How A Viral Facebook Post Drove 7,000 Customers To A Cleveland Candy Shop

The power of social media is ramping up customers — including some from out-of-state — at a Cleveland candy shop.

Thanks to a viral post on Facebook, b.a. Sweetie Candy Company owner Tom Scheiman has noticed a spike in customers during January, which is typically a slow month, even without an ongoing pandemic limiting the number of people in the shop.

The post has been shared more than 63,000 times as of Tuesday morning (January 19). It's also garnered nearly 2,000 likes and more than 8,000 comments.

"Over a weekend, we had over 7,000 people in the store which was crazy,” Scheiman told Spectrum News 1. “We had to limit people from coming in."

Customers road tripped to b.a. Sweetie Candy Company from North Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Michigan, to name a few.

"She's got candy for life! Yeah, and thank you being honest on her post,” Scheiman told Spectrum News 1 of his gratitude for the customer who made the viral Facebook post that drove customers to the store. “You know, she did 24 different pictures and was honest and she just absolutely loved the place."

The “long-running, candy superstore” offers more than 4,500 candies and offers a soda shop. It’s hailed as the largest candy store in North America, in business for nearly seven decades.

The shop is located at 6770 Brookpark Rd. in Cleveland.
