temperature checks as a precaution, 11Alive noted.

Atlanta Public Schools details its Return + Learn Phase II reopening plan on its website.

"We are diligently monitoring the level of community spread of COVID-19 daily. The health of our students, teachers, and staff is paramount and we take our decision to offer the option for in-person learning very seriously," reads a statement from the school district. "We value and respect the critical role our teachers play in the education of our students and we continue to listen carefully and intently to their input and recommendations...Over the past several months, we have engaged with teachers, principals, school leaders, parents, public health officials, and others in implementing the recommended mitigation strategies and protocols in every school and building in the District.”
