Good news for basketball fans.
The National Basketball Association and the National Basketball Player’s Association reportedly reached an agreement to hold the 2021 NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta, Georgia. The game is slated for March 7.
Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium tweeted about the apparent agreement on Thursday morning (February 4):
“The NBA and NBPA have agreed to host the All-Star Game on March 7 in Atlanta, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Sides are finalizing details of the plan as soon as Thursday.”
The All-Star Game was originally slated to take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, but officials opted to call it off because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, the Pacers were scheduled to host the 2024 All-Star Game instead, CBS Sports pointed out.
CBS Sports also noted that the All-Star Game would serve as a way for the NBA and the Player’s Association to raise money for HBCU’s, COVID-19 relief and for the league, which has also felt the impact of the pandemic in the past year.
Additional, finalized details surrounding the All-Star Game and All-Star Weekend in Atlanta — including whether there will be any skill competitions — were not immediately available Thursday afternoon.
