A time for celebration ended in chaos when someone opened fire on a 12-year-old's birthday party in LaPlace Saturday night (April 17), WWLTV reports. Six people were injured, but no fatalities have been reported.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office, officers responded to the scene in the 600 block of Golfview Drive around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found multiple people with gunshot wounds at what appeared to be a child's birthday party. Officers believe the shooting stemmed from a verbal confrontation.
Rashad Bolden, a nearby neighbor, said he saw people "scurrying" outside his window, so he went out to see what the commotion was all about. That's when he saw paramedics on scene taking care of several children.
"Everybody I saw taken to the ambulance — they were all kids," said Bolden.
He continued, "For someone to just shoot into the garage full of kids, that's kind of heartless. You want to call it heartless, but you know they are not old enough to know what heartless is."
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office provided an update on the situation Sunday, saying they weren't aware of any fatalities from the incident and that no arrests have been made.
