A man traveling through Nashville is now facing felony drug charges after authorities at Nashville International Airport say they found nearly three pounds of methamphetamine in his luggage disguised as a children's gift.
According to WKRN, 35-year-old Anthony Davis arrived in Nashville on a Southwest flight from Los Angeles. Airport police found the drugs inside his luggage after a drug K-9 alerted them to a suspicious package around 2 p.m. Wednesday (March 10).
Davis gave officers permission to search his bags, the news station reports, and after investigating further, they found a USPS package, covered in wrapping paper exclaiming "Happy Birthday," hidden in the luggage. When they inquired about the package, Davis reportedly told them it was a gift for his 7-year-old daughter. That "gift" ended up containing 2.96 pounds of meth.
Davis has been charged with a felony count of meth possession, with intent to distribute a controlled substance, and was booked into Davidson County Jail on a $150,000 bond.
Officers at Nashville's airport come across similar incidents often. Just last month, a man traveling from Los Angeles to Nashville was arrested and charged with possession after 66 pounds of marijuana were found in his luggage at BNA.
