A school bus driver was arrested and charged Thursday (January 28) for driving under the influence. No children were on the bus at the time of his arrest.
Avery Neely is a school bus driver for the York County School District in South Carolina. On Thursday morning, a bus was seen driving erratically on the road. According to WCNC, the bus was empty aside from the 60-year-old driver, who had safely dropped the students off at school.
After receiving reports of the erratic driving, York County School District Director of Transportation Kevin Queen said he notified the driver to immediately pull the bus over. Shortly after, law enforcement and district officials arrived on scene to figure out what was happening. Officers conducted a series of field sobriety tests, which Neely must have failed, as he was then taken into custody.
According to the district, Neely was suspended and all parents of the students along the bus route were notified of the incident. As of Thursday afternoon, no additional information on the incident or Neely has been released by either police or the York County School District.
Neely was charged with DUI and taken into custody by the York County Sheriff's Department.
